Customers regard the Series 9 Wet/Dry Electric Shaver highly for its excellent shaving quality, ease of use, and long battery life. The cleaning station and quieter operation are also frequently praised. However, some customers find the price to be a drawback, and a few have noted that the trimmer and size could be improved. Overall, positive feedback on shaving performance and convenience outweighs concerns about cost and minor design elements.

First off my beard type is thick and I would say I have pretty sensitive skin. I was very hesitant to purchase this since I am used to rotary shavers but after a few years of wanting to try this I decided to go ahead and if I didn't like it I could return it and have this curiosity out of my head about what if. Well after I used it for awhile going back and forth between this and my Norelco 9700 it has been tough because they both offer such good comparable things. First, I love both razors and still have both the Norelco for home and the Braun for work since I use it every morning for work while at home I only use it once a week. The Braun is actually cheaper also which is nice. Pros and Cons to the Norelco 9700: Pros- Lightweight, I love how easy this is to handle, it's durable and even though plastic it still feels like good quality especially with the light rubber grip. I love how silent the cleaning station is for this razor as well as the touch button to power it on and the lights are fun to watch and check the status of. The cleaning solution lasts a super long time, I just recently on July 31st changed out the first cartridge I had when I ordered that razor on September 6th, 2016, although I do only use it once a week and clean it every week, I would say it does last about two months on a normal cleaning schedule for anyone else. I like how the blades feel across my face and the speed settings are a nice feature just not that needed. Cons- The blades tend to irritate my skin after going over hard to get places for a long period of time which is understandable but it should be getting a close shave after a few passes but it never gets smoother just more irritated. The razor doesn't have a pop up trimmer like it's previous models, while it's nice it comes with a separate trimmer it's not that big and a bit more hassle to remove the head and place the trimmer just to get a pesky sideburn hair. The cleaning station takes a long time to clean and dry about 4 hours which is ridiculous and all that time pretty much using more electricity I feel than it needs to. As for the Braun I feel it is a way smoother more comfortable shave and does get a bit closer to a straight shave than the Norelco. Pros- Nice handle feels comfortable to hold even for a longer shave. A wonderful pop-up trimmer that is a decent size width and fun to pop up and down and the head doesn't get in the way for me although a bit difficult to see I suppose it just better than a separate one. Cleaning station is a smaller profile which I love and has one button so it's easy to use and not accidentally press, I love the magnets that hold the razor in the station a nice feature I didn't realize it had. I love how fast it is to clean and dry like 43 mins for drying to complete than about another 15 mins to charge the razor so a total time of an hour and everything is done and when it comes out it smells amazing, like a lemon pledge which was unusual but somehow very pleasing, I sometimes like to just open up the razor case and smell it during the day for no reason but to hold it feel how nice it is and smell. I love the travel case way more than Norelco's, it's softer yet sturdy and the zipper actually works better and feels nice to move, it has a low profile compared the the Norelco which fits better and looks even better also. I love the feel of the blades going across my skin even more than the Norelco, it it a nice change to shaving styles from the small circles to a straight line but you can still move it in small circles to try and get stubborn hairs. It's a smoother more comfortable and closer shave I feel, my stubble takes a little longer to come back compared to Norelco and less neck irritation, although as soon as I am done shaving there is a bit of redness it doesn't hurt as bad as Norelco and it goes away soon after. It gets my sideburns better and under my nose easier than a rotary shaver, it lines up the sideburns better since it is a straight head which makes it not that necessary to use the pop up trimmer except in some cases whereas the Norelco I have to aim just right to get a straight line. I used this razor on a 5 day stubble growth and it tore through it like butter with no pulls or tugs or anything it was amazing and felt great, I was surprised because the Norelco can barely handle a 3 day growth, it takes a long time and I don't get all the hairs in the neck area at all, it's always patchy but more fun to watch emptying the Norelco head when finished to watch all the loose hair that it cut. Cons- The cleaning cartridge is a bit smaller I feel compared to Norelco, which may explain why it only lasts about a month compared to the two month of the other. To save it from evaporating when i'm at home I close the cartridge up with the included cap which is nice because Norelco doesn't have a cap for their cartridges. I like that the Norelco cartridge is in the front while Braun is in the back for the opening so I have to move it to put the cartridge back in which is a bit of a hassle compared to Norelco. The cleaning station is way louder than Norelco's and the razor is loud also but I would say only a bit louder than Norelco but not by much and is expected for a foil shaver. Cleaning the razor head when finishing shaving is a bit more difficult for the Braun taking the head off and rinsing it isn't as easy as Norelco but not bad or super negative just takes getting used to. The cleaning station also leaves a bit of a residue inside after cleaning so you have to get a cloth or something to clean that up every once in awhile. Norelco has had no residue since I got it. The Braun cleaning station is also very easy to scratch and leave marks, it's super sensitive to oil on hands or anything, there was a speck of dust on it so I wiped it away with my finger and it left this huge scratch micro scratches everywhere as soon as I took of the peel for the protective cover, which is fine just not pretty to look at anymore. Overall I would definitely recommend this shaver over the Norelco and if I could go back and return my Norelco I would and just have this one to take back and forth from work. If you're on the fence about this I think you'll appreciate this build quality and shaving experience better but it is personal preference and what beard type you have and how sensitive your skin is. I hope this review helps. Good luck.

