For an inexpensive laser printer, this device is sturdier and handles jobs better than expected. Setup is easy, the paper tray is ample for the device size, and prints are speedy and high quality. You're limited to black and white printing, but for office documents or school work this shouldn't be a deal breaker. The real issue is the extreme lack of connectivity options. You should only buy this printer if you expect to connect it to a desktop computer or stationary laptop, since this device only connects via USB directly to your computer. USB installation is easy, but setting this up brought back memories of setting up printers back in the 90s and early 00s. The printer is also a little too big and heavy to be portable, so the ideal setup here is a computer desk or table with a desktop tower or where you're regularly going to be docking a laptop. That said, there is some pretty good value here in terms of quality of prints. You get double-sided printing (duplex printing), solid build quality, and a pretty sizeable 250 sheet paper tray. In brief: Pros: great print and build quality for an inexpensive laser printer. Cons: can only connect to a *single* computer via USB. Cannot be shared over a network. If you're purchasing this for home office or dorm use, you won't be disappointed. Other prospective buyers might want to look at models that offer more robust connectivity options.

I have mixed feelings about this printer. On one hand it performs really well, but on the other it is limited. Let me explain… Setup is incredibly easy, and that is primarily due to the fact you are connecting via USB 2.0. So while you don’t have to mess with connecting it to your router, this means you are limited to a single computer connection at a time. This, to me, is the single most limiting feature. However, if this is the type of setup you are looking for - then this laser printer would be a decent choice. This is also not a multi-function printer with all the fee whiz print, scan, copy, fax functions of others. I’m not deducting points in my rating for this, as it is clearly advertised this way. Just be aware you are getting a printer and nothing extra. So what about the printing? Well, this is where the device shines. Printing is relatively fast, with an advertised 32ppm. I’ve found this to be mostly accurate, but it does depend on what you are printing. The print is clear and crisp with no bleeding or running, even with high ink areas. The shading is great and delivers very nice documents even with pictures, diagrams, etc. The cartridge is advertised to print approximately 700 pages. I have not printed near that volume so I cannot speak to the accuracy. The 250 sheet paper capacity works well for me, and is standard for this size and type of printer. It does also have the ability to print on things like envelopes and cards with the document feeder. This function is also quite good. If you are someone who is looking for a laser printer and you mostly print documents containing words with minimal graphics, this is certainly an option. If you don’t need the ability to wirelessly print from multiple computers or devices, and having the ability to scan or copy is not essential, then this is a great laser printer choice. Aside from USB 2.0 to a single device being the only connection option, I am quite happy with this printer. It has been reliable and continually produces quality prints.

The Brother - HL-L2400D Black-and-White Laser Printer is a great basic black-and-white laser printer for simple, cost-effective, quick printing. There are many great all-in-one printers available nowadays, but when all you need is a reliable black-and-white printer for everyday printing, you can’t go wrong with this Brother – HL-L2400D laser printer. When it comes to installation, it was pretty easy and straightforward. Since this printer only connects via a wired USB 2.0 connection, there is no need to worry about connecting this printer to your network or anything like that, although it should be noted that it does not come with the necessary USB cable. If you’re like me, you probably already have several of these USB 2.0 printer cables around so this hopefully won’t be an issue for most people. Per the “Quick Setup Guide”, all you have to do is remove the packing materials, install the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly, load paper in the paper tray, connect the power cord and USB cable to the printer and your PC, and then connect your computer to the printer by downloading and installing the Brother software. This is all very easy to do and I did not run into any problems during any of the setup process. Once setup, I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly it prints. One of the other great features of this printer is the automatic duplex printing feature. Rather than having to re-insert paper after printing on the front, this printer is able to print on both sides on its own which saves time and paper. The print quality is very nice, even when using the Toner Saver mode which can extend the life of your toner even further. These features make this printer very economical which is always a plus. Overall, the Brother - HL-L2400D Black-and-White Laser Printer is a high-quality, cost-effective laser printer and I highly recommend it!

The Brother HL-L2400D Black-and-White Laser Printer is a reliable and efficient monochrome printer that is well suited for the home office, personal use, or small business. One of its standout features is its 32-ppm fast-printing speed, producing sharp and clear black-and-white documents at an impressive rate. It’s low cost makes this a great option for those who just want to print in monochrome. The printer's duplex printing capability is a welcome addition, allowing users to save on paper costs by automatically printing on both sides. The paper handling is solid, with a decent input tray capacity that reduces the need for frequent refills. Setup is relatively straightforward, and the compact design makes it easy to fit into various office setups. The printer's durability and consistent performance make it a cost-effective choice for those primarily needing black-and-white prints without the extra frills of color printing. While it may lack some advanced features found in higher-end models (no Wi-Fi or networking), USB is the only way to connect to the printer, the Brother HL-L2400D excels in delivering a straightforward and reliable printing experience, making it a solid choice for users seeking a no-nonsense monochrome laser printer without the need for color or networking. The consumables consist of: TN 830 Toner for 1200 pages, TN 830XL Toner for 3000 pages and DR830 Drum kit for 15000 pages. Not sure on the prices of them but from the previous generation the regular toner was around $41 and the XL $81, the drum kit replacement seems to be around $27.

