    Great printer for the cost

I really would like to give this printer a 4.5 star review. The setup was easy except for connecting to wireless. I have a one year old Linksys 77300 router. I followed the directions but the printer would not connect to the WiFi after a couple of attempts. I rebooted the router as it suggested but it would not connect. The troubleshooting directions recommend that I enter my password manually on the printer if it will not connect automatically and it connected. Still the whole process of wireless connection to two computers took only about 30 minutes. The printer works great and prints very nicely. I no longer have to be aggravated with ink cartridges that dry out and will not print. This is the first time I have bought a Brother printer, used another brand before but thought I would try something different. Hope this is the last printer I will need for a long time. If you need a black print only printer, you should consider this one.

    Poor performing printer, worse support

Of course the printer couldn't connect to our wireless network automatically like the set up guide says, had to use a special USB cable that I had, but would have cost another $25 at BestBuy, and then enter the wireless network password manually. Printer worked OK, printing from computer and iPhone, scanner worked OK for that first night. Next day wouldn't AirPrint from iPhone. Did all the checks for network connectivity the online manual suggests, wouldn't work. Called Brother support, went through the menu of items with impatient broken English employee. He said the problem was with my phone, take it to Verizon.Thanked him for nothing, went to Brother support website again, tried the firmware update tool, like a YouTube video suggested, it said no firmware needed, and now I can AirPrint from my phone again. Erratic undependable performance, worthless support. I genuinely hate having to buy electronic products anymore. If BestBuy sold dependable products, instead of pushing the highest profit Vietnamese and Chinese made junk these manufacturers produce, it would be a welcome miracle.

Great price for features, super easy to set up.

I have a Mac. Very easy to install. Did not bother with the disc. Just manually entered ssid and password into printer. I then just added the printer via systems preferences, AirPrint sets up 30 seconds at the most. Both iPhones, iPads and other Macs on the network set up just as fast. There is one Windows 10 laptop also set up by AirPrint as ( just make sure that a Windows machine has iTunes on it. iTunes includes Bonjour/AirPrint drivers for Windows in the iTunes software. You can add a printer and it will just show up like it does on a Mac. From box to all of the machines and printing 15 minutes. It's pretty quite compared to inkjet Canon it replaced. It also boots much faster from sleep. So far I love it and am looking forward to saving money using toner instead of the ridiculous and expensive ink cartridges.

    EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY

Easy to set up (even though the instruction guide had pictures of another printer). Definitely very Mac/Apple friendly. All I did was connect the printer to Wifi by manually entering the password. Within minutes our MacBooks, iPhones and iPads were connected and able to print. Even I couldn't believe how easy it was. The only downside (if you can call it that) is the scanner. By default, it saves every scan as JPEG. You will have to manually convert docs to PDF. It operates much quicker than my previous printer (Canon Pixma MG 5500 Inkjet) and makes less noise. The big bonus is the provided starter toner that can print up to 700 pages. That is major savings for moderate home/office users. No more buying expensive inkjet cartridges every few weeks. Phew! Very happy with the product.

Just like family. Setup was a breeze. Even the test page printed double sided just to show off. Then, I tried airprint from my iPhone and it worked perfectly. This printer is just $30 more than the cheapest HP laser but this Brother has a scanner! I tested that too and it was perfect. This is great. Replaced an Epson inkjet because it promised I could print one more page when the inks were low and stole it when I really needed that one more print. Bye bye epson. Hello Brother. I had one for years and gave it to a college student and really missed it. Now it's back. Happy.

My HP LaserJet 2420 was becoming very old and crotchety (jamming when I printed more than five copies), so when it came time to get a new toner cartridge, I decided to get a new printer instead. I looked at HP models firs ( because I like how a new drum is built in to each new toner cartridge), then Canon, then Brother, and read reviews for all. I opted for the HL-L2390DW because of its wireless and two-sided printing capabilities. I love it! It's very fast, wakes up from sleep in a second, and the printing quality is very good. Although it was already on sale, BestBuy price-matched a discount from a different store, so the printer was only $99.

This is the second printer we have owned in this model and they have both been terrible. I will be returning this one, the print output has blank and missing areas on every single print. Also the output will easily smudge with a finger rubbed on the print on plain paper, not something that should happen with a laser printer. The printer driver is always glitchy, and good luck figuring out the on-board menus, particularly if you're just looking to throw a document on for a quick scan that you want to save to a folder on your computer.

Nice printer for the money (got it on sale). I haven't tried the scanner part yet though I'm pretty sure it will work nicely. I like that I can print via WIFI. Can't figure out why ApplePrint can't find the printer though - will have to dig further. The only part I don't like is the paper output area - the printouts are set back a bit so hard to tell if anything printed unless you look into the output area. It's a bit bulky but that's expected since it can scan and do auto-duplexing (which I haven't tried) so it needs some "heft" to do that stuff. Grab it on sale if you can - makes it an even better buy!

