***Not a film review*** I do not have a TV with HDR so the video quality does not appear much better than the 1080p blu-ray version. The Dolby Atmos sound program is very good.

A movie of this quality is definitely worth seeing in 4K HDR and with Dolby atmos sound. If you have the television or home theater set-up, definitely a great movie to check out.

Great movie with a great story and without any political correctness threaded throughout. That it is made for 4k Blue Ray DVD players simply makes it that much sweeter. :)

I have the Blu Ray version of this, and I really did not notice an improvement in picture quality. I do think the main reason is because Braveheart is mostly filmed in darker conditions with it being overcast most of the film. In the scenes where it was sunny you could notice a better picture than the Blu Ray. The sound was better on the 4K thanks to Dolby Atmos though.

I know that Mel Gibson isn’t exactly someone people want to talk about these days due to his past personal issues, but I have to admit that this film is a reminder of why he was one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. Not only doe he do a great job acting here, this is also his directorial debut and while “Braveheart” may be one of the most historically inaccurate films ever made, it is a great and epic work of fiction that happens to be very loosely based on a true story. In short, it’s still a lot of fun.

In the late 13th century, William Wallace returns to Scotland after living away from his homeland for many years. The king of Scotland has died without an heir and the king of England, a ruthless pagan known as Edward the Longshanks, has seized the throne. Wallace becomes the leader of a ramshackle yet courageous army determined to vanquish the greater English forces. At the historic battle of Stirling, Wallace leads his army to a stunning victory against the English. Knighted by the grateful Scottish nobles, Sir William Wallace extends the conflict south of the border and storms the city of York. King Edward I is astonished by the unexpected turn of events. Unable to rely on his ineffectual son Prince Edward, Longshanks sends his daughter-in-law Princess Isabelle to discuss a truce with Wallace...

Still the Greatest Movie Ever Made

I've watched Braveheart about 6 times. It really was the best movie I've ever seen. I know it's not the greatest movie of all time, but since it had such a profound effect on me when I was 16; I will always consider this to be the best film ever. I could have watched it more than the half dozen times, but I never wanted to ruin the effect it's had on me. Too much of a good thing and all that. There are directorial flaws and the accents are hit and miss (Mel Gibson mainly) but when this came to theatres in 1995; nothing had been done on this great a scale, this well. The music by James Horner is amazing! Boy, I miss that guy's talent. The battles are epic, the set design always made me feel like I was right there in the Highlands with them. The story is inspiring and gut-wrenching. It has the romance of some of the best, the action of some of the best, the bond of friendship of some of the best, the speeches of some of the best... it's got a lot going for it. I could go on, but basically - see for yourself. It earned the Best Picture of 1995 for good reason. So many movies have mimicked what it did well since then. They may have even done better with their material, but Braveheart did a lot of right and before most of them.

William Wallace, depicted by Mel Gibson, was a leader of a Scots' attempt at freedom from England. Saw his sword on a recent visit to Scotland and Mel is not tall enough :-). From the history I read there, the movie, while it does take artistic license at times, is fairly accurate in its portrayal of the time.
