Efficient, small home office or dorm foot print

This multifunction wireless printer has been designed for economical use, reducing its overall footprint in smaller workspaces; home-office, small office site, college dorm room. For this, unboxing of the printer is quick and easy. Once unboxed, install the latest printer software’s and drivers from the Brother website. Multiple printing options are available for page sizes and thickness types, double-sided (duplex) printing, scanning single and double via the document feeder or direct from the scan bed. The paper tray holds a nice amount of paper; 250 pages, roughly half a reem of paper to reduce the number of times having to fill the tray. Connectivity to this printer is offered via wireless, direct network cable, and USB to fit your office needs. Wireless connectivity uses the current industry standard of 2.5/5GHz connection options. The starter toner provided can go around 1.2K pages before having to replace the toner cartridge. From prior experience, these can be pushed a little longer based on the volume toner being used during printing; limited dark prints to mainly text prints. Cost for toner will be reduced over ink for inkjets as the this does not dry out and is there always waiting for use. The screen is not large like seen on most multifunction printers today, making it cumbersome to change settings or options on. There is an admin area to do that same remotely vice standing in front of the printer. There is a plenty of scanning resolution options as well as copying from the printer. Overall, printing is fast and appears to be efficient, as well as the length of time it takes to process the document/s sent to the printer for printing.

So if you're reading this obviously you're looking for a printer and most probably want to get their money's worth. Well look no further. So first off high yield printing, this definitely fits the bill. you get 36 Pages per minute, 50 sheet autoloader and with the included toner cartridge about 15,000 pages and they also make a high yield cartridge if you think you want the toner to last longer or if your doing some massive printing. Set up was a breeze and you can use the brother mobile app so you have printing aspect and settings covered with your phone and also you can print from your phone rite to the printer. You also have two options for hooking to the printer. You can do like i did with the dual band wireless or you can buy a Ethernet cable and print from that. Oh did i say it also does double sided printing,so no more printing one side then flipping the paper over for the other side. Nope now you just tell it in the settings its a double sided print and the printer does all the work for you. I could not be happier with this printer. I definitely got my money's' worth with it and it will be around a long time and it's a brother printer the granddaddy of printers they have been around forever. If your llooking for awesome quality, tons of printing power ease of setup and black and white printing here is the printer you need to buy.

I have owned several Brother printers over the years and they have all been good. This B&W Brother laser is to replace an older Laser (not Brother) that does not stay connected to the WIFI after it goes to sleep. I liked this model because of the ADF (automatic document feeder) and a much larger paper storage tray. This tray will hold 250 sheets of paper! And the automatic document feeder will hold up to 50 pages to either print or scan! Additionally, this printer will be used on a seasonal basis and because Ink Jet printers tend to try up without use, it was a no brainer to buy this Laser for my situation. The setup went pretty well with a hiccup. I first tried to set it up connected by cable to my desktop. Everything went Ok until it came to setting the Wi-Fi. My desktop does not connect to Wi-Fi, that could have been the problem. So, I unhooked the cable and started over using my phone at Setup.brother.com. Much better results and total success. Like several new printers, they ask you to sign up for their ready ship ink/toner supply (Refresh is Brothers system). Since this printer will get used on a seasonal basis during the year, I have no idea how many pages I will average a month. Therefore, I elected not to sign up for this service at this time. Your situation may be different, so one has to decide on their own how they want to look at that. For most printing, the printer will display within your printer selection box and you can print using the USB connection from the computer you are plugged into, or you can print wirelessly using Wi-Fi from your laptop or phone. Because this is a Wi-Fi printer, you DO NOT need any physical connection to the printer other than power if the device you are using is on the same Wi-Fi. The printer does support Apple Air Print from your Apple device with no additional software needed. The Brother Mobile Connect App works well if you want to scan a document using the flat bed, or the ADF feeder and have the scan come to your phone. There is also a setting allowing you to print back to your Brother Device at home, while you are away traveling (this is optional and does not have to be activated) The print quality is crisp, sharp, and bold. The speed is fast. Even from a sleep state, the printer will receive the page in 11 seconds and complete the first full printed page in 24 seconds. In addition, this printer is Energy Star rated. Controls on the printer are adequate to choose how many copies to make, lighten/darken, enlarge/reduce along with toner remaining and total copies printed to date etc. The display is small and not touchscreen, but it is backlighted and still adequate for general use. I personally like the simplicity of the screen and buttons. The included toner cartridge is only 700 pages (all manufactures seem to put a small cartridge in from the factory and I always question why?) Replacement toner cartridges are 1200 pagers or 3000 pages depending on which size you purchase. If you sign up for the Refresh program, you will not need to worry how many pages you get out of a cartridge since a new one will be sent before you run out. I would definitely recommend this printer for basic B&W printing, and copying. It’s fast and produces great results. The scanner included is also color capable as well as document feeder friendly. The Wi-Fi connects easily and stays connected. It’s an Energy Star device and it automatically goes into sleep mode when not being used. I find it a non-hassle printer that does a great job.

