    Perfect for my apartment

I bought the Boston sound bar and sub woofer at Bestbuy a week ago. It took me a few minutes to compare it with other sound bars available and I must say this one rocks! I connected it to my new 42" Philips LCD in a breeze without any problems. Other reviews warn not to turn on the built in TV speakers but not me. I placed the sound bar in front of the TV and the sub woofer on the side of the entertainment center. My TV speakers are on top so it delivered a phenomenal 5:1 surround effect. I am very careful with the volume because it can be very loud. When I watch Netflix (TM) it is as if I'm in a movie theater. Another thing is the sub woofer is wireless from the sound bar. A big plus for my tiny space.

Like most everyone else I purchase a flat screen TV and wanted to have something that provided better sound. I hadn't really done much research on sound bars before walking into Best Buy. I wanted to keep it simple and yet practical. My wife and I sat in front of the sound bars there at Best Buy and listened to the Polk: surroundbar 3000 system, the Samsung: HW-45 system, the iLive: ITP280B, and this Boston Acoustics. Letting our ears make the decision the Boston Acoustics sound bar was perfect. The room we put this in is 14' x 22' The TV and sound bar on the 14' wall of the room. We were very impressed with the acoustics from this sound bar and the wireless sub-woofer. It had more than enough power for this room as I never needed to turn the volume all the way up. It was very easy to connect. Unfortunately, we ran into some compatibility issues. The Boston Acoustics only has a RCA inputs, and it's only a 2 channel (left/right). My flat screen plasma doesn't have RCA out only optical. I made multiple trips to Best Buy to try and make this work because I have multiple sources cable TV, blu-ray player, and PS3. More importantly we liked the sound from this system. We ended exchanging for something more expensive that allowed for an optical input. I still wanted to give this a good rating because we didn't exchange it based on sound performance, but due to a compatibility issue. PROS -- Great sound for the price -- Enough power for small to medium sized rooms -- Easy to connect -- Easy to program with your regular remote -- Overall appearance sleek and looks great with flat screen CONS -- 2 channel analog speaker system -- RCA inputs only

    Good for 32 Inch TV

Ok, I bought this sound bar in the store using my ears to listen to which sound bar sounded the best. I will stick with my decision as this sound bar was the best sounding and I am happy with my purchase. Here is a few things you need to know about this device. 1) Make sure you can turn your TV speakers off. It will sound terrible with your tv playing with it. Like an echo. 2) Make sure you have a universal remote to control the volume of your sound bar and set it up correctly! The TVee 20 can memorize the proper commands on your universal remote and will not interfere with your TV. 3) Place the subwoofer close to the bar in a corner if you have a large open room. The corner will help the sound bounce around the room properly. 4) This thing is so easy to set-up that it is well worth it! Sound-Average in a large room, probably great in a small room. But understand I used it on a 32 inch tv, not a 50+ inch plasma!! Much better sound than a TV speakers! Excellent appearance. Good Power, and Good value. I enjoy this sound bar and I am going to mount it on the tv using a universal sound bar mount purchased from Amazon.com for 49.95!

Much better sound quality v.s. tv speakers

The sound bar produces very good sound and the sub packs a pretty good punch, considering it is wireless. This is not a surround sound system but sounds far better than the tv speakers and the appearance of the sound bar will compliment most flat panel televisions. Unlike many reviewers I connected my system to my tv {Sony Bravia HX800} instead of my cable box. If you have other components such as blu ray, gaming consoles etc. you will have to connect to your tv. I turned the tv speakers off and set the audio to variable so my remote contols the volume thru the tv. No need to program the remote to control the sound bar. The one problem that I had that other reviewers mentioned was the sound bar would go into standby mode after just minutes of being turned on. After many attempts of rechecking all my settings and connections I contacted Boston and they responded very quickly. However their advise did not solve the problem. I returned the sound bar to best buy and they exchanged it with no problem. The new bar did the same thing. In conclusion I finally figured it out by adjusting the trim level to 3 and setting the volume control on the bar to about half way. So if anyone has this problem try these settings, it may save you a lot of time.

I haven't had this for too long, and I am not the most familiar when it comes to sound, but this thing sounds awesome. I had to return the sony ht-ct350 and got this instead. I think it was worth it. This is only a 2.1 but it sounds amazing. It is louder than the sony sound bar with much better base. It is not surround sound though, and you can tell a difference. The sony was better at simulating surround sound, but still was just ok when it came to that. I don't need the top of the line so this is more than perfect for me. I have a big room and this is very easy to hear wherever you sit. Programing the universal remote is easy too - you don't need codes or anything. I wish it had other options to hook up to the tv. The sony had ARC and used either digital optical or hdmi. This still uses stereo only. (Red and White) Would have been nice to hook it up with just a digital optical cord. Honestly, its a little bulky too. Its kinda large in terms of depth Oh, and the base is wireless too! Just a power cord...

