Customers are saying

Customers regard the Series 9 Wet/Dry Electric Shaver highly for its excellent shaving quality, ease of use, and long battery life. The cleaning station and quieter operation are also frequently praised. However, some customers find the price to be a drawback, and a few have noted that the trimmer and size could be improved. Overall, positive feedback on shaving performance and convenience outweighs concerns about cost and minor design elements.

Great electric shaver. Good quality. I was expecting maybe a little more metal than plastic with the price of the shaver, but that doesn't mean it's not great quality. Super light easy to hold in different positions. Shaves extremely close. There's a ton of real estate on the head itself so its tricky to get in tight corners. Trimmer on the backside cuts closer to the skin than any of my other trimmers so thats plus. I drive shave with this and have zero problems with shaver burns or break outs. The cleaning station works very well and helps keep the head oiled. I like that it has a fan in the station that dries the head after auto-cleaning. Has a really good battery. The heads are super expensive so take care of it and keep it clean.

This is my 3rd Braun in my life and the best shaver I've owned. My last was a series 5 and I still like it but the batteries and screen needed replaced and it was a dozen years old so I upgraded (and fixed the old one for a spare to keep in my travel bag.) The new razor is smooth & quiet. I like the pop up trimmer on the old one better because on this one you have to turn it around in your hand to use it. Not a big deal. This one's a little pricey but for something you use every day, it's worth the investment. I'm still not a fan of running them through the cleaning cycle daily like it recommends, they like to sell supplies! I just run mine through a cycle every week or two and recap the fluid cartridge in between.

I bought this for my husband for Christmas and he loves it. He has always used Norelco but the reviews on this one were great so I got him this nicer one. He has not complained about shaving one time since! He is not getting razor burn or having any trouble at all. He loves the self cleaning feature. It is a real hit in our house and a great shaver.

After years of shaving problems, happy to say problem solved! I was reluctant to try an electric shaver as I never thought it would give a close shave. I’ve tried everything, and for years have had razor burn, and adult acne no matter how hard I worked at avoiding it. As a last ditch effort, I decided to give this a try and all of these issues were solved to my surprise. I love that it is easy to maintain and easy to clean. For me, it works better on a dry face. I did try it in the shower and it irritated my face a little, but I probably over did it.

I have used electric razors since I started shaving which is over 40 years now. The Braun series 9 is by far the best razor I have ever used. For years I have used rotary razors from Norelco and was pretty pleased with the results. I recently had to replace the shaver head on my 9300 and the replacement head was not as good as the original, so I started shopping around for a new razor. After some research I decided to give the Braun series 9 a try. The razor exceeded my expectations and shaves much closer than any razor I have ever used. The closeness rivals that of a traditional razor and I even started to use it on my head which I now shave because of this razor. I have sensitive skin and this razor produced very little if any razor burn. Like I mentioned before, I have been using electric razors for a long time so maybe this had something to do with the comfort level. I do not have a thick beard but I can have a day or two of growth and this razor has no problems with it. I especially like using it in the shower with shaving cream which I feel makes the shave even closer and more comfortable than that of a dry shave. I didn't think I was going to like the cleaning station, but now I have used it, I really like it. I drop the razor in, the unit cleans and charges the razor for the next use. I have not had to replace the cleaning solution yet and it has been almost a month. All in all, great razor!

Flawed locking mechanism on the Series 9

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

After using the Braun Series 5 for many years I finally upgraded to the Series 9. Initially I liked the look and feel of the unit and it seemed quieter than the old one. The head is larger than the older Series 5, but after using it for a while I found that the larger head was more difficult to get into the contours and tight spots. My biggest gripe about the Series 9 is the flawed locking mechanism. The Series 5 locking mechanism is rock solid, and keeps the head from moving at all when locked. My Series 9 still rotates with the slightest amount of force when it's supposed to be locked, and this gets very annoying when I'm trying to use the edge foils to shave close (the center cutters are only good for the long hairs). I reported the flaw to Braun Service and they told me to send it in for repairs, which I did. When it came back almost 3 weeks later (slow service) the unit was in the same state as before, and possibly even weaker than before, and it smelled like it had been tested on a homeless person's beard. When I complained that the repairs were not successful, I got the following reply from Braun Service: Hello, The head on the series 9 does not lock 100% they will move if enough force is used, this is by design and is not a defect. If it’s moving while shaving you are most likely using to much pressure, only a light touch is required to get a good shave. Thank you, Gary Really Gary? Then why don't you say that in your advertising instead of using a PADLOCK icon to represent the lock feature. False advertising. Needless to say I am very disappointed with the quality of the Series 9 shaver, now that I've been told by Braun that their flawed design is intentional, and I will not be able to lock the head for a close shave. Believe me, it takes very little pressure to get the head to move on my unit when it's supposed to be locked, and I cannot press hard enough to get a close shave without moving the head around. For now, I am using my old Series 5 instead of my brand new Series 9 shaver. I may have to try to jam something between the head and the body of the shaver to try and lock it down so I can go back to using it again.

