The printer's compact design is also a plus for many users. However, some customers point out the absence of a USB cable in the box, requiring a separate purchase. This lack of a basic cable is a recurring point of concern among users.

A printer without wifi or bluetooth in 2024!!!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, I didn't read the stats of the printer as closely as I should have. I assumed all printers these days, even the cheapest, have some form of networking. Even this printer's quickstart guide mentions network connecting. However, the quickstart is one sheet for a half dozen different printers. Once I got over that disappointment, I dug around my junk cables boxes for a usb-b printer cable (shocked I still have one!) and connected the printer to my desktop pc. Works as you'd expect a modest home business laser printer to work. Connects to windows, PC downloads the drivers, and it prints. Not a lot of bells and whistles due to the lack of network connection. Print quality is sharp, and the print settings available is definitely noteworthy. Feels like a quality product, however. Brother has always made decent home office products, and this is no exception. I would strongly recommend finding the model with the wifi/bluetooth/airplay built in over this bare bones model, just for simplicity of use. Otherwise it's a good printer.

An efficient yet affordable laser printer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Laser printers came about way before the advent of ink jet printers. I remembered the time the time you can print various fonts and graphs albeit in black and white way back in the day. Dot-matrix printers ruled then. And to beat, printing speed was up to par with photocopying machines. But it came at a cost. Mostly offices used laser printers. And home users were still left with dot-matrix printers. Then came inkjet printers which took over until today. So the question is “Are laser printers still relevant today?” The short answer is “yes”. And the Brother HL-2400D black and white laser printer is one such example. The Brother HL-2400D laser printer is generally an entry level laser printer suited to small office or home use requiring volume printing. As mentioned in the product description it a black and white printer. But it is safe to say most users just print text and not pictures. And as for graphs, black and white is still acceptable. It is a no frills printer with the size comparable to a shoe box for boots. And it is not an all-in-one printer but straightforward printer. And this particular printer is connected via USB cable. But quite unfortunately no USB cable is supplied. Seriously Brother? Luckily for me, I have an old USB cable lying around somewhere. And for those wishing for a wi-fi connection, there is a wi-fi model available with similar features. As for the printing features, this printer has as far as I know has a print rate of 32ppm which is three times the 10ppm of most inkjet printers. To add, the standard cartridge of this laser printer can print up to 1,200 pages. And if that is not enough for you and you still want to save money also, there is an XL version that can print up 3,000 pages. In either case, you won’t be switching cartridges as often as ink jet printers. So really, this is a no frills printer but does the job efficiently. I would definitely recommend this printer.

Nice budget printer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this Brother Laser Printer to use as a quick and dirty low-cost printer for run-of-the-mill print jobs and proofing before sending the job to a very expensive color laser printer for final output. Note that this printer does NOT have WiFi built in. It MUST be connected to a computer's USB port. Also note that a USB cable is NOT included in the box with the printer, so you will need to provide your own. The USB connection on the printer is a standard USB-B male connector I've been doing the computer thing for a long time and have a box full of assorted USB cables left over from old computer stuff so it was no problem finding an appropriate cable. Since I wanted to be able to access the printer from any computer on my network, I needed to to find a way to do that since this printer has no network connection options. Luckily, Windows has printer sharing built in, and I have a Windows computer on my network that is always on as a file and media server. So I just connected the Brother printer to that computer, Googled how to share a printer under Windows 10 - which was easy - and then added the printer to my other network computers. All in all it was easy and worked great. Until some time had passed and all the computers showed the Brother as offline... Turns out that the printer powers itself off after a long time of no use. Hmmm. Had to figure out how to keep it powered on all the time, with it "sleeping" when not in use instead of powering off. To disable the automatic power off, just power on the printer, then press the "Go" button quickly 4 times in a row. All the LEDs flash once, and that means auto power off is disabled and the printer will stay on and sleep as you would expect. Print quality is as good as any other laser printer for text. Graphics are fine, maybe a little washed out when compared to a more expensive printer. But for the money, it's way better than you'd expect.

Basic printer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very basic laser printer that only connects via USB 2.0 connection. I feel that in this day and age, it should be made very clear that there is no way to do wireless Wi-Fi printing, just with the cable. Not having Wi-Fi connectivity in 2024 is quite odd. I would much prefer to have the option of both. The printer cable is not even provided in the box, so I had to dig deep into my archives (junk drawer) to find one. This printer works nicely, it does duplex print on both sides. I much prefer that to one sided printing. The printer itself is pretty large for a laser printer these days. The dimensions are approximately 14”L x 14”D X 7.25”H. I have bought a few printers that are half the size of this one. The toner cartridge is also quite large. The toner cartridge consists of two parts, the toner cartridge and the drum. I’m not sure how long the drum unit lasts, but most likely you will eventually have to purchase another drum unit, which is another expense besides the toner cartridge. Overall it does the job, but I would prefer a laser printer that is more compact and connects via Wi-Fi with an option to connect with USB 2.0 connection if I need it.

If you have a Mac, don't buy.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This printer does not work with Apple computers! There are some weird work arounds, but with the 3 apple computers we have the best I could do was use an app which only allows printing of PDFs and photos (so no word documents, webpages, etc). I returned it.
