This microwave is fantastic. When our microwave stopped working I was looking for something that would hold up for a long time. I almost dismissed this one right away thinking a microwave could never be worth that much money but with how great the reviews were I couldn't help but be curious. After doing research my husband and I have never been so excited about buying a microwave. We brought it home and were so happy to realize it really does work just as well as it promises. Perfectly reheated leftovers from pizza to soups. No more guessing when heating up frozen vegetable or breakfast sandwiches. This microwave is 100% worth the money. It works better than I ever thought a microwave would and it looks great too!

Not Your Cheap $50 Basic Unit

Who would have thunk you needed more than a cheap $50-ish microwave. Sure, that will certainly get the job done of heating your food for the time YOU put in, but why rely on yourself to guess how long it takes to heat up your food when you can take the guesswork out of the equation and let the microwave itself decide based up its smart detection technology. It is almost like self-driving a car where you tell it where you want to go and sit back and enjoy the ride.
In addition to the cooking smarts, you have lots of other bells and whistles on the unit, and of course the basics. The first thing you have to get used to is the dial for setting cook times when you time things yourself. You can't just punch in 3 minutes but must rotate the dial. Or you can also hit one of the specific buttons for heating pizza, melting butter, popping popcorn, or defrosting meat.
The oddest thing to get used to is the quiet closing of the microwave door. You get so used to that latching sound when you close the door that you miss it for a while and wonder if the door is actually closed. Along with the mute function, this allows you to use the microwave in the middle of the night without risk of waking someone up. There is also a couple of sounds to choose from if you do want notification and... volume control for those times when you want it extra loud.
Might just have to consider more Australian brands in the future as this one is a certain hit, especially those that have been around since the 1930s.

its a nice looking product; has some helpful features. BUT it seems to have a life of 15-18 months. my partner like it aesthetically, but i dont like the poir reliability/ life. seems electronic components exposed to ‘cooking temp’ heat cant stand the stress.

Simply put, the exactness is impeccable. You can heat up exactly what you want with optimal heating settings. This may scare older generations with how customizable it is so be wary if this is a gift to a grandparents.
1.2 cubic feet at this price is a bit on the higher end but you're paying for the technology that it comes with, and the capabilities it provides are no fluke.

Completely satisfied with this microwave. Easy to use. Multiple functions which are actually useful. The "Smart Cook" and "Smart Defrost" functions work well and have been very useful. Quieter than any microwave I have had.

Never successfully made a bag of popcorn. Major flaw. Basically a deal breaker for my partner but we forged on.
The sensor based reheating and cooking were excellent. Reheating a plate of leftovers just worked. Would've been nice to have a countdown but a little faith and the food was properly warm.
Bought this on sale in 12/2021. Spent $380 hoping an investment would make it last longer than our previous microwave's 6 year run. It just died - trips the circuit breaker and GFCI every time it heats up. Thirty months of service for a $400 appliance is a joke. Or maybe that's exactly what they want...

We loved this microwave with all its features and ease of use. Lots of programmed settings like the melting butter or the popcorn setting make it super quick and easy to use. Its also really attractive and easy to clean. Unfortunately, it stopped working just a month past the 2 year warranty and Breville was not very helpful. They offered 20% a nee microwave but why would i spend another $350 on an appliance that only lasts for 2 years? Very disappointed.

Smooth Wave is expensive, substantial machine - seemed well made as other Breville (1st Breville toaster oven was good well over a decade - 2nd still good approx. 4-5 yrs) BUT THIS Smooth Wave - at 2 yrs occasionally just went dead - electrician confirmed GFI outlet was perfect - after unplug-replug etc. it would finally power on - at 3 YEARS IT DIED AND STAYED DEAD!!! I confirmed Breville has no expectation this machine will work longer than 2 yrs. Simply put, the Smooth Wave is a bulky trash item that looks as good as the day that I overpaid for it.

We bought this microwave 12/21/2021 with the extended 2 year warraty protection through The Total Tech Plan and the unit died 1/3/2024. The unit was not as powerful as previous models we owned, the soft door closing stopped working months ago and it was the most money we ever spent on a microwave. And now we missed the warranty period by 12 days. Not worth the extra money we spent. Order Number:0536 034 8011 122121

Caught on fire

We bought this microwave in 2021 after being really impressed with our Breville countertop oven. It has done nothing but disappoint. It undercooks things like popcorn. It unevenly heats things like butter to where you cannot depend on a consistent time. The sensor cooking is not accurate at all.
Last year we started having problems with the door not wanting to close correctly. Finally got that adjusted because I was unwilling to throw in the towel with what we paid. Today however, it caught on fire while reheating a bowl of rice. It was on less than 30 seconds. The interior was clean. The bowl was microwave safe. I caught a light out of the corner of my eye and the whole interior was on fire.
I can whole-heartedly say after all of this that I would buy literally any other brand on earth besides Breville if you are looking for a new microwave.

Well I loved this microwave. It’s stylish and convenient. Bought it 1 year and a month ago. Today its heating mechanism went out and it’s erroring e06. The warranty ended 30 days ago. Awesome. My last microwave lasted 10 years. I don’t use it that often either. So I imagine it would have did sooner if I used it a lot weekly!
