Customers are positive about the Compact Wave Soft Close microwave's small size, quiet door, ease of use, and quiet operation. Many appreciate the soft-close door, the simple controls, and the efficient heating. A small number of customers mentioned the lack of a standalone timer as a drawback. Overall, the positive feedback on numerous features outweighs the limited negative comments.

Small, BUT NOT MIGHTY.

Small, but not that mighty. I only give it 1 star for the size and aesthetics of it not durability nor functionality.
I was really excited about this purchase I made in Feb 2022 but quickly realized that it's power wasn't that great. I stuck with it, but by Nov 2023, I was already calling Breville because this microwave started popping and smoking while I was reheating veggies.
When I called Breville, they knew exactly what part was popping and asked if it was black. They proceeded to explain they will send me replacement for blackened part so I can replace my own. They are confident that will work.
So disappointing that I paid $200 for a microwave to give out on me in under 2 years and it never really worked that that great.
Now I wait.

Really Great Little Microwave
|

Great little Microwave that does not eat up a lot of counter top real estate.
A full size dinner plate or a two quart microwave proof dish or a 9x9 dish all fit just fine into the lighted east to clean interior.
The exterior is beautiful and also easy to clean and will look good in any kitchen.
The easy close feature takes over as you get the door close to the microwave and finishes closing it for you, no worries about it closing when that is not what you are trying to do.
Its powerful. Water boiled in a one cup (8 oz) measuring cup in 1 minute and 43 seconds and popcorn pops faster than it did in my older microwave.
I did not use one of the two microwave preset sizes for the popcorn as one was too small and the other was too large, I just did it by listening to the popcorn pop as recommended by the popcorn manufacturers anyway.
It operates very quietly and when its not needed or desired you can silence the beep, which I feel is a very nice feature.
The pre set logic on this microwave is a bit different than what I had used before, but once you understand the train of thought it was designed with, it really is easy to operate.

Compact, Premium Design and Features

Pros:
* Very easy to use controls.
* Soft-touch door pulls itself closed.
* Matches all other Breville kitchen products for a clean look.
* Convenient shortcut buttons and features.
Cons:
* A tad too small - just barely fits my plates.
My Review:
Breville products consistently bring premium quality and design to your kitchen countertop. This compact microwave oven is no exception. Everything about it says “I may be small, but I’m not cheap.” The build quality is top-notch and the overall design is well thought-out from the controls to the way the door soft-closes.
The control panel buttons have a nice feel to them and are large, easy to read and easy to press when cooking. They are membrane keys which means that they are easy to clean with no gaps to collect food from dirty fingers. The rotary knob is an intuitive control for increasing or decreasing the time or quantities, although it would be a tad more intuitive to be able to press in on it to select items in menus, etc.
The display is very basic with just digits and a few words around the screen that are indicated by segments on the display when needed. Since this unit has a numbers-only screen, the “Food Menu” function has a printed key just to the left of the control panel that is only visible while the door is open. This is a convenient touch to compensate for a basic screen while still keeping the information handy and not cluttering up things with the door closed. There are large “Start” and “Stop” buttons and handy “Clock” and “Mute” shortcut buttons to set or change the clock and silence the beeps without having to dig into menus.
The actual microwaving part is exactly as you’d expect. This is not a huge and powerful unit, but gets the job done - especially for its size.
My only real concern with this “compact” microwave is that my standard-sized square plates just barely fit in it. A small unit like this will probably be used for reheating plates and drinks and making popcorn most of the time rather than cooking from scratch. Be sure to check that your plates and cups will fit in before choosing this smaller unit and if necessary, upgrade to their mid-size one instead. The interior opening dimensions are: 11.75” wide, 12” deep and 8” tall with a tad more room inside if you can get past the opening. For the record, my square plates are 10.75” x 10.75” but are 12.25” in diameter so while they fit through the opening, they barely have enough room to rotate during operation thanks to the slightly larger dimensions inside.
Provided the size meets your needs, you will not be disappointed in this compact microwave oven. The design, build quality and features definitely match its premium feel.

Disposable - No Serviceable Parts

Be advised that Breville designates these and other countertop appliances as non-serviceable and does not provide parts. Door latch broke on very lightly used unit and it's headed to the dumps. The latch isn't very robust and the soft-close feature most likely expedited it's demise... STAY AWAY from this and other Breville products unless you're ok with tossing money in the trash!

I have used this microwave for over a month and I love it!! If you are tired of the beeping and endless buttons to push, this is a great option. The return to a dial is everything! This makes my life so much better. I wanted a countertop that was small, but powerful and this fits the bill. Yes, its pricey, but so worth it. It's very quiet when it's on and having the option of sound or not is a huge plus! I like the handle instead of a push button and the self/quiet close is awesome! I considered the larger model, but so glad I chose this one.

High Quality and Solid Build

Not to small not to big just the right size. I'm impressed with the quality and solid build of this unit not cheap or thin metal like a lot of other brands. The 1350 watt rated makes it quick heating a lot of other brands this size only come in 700 watt rating. The soft close door is easy open and close especially for people with arthritic hands and it's very very quiet. The short cut features and control buttons make any cooking job very easy. The start button has a one touch automatic 30 second heat and the round dial turned left to decrease seconds or minutes and turn to the right to increase seconds or minutes easily.I can't say enough about the quality and features of this unit. It's a well thought out unit I think anyone will be very pleased with.

