We lost our old barista express to a power failure. I was worried about this new lcd thing… but it delivers better faster than my old one.

The Breville Barista Pro is a semi-high end 'Café Quality' coffee maker. Unpacking the machine was borderline 'fun', the way all the individual elements were packaged/labeled. Setting them all out, you are pretty much covered for any brewing scenario!
First thing you'll notice is the quality of the machine and all the metal components. They are well built and sturdy. However, in contrast, a couple of the plastic pieces don't inspire the greatest of confidence.
In setting up the machine, first off, you need to soak and prep the filter. No problem, same with pretty much any machine of this caliber. Once soaked and rinsed, clipped it into the filter holder, instructions suggested turning the grey dial for 2 months ahead to remind you to change the filter. This was my first issue with the plastic. Couldn't get it to move at all by hand, even though it 'should' rotate smoothly. Finally got it into position by forcing a towel through the loop to add some grip to my finger. Not a huge deal at all, but as step 2 in the instructions, it was a little infuriating (but doesn't affect how this machine works overall).
Time for coffee! Filled the grinder with some tasty Lavazza beans. The grinder, with removable hopper and automatic grind control, is superb! Works fantastically, you have a grind coarseness adjustment and time of grind. You push the basket 'into' the machine to turn on the grinder. It would be really nice if there was a little LED light that came on with the grinder motion. The backing to the grind area is black rubber/plastic and the grounds are dark brown, so it was tough to see how much grounds were in the basket. The tamper is nicely weighted and makes tamping down the grounds a breeze, and the included stainless steel trimmer levels off the basket nicely. The large capacity (68fl oz) water tank on the back means that you don't have to keep filling the machine up every time you use it. However, as noted at the beginning of the review, here again, the plastic for the handle on the water tank is quite flimsy and doesn't inspire confidence when the tank is full.
Inserting the basket with your grounds into the machine to brew your espresso is very tight. Once it's in there, it's not going anywhere for sure. The ThermoJet Heating system heats up in around 3 seconds, meaning your coffee is coming hot and fast! No hanging around for over a minute waiting for the system to heat up. Here you have almost instant espresso! There are 4 filter baskets included 2 regular and 2 dual walled, for one cup and two cup doses. We had some difficulty changing out the filters from the basket, no tool provided really helped with this (the Razor Precision Dose trimmer was closest, but didn't want to damage anything). Ended up using a towel and a screw driver to change out the baskets, as they are in there tight. Thankfully, it's not something we'll need to do often, but wanted to note it.
On to the steamer/dedicated hot water outlet. The multidirectional steam nozzle is incredibly handy and versatile. It's nice to be able to steam milk and move it around easily. I still have some work to do to get the silky micro-foam texture (as labeled on the box!), but overall, very satisfied with how the milk heated and foamed with this machine. Having a dedicated hot water outlet is a nice feature too if you want to just top up your coffee quickly with hot water.
Overall, I am very impressed with this machine, it has a great build quality with all of the metal components, the very first espresso out of the gate was superb, the grinder is very proficient, and the milk steamer is fantastic.

Being a hot tea and occasional coffee drinker, I thought "Why Not?" when the Barista Pro popped up. They are not kidding with this system - this is a serious tool and making a good cup of espresso takes time to figure out the right combinations of settings. Even then, a change in one component can turn it all upside down. In my experience, the main contributing factor is absolutely the grind; just as the grind for regular coffee can affect the outcome, here it can do so as well. This is a trial and error part of the overall process so, if you're looking at adding this to your caffeine-ingestion regimen, plan on investing the time needed to get this right.
The built-in grinder is fantastic and widely adjustable; I also like the ability to unlock and remove the hopper while beans are still in it, great for cleaning the burrs.
Like cable TV where having so many choices can become overwhelming, I've finally settled in with grind and time settings and can consistently make a pleasing cup now. It took time to dial it all in, tried several different bean choices and even a ground coffee trial [no thank you] but results are now predictable and repeatable.
4 different filters are included for single and double cups, whole bean or ground coffee. A milk cup as well as water filter and cleaning tools are included as well. I have used the steamer a single time and it's easy to dial in and use though cleaning takes some doing.
Plan on a 14" x 14" x 14" space for the unit plus space to store the accessories.
Not for the amateur, it has a single purpose, making the best espresso and in my book it does just that.

I cannot honestly believe how this machine showed up at my door. Coffee grounds in the grinder, water in the water tank, coffee all over the tray, unknown crusty material on the tray. The portafilter was missing. The components were all unpacked and randomly placed in the box. When paying this much for something that you expect to be brand new this was severely disappointing. I couldn’t even tell you how the machine operates because I couldn’t even use it nor would I have. Who knows how long the water was in the water tank/filter.

This review is for Best Buy. I purchased this machine as birthday gift for my husband. The moment we opened the package, we were shocked. We received an apparently USED machine! You can see wear out and it's messy everywhere! Certainly we are going to return it. I used to be big fun for online order from best buy. I'm not sure about it any more. It's waste of my time and energy.

