Great printer for typical home use!

Many positives about this printer: (1.) fits on my bookshelf, (2.) prints on both sides of a page, (3.) ink/ print head doesn't dry up due to infrequent use, (4.)replacement cartridges don't cost a fortune, (5.) has a covered paper tray so paper doesn't sit out in the open and collect dust when not in use and then deposit the dust on the print head when in use, thus clogging the print head, (6.) you can simply flip down the door in the back of the unit to feed-in a single sheet of paper, (7.) has a model with a top auto-feeder tray to allow auto-feeding of multiple pages for making a copy of a multi-page document (although I did not opt for this model because it would have increased the height by about an inch), (8.) it's a net printer, (9.) 4 individual ink cartridges so you don't waste color ink when replacing a tri-color cartridge, and (10.) operates autonomously so hopefully it won't become completely obsolete just because the manufacturer doesn't want to update the software/driver for a new PC operating system. (This happened with my HP printer., and I will never buy another HP product because of it...) So glad I switched to Brother!!!

    Back to Basics Printer

    |
    Posted .

The last 2 printers I had were fancy, expensive All-In-Ones designed for photos. Each lasted just long enough to be off warranty. I wanted to get back to basics, avoid 6 expensive ink cartridges, & get a quality printer that would last longer than a year. The Brother MFC-J4310DW fits the bill perfectly. For printing on plain paper, coupons make for a good example... Colors are a bit muted, but the ink doesn't saturate the paper, with no wrinkling or coming through the other side. You can increase the amount of ink, but this is the default. Accuracy & sharpness are much better than the more expensive printers I had previously -- the bar codes on these work, where 2/3 of the time those from the photo printers did not. Text looks Very good, but that's a judgment call -- barcodes working at the supermarket is purely objective. Networking features are great, but setting it up was really a pain. Everything else [cells, tablets, media players etc.] worked with WPS, where you push a button on the device & on the router & they find each other. I had to enter the very long network password using the printer's touchscreen -- NOT fun. You're supposed to be able to add the printer to networked PCs with just a single right-click -- that only partly worked, so I ran the regular setup, winding up with an extra printer & fax that didn't work. Once I got beyond that stuff it's great -- I can even scan using my Android tablet. Finally, I love the ink cartridge set up - pop open a door on the front & there they are. That's something I really hadn't paid attention to when I looked at the Brother & bought it -- I mean, sticking in ink cartridges is not a big deal -- but I hadn't realized what a pain it was lifting up the top of my old printers until I put the new cartridges in. This is Great.

Good Printer for its Price & Size

    |
    Posted .

I bought this Brother printer to put in a small cabinet that is in my first floor family room and I use it as a convenient secondary nearby printer for my i-phone, tablet and laptop printing needs (my main printer is in the upstairs office - too lazy to climb stairs). The small footprint size is perfect and is the result of a Brother technology feature of how the paper loads and prints sideways. The paper cartridge holder does not stick out perpendicular to the printer like HP printers. I've had the printer for over a month now and have used the copy, scanner, and print functions and I am pleased with the quality of them all. I'm still on the starter ink cartridges and have run about 30 pages thru the printer so far - I've had only 2 paper jams and they were when I first set it up. The ink cartridges seem to be priced reasonably as compared to others. When this printer first starts up, before printing the first page, it is a bit louder than my older HP printer, however, it is far quieter when printing the succeeding pages. It's not a big deal for me - just thought I'd mention it. Also, Best Buy matched a price on the internet (without a hassle) for this model which made this a very compelling purchase.

    Great multi-purpose printer.

I've always used HP printers and was pleasantly surprised at how easy this was to set up and the speed of the printer. The key factor for me was that it will print 11 x 17 which I need for a newsletter that I publish as well as signs for a retail store we own. Added benefits included automatic duplexing (printing on both sides of a page). The scan and copy functions are also quite intuitive. The only thing that's not as easy to do is printing checks from a partial sheet of checks but otherwise works quite well. I haven't really checked out is its ink consumption. I have not done a lot of photos yet but appears to handle those well.

Great WiFi all in one printer

    |
    Posted .