Confession...We have turned into a Breville family. And we love all the Breville products we own so much, that we purchased the Breville Compact Wave Soft Close Microwave for our son and his girlfriend for their move into their first apartment. They're thrilled and love that the size is perfect for their countertop. They're also extremely happy with the options menu for heating, reheating, defrosting, etc., can't believe how quiet it is, marvel at the soft close door, and are over the moon with how evenly it heats their food. Looks like the love of Breville products runs in the family!

A smaller microwave with large microwave features. Soft close allows you to use on hand to close and one hand to open. It doesn't move when you close it with one hand because it is a soft close. You can turn off the sound which is nice if you don't want to wake someone up or just find these noises annoying. The inside is large enough to fit anything I have always fit into my larger microwave. It has great shortcuts and presets for many items. very intuitive use and cooks food fast and evenly. I would say it cooks more evenly and faster than any microwave I have ever had. the quality is amazing and it is easy to clean. Beside it is very aesthetically pleasing. Make sure you measure the items in store because the dimensions online are the box measurements.

If you're looking for a smaller microwave than most that's big enough to handle pretty much anything you want to microwave the Breville Compact Wave Soft Close microwave. I like the look, the size, the controls, and the features. It's on the pricey side but I think you're getting a lot for the money in a small but very well thought out, package.
Design and Usability
This microwave looks great! I like the rounded handle, the round buttons that pop off the front just a little, and the dial. Not only does it look great but the large, very easy to use dial, and over sized start and stop buttons make things quick and simple too. Initially I was concerned about the practicality of having a dial to select cooking times. In actually, I think it's not only functional but I prefer it to the buttons. When I first used it I thought to myself, "this is great, I like it better than pushing number buttons". I thought it was just me and still wasn't sure others would use it. The first time my wife used it, without me saying anything or asking about it, she commented almost instantly about how much she liked the dial! So I guess it isn't just me. Why?! Well, not only did they calibrate the feel of it just right so it has a click-click-click feel as you turn it giving you the control you need while still turning easily, they also thought through the most efficient way to cycle through cooking times. When you first turn it it starts at 30 seconds. It goes in one second increments from 1 through 20 seconds, then fives from 20 seconds thorough 1 minute. It goes in tens from 1 minute to 3 minutes and then in thirty second increments from 3 minutes to 20 minutes. From 20 minutes to the max of 95 minutes it goes a minute at a time. It works really well and I think it lets you select any cooking time you'll probably every need with surprising ease.
Ease of use
It drives me nuts when I have to push a time cook button before I enter a cooking time. I like just entering (or in this case selecting with the dial) the time and pressing start. Thankfully that's how this works. Select the time you want and push the big start button with the green play/triangle on it. Stop it at any time by pushing the large stop button with the red stop/square on it. You can also set the power level by pushing the "power level" button and toggling through the 10 common percentage options.
Features
I had to add this just because I haven't seen a microwave that does this before other than a "minute plus" type thing. This does have a "plus 30 seconds" you can use if you want. What I hadn't seen before is that you can change the power level or the cook time while it's cooking. Just change the dial while it's cooking and you can adjust the cook time. Use the "power level" button to adjust that as well. There are different programs as you would expect for heating, re-heating, defrosting, popcorn, pizza, and more. The programs adjust the power level while heating to, hopefully, heat things evenly and just right. I almost forgot the soft close door. It works like drawers that you give a little push, they stop when they are nearly closed, and they retract slowly the rest of the way. It's pretty slick. It works most every time, not quite every time - only because sometimes I don't give it quite enough of a push. It does work well and I'd rather have it than not have it. There's no button to push to open it, if you were wondering.
Size
It's smaller than a lot of microwaves but still big enough for our largest microwave plates, 10.5" diameter which is about the exact same as the turn-table, to fit easily even with a splash cover on top. It may be too small for you, or possibly too big, but I think it's just right for us. I've attached a photo with a casserole that fits easily and a ruler so you can get an idea of the space this has.
Power
Keep in mind this is a 900 watt microwave. Some foods list "requirements" of higher power microwaves like 1000 or 1100 watts. I'd imaging that most of the time you can just increase the cook time a little. You should at least know going in that this could be an issue.
Overall, I like it and think it's a great microwave if the price, size, power, and features are a fit for you!

I purchased this brand that replaced our GE microwave that only lasted 11 months. We've had it 4 weeks, and I like it much better. The door is much quieter opening and shutting, and also easier to open and close. The look is also more sleek with the brushed finish, and it's a little smaller than our older one but has a more modern look. The controls are easier to use, as well as the buttons are easier to push. So far, I am very happy with Breville.

Sorry couldn't hold back. But it really is a nice microwave. Pretty quiet. Easy to use controls and the Dial is the Bomb. I also like the easy closing no slam door. Didn't feel like I had to relean how to use a Microwave like I did with the last one. Has great power heats and reheats quickly and not under powered like my last one, which broke after a year or so. The last ones controls just wore out, I think this one will be around a while.

The perfect compact microwave for my needs ( re-heating and defrosting) Roomy enough for a dinner plate and smaller casserole dishes. Very easy to use. The dial makes it simple to set time. Easy to read buttons. Simple function buttons. The soft close door and ability to turn off the buzzer is a big plus. Attractive and clean design. All of my Breville small appliances have been excellent.

GREAT little Microwave. We bought it to replace a 1,000 watt over the stove hood microwave to move to a full hood. It does a great job! Heats evenly the only difference is the small size. But since we rarely use it for large items it works out perfectly. the small size is also a blessing as it fits anywhere! The soft close is once compared to the loud push button opening of other small microwaves. Finally, the icing on the cake is the wonderful MUTE button that silences the beeping so those early-morning coffees and late-night snacks won't wake up the house.