Not only does the Barista Pro by Breville make a great coffee, it is also a very pretty accessory on my kitchen counter. Designed to grind the right amount of coffee (19-22 Grams) on demand for the perfect shot of espresso, this model’s ThermoJet heating system and its 3 second heat up time allows for a quick brewed fresh full-flavored coffee anytime that you have a minute. The precision and temperature infusion built into the system made it easy for me to make a good shot of espresso on my first try. Instant steam is interchangeable with the 3 second heat up and can be used to warm your cup or froth and micro-foam milk.
The Barista Pro comes in 4 model colors – stainless steel, sea salt, smoked hickory, and black truffle. It has a full LCD display that animates grinding and extracting progress. Grinding of beans, the temperature of the water, and the speed of the espresso pour can all be easily adjusted. My first cup almost came out perfect, but with a few minor adjustments the second and third cups came out even better. The porta filter comes with 4 different configurations. One for a single cup of whole bean grind and one for double cups, with an additional single and double for ground coffee.
Packaged with the Barista Pro is “The Razor” - a precision dose trimming tool, a 480 ml stainless steel milk jug, single and dual wall cups, filter baskets, a water filter, and a cleaning kit. The water tank holds 67 fl ozs of water and the bean hopper holds ½ lb of whole beans. This unit operates at 1680 watts on a 220-240 voltage. It is 13.78” wide and 16.14” deep and 16.14” high. It comes with a 2-Year Limited Product Warranty.
This is a quality product that is impressive. It delivers what it is supposed to do in a very efficient manner. It takes a fraction of the time to grind and brew with the Barista Pro than it does to grind and brew with my traditional drip coffee maker. I am looking forward to honing my micro foaming of milk and learning to make a variety of coffee desert drinks. I definitely recommend this product if you are looking for a good espresso maker, I hope that you will give this one a try.

Took me about 5 or 6 tries to get the grind right, but afterwards it’s creamy, rich espresso in less than 2 minutes. Easy to use system. My only “issue” is the frothing wand. It doesn’t wipe free of milk when done. It just cooks on the wand and I have to put elbow grease in to get it off. Not sure why. Otherwise, this is a great machine. I’ve had a few espresso machines in my life and this one is definitely the best I’ve used.

After opening the box my first impression was that this was a very sturdy well-built espresso maker with a lot of well-built parts. I have used similar devices in the past and it is very noticeable where companies tend to cut costs on specific parts. It was not the case for this unit. Learning how to use the system is a bit challenging as there are many options such as customizing amount of time to grind, and time to pour a cup and requires a bit of time for tuning. Although it seemed challenging at first it gave me an ego boost once I was able to (without the reference of the instructions) create my own drink that fitted by taste. It was a pretty cool feeling. From a parts standpoint the metal filters that are provided are pretty difficult to remove and clean or switch out to a double shot filter and although I had a hard time at first it eventually got easier as time went on. Small learning curve. The milk steam wand to make lattes works really well and is easy to use and requires next to no knowledge of how the optimal steaming process goes. All in all, the machine makes awesome espressos and other coffee drinks with next to no hiccups in the process and even though some drinks require a little more work it is still rewarding to create my own and save a couple of bucks compared to buying from a overpriced coffee shop.

I absolutely love this coffee maker. I experimented with many different grinds and fusion before I realized that the 11 grind and the 13 fusion was perfect. The coffee is terrific and the coffee maker is really easy. And the coffee is ready right away. The person at Best Buy who had owned his own coffee shop and recommended this and he was right. Finally, when I called breville for help, they were amazing. A great product and great company.

Love it. The grinder is easy to adjust, the steamer pre-warm up in seconds. Easy to select 1 or 2 cups. Prepare fresh grind coffee within 2~3 minutes. Cleanup is easy. The taste is consistent.
I prefer this than fully automated machine, it's fun to smell and taste how much difference with any changed manual factors.
Note: there're knocking sounds while steaming the milk, don't be surprised, this is how it works to pre-warm quickly.

Excellent machine. I used to be a die-hard Nespresso user for, minimally, the last 10 years. One of my friends made me an espresso using a Breville machine and realized the quality of espresso is SIGNIFICANTLY better so I opted to buy one myself. It's really simple to set up and operation is relatively easy. I would recommend watching a few YouTube videos if you aren't familiar with the nitty gritty elements like grind size, temperatures, and whatnot. There are some places for improvement but they're not deal-breakers- (1) the outlet of the grinder can get slightly messy given that the machine is set up to collect grounds directly into the portafilter (2) the portafilter has a double spout, which is kind of annoying for making single shots- I would recommend purchasing a bottomless portafilter (3) I wish the machine came with a temperature probe for measuring milk temperature during the steaming process. The water heats up lickety split and operation in the mornings can easily be performed by an uncaffeinated zombie.

We love this machine, we are espresso lovers and it makes great espressos. We tried the barista pro before but the temperature wasn’t hot enough for an espresso shot, I tried different ways to get my espressos to the right temperature but not even close. We even tried a second barista pro but it has the same temperature problem. So we decided to try a third time, but this time, with the barista touch. It is more pricey but it was worth it, our espressos come at the right temperature without even adjusting the water temperature to the highest setting. It is a bit smaller than the barista pro so it saves a little more counter space. Overall we love it.

I was very apprehensive about spending this kind of money on an espresso machine but I'm glad I did. It makes a great cup of espresso and, of course, you can turn that into any other coffee drink with the integrated hot water spout and milk frother. Super easy to use and clean- I wish I didn't wait so long to purchase.

If your looking for a near professional grade espresso machine for home this would be a good choice. This machine is well designed for ease if you and also produces great espresso drinks. Of course there is a learning curve, but the useful concise instructions on how to adjust everything really got my espresso dialed in the way i liked it. Also, the steaming wand has many holes and heats up quickly. I used to have a Gaggia Classic and this machine is much faster overall and the espresso is really excellent. I love the screen and cleaning prompts. Lastly the grinder is excellent and has very fine adjustment ability. Really love this machine.
