    Amazing!!!

So I used to use $10 sony's, then upgraded to $20, then jumped to the Ironman yurbuds for $50 and was just so disgusted by the quality that I was going to by the Bose Ie2i for $130 but went ahead and took the plunge for the B&W C5's. At first with the tips that come pre installed I was kinda bummed that they sounded just ok. I then switched to to the Large included tips and WOW the sound and Bass really HIT!!!! I took them on a 4 mile jog and they didn't fall out once However they did seem to slide out of position a bit... I was on the Fence about returning them being that the Primary use is for GYM and Jogs but I really liked the sound so I did some more reading online and found The COMPLY FOAM TIPS (T-400) medium and this solved all my issues. They stay in never shift and the sound is even more Amplified along with stronger cleaner bass (not like those loser beats type bass but more like a $5000 surround sound system bass. I also purchased the 4 year warranty so I don't feel bad if these bad boys stop working for whatever reason Ill just get them replaced for FREE ;-)

Great sound, quirky fit, beautiful style

    Posted .

The C5's are my first relatively high-end earbud purchase. I researched a lot, and decided on these over the Velodyne vPulse partially because of availability, but mostly because of my experiences with B&W and the loop fit system. I really wanted a pair of headphones that stayed put for a while when I'm active (e.g., mowing the lawn, working) and were comfortable for a long time when stationary (e.g., watching a movie or playing a game). I wax audiophilic, so the sound quality is very important. I have a nice pair of Boston Acoustics at home, and have worked with Martin-Logan, so I have high expectations. The sound does not disappoint. These are accurate, balanced, and dynamic 'phones. They fit my expectations from B&W. Similarly, the build quality is excellent. Were it not for the minor issues, these would be perfect. The fit started great. They stayed in place while I mowed my lawn for an hour, and sounded awesome the whole time - once I found the right size & shape for the tips (which, btw, are not that hard to change. Use a middle+index+thumb pinch to remove). However, after a month, the loops don't stay in place as well as I'd like. They don't seem to hold their grip, and so will sometimes loosen and begin to slip. Fortunately, the cord is light enough that they don't really fall out. Maybe my ears just subtly change enough that some days they work great, some days they don't. Today, they fit perfect and I'm loving them. Tomorrow, maybe not as much. The cord is very sturdy, but the cylindrical shape lends them to tangling. I'm really interested in the Velodyne ones for this reason. I don't feel like I will ever damage the cord; it really is tough. Some pieces on it seem purposeless, like the black beads at the end of the loop, but that's minor. The case...looks nice, but really isn't. My main gripe is the zipper. the pull tab always gets caught on itself in a way that doesn't make it easy to pull the right direction. The starting point (when closing) is not securely attached to the case, so it flops around awkwardly, making two-handed closing difficult, and on-handed nearly impossible. If the direction of the zipper was reversed, this would be less of an issue, but as it is, it sucks. After being stored in the case, sometimes the fit loops get slightly bent one way or another, making the fit awkward. Otherwise, the case is made of good materials. One last thing regarding the volume controls. They don't work on Android phones, at all. This is unfortunate, as I will never own an iPhone unless my job buys one for me because I have to have it. Considering that Android's market share in the US is over 50%, and iOS is around 30%, you'd think this would be considered. Apparently, the Velodyne set doesn't either, which is too bad. My $30 Sony ones could do it. In summary, if you're looking for a pair of fantastic-sounding, solidly-built earbuds, you will be satisfied by the C5, as long as you can overlook the annoying case and the occasional quirky fit.

    Amazing in-ears, not very comfortable.

    Posted .

These are, by far, the best earbuds I've ever used. Sound quality is amazing, especially on the low end. They have tight, punchy bass, without being too overwhelming. Unfortunately, they just don't have a very comfortable design. The ear loop is necessary to keep them from falling out, but due to its awkward rigidity, it tends to hurt after more than 30 minutes or so. Other manufacturers such as Jaybird use a more flexible hook to keep the earbuds in place, which is just as effective, yet still comfortable. However, all in-ears do have some level of discomfort after sometime, so I almost think this is a fair trade-off due to the unmatched sound quality of the C5.