Barber Shop shave every time!!

I have been using Philips Norelco for over 25 years, the ones with the 3 round blades. They were sufficient for a long time. I also get a barber shop shave when I get my hair cut every 4-6 weeks (Not so much in 2020). If you ever had a barber shop shave, it is the closest shave you will ever have, I typically don't have to shave for 2 days after I get it.
My Philips Norelco blades had to be replaced pretty often, the battery wasn't lasting long anymore.
I decided to look into other shavers and reviews brought me to the Braun Series 9. The ratings were extremely high, complaints were low. I was not a fan of straight foil shavers like this in the past for no particular reason. I had always figured the 3 circular blades went in multiple directions, for it must be better. It's marketing hype. I bought this a month ago, and have been impressed. This shaver has exceeded my expectations. The first morning, I shaved up and down, and found it to be a closer shave than what I've had with any electric shaver. You get that little stubble you can feel in some directions, I ran it against the grain and less than 10 minutes later it was as close a shave as I walk out with from a Barber shop. The chrome finish looks a little flashy for a razor at first, until you realize the function to the finish is that it is reflecting the light on those areas you are shaving. I have been using this shaver for a month, and it has been consistent. I could go a day without a shave plenty of times, it is that close. When I'm done shaving, the shaver reminds you to clean it. I remove the blade, a quick tap in the sink, I brush out the shaver section, and wash the blade section in hot water, it is like new and ready to go for the next morning. Once or twice a week I place it in the cleaning stand to top off the charge and get the blades cleaned and lubricated. There is a mild fish lemon smell to that. This Shaver has been much easier to maintain every time I use it, I get the same close shave every single time.
A couple weeks ago I went for a haircut, I was talking with my barber about it, he has one in the shop he uses for touch ups and he uses one at home. Good enough for a pro, definitely good enough for me. I am so happy with this purchase. I have bought plenty from Best Buy, I have never written a review, but this shaver has impressed me so much, I am taking the time to write this. If you are looking for something better than the 3 round blade system, you can not go wrong trying something new with this shaver.

This is a great product. I haven't used an electric razor before, and was a little skeptical about the price, but I am glad I bought it. It works great and stays clean. Its very easy to use and does not burn.

Great electric shaver. Good quality. I was expecting maybe a little more metal than plastic with the price of the shaver, but that doesn't mean it's not great quality. Super light easy to hold in different positions. Shaves extremely close. There's a ton of real estate on the head itself so its tricky to get in tight corners. Trimmer on the backside cuts closer to the skin than any of my other trimmers so thats plus. I drive shave with this and have zero problems with shaver burns or break outs. The cleaning station works very well and helps keep the head oiled. I like that it has a fan in the station that dries the head after auto-cleaning. Has a really good battery. The heads are super expensive so take care of it and keep it clean.