Love this new model of the new Braun series 9 that is re designed . This new 9 fits your hand better and has new technology built into the razor than the previous 9 in the cleaning station and in the razor. This razor shaves real close and clean up is a breeze & the razor has a drying feature to dry the razor residue solution off. So for the price Best Buy charges for this razor it is a real good deal.

Over the years I’ve owned several Braun shaver’s, as well as a Norelco or two. They usually last me several years, and are usually move on from them after I get dissatisfied with the quality of the shave. I recently purchased this item along with the self cleaning base, it is a significant improvement over my Braun 5000 series And my Norelco. Close clean shave, good cleaning system, good battery life.

My Series 7 recently started falling apart after nine years. That's one testament of Braun shavers' quality, which I've been using since the late 1980s. It was difficult to jump to the Series 9 based on price and how great of an experience I had with the Series 7. Boy am I glad I made the leap, and Best Buy had a great sale on the Series 9 when I purchased it. This Series 9 shaver is really quiet and I didn't realize how loud the the 7 series was until I started using this one. That goes for the base/cleaning unit too. After a brief initial start up, this one is absolutely whisper quiet. The Series 7 is a rattle trap. I always appreciated how the Series 7 left my face feeling baby bottom smooth, but my skin felt fairly agitated in the process, and I always had to make multiple passes to get that affect. It usually hurt my skin to take a shower immediately after shaving. The Series 9 is amazing. Less passes to achieve the perfect shave, zero skin agitation, no burning affect to my skin if I jump in the shower immediately after shaving, and it does a fantastic job on my neck. Far better than the Series 7, and overall the Series 7 was excellent. The Series 9 is superb!

I've owned 3 different Braun shavers over the years, as well as some from Panasonic and Norelco. The Brauns have always performed better, and lasted longer than the others that I have tried. I've owned 500 and 700 series and they have been great. Decided to try the 9 series, as I wanted to see if it would shave more closely on my neck, and jawline. I was not disappointed. Closest shave I've ever had with an electric. No irritation, and I can shave much more quickly than with the 5 series that it replaced. Love that! If you have not tried the cleaning system, you are really missing out. Keeps it feeling new for years! Plus, it just looks really nice to have a storage solution that sits on the counter and keeps it charged. Only difference in the one pictured, and the one I received is the digital readout that shows the charge level. Picture shows a number, but mine has bars that show the level, instead of the number. No big deal to me. Great razor, and I highly recommend it! Worth the money!

This is my 3rd Braun shaver. Previously the 3, 7, and now 9. Its definitely the most powerful and well. I was slightly disappointed with the design. It feels cheap and is quite bulky. The size blocks my view at certain angles. Comparing with my 7 series the 9 cuts better and the battery lasts longer, but I prefer the size and grip of the 7.