For a printer that is not wireless, it doesn't come with a USB cable. How much could that have cost Brother company to have included this? On the other hand, it seems to be a solidly made machine and it holds half a ream of paper which is usually more than other basic laser printer of this size. Doesn't take that much room on the desk but it isn't made to be shared since it has to be connected directly to the computer. I am sure you can share this if you connected to the server but I doubt anyone more than a couple of people would want to share a printer of this class as it is not made for that. Compared to another brand (nameless) the toner and the drum are separate accessories. The toner comes ine 2 "sizes." The standard (1,200 pages) and XL (3,000 pages) (be sure you buy the toner tn830 which is made to fit this machine, not the different one) – and of course the drum (dr830 at 15,000 pages) that lasts a lot longer. Setting up was not difficult – you have to go to the brother website and it basically download the same software (in my case, Microsoft Windows) here https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadtop.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=hll2400d_us_eu_as and here you can view and download the manual https://support.brother.com/g/s/id/htmldoc/printer/cv_hll2460dw/use/PDF/PDF.pdf as it doesn't come in the box. It prints fast enough and it does beautiful halftone (1,200 dot per inch) when I tried to print some (albeit black-and-white) photos. Works perfectly fine with stamp.com software to print my own postage – you would feed the envelope manually with the manual feed tray in the front. Right now this printer is on sale about $120 – and how many laser printers of this price can print duplex (both sides of the paper)? Answer: Very few. The paper tray on the bottom is unusually large for a printer this size. It holds up to 250 sheets (half a ream) which should last a while for most people. I only see a couple of companies that make generic toner for this printer but I'm sure it will not take a long time for many companies to come out with much less expensive toner (and drum, as well), so this printer could be used pretty much inexpensively if you use the third-party consumable. Without looking at it, I almost thought this printer was made by their competitor (nameless here). 2400d is hefty and feels a bit solid. I think it is good for a home office if you don't have to print that many pages per month (the standard toner last about 1,200 pages, and that is at five percent coverage of each page), otherwise an inkjet printer that you fill the inks that comes in bottle will be extremely cost effective to use over this particular printer. For a printer of this price, if it breaks after a couple years, I would simply throw away and buy a new one but while it is working, I do like it and would be very happy to have this on my desk for business printing.

I have been using the new Brother HL L2400d Laser Printer. As laser printers go, this is a very basic device. There is no scanner or fax to deal with, just a monochrome laser printer. No Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or Ethernet either. It only uses USB. You can print to it from Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chrome OS but not smartphones. The printer is however a nice, fast, hi-resolution, duplexing laser printer. It prints up to 32 pages per minute one sided. It will be slower if it has to flip the page to print on the other side. The printed pages are crisp and clear. The printer operates at up to 1200 x 1200 dpi. The printer includes a trial cartridge which should print about 700 pages. They offer several options when it comes to cartridges. They offer the TN830 which prints about 1500 pages, the TN830XL which prints about 3000 pages, a dual TN830XL package, and a TN830V (or Value). I have not seen any information on that cartridge yet. The printer has a 250 sheet input tray and a 100 sheet output bin. It also has a manual feed tray on the back. It can print on paper from 3 inches wide to 14 inches long. While Brother makes less expensive home laser printers, this printer has a higher print speed than these less expensive models. It would be real nice if this printer had more connectivity options, but they decided to cut down on the options to keep the price down. My only real issue with the printer is the cost of the toner. A TN830 cartridge from Brother sells for $49.99 (3.33 cents per page) while the TN830XL sells for $80.49 (2.27 cents per page). If you don't mind the price of the toner, this is a nice single user printer.

This printer hits most of the most important points you want in a BASIC laser printer. First, it is fast - faster than many other more expensive printers and this was a welcome surprise. The size is about as compact as I have ever seen in a laser printer and this is welcome as I have limited real-estate available to place one more printer. Pricing is super-competitive, but I have not looked at toner cartridge pricing to see the long term costs of operation. The specs are already posted so no need to repost here. That is the good news. Now for the other things I did not like. First and most importantly is the lack of Wi-Fi connectivity. In 2024, no Wi-Fi connectivity on a printer??? Brother, what are you thinking? How much more does it cost to include Wi-Fi? Another $10? Having a cable-only connection severely limits my use of this to one computer and in our household, that just does not work - period! And to add insult to injury, they don't include the cable!! Why???????? I did not expect it to have a scanner, so was not disappointed there. I read the instructions and the software was not easy to install and really does not add much anyway. If you are considering a basic laser printer and have to use it with more than one computer, go get another one - this one is not what you want. But if you want a basic laser printer that is fast and produces great printing and not concerned with lack of Wi-Fi connectivity, you will have a hard time finding a better one. Read the specs carefully before buying!

