These were great! Sound was clear and clean and they were made so well. Excellent materials, but i think i got a bad pair or after updating with the app something happened, because it was doing what it needed to with the noise cancelling. other than that, great pair of technology

I did go back and exchange these headphones for the PX7s simply due to the fact that these aren’t fully over the ear headphones they do rest on your ears other than that they’re great! Just a preference I guess.

The sound was amazing however it seemed as though when I got home to be a little muffled. I exchanged them for a better pair. These were my second pair, first ones were great I just wanted wireless. Great product.

Good overall sound quality across a variety of genres: I tested music with my Pixel 2, connected via aptX wireless, using Spotify Premium at its highest bitrate. Classical music I thought did best, but all genres came across nicely. It’s neutral sounding, without coloring the music, with the only complaint would be a desire for just a little more bass in places, although music was much less affected by this than movies were.
Streaming movies from Vudu, also on the Pixel 2/aptX, there were zero problems with audio/visual sync in my experience. The overall sound was balanced and dialogue in particular stayed clear in the mix. However, during some of my favorite home theater test scenes, the bass was more noticeably lacking in punch. As I said, this was a slight concern in music, but more of a problem in movies.
I also tested this, using the included 3.5mm cable, with my Yamaha digital piano. I was very pleased with how well the tone matched that produced by the piano’s own speakers, which shows these have a very natural sound.
I liked the design: these feel exceptionally sturdy and well-built, with an understated and classy look with very dark neutrals. They were comfortable to wear for extended listening sessions, but I do believe those with very large heads might have a bit of difficulty with fit. The headphones fit snugly on my head without feeling overly clamped on.
I was also fairly pleased with the companion Android app, as it gives control over things such as the level of noise canceling, or the sensitivity of the wear sensor. The latter is a feature to automatically pause your music when removing the headphones, and it seemed to work fairly well after a short pause. Changing settings within the app also result in audible confirmations through the headphones, although you can disable this feature. My only gripe with the app would be the desire for location permissions—not sure why this needed for headphones or a companion app.
Battery life seems to be very good; they are rated to 25 hours, and while I’m not 100% sure about this, I can say they do sip power slowly, and they charge very, very quickly with the included USB A to C cable.
Overall, I was very impressed with these headphones. They have a great, understated look with excellent build quality, good battery life, noise canceling, and versatile performance across a variety of uses. The aptX support is a plus, and I was pleased to be able to use this with my Pixel 2. (iPhones don’t support it however.) My only real complaint would be a desire for just a bit more bass, which affects movies more than music.

First off, the sound quality of the PX5 is very good. They offer a fairly balanced sound, with good clarity, separation and detail in the upper-mids and highs. Bass is a little thin, so these aren't the best for people who prefer a more bass heavy sound signature. They don't get extremely loud, so keep that in mind if you like to punish your eardrums. These do have some notable negatives, however.
Positives:
+ Balanced sound
+ Adjustable Active noise Cancellation
+ Quality construction
+ App available to download for your device
+ Auto pause of the audio when headphones are taken off
+ Can be paired to two devices
+ illumination notification for battery life, pairing status and calls
+ Ambient sound pass-through option
Negatives:
- Headband adjustment is a bit small for larger heads
- Headband is narrow and has very little cushion
- Headband has no markings or notched settings for size adjustment
- Clamping force is a bit strong and can cause discomfort
- ANC capability not up to par with similar priced competitors
- Headphones must be powered on when using 3.5mm wired
connection
- No voice or tone indicator for max volume
- Used as a wired headset with a mod-mic, volume not very loud
- Fairly heavy for this smaller sized headphones
- Only come with a soft case, not a hard case.
- Headphones do not fold up for portability
The PX5 come in at 265g when I weighed them on a scale that is usually accurate within 1-2 grams. B&W lists these at 241g, so they are a bit heavier than listed. 265g is not overly heavy, but for this size of headphones and on-ear style, they are little weighty and "bottom heavy." Comfort wise the ear cups have a nice cushions on them, but the clamping force can be a little bothersome after a short time of use. I have a slightly larger than average head and had to fully adjust the headband to maximum extension and they barely fit, so people with large heads may run into an issue with fit. The headband itself is thin and more rounded where your head rests, with very little padding. This can also cause some comfort issues with extended use. The PX5 just doesn't have a well designed headband and has no indicators of any sort to get the left and right sides matched.
A few other oddities of the PX5 are as follows. The headphones have nice voice prompts and tones for stuff like pairing and powering off, yet nothing for max volume level. This is a strange omission, as even most budget headphones have this. It's also strange that the headphones are required to be powered on when used in wired, passive mode. One of the benefits most Bluetooth headphones tout is the ability to continue listening to your headphones in wired mode if the battery runs out. Requiring the headphones to be powered on to run passively is not a good design.
Overall, these are a nice sounding pair of headphones for those who prefer a more flat sound signature. They have several quirks and their small size make them not a pair I would recommend for those with larger than average heads. For the MSRP, there are better, more comfortable options, but the PX5 certainly could be a good option for the right person that wants an on-ear headphone with ANC, as there aren't many on-ear ANC compared to over-ear ANC.

