Better than Bose NC700 or Sony 1000XM4

After using Bose NC700 for 8 months and 3 returns/replacement from Bose. I gave up on it and was looking for a better replacement. Bought the Sony 1000XM4, used it for two days and had to return it, not for the sound quality issue; but for nasty white noise which it keeps emitting for noise cancellation. There are way to eliminate it, but then it should not happen in first place. Enter PX7 - A very low expectation after 2 big brands failed. Turns out, B&W kept its focus on most important things - Fitting, Comfort and Sound. Here are my observations 1. It connects with or without an App. Yay! 2. App is Simple to use. It does not have equalizer; but you really don't need one as sound is crisp and well-balanced for a normal consumer 3. It has buttons. With Sony and Bose, it was freaking difficult to predict if touch function will work or not. Things are much simpler here 4. Construction is solid. Sony looks the cheapest, Bose looks good, but PX7 looks even better. 5. You can listen wirelessly, with 3.5mm jack or with USB-C - Yeah!! 6. The ear cups are fantastic. Although, I will say Bose nails that area with most comfortable material, I do feel B&W is at 2nd place with a very slight margin. Sony's are the most horrible. I felt like my ears are trapped in XM4 7. Noise Cancellation - I feel Bose has best ANC, but I seriously don't care much once my music has started. Again, B&W is close 2nd. Sony was extremely disappointing as it's ANC feature made horrible humming sound randonly(No - it was set to Auto Mode) Cons 1. I wish if B&W were more compact to pack. But will sleek hardshell case, it ensures PX7 are secured and well protected

I owned Sony WH-1000M3, Bose 700, Bose QC35II & Bowers & Wilkins PX headphones. Out of all these headphones I would say these are my favorite. Reasons are the sound; great imaging, very open sound stage for closed back headphones and great bass, mids, and treble without overpowering each other; noise canceling, they can do better at canceling noise in really loud environments, but the good thing about B&W noise canceling is that it does not degrade the sound quality; build quality and looks, they’re very stylish headphones that are much more comfortable than the competition. I can wear these headphones for hours and it’s not annoying. Also they fit on the neck very comfortably. Battery life is great, I was able to take it on a flight to Japan from Utah, and by the end of the flight I still had more than 50% battery. Hopefully this review helps with your decision making on choosing NC headphones. There are lots of good NC headphones out there and these just happen to be my favorite.

Premium ANC headphones that compete directly with Sennheiser Momentum 3, and Bose NC700 (which I only tried in store). I purchased (and returned) the Momentum 3 because they didn't get as loud as PX7. Other than that both had excellent build quality, both had great sound. The PX7 has a sleeker look to it, the button controls work great. The included hard sided carrying is high quality as well. Best Buy did price match what it was being sold for by Amazon. IIRC it was $60 off? Which made it a steal compared to the $399 retail. Would buy again even at MSRP.

So I purchased Bose, Sony, B&O, and Sennheiser. Narrowed it down to Sony and B&O. It was a hard decision. Both sounded great, balanced, natural sound. B&O had a slightly more expansive sound stage and were a touch sharper. Their NC is good, not great. They have no touch controls and the buttons are not comfortable to me. They are premium build in all respects. They are a bit heavy and don't fold into a small package. They are premium, great sounding headphones and worth the money. I chose the Sony because they sound 99% as good as B&O, have class leading NC and touch controls and are lighter and more comfortable. You may find the B&O better, if you do, buy them. You can't go wrong.

I will pick these anytime over Sony and Bose. ANC, Sound, Bass, Design, Build quality, ease of use, app use is unmatched. I cannot think of even returning these. 10/10 undoubtedly.

Sound is awesome, very comfortable to wear light on the head Easy to connect. Controls are easy to learn do wish sound + button was more pronounced and there was an app for PC to adjust pass through and ANC while on laptop /Tidal ,Spotify auto off works and volume can be set though. Lastly they should connect to B&WFormation.

Love B&W. Always have. My home system speakers are the same brand, but I was a little put off by the price. I took the leap and got them anyway. They are great sound, of course. The noise cancelling is more sound deadening, but it is substantial. They are very comfortable, and hold a charge for several days use.

This is a review after ~4 days of ownership For reference, I own Master & Dynamic MW7, Bowers&WIlkins P7, Bowers&WIlkins PX7, Sony WH-1000XM2, Bose 700, Master & Dynamic MW65. I also tried two BW PX units last year but returned them due to their bad sound quality. Build quality seems fine. The cups do stick out a bit too much, but these are larger than usual drivers(44mm vs the usual 40mm from other manufacturers). Went on a few walks and I don't hear any squeaks. The cup size is great for my large ears. The drivers are tilted and so do not touch my ear. The Sony's i have do touch my ear and cause fatigue pain after 2hrs of wearing. The cups are much softer than the last gen PX model so the clamping force does not give me jaw pain like the PX used to. The head band is a bit too stiff and causes some discomfort for me. Sound quality is amazing. Better than the P7s, way better than the PXs, better than the Sonys. I think only my Master&Dynamic MW65s sound better. They support APTX-HD and adaptive for android phones, as well as AAC for hi-def apple device experience. Multiple devices work great with each one fading-in if you play something on it. ANC quality is surprisingly good. I would say Sony < PX7 < Bose700, but very close. I think you can only tell if you swap them one after the other to compare. As I tested the ANC it turns out my Sonys emit the slightest hiss with full ANC which I never noticed before in my 2yrs of use... Go figure. I only found out when I compared them in fully silent room with ANC on full. Controls are fine. You get an audible narration of the important stuff (ANC level, on/off). There are no touch controls which I don't miss much from my Sonys but they do seem to work quite well on the Bose700s. The buttons are physically quite different and I've had no trouble hitting the correct button while walking. All in all, this is BW back to its expected quality. Highly-recommended set of ANC headphones. BTW, I read somewhere a reviewer had an issue with volume limiter on high ANC. I tested a bunch of times and can get the volume to quite uncomfortable levels with full ANC. I noticed however if you enable the Ambient sound pass-through in the app that it lowers the volume so I wonder if this is the case that the other reviewer encountered.