This is a very basic laser printer that only connects via USB 2.0 connection. I feel that in this day and age, it should be made very clear that there is no way to do wireless Wi-Fi printing, just with the cable. Not having Wi-Fi connectivity in 2024 is quite odd. I would much prefer to have the option of both. The printer cable is not even provided in the box, so I had to dig deep into my archives (junk drawer) to find one. This printer works nicely, it does duplex print on both sides. I much prefer that to one sided printing. The printer itself is pretty large for a laser printer these days. The dimensions are approximately 14”L x 14”D X 7.25”H. I have bought a few printers that are half the size of this one. The toner cartridge is also quite large. The toner cartridge consists of two parts, the toner cartridge and the drum. I’m not sure how long the drum unit lasts, but most likely you will eventually have to purchase another drum unit, which is another expense besides the toner cartridge. Overall it does the job, but I would prefer a laser printer that is more compact and connects via Wi-Fi with an option to connect with USB 2.0 connection if I need it.

Nice basic laser printer with great budget pricing. I can hardly believe that you can get a laser printer for such a low price. They used to be so much more expensive than other printers. This one is pretty basic which is to be expected for it's low price. It's not a color printer though you can print pictures in "monochrome" (shades of black and white and gray) which look decent. But not really made for photos. It's mainly for text but you can add nice letterheads, borders, etc. with the right software. Good print quality. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that more expensive printers have so if you want those you'll likely have to spend a bit more. No built in display or lots of inputs but good quality build and appears it will last for awhile. Also no wireless. I deducted a star since it doesn't include the usb cable needed to connect it so you'll have to come up with one to use it. Be sure to get the right one it's a usb a/b cable (has a squarish connector on one end). I already had a few from other hardware so not a deal breaker for me but you would think they would include the cable for a wired printer. Also the link in the quick install guide led me to software that didn't see the printer. It was pretty frustrating trying to get it to work which it never did. I finally tried printing without it and it worked fine though. I did finally find the software for this printer which does work but doesn't really add much yet. It is a new printer so hopefully the software will get better. I don't really print a lot which is why I wanted a laser printer. Inkjet printers seem to always get clogged print heads or the ink just dries up if you don't use them often. Yeah toner cartridges are more expensive than liquid ink but they seem to hold up a bit longer with fewer problems if you don't use them them that much. But good for frequent use as well.

I got this Brother Laser Printer to use as a quick and dirty low-cost printer for run-of-the-mill print jobs and proofing before sending the job to a very expensive color laser printer for final output. Note that this printer does NOT have WiFi built in. It MUST be connected to a computer's USB port. Also note that a USB cable is NOT included in the box with the printer, so you will need to provide your own. The USB connection on the printer is a standard USB-B male connector I've been doing the computer thing for a long time and have a box full of assorted USB cables left over from old computer stuff so it was no problem finding an appropriate cable. Since I wanted to be able to access the printer from any computer on my network, I needed to to find a way to do that since this printer has no network connection options. Luckily, Windows has printer sharing built in, and I have a Windows computer on my network that is always on as a file and media server. So I just connected the Brother printer to that computer, Googled how to share a printer under Windows 10 - which was easy - and then added the printer to my other network computers. All in all it was easy and worked great. Until some time had passed and all the computers showed the Brother as offline... Turns out that the printer powers itself off after a long time of no use. Hmmm. Had to figure out how to keep it powered on all the time, with it "sleeping" when not in use instead of powering off. To disable the automatic power off, just power on the printer, then press the "Go" button quickly 4 times in a row. All the LEDs flash once, and that means auto power off is disabled and the printer will stay on and sleep as you would expect. Print quality is as good as any other laser printer for text. Graphics are fine, maybe a little washed out when compared to a more expensive printer. But for the money, it's way better than you'd expect.

