The smart cook function doesn’t cook foods until they are cooked. Potatoes and vegetables don’t cook through. On their previous model I could adjust the weight of the food and it would cook perfectly. I expected more from $350 microwave. If you want to adjust the time and power each time you use it buy the $80 microwave at Walmart.

    Stylish Microwave

I love this microwave. For those consumers, Breville is an Australian brand which upon researching, I found out has been around since the 1930's, known for the production of small appliances. A few things that I personally look for in a microwave oven is that it doesn't produce interference that makes my TV's pictures go bonkers. I have had microwaves in the past, that have played havoc with my TV's picture during use. I am glad to say, that I have a TV situated just on the other side of the wall where the microwave is in use, and yes no interference. Secondly, I look for a product that is quiet. This Breville product is super quite when in use. The third thing I look for a wattage equal to or greater than 1000 watts. Wattage of at least 1000, seems to work best when it comes to cooking, reheating and rewarming food. This product has lots of features, too numerous to get into and should please the most demanding consumer. Two features that are really neat are its Sensor IQ cook (and reheat) and the Quick Touch functions. The Sensor IQ effectively monitors cooked food during the heating process. The Quick Touch function will adjust the cooking power level and time so it helps cooking your food to desired results. That's pretty smart for a microwave. The finish of this microwave is stainless steel and it has a large LCD display. I have been slowly switching out my kitchen appliances to the fresh and modern look of stainless steel, which is always easy to wipe down and effortlessly keep clean. So far we have defrosted frozen chicken and hamburger meat which was handled easily by its 1250 watts of power. We have cooked TV dinners several times, and done a bit of reheating (pizza and a variety of leftover foods). Each and every time food was cooked or reheated to a great eating temperature. We tried heating water for coffee many, many times and the water was brought to a boil in no time. You should have more than enough wattage to handle your most demanding cooking repertoire. Very pleased with this appliance and you should be too. A word or two on the control buttons which operate the Smart Cook, Defrost and Reheat Buttons located on the right-hand slide of the microwave. These stainless steel buttons are deeply engraved with the name of its function and are difficult to read. It would have been better to highlight these buttons with black paint to allow for easier viewing. Another oddity, was that the time of day is not visible in a dark room. So unless you have the kitchen lights on, you can't see the time on the LCD. With so many delightful functions of this microwave, it seems odd that the time display is not illuminated for nighttime viewing. This Breville microwave is high on my recommended list. It cooks wonderfully, heats water to a boil in a snap and does a fabulous reheating job. Food was thoroughly cooked and or reheated perfectly. I hope you enjoy it as much as I am. Overall, a great product.

If you have ever thought that a microwave is just a microwave, let this Breville SmoothWave Microwave change your mind. This microwave is so much more than the pretty stainless appearing face as it sits there on your counter. It is so much more than the comfort and feel of a quality appliance. This Breville Microwave is your helping hand that is more than competent with any task you throw at it. Immediately after removing this product from the box, I was in awe of its simple yet stylish appearance. It is definitely a modern looking appliance that will add a touch of style to even an outdated kitchen. Once out of the box, there is minimal setup. Remove protective film, set in place, insert rotating plate, plug in. Done. After putting the turntable into the microwave, I went to shut the door to the microwave and was pleasantly surprised that the door is SOFT CLOSE! I love this feature. I love it with drawers in the kitchen as well and have been converting all my drawers to soft close. So although small, I greatly appreciate it. The very night that I put it in it was used extensively. And my favorite feature about this microwave...it essentially does the microwaving for you! Whether snacks, dishes for a family dinner, ramen noodles, it does not matter. Smart Cook, Start, and wait. Upon completion of its cooking cycle, your food is cooked evenly and at a temperature where you could eat it right out of the microwave. Reheating some leftovers? No problem! Smart Reheat, Start, and wait. Same amazing result. Not ready to eat it right this minute because the rest of your meal isnt ready yet? Use the keep warm feature to make sure that this dish is ready when the rest of your appliances finally catch up to the performance of this microwave. I have not found a feature of this microwave I do not like. Its stunning in appearance, jaw dropping in performance, and a HUGE upgrade from the appliance it replaced. Want a helping hand in the kitchen when you are preparing those family meals? Want a competent appliance that will give you results? Want to make people say "Wow" when they walk into your kitchen and see what is sitting on your counter and taste the work it has done? This Breville Microwave is the microwave for you!