First off, let me start off by saying that I have used all kinds of electrical shavers over the years. I have extremely sensitive skin, and all of them always irritated my skin no matter what I did. Eventually I stopped using electric shavers and went back to a traditional shaver, which we all know takes much longer.
So, fast forward a few years and I decided I wanted to try one again. I read the reviews of this one and decided I would give it a shot. The design is great, its not too heavy but has enough weight to give you good control of it. The LED display does a great job indicating the charge level and to let you know when you should clean it.
Now, lets get into how it shaves. I absolutely love it, I do not shave every single day, but I do use it about once every 3 days and this thing does a great job getting close to the skin, and I mean CLOSE. Sometimes I trim the hair down with a trimmer, but most of the time I just use some shaving cream and run this thing over it and it gets EVERYTHING. My wife has told me that she can not tell the difference between the shave this provides and the traditional razor as far as smoothness goes.
This thing cuts my shaving time down in half, and its amazing. I have pretty thick hair on my face in general, and over 3 days it grows in pretty good so for this to able to cut through it like nothing is exactly what I was looking for. There is NO IRRITATION and I have not had any issues with it at all. As I said I usually shave every 3 days, so I usually put it in the wash base after every two-three uses, so far I have washed it about 5 times and the wash cartridge still seems full so I am sure it will last at least 10-15 more times.

This is my 3rd Braun in my life and the best shaver I've owned. My last was a series 5 and I still like it but the batteries and screen needed replaced and it was a dozen years old so I upgraded (and fixed the old one for a spare to keep in my travel bag.) The new razor is smooth & quiet. I like the pop up trimmer on the old one better because on this one you have to turn it around in your hand to use it. Not a big deal. This one's a little pricey but for something you use every day, it's worth the investment. I'm still not a fan of running them through the cleaning cycle daily like it recommends, they like to sell supplies! I just run mine through a cycle every week or two and recap the fluid cartridge in between.

Great shaver, I really like the flip out part, gets close but leaves a little stubble like I like. The foil part is great and almost as close as a razor without the irritation

I purchased this as a replacement for a 5 year old Panasonic. The Braun Series 9 is quite a bit larger and the cleaning system takes up quite a bit of space but I find the overall results worth it. Although the shave is only marginally closer than the Panasonic, it's much quicker and quieter, cutting the shaving time in half. Also, the cleaning system, while a bit cumbersome due to it's size and requirement for refills, is easy to use and does an excellent job.
The Braun is a bit expensive at more than double the cost of a Panasonic similar to my old one, but over the long run I feel that it will be worth it.

I am a huge fan of the cleaning base. I like having super clean razor and I am to lazy to do it myself. I have sensitive face and the Braun razors are better than most. Obviously it should be good for what it costs. It did come with a nice travel case. One of the lower cost models probably would have been fine but I definitely wanted the a self cleaning base and this is what Bestbuy had in stock. The razor is easy to use I don't have any issues with the trimmer or head size.

I bought this for my husband for Christmas and he loves it. He has always used Norelco but the reviews on this one were great so I got him this nicer one. He has not complained about shaving one time since! He is not getting razor burn or having any trouble at all. He loves the self cleaning feature. It is a real hit in our house and a great shaver.

I have used electric razors since I started shaving which is over 40 years now. The Braun series 9 is by far the best razor I have ever used. For years I have used rotary razors from Norelco and was pretty pleased with the results. I recently had to replace the shaver head on my 9300 and the replacement head was not as good as the original, so I started shopping around for a new razor. After some research I decided to give the Braun series 9 a try. The razor exceeded my expectations and shaves much closer than any razor I have ever used. The closeness rivals that of a traditional razor and I even started to use it on my head which I now shave because of this razor. I have sensitive skin and this razor produced very little if any razor burn. Like I mentioned before, I have been using electric razors for a long time so maybe this had something to do with the comfort level. I do not have a thick beard but I can have a day or two of growth and this razor has no problems with it. I especially like using it in the shower with shaving cream which I feel makes the shave even closer and more comfortable than that of a dry shave. I didn't think I was going to like the cleaning station, but now I have used it, I really like it. I drop the razor in, the unit cleans and charges the razor for the next use. I have not had to replace the cleaning solution yet and it has been almost a month. All in all, great razor!