After a week of researching both the Bowers & Wilkins PX7 and Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones, I decided to go with the PX7. I had an opportunity to compare the two by streaming Tidal hi-res via Bluetooth and jumping back and forth between the two headphones, utilizing the same tracks. Both are great, although I feel the PX7 perform with better separation in instruments, better clarity and sound staging, all while having a little warmth/sweetness to the vocals that retains the music’s emotion. The fit and finish of the PX7 also seems more sturdy and luxurious. The Sony is well thought out, although the B&W won me over by making great sound with an attractive design and solid build.

Awesome headphones with solid, crisp bass and smooth sound. A really good fit for those that like bassy tracks, really frustrating that they are quite uncomfortable if you have a big head, they have quite a strong clamping force

Beautifully built. Sound quality is just too good. They are super comfortable and can last ages on a single charge. Using them most times gaming ,watching TV, or just listening to music. Feels like they have a super computer built into them. Best headphones in this class.

I don’t know where to start—but these headphones has changed my perspective on the quality of art. I was unsure about getting these due to the cost and after spending time researching different headphones I kept seeing that these have a soundstage the outdoes the competition. I did my research on what “soundstage” was and, my dumbed down definition being the placement of music from instruments on a stage, decided to try these. I never knew how much detail in songs I was missing. Also, I used these while watching a movie on my laptop and it was even details in movie that were incredible to hear. These are very well worth the price if you can afford them. P.S: you can also connect to two things at once with these headphones.

Unfortunately this won't be a positive review for these headphones. But before I get into the negatives let me highlight some of the positives I had. Positives: These headphones had fantastic battery life. I would easily go a couple weeks of moderate use without having to charge them. Obviously that'll change depending on how much you use them, but overall the battery will not disappoint you. Next positive would definitely have to be their active noise cancelling effect. I was impressed with how well they blocked out most noise. I would compare them to the level of Bose noice cancelling. Turn the volume up with whatever you're listening to and you'd be hard pressed to hear anything. Another positive would definitely have to be the Bowers and Wilkins Headphones app. This app allows you to update the firmware of the headphones whenever a new version is out. It also has sound scapes such as a thunderstorm to fall asleep too. I've used these features many times and they're wonderful. Negatives: Here we are with the negatives. The first negative would have to be how I wasn't impressed with either the sound or the volume of them. They sounded okay for headphones, definitely not bad but they had a very neutral tone to them. Nothing stuck out, the highs never hurt my ears (it's an odd way of putting it but I love when highs kind of pierce my ears drums.) And again, they never got very loud, sure with that I never heard any distortion but at the same time I felt that they could definitely go louder without any distortion. And the deal breakers for why I cannot recommend these. I went through 2 pairs within 6 months. My first pair after about a month of moderate use I started hearing a metallic popping sound, as if something very small was rattling inside the cup. That was pretty annoying especially because of the price of these headphones. So I returned them and exchanged them for the same unit. Probably a fluke, it happens with electronics. Everything was good for about two months then that same problem happened again. This time I didn't immediately return them because I could live it. Then one day I turned them on and straight away I was blasted in my ears with a loud hissing sound from both cups. I didn't understand why they were doing that so I power them off and on and same hissing sound. I then tuned off the ANC and it went away. What's the point of these if I have to tune off the ANC in order to use them? That's one of their main selling points and that stopped working after about 7 months. I understand a one time issue but twice is unacceptable, especially from Bowers and Wilkins. I have much higher standards for B&W because of their reputation. And if this is what quality control they have I cannot recommend the PX7.

Sound quality is somewhat subjective. That’s why most audio equipment reviews are not very helpful. Not to worry, friend, I’m here to help. Read on... For instance, I just returned and exchanged the popular Sony XM3s for these PX7s. Why? Among other nagging issues, I found the XM3s had really muddy mid-bass levels that couldn’t be rectified. Those are my ears. Perhaps you won’t have that issue when listening to the Sony headphones. Cut to the chase: On the merits of hi fidelity sound alone, put these PX7s to the test and see if you’re not blown away—like I was— at what 400 bucks worth of audio equipment will get you in 2020. The test: Stream at least 16 bit sound (you’re likely never going to sample 24 bit rates with any wireless headset as they are all still a bit lossy) wirelessly through your phone, laptop, desktop, or similar device. I used Apple Music, Deezer Premium, and Amazon HD. Now, find Chesky Records The Ultimate Demonstration Disc, 1996 release. The album literally walks you through a perfect battery of sound checks and tests. For those in the know, Chesky Records sound engineering is legendary in audiophile and recording circles. You’ll notice the difference in sound quality of this album immediately even if you’re rocking cheap ear buds. After you’ve finished listening to the Chesky disc, get back to me, and tell me I am your new best friend for recommending something that will put a huge smile on your face as you’re listening to your favorite music on a completely new level of Wow! Full disclosure: Bowers & Wilkins didn’t pay me one quid or penny to write this review—although they should after I drive big business their way...
