For serious coffee lovers!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We've generally had "every-day" coffee makers in our home for years. From Mr Coffee to Keurig, they have done us well but it was time to try something new. We decided to try the Breville Barista Pro. This is a high-end serious coffee machine similar to what you would find in your local coffee house. The Breville grinds the beans to your desired grind, then produces an amazing cup of coffee, espresso or latte. Since this is a much more complex machine than the run-of-the-mill machines, we turned to YouTube to find videos that helped us set up the machine. The instruction manual is good, but the videos were extremely helpful for us to watch. There are video bloggers and video review sites which provide great content. After watching 2-3 of the videos we were ready to set up our new Breville Pro. We started with a plain cup of coffee. We found that the factory default settings produced an incredibly rich cup of coffee. There was a clear difference with our old machine. We then moved on to a cup of espresso and also found that to be a wonderful cup just with the factory default settings. Since we are dairy-free in our home, we tried using unsweetened almond milk to make a latte and again, the machine produced a great cup of latte on our first attempt. We have a lot to explore on the machine with different settings, different beans, grinds, flavors, but we can't wait to experiment. It's important to note that this machine required an additional level of cleaning and maintenance than a regular machine. There are many parts to clean and maintain as well as a drip basin that needs to be cleaned regularly. We feel like it is a worthwhile use of our time to get a quality level of coffee every day. This is certainly not a machine for everyone, but for those who take their coffee seriously and find themselves at home more these days due to global pandemics, this is a great investment for something you are going to enjoy every day!

Great value in an expensive field
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This will now be my fourth super automatic machine over the last 20 years. Yes, you're right, this is really not a super automatic as it doesn't tamp or provide an option for a regular cup of Joe. But for the sake of comparison, let's call it the "over $500 coffee machine category." My machines have ranged in price from $600 to $1000, so at $800 list, this sits squarely in the middle. But so far, this is easily the best value. Start with the appearance and construction - can't go wrong with stainless steel - for both durability & cleanliness. Then, it comes with the Breville Smart Grinder Pro built in, which on it's own goes for $199. 30 grind settings might sound like overkill, and it did to me till I watched the online setup & operation videos and learned something. There was a discussion about the loss of the pressure gauge from the previous model. But as it was explained to me, they substituted something better - a countdown timer. As I understand it, the optimal double shot of espresso should take 25 seconds to pull. Taking 20 seconds? Up the grind a notch or two. Taking 30? Set it a notch or two coarser till you hit the magic mark. Ok, so I miss my automatic tamper. But that was replaced with - a work of art. The heavyweight tamper provided looks good, feels nice in your hand, and, you actually don't even need to remove it from it's placeholder to use it. It's held with a magnetic catch, secure enough and well placed so that you can simply press up on it. Great design feature. How long do you wait for your machine to warm up? A minute? Two? How's three seconds sound? I mean, I don't know that I would've requested that as a design feature for my dream machine, but now that I have it, how will I ever do without it? Kinda like climate control & power windows in your car. Supposedly, the coils inside are gone, replaced with something called "Thermojet", which I suppose is similar in function to the instant hot water heaters for your home. My only qualm about the machine is the loss of a dedicated coffee maker. Or is it? For myself, I can do a cup of Americano, and not feel like I'm missing anything. It's the guests you have to do the explaining to. "It's just espresso, with hot water added!" And then you get the face. "Espresso, I'll be up all night!" Or maybe just not explain at all, put it in front of them and see if they notice the difference. I use, and have been for a long time, Indonesian Sumatra blend. Makes a great heavy wake-me-up cup of morning coffee, but is syrupy sweet enough to pull a good espresso from. It's a good option for a dual use machine, as an oily bean, they're generally not recommended for automatic grinders, but I've never had a problem with it. So far, very pleased with this unit; excellent coffee, and the kitchen counter wow factor has greatly improved over my prior plastic clad unit.