    Excellent build and sound quality

I have been an avid headphones buyer for over a decade. I can say without any hesitation what so ever, that these headphones are the best I have ever owned. I have tried all the name brands out there such as Beats, Bose, Audio Technica. Pretty much any brand that comes to mind. These have the sound I have been looking for in all of those. The bass is so deep it feels like I have a high end subwoofer in my head. But the bass is not over bloated at all. It feels real and feels it needs to be there. The mids are almost too perfect in a good way. The treble is very much present but not over sibilant at all. I highly recommend these to anybody looking for a high end set of earbuds. The comfort is phenomenal as well. They may be pricey, but they are well worth it.

Superior sound. For a few months.

    Posted .

The quality of sound will make it absolutely impossible to enjoy listening to any genre of music via any other brand of in-ear headphone—including any of the over-hyped nonsense manufactured by Monser(R) for Beats by Dre or Skullcandy(R). *Source: ownership of all premium-branded manufactures' flagship models, and no fewer than 12-hours use per day, everyday.* Frustratingly, however, the benchmark-destroying sound quality produced by the C5s will last no more than six (6) months maximum—if you're lucky. And when you return your *first* pair to Best Buy, and the friendly rep asks you if you would like another pair of the Bowers & Wilkins C5 in-ear headphones, you will foolishly respond in the affirmative... only to be teased for another four to six months with this absurdly-amazing sound quality... of which you can never truly own. Today I am heading back to BB with my second pair. This pair lasted two months fewer than the first: an astonishing seven weeks! I intend to fight the urge to nod like a mouthbreathing fool when asked if I would like another pair. A note on care: a factory representative's default response to such claims would be to suggest that the failed headphones were not properly cared for; however, that assumption would, in fact, be the polar opposite of the truth: being an über-retentive audiophile prevents me from doing things like dropping the drivers (regardless of the fact that they *seem* to be robust and are of machined aluminum), wrapping/winding/twisting the cable while not in-use, or putting any sort of strain on said cable and/or its connection points. Yet despite white-glove treatment, both sets simply failed. Specifically: each set's left driver failed; unexpectedly and completely (i.e., neither wiggling the connection points leading to the driver nor tapping the driver causes it to regain connectivity). And when your pair of Bowers & Wilkins C5 in-ear headphones fail—and they will—you will find yourself sporting a two-hundred dollar set of earplugs. Save your money and preserve your lower benchmark for SQ.

    One of the best, but...

I'm a big-time headphone dork, I've spent way too much money on all of this but I can't help it because listening to music is my favorite activity. Let me start off by saying based just on pure audio fidelity, the C5's are phenomenal. 5 stars for sound. They are so much fun to listen to, huge sound. I don't consider them to be audiophile-type headphones because the big booming bass is exaggerated, but I like that for mobile on the go earbuds. However, HANDLE WITH CARE. As long as you treat them like they are precious little delicate earbuds you will be ok. My first pair broke after 6 months because I was casually throwing them in my bag without a case (like you should be able to do with earbuds). After I learned my lesson and B&W sent me a new pair under warranty, I now treat them very gently, always putting them in a protective little case for added protection. But not the case that it comes with because that case is to small and will damage them (ridiculous!) So are they worth the price tag? If they were built stronger then yes. Do I regret this purchase? No, the sound is so good I can't live without them now. Just for reference, I also own & enjoy Sennheiser HD650, Sennheiser Amperior, & AKG K550. The C5's are are definitely in the same class as those.

    Amazing little gems.

    Posted .