I needed a wireless all in one Printer (printer / scanner/ copier / fax) to use at home primarily for documents. I looked at all the name brand ones before choosing this unit. Now a days it seems like all the quality printers are about equal, with the biggest difference being the cost of ink. Brother had the lowest cost for ink refills, and uses several different cartridges for color. So you only have to replace what is low, instead of a single (higher priced) cartridge like some other companies use. This particular model also has a small footprint, so it takes up less space. Along with being able to print from my laptop and iPhone, you can also connect directly to all the cloud storage services, and Facebook from the printer. The only issue that I've had is getting my laptop to work reliably with it, though I think it might be that I don't have the correct ports set. I also don't like that it automatically shuts of, and can't be remotely woken to print. Though this might be possible, and I just haven't figured out how to yet (yes I'm a guy and don't always read all the instructions). Overall though I am very happy with this machine.

We had an HP printer that seemed to need an ink cartridge every time we turned it on. It was a color printer with separate cartridges for each color. So far on the Brother we are still using the cartridges that came with it. As a bonus it takes less than 5 seconds from the time you turn it on until it is ready to print. The HP would take up to a minute to run through its start up procedure and the time between when you hit print until the document is ready, has also been greatly reduced.

    Overall good printer

I liked the price of this printer and that its a printer-scanner-fax. (though I haven't used the fax). I'm a writer, so I tend to print lots of text so its great for that. But the print quality for photos doesn't compare to my old hp photo smart printer. But my hp died in a little over a year so there was no way I was getting an hp again. Though maybe i"ll resurrect my old hp for printing photos. Disappointed I had to go online to download printer software & the instructions were not clear. Wish there was a maybe box for "would I recommend this to a friend. So I guess my answer is yes, but only if its not used for photos.

    Great for the Price

This is a great printer if you print at home on occasion. The printer was easy to setup, Wi-Fi was easy to setup, love that I'm able to print from a flash drive and scan to a flash drive, and convenient touchscreen to control printing and scanning. However, this is a budget printer, so it does feel a bit flimsy. But it looks good and great for in-home use, but is a bit cumbersome for those needing it for true home office use. Overall, good for students, good for occasional printing, but not for heavy duty use.

I needed something affordable not only for the item itself but the ongoing supplies needed. I like being able to purchase the ink cartridges for the individual colors. I also love being able to print via wireless from my phone, laptop & tablet. It was easy to setup for my laptop & to find the app for my phone from Google Play app store. I do wish it started up & connected quicker w/all of my devices. The printing speed isn't the fastest but considering the cost it's still a good value.

Good Wifi All in one and 11x17 printing

    |
    Posted .

I needed a new All-in-one printer for my home office. This one was a great price that included Wifi, and printing option for 11x17. The set up was easy and I printed from my iPad with no issues. The PC software was easy to install and easy to use. Other reviews said it was loud but I don't think it is any louder than any HP or Dell printers I owned. The only negatives are that the ink cartridges were half depleted when I installed them and the manual feed for the 11x17 paper is in the back.

After getting this set up, we almost returned it but finally got it to work with our Mac. Had to hard wire it instead of using wifi which would have been nice since we also have a Macbook Air. Mainly bought due to reputation & size which fit our desk.

We needed a new printer in a hurry because children had school papers to print out. This one was easy to set up. We are very happy with the quality of the print. This printer has fewer paper jams than our last one and is much quieter. So far we are very happy with how long the ink cartridges last,

Printer sits on a pull-out shelf in my computer cabinet for my PC, so this design is perfect. It has internal front-load paper tray and easy-access front-load ink cartridges. Print quality is satisfactory and fast at the "normal" setting and is better but slower at the "best" setting. I'm very satisfied with this purchase. Buyers should be invited to review again after twelve months of ownership.

    Great Price for Quality Product

I did a lot of research and found that this was by far the best deal for my money. I have been more than pleased with its quality, its features, and its output. The only thing I have had, and am still having, difficulty with is setting up wireless printing. Fortunately, I had the foresight to pick-up a USB cable when purchasing the printer since I had had the same issue with my previous printer. Overall, still very pleased with printer and would recommend to others.

I really like this all in one printer, the only thing I do not like about it is where you have to hook up your phone line to it,took me forever to find the hook up. I love that it does a self cleaning all on its own and it is a touch screen.
