Got these open box special to be rears in my basement. When played with bowers 606 fronts they sounded tinny. I took them back and got a second pair of 606’s. Probably good on their own but not even close to as good as the 606’s

I love B&W speaker. However, the AM1’s just could not compare to my Polk Atrium 8’s. In a sir by side comparison, the Poll’s blew away the B&W’s in bass, mids, volume and fullness of sound. At 1/2 the price of the B&W’s, I’ll stay with my Polk Atrium 8.

B&W is always a good brand. Just beware of buying open box items without having them tested from the store

The speaker had a great sound. It blew with in the first month. We never blasted or pushed them to the max. Unfortunately, just bad manufacturing.

Bowers & Willkins AM-1 vs. Polk Audio Atrium 6

I looked on line for as many outdoor speaker "professional" reviews as I could find. Most of the reviews put the Polk Audio Atrium 4 at the top of the list. Reading between the lines, it appeared to me that these lists were giving a lot of weight to the value of the speaker. However, I was in search of the best sounding outdoor speaker. I ordered the Atrium 6 and the Bowers & Wilkins AM-1. I put them side by side using the same Bose SA -5 amps and the same wiring. I used the Bose Soundtouch app and made a group between the two amps so that I could hear them together, and then one at a time. I then tested them using the Cambridge Audio suggested song list and a few of my own on Amazon Music HD, so that the highest quality streaming was used. Together they sounded terrific as one would expect running four speakers. The real test was when I did them apart. As for the Atrium 6, the sound was full and brilliant and produced reasonable amount of bass. It did well with vocals and driving bass lines in the music. Some might consider it a great speaker for rock music, but if you listen to more eclectic music like classical, acoustic, country, blues, reggae, you need a speaker that is able to handle all of those genres. By itself it was an exceptional speaker. My first reaction was, this is so much better than my old Sonance Mariner 300s (which to be fair are simply old!) The problem was then I listened to the Bowers & Wilkins AM-1 by itself. The sound was full, clear, and expansive. It was much more like a great pair of bookshelf speakers. It was a step up to be sure. This unit has a passive radiator for the bass, which definitely made a difference both with bass lines in the music and filling in the middle tones between the highs and lows. The sound was easy to listen to and fulfilling. It was obvious that one could listen to the Bowes & Wilkins AM-1 for a long time without getting tired. The brilliance of the Atrium 6, while admirable for an outdoor speaker and the need to cut through the open space, was just too thin after a long period of listening in comparison to the Bowers & Wilkins AM-1. In the end, the Bowers & Wilkins AM-1 was the better sound. And the bonus is that this speaker is one of the best looking designed speakers around. The bracket is one sided and conceals all of the wires. I have also purchased the Bose 251 Environmental Speakers and the Revel M80XC and the Martin Logan ML75AW, which have not arrived yet. Those comparisons are next.

Just got these delivered last week. First time listening this weekend. Beautiful speakers, easy to install. Sound is good for outdoor speaker. Have them on my deck so in a large open space. Didn't want anything too big. I would say great speakers if I had them in a smaller space but they meet my needs.

    Good sound quality, painful install

Cons: The installation was unnecessarily painful. To start, the instructions are minimal without any words. Second, one of the supplied screws to attach the speaker to the mount was not cut properly. This was a custom screw, and the supplied plastic T50 torx screwdriver would not fit in the screw because it was miscut. For such a high-end product, this is embarrasing. Sure enough, the product was manufactured in the China. This require me to go to the hardware store to find an alternative torx screwdriver. Third, both of the plastic frame pieces for the mount required cutting out plastic inserts for the speaker wire to run through, however this was not easy. The instructions did not give any guidance regarding this. Fourth, the seal around the speaker wire cover is not very good. I'm am skeptical that it will keep out the elements from short circuiting the speaker wires.