    Takes microwaving to another level

This Breville Smooth Wave microwave replaces my 10 year old unit that worked faithfully. But I was intrigued by a ‘smart’ microwave, having no idea what that entailed. I was honestly surprised at the versatility of this oven. It comes with several cooking presets (including a bacon preset!). With my old oven, I always covered my food to prevent splatter. This caused a problem with the sensor detecting when the food was sufficiently warmed up, and resulted in my food being hot beyond immediate consumption, and the plate being heated to 2000 degrees kelvin. This Breville unit has Smart Reheat, so even though my food is covered, it is sufficiently heated with no cold spots, and the container isn’t blisteringly hot. The Smart Cook button takes the guesswork away, it will automatically choose the correct cooking temperature for the right amount of time. Press Smart cook, then select food type; select quantity or weight, and sit back and wait to eat. Awesome feature! The feature I find most useful is the Keep Warm button. After your food is finished cooking/reheating, the oven operates at a low power setting to keep your food warm until you remove it. I’m not good at timing my meals, and it seems I always start the microwave too soon, so my food gets done before my other cooking tasks are complete. For me, this feature alone makes this oven worth having. For the tasks that you perform frequently, you can save those settings as Favorites to save time and buttonstrokes This oven comes with a door handle. I miss the simple Open Door button that’s helpful when my hands are full. Also, this handle sticks out nearly two inches. The way my kitchen is set up, I’ve found myself bumping into the handle when walking out of my kitchen. The setting dials require an extra step that simply required a button press on most microwave ovens. You also have to open the oven door in order to access the preset buttons, which are inexplicably placed inside the oven, behind the door. This oven is very lightweight, and doesn’t feel as sturdy as other quality ovens. Overall, aside from the extra steps, button presses and dial turns, this oven delivers. It gives steady performance and is visually appealing. The only reason I didn’t give five stars is because of its very high price point. It’s a great device, just not worth so much money. Pros: - Keep Warm feature - Smart settings save time and guesswork - Over a dozen cooking presets - Cooking sensors aren’t affected by containers/coverings Cons: - High price point - Cumbersome handle - Cooking presets are inside the microwave door

The Smooth Wave By Breville I honestly cannot think of anything that I don’t like about the Smooth Wave microwave. It offers shortcut convenience while looking ‘rich’ in pretty much any kitchen. I cannot imagine that I am the only one that appreciates the aesthetics of machinery that we use daily. For those that share this appreciation, I think you will enjoy the design of the Smooth Wave. The gunmetal grey color makes the illuminated display seem sharp with its readout while not blindingly bright. Having an actual handle on the front door is a welcomed feature instead of pressing a panel that makes the door pop out. The Smooth Wave has a ‘soft close’ mechanic which means that it doesn’t make an echoing slam when you close the door. The Smooth Wave also sets itself apart from other microwaves with its sounds. Instead of standard beeps that most associate with microwaves, the Smooth Wave has pleasant chimes. But if you like the beeps then you have the option to use those familiar tones if you desire. But how does it perform? Well, it’s as if the people who designed this machine understands the ‘struggles’ that will sometimes present themselves with microwave cooking. For example; the A Bit More option. We’ve all experienced a dish/plate of food that just doesn’t quite cross the finishing line of being fully cooked. A Bit More provides a tad extra time. This provides itself as useful for those frozen mashed potatoes that always seem to be the stubborn item in frozen dinners. Or how about that 1 am snack attack where you’re craving the leftover spaghetti and meatballs but usually find that the center of the pasta isn’t exactly warm? That’s where A Bit More comes into play. Maybe you know exactly know how you like your regular microwave dishes to be cooked. For me, I like my breakfast oatmeal at that perfect balance where it’s not too watery but it’s also not a thick paste. Now I can select the Favorite setting and I’m good to go. Smart Cook is another cool feature that I look forward to using. Chicken, fish, meat are just a few selections that are on the dial. Turn the dial, select and press start. To make the cooking engagement even EASIER, the Smart Wave has shortcut buttons just inside of the door. Melt Chocolate, Melt Butter, Beverage, Pizza, and even a Bacon shortcut. All of these cooking presets perform accordingly! And let me tell you, I was really impressed with the bacon. I had tried microwave bacon in the past and I didn’t like it. However, the Smart Wave actually cooked the bacon and made it CRISPY and not weird stretchy bacon. Here’s another fun feature of the Smart Wave; Keep Warm. Again, I think we’ve all experienced a moment where you’ve prepped a dinner whether it’s for yourself or for someone else and suddenly something comes up where you can’t eat it immediately or the person you made it for is running late. Place the dish in the microwave (lightly covered) and press the Keep Warm option. It somehow keeps the dish warm without cooking it. I do have to disclose that the Keep Warm option doesn’t work well with toast. I had made myself eggs and toasted a piece of bread and had to use the Keep Warm because of a phone call I received. When I returned to my breakfast, the toast was rubbery. It’s not a deal-breaker by any means. So, if you’re looking for a microwave that sets itself apart from all the other microwaves then I honestly think that you will love the Smooth Wave. It’s stylish, smart and efficient.