This printer prints great! Every time it prints something it shuts my computer down! Bought it Saturday afternoon. Messed with it all day Sunday. Taking it back Monday! I told the sales person I didn't want problems. Best Buy started giving me crap on the phone. The salesman showed me on computer then when we got to the register and rang it up. he had grabbed the wrong computer. That should have been a sign! But I bought it. I have the right USB ports. I'm old. I'm tired. I messed with it for hours. They are getting it back. I've read that they draw too much power from your wall outlet. Sales guy must be on commission!

Some High Yield Printers Just Plain Stink

You may waste 200 dollars or more, merely trying figure out if alternative cartridges work or not. And afterall, you'll find that high yield cartridges are NOT worth the squeeze. It's an utter waste of money, considering if you wish to print high volumes of paper for a 100 bucks a cartridge. Brother is becoming the next HP of scamming people out of superficial prestige of quality. Make sure you do your research if you plan on printing immensely high yields of text. DO. YOUR. RESEARCH. On the other hand, if you plan on only printing a little homework here there, lottidah, by all means you should be alright.

My old ink jet printer used up $50 worth of color cartridges even though I wasn't printing in color and I had to clean and align the heads every time I wanted a quality copy. So when this laser went on sale for less than $100 I jumped at the opportunity. The print quality is great and the set up was easy. It just prints in black and white, but it copies and scans and prints 2 sided. Just what I needed for choir music and HOA reports. If you don't need self-feeding features or large numbers of prints, this is a great buy. It does what it is advertised to do.

    Terrible printer for printing

    Dimbiodin

This printer has terrible wirelless connection. Every time I spend a lot of time to fix it plus it uses a lot of paper for nothing ( it prints wlan report everytime before printing an actual document and does not print what I need) The support does not know anything, looks like they just do not care. I definitely will not buy products from this company any more and will not recommend to do so anyone. And even more, this piece of crap begins to work at anytime and when it starts to work at night it does not give me to sleep. And believe me it is better to loose money you spent on it than have this one. I hate it .thank you

My rating would be more accurately 4.5. The only reason this printer didn't get a 5 star is that it was a little bit confusing to get the wi-fi and scanning set up. Not too bad though, I figure what should have taken 20 minutes took maybe an hour. Be sure to read the instructions thoroughly before beginning, not just while you are trying to do it. Works wonderfully and I can print from my iPhone which is the main reason I bought. For anyone who wonders there is no fax on this model just print, scan, and copy.

For the price, I didn't expect razor-sharp text, but it's still pretty good. The only problem is that I often get several small smudges at the top of the first page I print after a couple days of inactivity. The second and following pages will be fine, but if the document is important I have to re-print the first page. I don't know if this will go away after I replace the toner cartridge, or whether other examples of this printer will have the same issue. Other than that, the printer is fine.

I really like the fact that it prints in black ink only. It also makes copies that turn out legible. Also like using a cartridge instead of the small ink packs other brands use. It was very easy to load the cartridge. I save money not having to buy color ink, & do away with the mess they create. Have not used the wireless option yet....I am not savy on that technology, since I am of the age before computers. It has a tray to fit a lot of paper & prints fast.

I was tiring of continually buying expensive ink for my ink jet printer. A best buy employee told me that if i didn't care about printing in color to look at a printer with toner instead. I took his advice and bought the Brother printer. It has surpassed my expectations. It gives a high quality print at a much faster rate than my ink jet at a fraction of the cost. The toner lasts forever! if you do not need color printing, there is no doubt this printer is for you.

I replaced a HP all in one expensive printer that died after 1-2 years with this one. I have an old Brother (probably 10 years old) that is still chugging along so I decided to stay with Brother. It works great. A little louder and a little slower but very competent for my needs. A plus for me is it turns itself off (not just sleeps) when not in use. It was a great price. And prints from my iPhone as well as my computer. Also bought one for my daughter and she seems to be happy with it as well.

Decided to upgrade my old Brother printer to a one with a scanner. The setup was super easy, although you need a usb cable to set the wireless connection first; afterwards all my mobile devices connected in seconds. I can print from my phone, iPad, chromebook and PC from any room wirelessly!:) A big change after having a printer connected by a cable. Overall, I am very happy with the new printer and I love double sided printing as well.

I have the printer working, but haven't actually completed the setup for the scanner. I just haven't had time and needed the printer for a project asap. So did that first. So far the printer has worked flawlessly. Its great, I had an inkjet printer before and bought this one specifically because it was a laser, so the ink wouldn't dry up and waste my money on cartridges. It is black/white, for my purposes I am ok with the black/white, gray scale.

I purchases this printer as a replacement for our inkjet in the home office. The inkjet printer kept drying out from sitting so long with very little use. We decided to go with a laser printer to get around this issue. So far the print quality is good, the flexibility with AirPrint and Google Cloud Print is awesome, and knowing that we will only need to replace the toner when we actually use all of it is awesome.