    Best Electric I have tried

Over the years, like many guys, I have used every shaving method for a decent period of time to fully evaluate if it was for me: cartridge razors, disposables, electric, double edge (traditional shaving razors) and even actual straight razors. I actually still greatly enjoy traditional shaving, however the fact remains that it is time consuming for me. I was looking for a quick and convenient way to get a "decent" shave in the morning or while traveling and thought I might revisit electric. I used a Norelco rotary for two years and my face never really liked it--the ingrowns never went away, and there were always missed hairs. I also used a cheap foil razor in the military, and again, my face always felt itchy for a few hours after using it. After many years, I decided to see if technology has improved and take another gamble with an electric. Most manufacturers give a decent guarantee period, so that helped with the decision. I had two factors: One, no rotary. Two, I'm getting a top of the line shaver. That left me with the Panasonic ARC5 and Braun series 9. I chose the Braun because in all the reviews I have read, it seemed to cater to sensitive skin best, and many shavers were amazed at the lack of irritation. Panasonic got higher marks for closeness, but Braun for overall shaving comfort. The model I bought was the 9295 (chrome version w/ cleaning station). Never had a cleaning station so I figured I'll see what that is about. I found the Braun Series 9 to be exactly what I was looking for. I was blown away at the lack of irritation--I really couldn't believe my face didn't feel itchy or have red spots on it, even during the first few shaves. After a few weeks, the ingrowns are completely gone, so no issues there. I still have to do some creative skin stretching, but I'm also not getting missed hairs like I did with rotary razors. Finally the closeness is impressive, considering the fact that the blades never actually touch your skin. Of course I get a closer shave with a double edge razor, but the Braun gives a very satisfactory shave and its exactly what I wanted out of this razor. I get a good half a day with my skin completely smooth and not until the evening do I start feeling the growth--again, for an electric not bad. I like the cleaning station as well. I don't consider the refills to be overly expensive (best buy has and excellent price on these actually) as they last about a month, and I'm glad I got the cleaning station as the razor feels brand new every time I use it. Since it also lubricates the head, some residue will remain on the sides of the head, but its a non-issue. I have read reviews that criticize the chrome color of this razor as it is a "finger print magnet." Not sure about this one--I seem to be able to keep mine pretty clean without a whole lot of effort, but I can see if your hands are oily then it would be an issue. While it is made of plastic, it doesn't feel cheap. Also, I have used it with water and shaving cream and both seemed to improve the experience. Most days I just used Lab Series electric pre-shave and I'm good. As for any dislikes--I'm not the biggest fan of the side trimmer. It works, but feels awkward. Also, I'm not sure how I would like it without the cleaning station, and with the cleaning station it seems like it would be a hassle during travel. Seems like it would require some effort to clean without the station, and I have also read that the cleaning indicator doesn't go away unless its plugged into a cleaning station. I don't know why they would sell a version without one if that's true, but I would definitely recommend getting the cleaning station. Just make sure you have room on your counter to give up for it. Overall, I am extremely happy with the Braun Series 9. It gives a great shave with zero irritation, and I find it to be extremely convenient and high quality. Yes the price is on the high side, but this is very much an individual perspective and I find it worth its cost. I don't really have another equal point of reference to compare it to as I have never used a Series 7 before (many people upgrading to this one seem to be coming from a series 7), or a high end foil shaver. The rotary was the closest and the experience is night and day. I'll grow a beard before using a rotary again. If you are considering this razor, know that it is quite effective and also probably the most gentle on your skin (this still amazes me). At the end of the day, it IS an electric razor and by the nature of design it will be impossible for it to be as close as a cartridge or double edge razor. However, as far as electrics go, I can't see anything else that is currently being sold topping this one.

This is the second Braun cordless electric shaver I have bought, the first was 30 years ago but had the thinner more flimsy foil heads. This shaver is a bit more costly than the models a few decades ago, but worth it. The 9 series shaver is about like the top BMW/Rolls for what I have been experienced with. The shave is close, though like with a lot of electric shavers you can't shave in 30 seconds and get great results. On average I am done with my shave in about 5-6 minutes and is a close shave. I have sensitive skin but this shaver keeps me safe and does not irritate. I like the fact this unit is water proof and can b e used in the shower with shave gel. It also has a pretty good auto cleaning/charging system, or can use direct power plug for charging. I have had my 9 series for a little over 2 months and shave 5-6 days per week. So far it is keeping up to the hype. Remember maintenance and proper operation is always the key. The instruction manual may be a little vague, but with online resources you can figure it out easily.

Braun makes excellent electric razors, and I've bought two of these (one for my father). My first Braun I got from my grandfather when I was 16 and I didn't have to replace it until 15 years later. This Braun came after my second one died...17 years after I'd gotten it. Important caveats: 1) How often you need it depends on your genetics - you may need it twice a day, once a day, or once every other day. 2) This is not a perfect replacement for a blade. I still need to use a blade about once a week when the stubble grows too tough to get a clean shave. 3) You really want to take your time, go slow moving it over your skin, and not press down. It's like a self-guided lawnmower in that sense--you'll strain things if you push it, so you just slowly walk it across the stubble and let it cut at its own pace. The Clean & Charge system is a neat idea. Once I week I take the lid off the liquid cartridge, load it in the base, and press the button & walk away. I was surprised when I had to move and the charger was packed, that my razor lasted for two weeks of daily use on one charge. As long as Braun keeps making such great stuff, I'll keep buying their products...on those rare occasions when I need to.