Decent Value Printer, B&W Printing Only

This is a simple, compact, all-in-one printer/copy/scanner that is best for a small office or someone that doesn’t need to print color photos or documents. It is black & white (greyscale) printing only but you can scan in color. There is no fax function. Setup was simple enough, especially if you’ve set up printers before. The printer comes with a Quick Start guide. The full guide is online. It does not come with a USB printer cable so you will need one if you would like to connect it directly to a computer. You can also connect to a local network via WiFi or Ethernet. I set up the WiFi. The setup software tried to detect the printer automatically but that didn’t work initially. I had to manually enter my network password into the printer first. Initially, there are quite a few pop-ups asking to join their toner subscription service called Refresh. However, after a day or two, I stopped seeing them. I’m personally not a fan of these types of monthly subscriptions. Toner is reasonably priced. This printer uses TN830 ($50 list) & TN830XL ($80.50) cartridges for 1,200 pages and 3,000 pages respectively. The best part of having a laser printer is the speed. Sheets print quickly. Resolution is good and, being a laser, you don’t need to wait for ink to dry. Scanning speed is good. The best feature of this inexpensive laser is duplex printing. I love being able to easily print 2 sided documents. I just wish the scanner also had duplex scanning but unfortunately, it can only scan one side at a time. Scanning speed is also good for what this printer is. The printer has a paper tray that can hold up to 250 sheets at a time. This is very good for a printer in this class. It also has a paper feed slot for feeding a single sheet at a time. I’ve used this to print on legal sized sheets. It works but it’s not the most convenient process. The slot doesn’t have any support for the paper so you need to hold the paper to make sure it feeds properly. It can only take one sheet at a time but this is fairly common on inexpensive printers. For what it is, this is a good printer for the money. It has limitations, being black and white only, but for the right use case, it is good value.

    All-around Small Business Powerhouse

Back Office Bully The Brother DCP-L2640DW is the B&W Laser printer I say is an all-around starter, who is dependable and shows up every day for me. Nothing flashy - all business. There are no bells and whistles or gimmicks, only a dependable printer that can play three positions in your office. The Copier, Scanner, and Printer are all replaced with Brother's DCP-L2640DW is ready for any office or home setting. This saves space and time moving between machines in any small business or home office printing in black and white. It offers high-quality, high-resolution scans, prints, and copies all from one machine. As usual, everything comes well packaged and secured, already assembled. Simply unpack, peel the various pieces of tape, install the drum and toner, plug it in, and power it on. There are a few options to get set up, and they are all fairly easy. You can use the Brother app, the printer buttons, or the driver package on a computer downloaded from the Brother website. I chose a laptop and downloaded the software package and connected it to my WiFi network for all to use. Wireless printing on the network is fast and there are no complaints. It is sized like a 3-in-1, weighing in at just over 25lbs. It stands 16.1"W x 12.5"H x 15.7"D, fitting perfectly on a file cabinet or desk. I love that it has an ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) which holds up to 50 pages and can scan documents up to Legal size. The paper tray holds up to 100 sheets of A4 paper size. This is speedy printing of letter paper. The 36pgs/min 1-sided printing is fast, and 2-sided printing is noticeably faster, too, 17pgs/min or 8 sheets/min. The printer prints REALLY quickly, around 8 seconds. Wireless Performance is excellent, with spooling taking minimal time. I would estimate that in less than 5 seconds of clicking print from my laptop or cellphone, the printer is already spooling and printing my document. This is better performance than what I have seen in the past, and I like it! Using the iPrint&Scan software, you can wirelessly scan or print without wires. There is an app for iOS and Android to extend functionality to mobile devices as well for more value. Useful Information ADF holds up to 50 sheets Toner is TN830XL Drum is DR830 Parts easily found at retail I needed a B&W toner, dual-sided printing/scanning, an ADF that scans up to Legal size, and wireless functionality to print and store scans in the cloud. This is more than enough of a printer for the office and I highly recommend it to everyone looking for a laser printer.