Very Nice
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Breville Barista Pro is quite a machine. It may frustrate beginners, but with a little practice, you will be making quality coffee and espresso in no time. This is a fairly large item for a counter. It looks impressive and appears to be very well made. The different pieces that come with it are well made and labeled for quick understanding. Everything is machined from quality steel. I have only one real complaint about the design. The water tank mounts on the rear, and you have to slide it in from above at a fairly high point to make it lock in. That's fine, unless you prefer to place the Barista Pro on a counter under any cabinets. Then, it becomes an unnecessary pain. Even with a rear mount, it's possible to design the water tank such that it can slide in from a side, which would be much less of a pain. Of course, cabinet clearance may interfere with filling the grinder, but that's not a huge deal and can be easily worked around (it was not actually an issue for me; just mentioning in case folks have a smaller space). My first attempt at using the Barista Pro was a disaster. I used the automatic setting to grind the bean for a double shot. Then, I inserted the portafilter until it seemed to lock in place under the dispenser. However, even though it was tight, it was not actually locked. I was soon faced with cleaning up a mess of wet coffee grounds that virtually exploded all over. Don't make that mistake! The handle for the portafilter should be rotated until it goes past a 90-degree angle to the front of the Barista Pro. However, that initial shock aside, this is a fun thing to use. You have a variety of filters. Note, there are different filters for pre-ground coffee vs coffee you grind with the Barista Pro. Each set also has 1-cup and 2-cup sizes. The parts are all very nice quality and have a pleasing heft to them. You have lots of control over the settings, from how finely you grind the beans to how hot the water is. You can really customize your cup to your liking. I should note the heat-up time is very quick. The frother is easy to control and well placed. The LED screen is easy to read and provides the information you need to understand the settings. Really, my only complaint is about the water tank placement. Otherwise, this is an excellent machine. I'm looking forward to a lot of great coffee!

Amazing machine and great service! Win-win!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We looked around a lot and did crazy amounts of research. We finally decided to get this espresso machine. The only downside was that we could not find the color we wanted. We happen to come across the exact version we won eight, bought it online, and had it home within an hour! Absolutely loved the machine. The Best Buy service was great also.

A great machine, once I figured it out
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Making espresso from bean to cup was a bit foreign to me. I have a great espresso machine that uses the pre-packaged cups, but constantly being walled in to one brand was becoming a nuisance. With this machine, I'm able to experiment a bit more with various brands and flavors to make great concoctions in my experiments. Because I'm a novice, it took a bit to get rolling. Wasted a few cups, but in little to no time, I'm pretty comfortable. I've been seeing that a major complaint with this model is the removal of the manual pressure gauge. Well, from my experience, what is here works really well, and you can't miss what you didn't have. Works great for me. I've never been a true volume coffee drinker, so the personal servings are my highlight. Simple, yes, but it's the little things. All the components work great. Grinder, frother, etc. No issues to note. I't also faster and quieter than my other machines. Speaking of which, with this model, I can let go of both my espresso machine and coffee maker and open some counter space. While at it, I'll also save on the coffee visits. Great machine.

Coffee brewmeister in my own home
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve never owned a full-service espresso machine before, so I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. I own a Nepresso pod machine. It’s a one push button to brew the pod and another button to add the hot milk, then throw away the empty pod. Also, I’m not the biggest coffee drinker because coffee normally upsets my stomach. The Barista Pro is taking it to another level. Received the box and followed the instructions to prep for the first use. Once everything was put together, I still doubted myself of how to actually use and if I was doing everything correctly. So, I went to a little website called YouTube and watched a video. After watching the video, I had a better understanding of what I was doing and I believe I made a pretty good cup of coffee. I decided to purchase medium roast beans to test out the Barista Pro. I now have at least two cups of coffee a day using this machine because my stomach hasn’t been upset. In order to make the coffee “just right” to your taste, you will have to experiment with the settings. The coffee beans can be made to be adjusted as “coarse” or as “fine” as you like. There is also a timer for how long you want the beans to grind for. There are also multiple filters you can choose for the coffee blend. I’m still learning all the different types of ways to improve my coffee making. If you’re a serious coffee drinker, and enjoys homemade espressos, I do recommend the Barista Pro.

