This movie didn't need a plot; life itself was the plot of this movie. The plot is simple; it shows a 5-year old boy growing up into a young adult. The cast wasn't just talented; they were themselves - I can't believe the movie features the same cast for the course of 10 years! The film, overall, was able to make us relate to each and one of the characters by showing us what we like, how we feel, and whom we are close to. This is truly a movie to not be missed!

Boyhood is an ode to growing up and parenting. It is a trip through nostalgia over the first decade of the new millennium. It is not about the story, but more the fleeting feelings in each moment of our lives. It is about moments in that they are constant, a promotion to inspire the idea that there are always an abundance of memories to be made. It makes one wonder why memories are vital and reasons these are what make up the relevance of our human experience. What it is about Boyhood that makes it stand out more than the "gimmick" of creating it over twelve years though is that it highlights the moments in our lives where we don't always strive towards what our ambitions reach for. Just because you don't have what you want doesn't make that time in your life wasted time, but instead a true test of your character where it hopefully does with it something that leads to an even more invigorating experience.

    One-of-a-kind movie

The new norm for movie releases is to initially market it at around $25 but for the first few days it is released it is cheaper, or in this case $20. I managed to snag it the day of the release because I'm a young college guy and this made me feel every possible nostalgic there is. Richard Linklater is really good at depicting seemingly normal life events in a creative and entertaining way, as was the case with Dazed and Confused. This is no exception, as I write this pre-Oscars, and I am fully confident that this will likely grab best picture, as well as director. If you appreciate film, and you are looking for a story that is not complicated by superheroes, fantasy worlds, or whatever the blockbuster, you should watch this right now.

First off, this is a LONG movie. I think the total time clocks in at almost three hours. With that being said, it was an excellent film. Granted, there was no real "Story" or plotline per say, but just showing the life of a young man through his defining years. Dealing with multiple divorces of his mom, peer pressure, step families, it was very relatable to me which made it that more enjoyable. Seeing the characters not only grow emotionally over the time period but physically made the experience that much more authentic. The Oscar win for the woman playing the mother was well deserved. Her breakdown scene at a friends house is something all parents have felt at one time or another, it just takes courage to admit it.

    The year's best film

"Boyhood" was my favorite film of last year. The most prevalent thought I had watching it was that there were no false moments in the film and no manufactured crises to overcome. We are simply watching life unfold over 12 years as a boy becomes a young man. The performances are all superb, and Richard Linklater should be commended for having the patience and skill to create this film bit by bit for over 12 years. There are documentaries like the "7 Up" series, and fictional films such as Linklater's own "Before" trilogy which chronicle the same characters over extended periods of time, but in the span of a single film "Boyhood" is an accomplishment that we probably won't see attempted again, so savor it.

    Moving Slice of Life Picture

This is a very personal film, made by Richard Linklater, about the universal experience of growing up in modern America. Shot over 12 years in small vignettes every year to illustrate the ups and downs of being a boy at different points in the life of the main character. We as viewers get to see his loving but separated nuclear family grow up along with him along with some other tertiary characters. It all somehow comes together into a cohesive and moving film that isn't about anything in particular but becomes a study in life.

Richard Linklater has achieved the impossible, to capture on film the life of a boy growing into a man. Critics (almost universally non-parents) may claim that the movie feels like a sequence of unconnected events. But isn't that what life is? There are no explosions or alien invasions in Boyhood, only the experiences of one kid and those people that surround him. Appreciate how fast life flies by and when you hear Patricia Arquette's speech at film's end (one which undoubtedly sealed her Best Actress Oscar win) you'll see why Boyhood won the Best Picture Golden Globe.

Art Imitating Life in 'Boyhood' and it's EPIC

Boyhood is the quintessential coming-of-age film directed by Richard Linklater that is definitely a MUST-OWN FILM on all formats in this combo pack. The picture and sound transfer to BluRay is not state-of-the-art, but it's good quality for both aspects. For extras, the iTunes and Ultraviolet redemption code is still active and although you're not getting the over 2-hour featurette treatment like Paramount's recent big home video releases, like Interstellar and Transformers: Age of Extinction, but they are definitely worth it for the offered price.

We've watched this film several times (once in the theaters), and every audience we've shared it with has been taken by the fact that we're watching the same actors over a 12-year period. Our children and their friends are part of the Millenials (or Generation Y), and they agree that this film is definitely a representation of their generation, just like The Big Chill represented the Baby Boomer generation.

While this film is rather long, it's still fascinating to watch this story unfold in such a nostalgic manner. To actually film this for 12 years is such a novel idea. I kept thinking what I was doing during this time frame with the character. You can't help it. It's like reliving the past a bit and there was nothing wrong with that in this movie. Worth a the view and if you're a filmmaker or cinema lover this film is for you easily.

Although Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke are familiar enough to invite fans to watch this movie, it's the age progression of characters Mason and sister Sam that make this movie unique. Boyhood was filmed over a 12 period so separate actors for young and old characters aren't necessary. Mason is played by Ellar Coltrane and his sister's character is played by Lorelei Linklater, the daughter of Director Richard Linklater. Definitely Oscar worthy.

I thought the idea of filming the life of a boy over several years as he grows up was an interesting concept. I have a son myself, so I was very interested in comparing some of the issues Mason faced with the issues my son complain about. I really enjoyed the movie. It moved at a good pace, and I thought the acting was very good. The other characters were developed just enough to make them interesting , but not so much as to over shadow the main character.

It's hard to believe that no one had tried this cinematic endeavor before. The film depicts a young man's coming of age amidst his parents' divorce, remarriages, and failures in love. It chronicles the star's real life growth from first grade to college. A delightful movie that anyone and everyone can relate to. The viewer will often find himself wondering off mentally as the scenes and journey can be all too personal and nostalgic.

If you haven't seen this film by now, you have missed a rare opportunity! The Oscar that went to Patricia Arquette was certainly deserved for her great performance as young Mason's mom; Ethan Hawke comes through, as always, with a stellar reading as the Dad, and Ellar Coltrane is totally charming as he grows up during the 12 years it took director Linklater to complete this unique masterwork. See it NOW !!!

This is a simple and beautiful film that follows a family for 12 years told mostly from the sons perspective. And that's it. And yet somehow it's riveting to watch. Linklaters decision to shoot the film over a 12 year period could've been used as a gimmicks but it wasn't, it was used simply and smoothly to tell the story. Loved it.

I'll never forget the experience that I had while watching this film. It's simply pure and authentic when it comes to the story. It's impossible for anyone to watch this and not reflect on one's own journey through their walk in life's hardships and moments. Richard Linklater is a great director and all of the cast is simply terrific. Easily one of the greatest films of all time

Loved this movie the most out of the Oscar nominated movies of 2014. Possibly more profound than even Richard Linklater's "Before" Trilogy. I was engaged throughout, and wanted to see how the characters would end up at the end of this 12 year journey. The Blu-ray appears to be faithful to the source material in terms of picture, and there are a few bonus features, which are worth checking out.

Well written and directed! A movie we can all relate to at some point of our lives. It's amazing to watch the characters grow over a 11yr period which is how long it took to film this movie, there was no actor changes, it was that same boy when he was little as he grew up! All that work and comittment certainly paid off! Kudos to all the actors for such a great film.

Director Richard Linklater deserves kudoes for his innovative approach of focusing on the growing up pains of a boy (from age 6 to 18). What makes this film so creative and unusal is that it was filmed in just 39 days with the same actors over a 10 year period. Praise should be given to actors Patricia Arquette, Ethan Hawke (the boy's parents) and to Ellar Coltrane (the boy).