Decent Home Office MultiFcn Definitely Not Compact

The Brother DCP-L2640DW is a black and white laser printer and scanner. The box throws around the word "compact" but I don't buy it. Maybe compared to much higher capacity workplace machines with multiple paper trays, this is compact. But by comparison to a typical home office printer, this is huge. And with a 36ppm print speed, it's more in the home office realm though I'll concede having a 23.6ppm spec for making copies puts it in the running against printers where one could truly say this is a compact competitor. The printer is grey with black accents and looks decently rugged for office use. There's a single paper tray that takes about half a ream of paper, a feeder with adjustable width sliders, manual feed slot, and flatbed scanner. The feeder can take up to 50 sheets to print from or copy or scan and of course it prints normally from the larger paper tray. The manual feed is behind the rectangular cover on the front which is part of the cover that rotates down for installation of the toner cartridge. This is where you'd feed envelopes or other special media to print on. As the automatic feed tray on the top just rolls paper through the scanner area, this is only for automated scanning or copying. Setup is pretty straightforward. Install the toner then plug in power. You may also connect USB or ethernet though at this point, I'm 100% wireless over all my printers. The touchscreen is large enough to not be annoying when entering the Wi-Fi network password. The menu is pretty flat and easy to navigate, nothing that's deep into a menu that you'll be touching on a regular basis. Print and copy quality is pretty good and fast. I'm happy with the performance here. Scanning is where one starts to notice issues. Take the scanning tray. There's a large amount of glass, but a decent amount of it which isn't actually usable and there's no real molded guides that let you know where this is at a glance. It's not that much more work to line things up but it does mean if you're in a rush, you're more likely to forget/mess up placement and need to redo the scan at least once. The other thing is. . .there's no dedicated USB A port for a flash drive to scan files to. So if you're scanning, it must go over the network or via their mobile app. This might now be that big a deal for a printer that's used by a small number of people in a home office but is a bigger problem for a normal office environment which is what I'm thinking Brother is referencing when they talk about it being compact. The printer claims that the toner is good for 700 pages, so about every 3 fills of the paper tray. I did not test this though I can believe it. That being said, that feels like a small number for an office environment though for a home office, 700 seems reasonable. Overall, I think this is a decent printer for the home office user who is printing stuff pretty regularly. If your needs are lower volume with more of a mix of manual scanning, then I think the DCP-L2640DW may not be compact enough to be worthwhile. It will be bigger than most other things on your desk and you'd want to place it on a table by itself versus on a desk next to other devices or items.

This is my third Brother laser printer. I keep a color laser and my dad just got my black and white 3-in-1 because he found it easy to use. I got this one to replace the one he commandeered. There isn’t much to say about any Brother printer because it’s like a good referee: if it’s doing its job, you shouldn’t notice it. The actual printing is always crisp and clean and I’ve yet to have a paper jam in over a decade of Brother printer. The auto feeder when I’m trying to scan or upload or copy one or multiple pages is perfectly reliable. It does not get stuck or stuck in more pages than it’s supposed to. Everything just works and is ultra reliable. My favorite function is the Wi-Fi. I program a shortcut that anything I scan goes right into my Google Drive. Super useful. And then once it’s connected to my network, it just shows up as a printer in my iPhone, Mac, iPad. Being able to print anything from my notes to a webpage to tickets with a couple of clicks has been a life changer for me ever since I started doing it. The best part? Toner is cheaper than all of the other competitors and they don’t have lockout chips. I used to print with a grimace in the old days because I knew how expensive each page was. I would even try to reduce the black on the page so that I didn’t use up too much ink or toner. Printing is now second nature and I don’t hesitate to print anything, thanks Brother!

Great laser printer for scanning and printing docs

The Brother - DCP-L2640DW Wireless Black-and-White 3-in-1 Laser Printer is a good all in one printer that’s great for my office and personal needs. The printer has the ability to scan documents using the flatbed scanner. This is great for receipts that maybe wrinkled and can’t go through the sheet feeder, scanning photos you don’t want going through the sheet feeder, or scanning pages from a book or magazine. The scanner sheet feeder is great for scanning multiple pages quickly and easily. The print quality of the printer is great. It only prints in black and white, but the quality is good. The setup process wasn’t too difficult. When I opened the Brother MobileConnect app it was not able to locate the printer. I noticed the display on the printer was asking me if I would like to connect to my wireless LAN network. I was able to select my WiFi network and enter my password. It took a while to enter my password because I had to use the up and down buttons to scroll through each character and use the OK button to move the cursor to the next character. Once I had my password entered, it was able to connect to my WiFi network successfully. The app was then able to locate the printer on my mobile phone and connect and setup the printer. During the setup process on the mobile app, it got hung up on the screen saying it was looking to see if my printer had a firmware update. After minutes had passed with it staying on that same screen, I foreclosed the app on my phone then reopened the app. After the app reopened it proceeded to the last page and informed me that setup was successful. It was easy to setup the printer on my MacBook using Bonjour. Overall, this is a great printer for scanning and printing documents.

