I owned the BR-600 and found it easy to use and that it had most all of the features I needed. So, when wishing to upgrade, I immediately bought the BR-800. The devices are very similar. Very easy to use. Great effects, pitch correction, Guitar to Bass emulator. All kinds of cool gadgets. It has 4 simultaneous inputs which is great if you want to record several parts at the same time. The V-Track feature is also great, giving you 8 virtual tracks, per track. So you can record 8 cuts of the track and keep the one you like most. However, the BR-800 has some serious shortcomings. o Why in the world would Boss put a 1/4" headphone jack but a 1/8" Line Input? Not everyone plugs an MP3 player into the line input. o The new controls are not buttons, but touch pad points. There are very sensitive. I found myself having to backtrack a lot for having inadvertently hit the wrong button. o For some reason, Boss still uses their own proprietary file format instead of .WAV files. While, if using only the recorder for everything, this is fine. But if you use and sort of home studio software (Sonar, Cubase, Garageband, etc.), you'll have to use the Wave Converter software that comes with it. 3 times out of 5, the software didn't recognize my BR-800 properly. While I won't tell anyone DON'T buy this, I will say there is a better alternative out there. It would be inappropriate to put the competitor's name here, but do your research.

I own one. no brainer to use. I use it 2-4 hours 5x a week. and it still works great. It records great. YOU have your own studio at home or use 6 AA batterys at band practice. THIS RECORDER has everything you need for recording. Don't pass this one up.