When I decided that I need some new in ear monitors I tried to save a little cash by purchasing the Bose IE2 earphones. The Bose don't sound horrible, but I kept thinking they were lacking in depth and low end as well as volume. I swapped them out for the B&W C5 set and they are worth the extra cash. I find them comfortable to wear after properly fitting them. With the medium fittings that are pre-installed I enjoyed them but they still fell a little flat to me. I decided to install the wider set and BOOM my rating shot through the roof. These iem's are so clean and full if you close your eyes with GREAT SOURCE music it's like the artist is in the room with you performing. If you're streaming from Pandora radio it sounds good, but not amazing because it's not a high quality source. For streaming try MOG mobile as they have a HQ option with 320kbps streaming. These really start to shine with lossless music playback . B&W gives a membership to their Society of Sound with some free lossless albums for download. iPhone playback of Apple lossless files are just immersive with full mud free bass, dead perfect mids and soaring highs. Vocals and acoustic music are what these babies were made for, although some RUN DMC also sounded great too;) Adele, Jack Johnson, Peter Gabriel and the like are about as good as in ear monitors get especially for under $200. The included case looks cool, but isn't very functional. I will likely remove the plastic middle section that is supposed to hold the earphones when traveling as it's difficult to use and the case is too small so I'm afraid I'll destroy the cable with the zipper after much use. Bottom line: If you're considering these little cans just buy them. Give them some burn in time 10-30 hrs and enjoy them like crazy.

    Perfect for the gym

    Posted .

I have smaller ears so it is very hard for me to find a pair of earbuds that fit snugly. I primarily use them at the gym which means that historically I have had to compromise a snug fit (so they don't fall out) for sound quality. These are the best of both worlds. The sound is incredible. Easily the best I have found out of a pair of headphones. The cable is well insulated so bouncing doesn't cause feedback; that was a problem in a few other "high end" headphones/earbuds I have tried. The fit is also great. I sometimes have to play around with them a bit to get them properly seated in my ear, but once there, the unique inner-ear loop that they have does a spectacular job of keeping them in place. The snugness also provides the best cancellation of ambient noise that I have ever experienced. It is like being in my own little world.

Great earbuds but not very comfortable for me...

    Posted .

I purchased a pair of C5 after lots of research and from my ownership of a Zeppelin and its amazing sound. Unfortunately, I don't find them as comfortable as I had expected. After trying all of the tips and various adjustments of the memory wire, I finally switched the tips out for a pair of comply tips (500s, I think) and bam!, what a difference. I finally settled on bringing the loop to its smallest size so that it isn't actually attached to my ear and the comply tips hold the earbuds in perfectly. If I use them during a lot of movement, I can always extend the loops back out for support. Also, before the comply tips, I had trouble with the sound changing when I would turn my head. If the earphones we not pointed perfectly into my ear canal, I could hear attenuation (maybe because they don't go in as far as others I'm used to?). Again, the comply tips solved that issue, too. Previously, I had a pair of Ultimate Ears super.fi 5 and triple.fi 10. These B&W definitely have a lot more punch and bass extension than either. Overall, I think the UE have a little more high end and treble emphasis, but these C5s are no slouch, either. For the price and sound quality, they are spectacular and hold up against the UEs well. I would still prefer my triple.fi 10 in very noisy environments (like mowing the lawn), but the C5 are great for everyday use. Besides, the addition of the remote and mic are very convenient (without spending the extra $$$ in the triple.fi 10vi). For comparison sake, they have a lot more depth and midrange than my Bose QC15 (but not nearly as much noise reduction) and have a good soundstage (probably better than the UE TF10) but aren't as open as my Grado SR125i (but I would never expect them to be). I have a total of about 15 hours on them, so we'll see what happens as they burn in more. A great pair of headphones and a great price. I'm very happy with them! If you do purchase them, or any other B&W products, make sure to register them and get your 3 month membership to the Society of Sound. There are some very good downloads there ands most of them are available in 16 bit Apple Lossless and 24 bit flac.

    Simply brilliant....