The Brother - DCP-L2640DW Wireless Black-and-White Refresh Subscription Eligible 3-in-1 Laser Printer is a fairly compact laser printer, somewhat bigger than most InkJet printers due to its duplex printing and ADF scanning capabilities. Setup is simple and can be done a number of ways, depending on the devices you’ll be printing from. You can download the iOS or Android App that you can use to print from your smartphone after you connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network or your wired network via the built-in Ethernet port. There is also a USB port for direct connectivity to your PC, but that would limit your printing from other devices on your network. The print speed is quite good for such an inexpensive laser printer, up to 36 pages per minute and it renders sharp, clear looking, deep black text and graphics. This Brother B&W printer comes with a toner cartridge pre-installed that will last over 1,000 pages and will not dry up if not used for extended periods of time like most InkJet printers do. If you print a lot and don’t want to worry about keeping track and purchasing replacement toner cartridges, you can sign-up for Brother’s Refresh subscription that will automatically mail you toner cartridges as needed. The paper tray can hold a commendable 250 sheets and the ADF tray can handle a stack of 50 pages. If you don’t need to print in-color and you’re on a tight budget, I would recommend this Brother laser printer over any InkJet printer or other more expensive laser printers that may have additional features you don’t need for solid printing, copying and scanning capabilities.

I've used Brother laser printers at work for years and they have been solid and dependable printers. This particular unit is very similar to one at work and navigating through the menu was also very familiar. Unfortunately another item is familiar - difficulty in actually getting this machine to connect to a computer following the directions provided. After 30 minutes of nothing happening other than trying different ways to get the machine to connect, I used my experience and just went to the Brother site and downloaded the software without trying to connect and then used a very tedious manual network installation entry (took 3 tries because the instruction sheet didn't tell you what to hit after entering the last password item). After just setting up the wifi manually and then using the software downloaded from brother's site (not the setup indicated in the provided instructions), I was able to locate the printer on wifi and installed the needed software with which I was familiar and all is good. I can testify that these laser printers can take lots of use - in the medical office I work, we print hundreds of receipts per week and I was honestly surprised the machines work as well as they do. I had though brother products were a grade below other printer companies, but that is truly not the case in the real world. I highly recommend this printer even given the foibles of following the instructions provided. Best bet, do the tedious manual entry for wifi on the printer itself - the usb attempt I made had a spinning wheel for over 15 minutes and nothing.

I have had quite a few Printers, and this one is great for basic use. I have had it a while and I haven’t even needed to change the ink yet and it’s been a few weeks. If there were any cons, I would say maybe it is just very large, so be prepared for that. it was easy to get it out of the Box but it is quite a bit of work, getting it out and getting all of the packaging off of it. That makes the most mess. When I connected it, it of course, comes with an accompanying app to download. When I went to my computer, I easily found it And connected it wirelessly. It was very much plug and play. For the cost and what it does, I would say it’s absolutely worth the buy but as with anything else the thing that’s gonna run up the price is the cost of ink and toner overtime. I have yet to experience any of that, but I hope it is not too pricey. Other than that, I would definitely say it’s worth the buy as the print job was very crisp and clear. There has been once where I needed to unplug the printer as I’m not sure what happened with the connection, but it wasn’t connecting. However, that was a one time thing and I have not had the problem since then, and I should add that you will have that issue with anything that is wireless at some point so all in all this does what it says it does.

I highly recommend getting this 3-1 printer because it only has one black ink drum and thats it. I had a color printer that couldnt work independently from the other color ink. I also love the app that comes on your smartphone/PC, easy set up, you can copy/print/scan. This laser printer feels very solid and sleek. If you are in the market, put up the $200 with the 4-year 34.99 Geek Squad Protection Plan. Future-proof yourself you will never know when you need to copy/print/scan something.

I purchased this printer after reading the reviews of many printers. This one overall had some of the best reviews. I picked it up from the store November 1, 2024. So far this printer has worked fine with no issues. It took maybe an hour to get it out of the box, setup and working. I didn't have any issues downloading the app, setting up my computer to print with this printer. It seems to print quick. The print quality seems good. Overall I am satisfied with this printer. One good thing is this printer has a toner cartridge. It will last a long time compared to having to change inkjet cartridges out frequently and become costly. I don't need to print in color anyways.
