After much fanfare and frustration, I purchased this little scanner from BestBuy. Previous failed attempts included two other scanners from HP and Epson that both claimed they scanned double-sided. Not. The. Case. So fun. Now, I'm not sure why these desktop scanners are so expensive--it's really quite ridiculous--you're a scanner, not a hovercraft--however, I cannot deny that this little dude does what it says it will, which after all my failed attempts with other scanners, I'm pretty happy about. Imagine that--a product that does what it says it does! That's a novelty. I needed this bad boy to scan digital copies of a will and court documents, that all-in-all, were over like 700 pages, double-sided. There was no way on this once-green-earth-but-now-slightly-brown-polluted-earth that I was scanning those suckers by hand. This scanner scans relatively quickly. I'd estimate about a second per double-sided page. When you're scanning around 700 pages, that does add up, but it's still a heck of a lot faster than doing it by hand. Also, important to note, it can only scan about 20 pages at a time, so a big downer was that I had to pre-count and sort through those 700+ pages and break it all down into little chunks of 20. That was a pain, however, the software that downloads onto your computer with this scanner allows you to add "more documents" onto the current ongoing scan. So-hallelujah! No devil Adobe Acrobat Pro needed! Woo! Woo! That free software is somehow way more user-friendly than anything Adobe can offer, and as a graphic designer, I am deeply intimate with all of Adobe's creative software. This Brother software is so much simpler, user-friendly, the UX/UI is easy enough a kid can figure it out, and it's free with the purchase. Another pro to this scanner is it's small and compact size. It can easily sit on top of a desk and not be in your way. Personally, I want my desk clear to spread my giant arms across while I chicken-peck on my keyboard, so I'm keeping it in it's box in a cupboard nearby. Overall, I'd rate this scanner a 4 out of 5. Docking a star for the fact that it can only scan up to 20 pages at a time.

I was looking for a small scanner. The size is perfect and easy to store anywhere in the office. It performs great and the scanning software makes it easy to use. It is the perfect scanner for those who need to scan multiple pages once in a while.

Good Scan Quality, Fast, No Computer Necessary, and no monthly cost. This is good little document scanner for converting paper records to digital PDFs. I like that I can plug a USB flash drive in the back and just scan away - straight into a PDF document - all without a computer connected. The quality of the scan is great for documents, but is okay for photos/graphics, but this isn't created for that work flow. The included software PaperPort is an older version, but still works if you want to use it. Either way you will not need to pay for a subscription fee to store your documents - because you are scanning the files to your computer (via the software) or a flash drive.

Excellent scanner for a home. Very small and compact with big features. Love that you can easily add pages to a scan and you can delete blank pages. Easy to set up and use. Very happy with it!

Very compact and portable scanner with fast scan speed. It is perfect for a home office or busy business person. Scanner handles a variety of documents and scans single and double sided documents in color or black & white. The 20 page capacity auto document feeder fits my needs for multi-page scanning. It is a HUGE upgrade from my previous flatbed scanner. I would recommend this scanner to my friends and family.

Just got this a few hours ago as an economical replacement for my old worn out and broken $$ Fujitsu. This ADS-1200 seems to work very well with my old existing Adobe Standard Acrobat XI PDF software package on my Windows 10 machine. If you have an Adobe PDF product that allows you to control a scanner you might not need to download the Brother software. I did NOT download the Brother iPrint&Scan software and so far so good. Open your Adobe product, see if it has a "Create" tab under the File. If it does, then go the the Brother site select "Custom" and only download the Brother ADS-1200 DRIVER. Open your Adobe PDF product, and follow the path under the File/Create/PDF from scanner and the ADS-1200 will show up. I selected the Twain (TW) option. Then there is a whole host of PDF scan options in the Adobe pull down to select resolution, append to an existing file, color mode, B&W, gray scale, scan single or dual side, run OCR, etc etc. All right there, you may have to play around with it a little to get your preferences set. The color scan is restricted to 600 x 600 dpi, as advertised, which is good enough for my purposes anyway. The color photos I scanned to PDF look great! If you do not want PDF files just use your Adobe "Save As" function to select the file type you want. Also the scanner will power up from your computer USB port, no need to even unwrap the power supply if that is how your going use it.

After reading all the mix reviews, I found the scanner to be fast and easy to learn. Love the double sided scanning function.

I love that the scanner is small enough not to take up so much room on my desk. The quality is really good. I have already recommended this to my sister.

It works and scans both sides, but you have to download the brother software to get it to work and its really picky about how you put the paper in. and if you put in more then 2 sheets your documents get mutilated. Try something else unless you really really can only afford this one

Love this little guy. Compact, quiet, and makes clear scans.

It's a great scanner and gets the job done, but it needs an obsolete micro usb 3.0 cable, which sucks. You can use a flashdrive to scan files onto though, which helps. It doesn't have Wi-Fi, a touch screen, or any other fancy features. But for a scanner it gets the job done. Although buying an all-in-one printer for $150 is a better value than this.