I've purchased many earbuds/headphones in my day as I listen to music for close to 8 hours a day. Never have I ever purchased a set that have really, and I mean really impressed me. I was hesitant to spend so much money on a set of earbuds but I'm very glad I did. I've had the Bose in ears for quite awhile and they've done a fantastic job, probably the best earbuds I've ever owned up to this point. To put it bluntly, the Bose IE's are a fantastic pair of earbuds with amazing sound. These Bowers & WIlkins C5's make my $100 Bose sound like $10 JVC gummies. The styling is beautiful, the fit is perfect, the loop system is genius, and the sound is completely breathtaking. I really have nothing negative to say about these. 10 out of 10 for me.

These earphones may be a little pricey, but they are worth it. I have had other quality earphones, but these are my favorite. I've had the Klipsch Image S4 earphones, as well as Bose's earphones. These definitely, by far, sound the best of the two. I usually have a hell of a time getting the right fitment for new earphones, but these ones fit great right away. The secure loop worked beautifully for my ears, and i could not shake them loose. The sound quality was very natural with excellent clarity. There were occasions when the high notes were a bit too sharp, but it rarely occurred. Another good part of the sound, for me, was the excellent bass response that was definitely not overpowering the rest of the song. If someone is willing to spend money on earphones, I would highly recommend checking out the C5.

    Clear, deep, detailed sound

    Posted .

I've never been happy with a pair of earbuds, until I bought the Bowers & Wilkins C5 earbuds. The clear, deep sound took me by surprise. I hear detail in my music that I've missed through other earbuds (Bose, Monster, Shure, and Sony). I could gush on and on about the sound. Suffice it to say, I didn't think I would ever find a pair of earbuds with this high sound quality. The fit takes a little getting used to. I have small ears and wear glasses. I pulled the loops to their smallest diameter, and they still feel a little more snug than I would like. This fit does keep them securely in place, though. I was so tired of other earbuds falling out or moving to a poor position in my ears. The wires feel sturdy, and I don't see any obvious weak spots. It will take some time to truly test the durability, though.

    Fantastic Experience...So Far

    Posted .

Before I purchased the B&W C5, I was feverishly researching what the best options would be without completely breaking the bank. I already traveled the typical road of Beats (ear buds and over the ear), Bose (ear buds), and then tried to look into other brands such as Senheisser. There are a couple of things I really needed: 1) Comfort. I commute and use the headphones for long amounts of time daily. I need a good yet compact and secure fit. 2) Sound Quality: It's always a dream of mine to just listen to music with a flat lined EQ. A solid sound with balance is what I was after 3) Noise Isolation: Since I take the train and work in the city, I need noise isolation from both the loud sounds of the train/city, but since I listen to music at relatively loud volumes, isolation from other people hearing what I'm listening to as a common courtesy to co-workers and co-commuters That being said, I always opted for ear buds. Before the C5's I tried over the ear Sennheisers, and I LOVED the sound quality, but the comfort left so much to be desired, you also could clearly hear what I was listening to, and they were bulky for the commuting. I ultimately returned them. After further research I decided to give the C5's a shot. I read a lot about how great these were with the exception of an unusually high failure rate after months of use and bad customer support. I also heard two sides to the story of how the fit was - those that couldn't get it to fit at all, and those that find the fit incredible. I still decided to buy these and decide for myself. So far (fingers crossed) I am VERY pleased with the experience: * For my ears, these are the most secure fitting ear buds I have ever owned. The loop design seriously anchors them into my ears with creating a pressure filled vacuum in the ear canal. I also have been able to keep them on for hours at a time without irritating my ears, something other ear buds had done quite often. * Noise isolation for outside noises is really good. Sometimes a little too good. I hear almost nothing from the outside and people around me cannot hear my loud music either * Sound quality is excellent. I now use a flat EQ and it sounds fantastic. I agree with others that the bass can be muddy, but the bass tones are still powerful. It is exactly a sweet spot that I was looking for * If you are an Apple person, the controls for iOS are probably the only thing I have to say disappoints me greatly. The volume controls are very difficult to use without accidentally hitting the play/pause button. Skipping and repeating songs can also be a task when done from the control. They decided to make it a single unit with no clear distinction of the volume and play buttons, which is fine, but after using multiple headphones with this type of control I still have not gotten used to it. All in all, I hope that these headphones last. I'm still nervous about that 5-6 month mark, where people claim it just stopped functioning right. I'm 2 months in, however, and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great set of headphones.