The Barista Pro is a WINNER!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve always wanted to have a coffee machine like this in my home. I love coffee shop drinks, but have been intimidated by trying to learn how to make espresso and caps at my home. Enter the Barista Pro! This machine is sleek, it’s a conversation piece in any kitchen for sure. It’s well built and easy to setup and just looks good on your counter. The instructions given from Breville were easy to understand and gave a step by step breakdown of everything you needed to do to prep the machine for first use. What I can appreciate about the Barista Pro is that it doesn’t just give you a K Cup instant coffee drink, you really have to learn how to make coffee like they do at your local shop. You have to fine tune the adjustments on the grind, the pour time and how the shot is infused temperature wise, and the instructions are clear on the extraction process and what you should really be looking for. But it’s a lot of fun sitting there trying to kind of fun tune your skills. Even as I write this review I don’t think I’ve totally gotten the process completely down yet, but that doesn’t bother me, because I think anyone buying this machine either knows what they’re doing or wants to learn. The milk steamer works great and it’s quite a lot of fun to try and get the right mixture down to make that perfect cap. I am thrilled with this Unit and look forward to having it in my kitchen for years to come.

Hated it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I spent five hours trying to dial-in and watching YouTube tutorials, it’s just plain messy and too much to adjust. Why even have a Hopper, when most of the tutorials instruct using a scale and single-dose. There should be more straightforward and easy to use.

Terrific!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Breville barista was packaged nicely and all of the extra pieces were labeled properly. The instructions were not very easy to follow - the porta filter was not labeled so it was hard to indicate where it should go. How to replace the filters within the porta filter was not clear and was not provided. The water filter is very large in the back of the machine so it will not need to be refilled often - yay. There are a ton of different options as far as grinding your coffee and the amount of espresso extracted. You are able to customize and save your preferred settings. The espresso produced was bold and strong. You can adjust your settings for a more bitter or smooth taste. The steamer is easy to use and the loop hole provided is convenient. The machine is rather large in size but it’s a 3 in 1 - grinder, espresso machine, and steamer. If you plan to use all 3 of these, it is the perfect match!

Great espresso easy to use -
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent value. Well designed layout with built-in high quality grinder. Comes complete with four different portafilters and tamping equipment. Excellent instructions with timer which is a great help with adjusting for best espresso shots. Well-designed hot water spigot does not require moving cup. Tested with lavazanna. Grand crema with excellent results. I have owned various super automatic machines and espresso is more authentic and you are able to use a better variety of beans than a super automatic. Also ability to adjust grind and amounts allows you to adjust for bean type and age. Excellent Italian espresso at home. Results are comparable too much more expensive machines with advantage of ease of use and ergonomics of the machine which decreases mess and cleanup as well as counter size.

Amazing product
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've always been impressed with Breville quality, and the Barista Pro does not disappoint. It looks amazing and it makes amazing coffee. The price? Pretty steep. But this is a professional machine. And in the long run, it pays for itself since you no longer need to pay exorbitant prices at coffee shops. It's like having your own little coffee cafe! If you don't like your neighbors, don't let the word get out. As mentioned, this is a professional machine. Though it's not difficult to use, read the directions first. Once you get things dialed in the way you like it, the Barista Pro will produce coffee that rivals the best coffee shops.

Makes great espresso fast!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great espresso maker! It has changed my morning routine and I don't think I can ever go back. I got this through the Best Buy Tech Insider to review and so far it has be great. It warms up fast. Brews quickly. And tastes great. It has been easy to setup and maintain as well. I am a first time espresso machine owner so there was a little bit of a learning curve and it took me a little while to get the grind just right, but this machine made it as easy as possible and if I can do it anyone can. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to bring espresso into their lives.

The ability to grind your own coffee beans, both steam and hot water is almost available at any given moment and built in LCD to simplify the learning curve of operating such a beautiful machine.