This setup sounds great. The sub is volume adjustable and the fact that it's wireless makes it all the better. The actual soundbar component looks good and also sounds great. You need both to balance the sound out. It was very easy to set up and it really does sync with you current remote which was a big selling point for me because I couldn't deal with another remote laying around. My only gripe with this unit is that you need to be within 12 ft. or so for the soundbar to catch a signal from the remote control. I have to reach a little to adjust the volume.....could be worse. Other than that, great unit, great sound, and great price.

This is what I was looking for! It has great sound and definitely a great improvement over the tv speakers. You get better highs and the sub adds the much needed lows tv's don't have. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good unit for a good price. It is not a replacement for surround sound but it does sound great plus you don't have extra wires everywhere and keeps the wife happy since you don't have to mount speakers everywhere.

    Great Soundbar For The Price

Just received this soundbar as an Xmas gift. Hooked it up in minutes to my 32" Samsung, including drilling and mounting under the TV. Both are in my sunroom which is 12' x 12'. Much better than the TV speakers. Any TV gets better with sound and Boston Acoustics had done the job again. Note, you are not getting a "surround sound" effect. That is not what this product is intended for. However, if you want to add punching sound and bass this is the way to go. I looked at the Polk, Samsung, and Boston Acoustics models in the store prior to telling Santa this was the best. Polk sounded a little "tinny" and the Samsung sub did not have adjustable bass. This model has great sound and you can adjust the bass on the back of the sub. The remote took seconds to program. No problems there. If you have an expensive TV and are looking for awesome sound, maybe you should buy a "theater system". But in a small room, this is great. I would highly recommend. Good luck!!!

The sound bar and sub if tune just right make it seem there is a high end full surround sound system not just a sound bar. The only problem is the remote sensor will not pick up your remote if your more than 2 foot away from the sound bar. So you have to hook up the system to work off the volume of you TV. Pros: Wireless Great sound Small Size Cons: Useless remote feature

    Superior soundbar; not for everyone

There are many good reviews here that tell the facts: great sound, easy to sync with existing remote (especially cable box or satellite box); and this unit is plenty loud (for middle-aged people) in my 20' x 30' room. It is not as loud nor does the subwoofer thump like my $5000 sound system downstairs (duh). This is a two channel system, no fake surround. It does have only one set of RCA jacks, no optical input. What I have to suggest that is different: I've lived with this unit for two years and recently purchased the JVC BA1 soundbar for my Aunt, as it has been better received than many of the other approx. $300 offerings from the Far East - it is also a 4.1 system with two optical inputs as well as one set of RCA jacks. Before taking it to her, I brought the JVC unit to my house to compare with the Boston Acoustics unit and... my wife has a good ear and she listened to each unit three or four times as I switched between the two (without telling her which was which). She quickly concluded the Boston Acoustics soundbar is much more natural sounding, whereas the JVC unit was "clear", but mostly because it has lots of highs but lacked midrange. She described the JVC unit as bright, and the Boston unit as more "real" sounding. I felt the same thing, as well as feeling like my head was swimming after listening to the JVC unit for 20 minutes or so (on both its two-channel setting as well as surround mode). I'm taking the JVC unit back and will try one of the inexpensive Polk's vs Boston, as I believe the Polk units (even the $300 models) have optical inputs. IF you need a simple and inexpensive unit for your living room, etc. and just want superior/accurate/realistic sound for movies, music, sports, etc. the Boston unit is one of the best for "cheap" that you can find. Buy it and don't look back if these are your criteria - as it is 1000 times better than your TV speakers and perhaps far better sounding than the other soundbars in this price range. If you need optical inputs or think you need fake surround, then you might look elsewhere - but if you want decent sound AND surround or optical inputs, I'd be looking at the next price range ($450 to $700). I'll try to post about the Polk vs Boston soundbars early in 2011, as one of Polk's cheaper models might sound good and still offer a little more connectivity.

Look good, works ok, sound good. The remote is a real pain to set up. I bought this as a gift for my 80 yr old Dad and spent an hour trying to get the remote feature to work. Impossible to sync with the TV speakers, ended up muting the TV, try another brand, it will sound just as good and save you some money.

THERE IS NO DIGITAL OPTICAL CABLE!!!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I knew that this Boston Acoustics sound bar DID NOT have a digital optical cable as an option. It only has the RCA red/white common hookup which i was OK with because i thought it sounded great in the store. I bought a 37 inch Toshiba HDTV LCD just 2 weeks ago also at Best Buy. I did not realize that this model only has a Digital Optical OUT and no RCA audio out. I bought the sound bar, and brought it home and realized this issue a little late. It was a frustrating evening. I was ready to listen to this sound bar and HDTV. I waited a month to make the purchase and thought I did my homework. My advice is to check your TV first to see if there is the RCA audio out before you buy this unit. I never would've dreamed in a million years! that a new TV and a new sound bar would not hook up to each other!!! I took it back to Best Buy the next which they gladly refunded my money and I bought the Polk Audio 2000 which has a digital optical cable. But I did have to pay 40.00 more and drive an hour to another Best Buy because the local Best Buy sold their last Polk Audio 2000 30 minutes after I left with the Boston Acoustics the night before.....Argggh! Very Frustrating!!! I am happy with the Polk Audio 2000 it sounds great and should've just bought it first!