Excellent sounding headphones for my purposes and use. No complaints at all.. 1Would buy again. Solid purchase. Comfortable fit and nice styling. A hard shell case would be nice but have to go up a model and pricing to get that.

This is one of the few on ear designs with noise canceling. I would rank it slightly higher than the Apple Beats Pro. The fit is better, and the materials are of higher quality compared to the plasticky Beats. Highly recommended.

There is a lot to like about these wireless headphones. The headphones themselves have a luxurious feel. They aren't made of plastic, but carbon fiber which is a stronger material. So to adjust the proper placement for the earphones, you have to pull them out of the head loop individually, somewhat carefully, but they don't move around once you make your adjustment. The headband padding is decent, but may not feel that padded if you wear them for an extended amount of time. I have worn these for about an hour at a time, and I am okay with it.
Pairing these to my iPhone was simple, and they re-connect easily. I like how when I turn them on and they connect, a voice says "connected". The noise canceling is what I experienced with other similar headphones but these have different settings of: Off, Low, Auto, and High. And a voice tells you each time you push the button where you are at, which I think is a really nice feature.
The earpieces are labeled L and R, and have wear sensors. So if you lift one off of your ear, the audio mutes, although it doesn't stop playing. I don't mind this yet. I've been wearing these at home a lot because a neighbor is having a pool constructed, and that's pretty noisy. The on-ear cushions are soft and cushion-y, which I like a lot.
You can talk on your connected mobile phone with these if you get a call. There are three buttons under the right earphone for phone settings. When putting on and taking off these headphones, it is sort of easy to push the buttons by accident, so I need to figure out a way to not do that.
When I received these, I charged them and they were partially charged because it wasn't very long until the green light was showing as fully charged. I think the battery life is great. These also came with an appropriately long enough micro USB cord. They also came with an AUX cable in case you need it, and a nice looking carrying case with a small pocket inside to hold the cables.
Overall a well built set of wireless headphones. For the gift giving season, I would say check these out because they are way nicer than some other trendy products that are similar.

Man, what have I been missing all these years. I’ve ‘splurged’ on a couple of $70-$100 in-ear headphones before, but was never blown away. A couple of those broke, one pair is wrapped up in a drawer. I’ve been using some $20 low-grade bluetooths the past couple years strictly for convenience. The nice pair of Sennheisers I own have probably been used five-ten times - they are not wireless nor Bluetooth. I don’t have a way to use hardwired headphones in my home, and they are a pain to travel with.
Enter these B&W. My goodness.
Pros:
App is simple, and thorough. It recognizes your pair of headphones immediately and works simply as it should. The app also gives you examples as to different ways one can use the headphones, and also clearly describes what each of the buttons on both headphones is intended for.
Battery life. Out of the box they had a good charge. I ran it down to near bottom the first night out of the packaging. Recharged that Thursday night and it’s now Sunday night and the battery is fine. Grant it I probably only have 6-7 hours of use thus far. So perhaps I need to give more break-in time and see how long I can really get out of a full charge.
Comfort. Not bulky, not too heavy, not hard on my ears. For me, these are just comfortable to wear. Over the course of a Thursday night, Friday night, and mid-day Saturday, walked around doing household chores while breaking them in. And I sat on my couch for a bit to watch some live college football and an episode of Ray Donovan. I did these things with the specific intent to test for comfort, and how far away from my iPhone I could be. No difference in comfort, and I walked probably 30-40 feet away with no drop in Bluetooth whatsoever.
Sound and features. The sound bests anything else. Features and battery and all that are definitely positives, but if a pair of headphones for this cost doesn’t have good sound, then everything else is for naught. I love the built-in feature where if you’re listening to music or whatever, and pull the headphones off, they pause. When you put them back on they pick up right where you left off. It’s kind-of like an auto-off but they don’t actually power down.
The carrying case and cords are really slick. Again, not crucial but for this spend, B&W doesn’t mess around and provides the customer with a thorough offering. The Bluetooth connects immediately and allows for multi-device pairing, and as mentioned above has great allowance in terms of how far you can be from your connected device. I have these connected to two devices - iPhone and SoundTouch 300 soundbar. Great with both, lightning fast connectivity.
Nice to have features - can use them for phone calls, and has built-in buttons allowing user to skip a song, replay a song, hang up the phone.
Cons:
Just a couple, and one of the cons is trivial.
Con 1: When you are first getting started with these, you’re told to “download B&W app“. I downloaded the B&W PX app, thinking “these are PX headphones, this has to be the one”...but it was not the correct app. I went back in to the iTunes Store and ended up grabbing the right app. But so you know ahead of time, B&W has 4 or 5 apps in the iTunes store, so make sure you grab the right one.
Con 2: Not sure how to say this politely...for folks with larger heads, I don’t think these are going to be a long term solution for you. The headphones don’t expand as far as one would think. I am not a big dude and have what I would say is an average head size and leaner face. My PXs are expanded as far as they go and can confirm if my head was any bigger these probably wouldn’t fit. In short, you’ll logically try these on before buying anyway, so make sure you expand arms on the sides and make sure they’re going to fit.
So far so good with these. I’d strongly endorse these to family and friends and can easily...easily say, these headphones are absolutely terrific. Great job B&W!