The Breville Smooth Wave 1.2 cu. ft. stainless steel microwave oven is certainly one nice looking appliance. Just from looking at the control panel with its fancy display and multiple knobs and buttons I could tell the Smooth Wave is far more sophisticated than any microwave I’ve owned before. I jumped into playing with the controls prior to reading the manual to see just how intuitive this microwave is. While I could figure out basic operation I quickly felt the need to reference the manual. I’d advise it. You’re initially instructed to set the clock. This was easy enough. I then went on to familiarize myself with the various knobs ands buttons. I quickly like the display which is large bright and informative. The top knob is +30 instant start button which you use to adjust the cooking time and make other selections on the display. I would just use this knob if you wanted to use this microwave the old fashioned way and simply set a cook time and start the microwave on full power. Next to this knob is the A Bit More button which you select to instantly and conveniently add 20 seconds to your cooking time. This microwave however does so much more than just setting a time and hitting start. The Breville Smooth Wave has intelligent cooking features which you access by selecting the smart cook, smart defrost, and smart reheat buttons. When you push these buttons, various food types are displayed on the screen. You then select the food you’re cooking and then you use the power/amount knob to select the quantity or weight of the food. These smart settings then cook your food just right so as to take the guess work out of cooking by setting the time and power level automatically. I particularly like the idea of the smart reheat setting which automatically and properly reheat your leftovers. Breville uses what they call Sensor IQ which intelligently sets cooking power and time by detecting the amount of steam being released during the cooking process. I also really like the shortcut buttons which are revealed when you open the door. Here you find buttons to melt chocolate, soften butter, heat beverage, reheat pizza, and cook bacon. Here you also find the Favorite button where you can set a convenient shortcut button for a food you cook often. I cook steam in the bag frozen vegetables most days with dinner so I quickly setup the favorite shortcut to make this personal shortcut. Another great feature is the Keep Warm shortcut. When selected, the microwave will run for 20 minutes on a low power setting to keep food warm. I know this will come in handy when dinner is delayed for one reason or another. Those with children will also appreciate the child lock feature which locks all cooking functions. You activate and deactivate this by simply pressing the A Bit More button for 3 seconds. Upon cooking and reheating foods with the smart cook features I did find that having to tell the microwave the quantity or weight of the food I was cooking was a bit of an adjustment. I don’t really think in those terms when microwaving. When doing frozen veggies I was surprised that the setting asked for the number of cups. I would have thought it would ask for ounces. I found myself estimating these settings. It was also an adjustment to have a microwave set its own cooking time and power settings. I found myself second guessing these settings when I often doubted the Smooth Wave was right. The food came out great so the Smooth Wave smart cooking technology worked. Overall the Breville Smooth Wave is a high quality microwave oven with convenient advanced cooking features.