    Pleasant Surprise....For Small Rooms!!!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

To start this bar does "NOT" give you surround sound!!!! Those bar systems are called "Surround Bars"!!!!! This is a "Sound Bar"!!! I've read to many complaints about it not giving surround sound......So if you are looking for surround sound this is not for you... For sound enhancement this is the system. It's in my living room which is 13'x13' by 12' high and it fills the room with plenty of quality sound. The wireless sub woofer adds plenty of bass on it's mid sound setting. I find putting the woofer to either side of the TV is best which helps broaden the sound. I hear no other sounds like humming, hissing or echoes, just good old sound.. Super simple set-up. A headphone jack adapter was included. It states in the product tour video on BA's web site you have to purchase this separately... The reason its not a five star review is the volume is in increments, it does not go up or down progressively.

Great Sound, but remote feature is not great

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Bought a Sony LCD and the Boston sound bar. The sound from the soundbar is excellent. The sound is closer to Bose then Polk and I don't feel the need to have surround sound with this product. The wireless subwoofer also produces excellent bass sound from anywhere in the room. The negative of this product is the remote control feature. Since you need to go through the TV to adjust the volume the sound bar does not synch up with the TV volume bar very well. For instance if I press the volume up from 10 to 14 the volume from soundbar is deafening, then when I press the volume down from 14 to 10 there is no longer any sound. Also, if you press the mute button the mute only last for a few seconds then the sound returns. I find myself constantly getting up to manually adjust the sound on the sound bar to make it the correct volume level. If there is a way to fix the remote volume issue, then this is definately a 4.5 star product

The product seems to be a very good quality product. It was packaged well and setup very easily. I was not able to use it and it was not easy to find out why without a bunch of digging. My TV only has Optical/TOSLink out. It just so happens that it only puts out Dolby encoded autdio and this Polk unit does not decode Dolby. So no sound. It worked on my older set with the optical connection, but not the newer one. To get the optical decoding will cost you another $180. A little more disclosure and details on the specs would have been helpful.

I was a little scared to purchase this product when I read some of the reviews on this product but I can tell you it works great! The bass is great, the sound is great and I just love it! To program your universal remote was VERY simple if you have half a brain and can follow the directions provided. My only caution I can give is I have a smaller living room so the sound i great but I could see if you have a LARGE room where the sound will be in then you may want to go with multiple speakers but for my apartment it works GREAT!

I've had 7.1 surrounds before. I've shopped through 8 different sound bars - limited space this time around. When I came across the Boston Acoustic, I was very, pleasantly surprised. What awesome bass this unit puts out there. In comparison - none of the other sound bars had the bass this one has. The sound fills my living room for good quality movie nights! For small rooms or rooms that aren't conducive to speaker re-writing... this is the unit for you. Really, really impressed. Would highly recommend.

Audioholics....You probably wont want one of these for your primary TV sound. This is NOT a surround bar. That being said, there are several sound bars on the market in this price range and they all have their pros and cons.... This Boston sound bar just blows away the factory TV speakers!!! It will get as loud as you will want and has very good bass. The sound fills my 16x20 den with ease. The main deciding factor for me was you can use your Directv remote to control the sound bar and it has a wireless Sub !!!. ....I just didnt want another remote to keep up with!! Once your TV remote is programed to the sound bar your Directv remote will operate the sound bar. The con is...it only has the red/white audio cables, if your TV does not have the red/white audio OUT jacks in the rear, you will need the $20.00 adapter from Radio Shack. Also , you do need to be within 15 ft. or so for the remote to properly operate the sound bar. So if you want to greatly enhance your TV and DVD movie sounds without having wires running all over the room this unit will do the job.

    High price for older technology

I was very impressed with the sound quality of the sound bar. It has a lot of punch for just two speakers and a subwoofer. The looks could more stream lined, but that is not really the problem with this product. I was not very happy that I paid nearly a top dollar price for a new piece of equipment that did not have the capability to plugged directly into the TV. I was told by the sales person that these speakers are designed to replace the tv speakers, as they can provide better sound quality. I agree with that statement, however, my new tv does not have a RCA output for speakers, only a digital output. The sound bar only has the option for RCA inputs. I believe that is short sighted and this sound bar is not keeping up with the current technology of the tv's it is for which they are to be installed. I am returning this product because it is not compatible with my tv. I am really disappointed because the sound quality is great. I just wish that they had given more options for installation. For the price, it would seem that would be standard, as lesser priced models have more options for installation.