Pros:
Multiple noise cancelling options
App pairing
Auto pause
Battery life
Cons:
Large size
Color options
These are the most comfortable on ear headphones I’ve used so far. Normally I have to use over the ear but these are comfortable enough and can swivel in all directions to get the best individual fit. They are rather large for on ear but that’s a personal preference. I like that there is a voice that guides you in the headphones through the different noise cancelling options as you switch through them. The high noise cancelling does an excellent job of shutting out a majority of noise. The passive is great for still being aware of your surroundings while still listening to music. The app that accompanies the headphones is simple and straight forward which is a huge plus. You can use the app to switch through the noice cancelling options instead of using the buttons on the headphones. One of the nicest options this has is that it automatically pauses the sound when you lift from one ear so you can have a quick conversation without having to pause on your phone or the headphones themselves. I would have liked a lighter color option like white or silver maybe but again that’s personal preference. The sound is great on these for podcasts, movies and music. It switches between them well and pairing to my devices was super easy. The battery lasts forever even with a ton of use and it charges faster than other headphones I use. I would highly recommend these.

These headphones are pretty awesome. They are a very comfortable it and look good too. They connect very easily. The app for these is pretty straight forward to set up but it is a bit tricky to adjust the settings for the best sound. But once you get it set right, the sound is excellent, which is what I expect from a company like Bowers & Wilkins. The noise cancelling is good. It drowns out most of the noise around you, but could be a little better. The battery is good. Holds a charge very well. I have about 7 hours of use on them so far and it plays just fine. I like the wear sensor feature. It pauses my music automatically if I take the headphones off. It helps when I'm laying down and the headphones shift when i move. Overall, these are some pretty awesome headphones. They do what they are meant to well. The only thing that needs to be improved is the ease of use on the app for the sound settings.

I am not an expert in audio technology and may not have the most discerning ear, but these sound fantastic. Very clear sound without distorting at higher volumes. No bass boost feature, but not an issue for me. Seems to be made of higher quality materials compared to a Sony set my son has. Very comfortable on my ears. Has a tight fit on my head but not uncomfortable. I prefer this stability but some people may find it too tight and uncomfortable after a period of time.
The noise cancelling aspect works well and has three settings depending on the environment you are in. This is easily changed on the left earphone and has voice prompts to let you know which setting you are on. Another nice feature is an auto pause function if you remove the earphone away from your ear. The Bowers and Wilkins Android app is helpful and easy to use. Battery life seems to be very good. Have not run it all the way down yet to see how many hours you I can get on one charge. I would definitely recommend these headphones.