Flawed locking mechanism on the Series 9
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
After using the Braun Series 5 for many years I finally upgraded to the Series 9. Initially I liked the look and feel of the unit and it seemed quieter than the old one. The head is larger than the older Series 5, but after using it for a while I found that the larger head was more difficult to get into the contours and tight spots.
My biggest gripe about the Series 9 is the flawed locking mechanism. The Series 5 locking mechanism is rock solid, and keeps the head from moving at all when locked. My Series 9 still rotates with the slightest amount of force when it's supposed to be locked, and this gets very annoying when I'm trying to use the edge foils to shave close (the center cutters are only good for the long hairs).
I reported the flaw to Braun Service and they told me to send it in for repairs, which I did. When it came back almost 3 weeks later (slow service) the unit was in the same state as before, and possibly even weaker than before, and it smelled like it had been tested on a homeless person's beard. When I complained that the repairs were not successful, I got the following reply from Braun Service:
Hello,
The head on the series 9 does not lock 100% they will move if enough force is used, this is by design and is not a defect.
If it’s moving while shaving you are most likely using to much pressure, only a light touch is required to get a good shave.
Thank you,
Gary
Really Gary? Then why don't you say that in your advertising instead of using a PADLOCK icon to represent the lock feature. False advertising.
Needless to say I am very disappointed with the quality of the Series 9 shaver, now that I've been told by Braun that their flawed design is intentional, and I will not be able to lock the head for a close shave. Believe me, it takes very little pressure to get the head to move on my unit when it's supposed to be locked, and I cannot press hard enough to get a close shave without moving the head around. For now, I am using my old Series 5 instead of my brand new Series 9 shaver.
I may have to try to jam something between the head and the body of the shaver to try and lock it down so I can go back to using it again.

After years of shaving problems, happy to say problem solved! I was reluctant to try an electric shaver as I never thought it would give a close shave. I’ve tried everything, and for years have had razor burn, and adult acne no matter how hard I worked at avoiding it. As a last ditch effort, I decided to give this a try and all of these issues were solved to my surprise. I love that it is easy to maintain and easy to clean. For me, it works better on a dry face. I did try it in the shower and it irritated my face a little, but I probably over did it.

Over the years I’ve owned several Braun shaver’s, as well as a Norelco or two. They usually last me several years, and are usually move on from them after I get dissatisfied with the quality of the shave. I recently purchased this item along with the self cleaning base, it is a significant improvement over my Braun 5000 series
And my Norelco. Close clean shave, good cleaning system, good battery life.

I love this razor! I've been using a 3 head rotary head for years. I got tired of the head falling off when shaving under my jaw to my neck. I switched to this Braun and haven't been disappointed. It shaves CLOSER than my old electric razors, as close as a razor blade but without the nicks and cuts. Even when I haven't shaved for several days and whiskers are 1/8" - 1/4" long, it takes less minutes to get a close shave than my other electric razors with day old whiskers, and I haven't read Braun's emailed article [yet] on how to get a close, smooth shave. I like the integrated trimmer on the back of the handle. My last razors had a pop-on trimmer attachment after removing the head, and the latest one didn't have space for it in the traveling case! The chrome with a few black highlights looks sharp and classy. The charging & cleaning stand works well, though noisy during the cleaning cycle which might keep some awake or annoy if in the same room. It came with a nice, hard case. I have used this razor since the end of November '21.

I've owned 3 different Braun shavers over the years, as well as some from Panasonic and Norelco. The Brauns have always performed better, and lasted longer than the others that I have tried.
I've owned 500 and 700 series and they have been great. Decided to try the 9 series, as I wanted to see if it would shave more closely on my neck, and jawline. I was not disappointed. Closest shave I've ever had with an electric. No irritation, and I can shave much more quickly than with the 5 series that it replaced. Love that!
If you have not tried the cleaning system, you are really missing out. Keeps it feeling new for years! Plus, it just looks really nice to have a storage solution that sits on the counter and keeps it charged.
Only difference in the one pictured, and the one I received is the digital readout that shows the charge level. Picture shows a number, but mine has bars that show the level, instead of the number. No big deal to me.
Great razor, and I highly recommend it! Worth the money!