I bought Bowers & Wilkins c5 because my previous Bose MIE2i was replaced once because of unbalanced sound and the second pair because the cord was torn in three places. I love to listen to music every moment of my waking days, of which most of the time I'm am still. I love classical, rock, hip hop, jazz, pretty much All genre of music I enjoy and Bowers & Wilkins c5 does not disappoint in delivering excellent sound to each genre. I am very satisfied with the purchase of my Bowers & Wilkins c5 in ear concert for One.

Great sound quality but not comfortable for all

    |
    Posted .

I had a hard time getting to like these at first, but after fidgeting with them for a while I got them comfortable inserted in my ears. Once this happened, I knew the sound quality was the best thing about these earbuds. Without any EQ on my smartphone, these sounded great on a long -haul flight and isolated the external noise very well. Once I played with my EQ I had one of the most perfect sounding experience I have had with my smartphone in the air. The only problem, I couldn't keep them in my ears too long without them becoming uncomfortable. I tried these multiple times in different ways over a few weeks and wanted to find a comfortable way to wear them because of the sound quality but I could not. I ended up returning them for a more comfortable pair with much less quality. If the design is suited to your ears and you can comfortably wear them, these may be one of the best investments you can make. Unfortunately that did not work out for me although I wanted it to.

These C5 are the culmination of a long search for comfortable, durable earbuds with top notch sound quality. They deliver on all fronts. I exercise quite a bit, and I've always been frustrated with cords, primarily because they weigh the buds down and cause them to fall out. The B&Ws solve that with an innovative secure fit (bonus for being aesthetically pleasing) and an extremely light cord. If I had a complaint, and it would be nitpicking, it would be the case. It is too small and difficult to shove the whole item into its crescent shape. Other than that, these are the best buds I've ever owned, period. They are worth the price.

These are the best in-ear headphones I've ever owned. I've had a couple of pairs of Shure headphones, and the sound quality of the B&W's is far superior, all around but especially in the low (bass) range. My last pair of Shures cost more than these. Also, the open design of the earpiece makes for a much fuller, richer sound. Not only is the sound quality excellent, but the fit is as well. B&W engineered an ingenious use of the cord, which wraps around the earpiece cylinder to create a loop which secures the earpiece gently in the ear. The no-tangle cord, iPhone controls, and microphone make it perfect for everyday use.

    Fantastic for working out

My main reason for buying these headphones was to replace my Beats solos. it was my third pair of them and they breaking. I primarily used them to work out with but I got sick of the hassle and talked to someone in magnolia about high quality in ear headphones that would be good to workout with. I was recommended these. They are absolutely amazing, they have a good amount of base, clear and good sound quality. they also will not fall out of year no matter what they are phenomenal for running and seem to be made well. the difference between DR. Dre headphones and those as well has other high end brands such as this is the quality. when you buy dres you are more or less just purchasing them to be cool like everyone else because there undependable. sure the sound quality is good and there is a lot of base but they feel cheap and plasticky and become defective. i would highly recommend this to anyone who lives and active lifestyle!!

I immediately realized that I could not get a perfect fit with the included silicone earbuds. So I started investigating and found the COMPLY memory foam earbuds and they work perfectly! The little black pieces that are right below the adjustable wire covers (the part that loops in your ear) will not stay in place since day one. I've found they really don't matter. The storage case is cheap and is too small but I have an old small camera case that works perfectly. After reading all the reviews, it was a no brainer to buy the multi year extended warranty for about $30. Sound quality is amazing. I also strongly recommend EQu app for iphone users. It allows you to get the most sound out of these little buds. ENJOY.