Good Features and Sound, but Uncomfortable

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I have owned many wireless headsets over the years and consider myself to be an audiophile, so when I saw Bowers and Wilkins was making a new wireless headphone, I had to jump in. I like the smaller form factor, the sound quality and features on them, but I can not get past how uncomfortable they are!
SOUND:
The sound on these is pretty good. I appreciate it has a wide spectrum from 10mhz - 30khz. The drivers are an appropriate size for the form factor at 35. The bass is pretty clear and the highs are crisp, but the mids could be slightly better for a fuller sound, it is a bit thin for my taste. I EQ with apps so after doing that, it was slightly better, and also burning the speakers in helps as well.
FEATURES:
The bluetooth pairing was seamless, the fact it has USB C for charging is an added bonus, the app leaves more to be desired that you can download on your phone. I wish you could EQ there or have preset sound stages. You can only control the connection, the name, and the noise canceling. Speaking of which, the noise canceling is pretty good on these, and I appreciate the fact it has different variations of noise canceling; low, medium, high. The "low" one is ambient area and adjusts accordingly, high is complete silence. I like high the best. I also like how when you lift an ear bud slightly, it will pause your music automatically while you talk to someone and then automatically resume when you put the earpiece back over your head.
COMFORT:
Wow, I thought my Skullcandy crusher's were uncomfortable, but these are worse. I don't know if its my head shape or what, but I can not wear these for more than 30 minutes at a time without my ears being incredibly sore and almost to the point where I am getting a headache. My Sony noise canceling headphones are the most comfortable and those I can wear for hours on end without fatigue or discomfort. I could NEVER wear these on a plane because I would be taking them off every 30 minutes while my ears recover. This is the absolute most devastating part of these headphones, I want to like them, but I can't fathom wearing them for long.
All in all, they are solid wireless headphones that have a great battery life and build and sound quality, but be weary, they may be very uncomfortable for you! Perhaps if you have small ears you're fine, but these don't even fully cover my ears because of the smaller form factor. At this price point, I couldn't justify it.

The Bowers & Wilkins PX5 headphones are substantial. You know when you place these on your head that they are not a discount pair of headphones. Of course, they shouldn’t feel cheap, because they’re not. At $299.00, are they worth the investment?
The boxing is impressive, with the headphones secured in their own padded layer. Under, you get a nice fabric case that contains the charging cable, paperwork, quick start guide, and a very basic audio cable should you want to use them as corded headphones. The quick start guide will get you started, but I always prefer some words to clarify a few cryptic drawings (that I figured out). Charging takes a couple of hours or so with a light blinking while charging and going solid once complete. Pairing it to an iPhone XR was easy – the guide indicated you have to push the power button up 5 seconds to go into pairing mode, but mine paired simply by turning them on and having the phone in search mode. An audio female(ish) voice from the headphones lets you know when you are paired. Controls are standard, consisting of volume and track buttons on one side that double-down as phone answering buttons should you get a phone call. On the right is a noise canceling button that allows you to cycle through low, high, “auto”, or off, giving you again, an audio confirmation of your choice.
By downloading the companion app, you have basic controls over settings such as the noise canceling, standby timer, being able to turn voice prompts on or off, a “wear sensor”, etc., but nothing advanced like treble/bass/etc. Make sure you download the Bowers & Wilkins HEADPHONE app, as there are other choices not meant for these available. I found the app to be very basic and relied more on the controls on the headphones themselves, but some may find the app useful.
Sound is full and rich. Each person has different preferences, but for me, they have the right mix of treble and bass. Voices are clear when they are in recordings. Every once in a great while I did get a very short static-type blip, but they were nowhere often or long enough to be of an annoyance and I find this to be common on many Bluetooth audio devices. I tried it via the corded option on an Android phone that had a jack and likewise, the sounds were pretty much just as good (and would be better if you use a higher quality audio cord than what comes with it). You do need to use the power even when using a cord for any audio to work, and of course, the noise canceling feature. Battery life is very good. They rate it at around 24 hours, and while I haven’t used a stopwatch I would say at the very least it matches the claims. It’s going to vary depending on your use (volume, etc) but I would say I reached this claim.
My only nit-picks I’ll point out and they are not serious complaints: While overall the headphones are comfortable with soft cups, I have a large head, and over time they began to feel tight and warm on the ears. Not in a painful way by any means, but for “large-headed people”, after a few hours you may need a break. Also, when receiving a phone call, I could not get the buttons on the side of the headphones to answer or hang up a call every time – they were hit-and-miss. I had to use my phone’s screen a couple of times to do these, though the sound did come through fine once the call was connected and I could hear the caller fine. When using as corded headphones, the phone answering did not work at all – only (most times) when on Bluetooth. I did have to speak a bit louder than normal for them to hear me well, though. For me this is not a major feature to complain about. Last, the noise canceling does work, but I found no difference between the Low and Auto settings, and the High setting did let in a bit more noise than I would have found to be optimal for that level - but again, at least on some level, the feature does work at blocking out distractions.
So… are they worth $299? That’s up to you. Some people refuse to spend money even on quality items, and others will spend much more than an item is actually worth if it’s what they want. For some, I would say these are worth the money. Others may not agree. I know that’s a bit of a cop-out answer, but I think they are higher quality than the norm, and worth the price for those who don’t need the phone call function to work perfectly. On my personal rating scale of 1-10, I would give these a solid “8”.