This is a very early review - will update as time goes on. Brother printers have excellent reputations for durability, as well as reliability, and what appears to be a never ending toner cartridge. All of these are big pluses, but will take time to confirm, and while my actual experience printing with this has been pleasant once it got going, there are some important things to know about the set up process that in many ways downgraded my experience. To begin, our household runs multiple computers using macOS, as well as iPadOS. It is very important to note that although this printer is advertised as having compatibility with Windows OS, macOS and Linux, it only made drivers available for Windows and Linux. Connecting this via USB (this is not the wireless version) to our M2 Pro Mac Mini resulted in identification of the printer, but not an ability to add any drivers for the printer out of the box. We are running the most recent version of macOS Sonoma. The printer comes with a number of quick start instructions that advertise a QR code to download an OS-specific app or drivers, depending on whether you're connecting your printer to your iPad Pro or to your Mac. However, neither of these two softwares, Brother Mobile Connect or EasyConnectSetup, will be able to download any additional support software for your printer on macOS or iPadOS. This feels like a huge oversight - why even have instructions in the box at all? I spent about a half hour tracking down drivers for a likely related, but not exactly appropriate, HL–L2300D printer. I wouldn't consider myself the most techy person anymore, but I'm not a novice. Considering how so much of the population is moving towards a paperless future and how we increasingly distribute media digitally, it is likely that the person purchasing this printer will have never owned one before, and having to spend so much time to try and find a driver for a printer that is not yours feels like a big miss. Someone who is not as experienced in searching for these things will quickly give up on the printer and return it. Going back to that same vein, considering that this is advertised as a wired printer that will only ever work via USB connection, it also seems like a big mistake to not include a USB A to B printer cable. All of us have USB-A, microUSB, and USB-C cables. But I would wager that relatively few of us have the specialized AB type cable that printers and fax machines use. After receiving this unit for review, I had to go out and purchase an additional cable for myself - there is no indication on the box that an additional USB cable is needed to be purchased to operate this printer. You only learn this when you're in the middle of setting it up! Another huge miss. Considering that the wireless version of this printer is compatible with the AirPrint protocol, and would be compatible with a large range of other iOS devices, as well as priced exactly the same, I would not recommend purchasing this version of the printer unless you absolutely depend on a wired connection for your work.

Brother in my honest opinion is one of the top printer manufacturers, for both at home use and for office use. This is my second Brother printer that I’ve owned. This review is for the Brother - HL-L2400D Black-and-White Laser Printer. There’s 4 components shipped with this printer, the printer, AC power cord, Toner cartridge & drum assembly, and the setup guides. Unfortunately there is no USB 2.0 cable included so if you don’t have one you will need to purchase one. This printer only connects via USB 2.0. The guide instructs you to go to setup.brother.com , don’t bother, just go to support.brother.com with your model #HL-L2400D and download the drivers from there. You will need to have your USB 2.0 connected when you do so. Setup is pretty quick and installation of the toner cartridge is pretty easy. Supposedly these cartridges will get you around 3000 pages. Time will tell. I’m not sure of the cost to replace one. Paper tray has a 250 page capacity which is really convenient. Black and white prints only, so if you want color, this printer is not what you’re looking for. Once I started printing it was noticeably quick, with no smudging on the pages. The one bummer I noticed is that it tends to curl up the paper as it pushes out of the printed copies on top. Maybe that will change with time? If you don’t mind paying for a USB 2.0 cable in addition to this, or you already have one, and you’re ok with black and white copies, you could do worse than this printer. After all it is still a Brother and they make quality printers. It reminds me of one of my first cars.... no power steering, and a manual transmission, but it runs great and get’s the job done well.

I have been a long-time user of another manufacturers laserjet printer for years and wanted to get another printer. After exhaustive research I discovered that the company that makes my current printer now requires their printers to always be connected to WiFi and requires a subscription to their toner replacement program for their printers to keep working. I was not interested in having to deal with these kinds of issues and wanted a simple USB connected printer for low usage personal use. I was delighted to discover that Brother still makes such a printer. The Brother HL-L2400D. The printer was very easy to set up. I downloaded the drivers from their website and was up and running in about 10 minutes. The printer has a very nice design. The paper tray slides out and holds a good amount of paper and closes flush with the front of the printer so you don’t see the paper as with the other company’s printer. The footprint ends up being about the same size but with a much cleaner look. There is also a single sheet feeder for envelopes or other paper options. A couple of excellent changes Brother has made to this new version is that the toner cartridge is now one piece and just slides into place. You no longer have 2 pieces that make up the toner cartridge. The other major change is that the printer now comes with a detachable power cord. Prior models were fixed. This made set up very easy as I just disconnected the power cord from my other printer and plugged it in to the new Brother printer. The printer uses a USB cable to connect to your PC however it does not come with one. I simply used the cable from my other printer. If this is your first printer you will need to be aware that you will need to buy a cable. The printer is about twice as fast as my previous printer at a claimed 32 pages per minute and is relatively quiet as laserjet printers go. The print quality is outstanding. The one thing I noticed is that the pages come out completely flat with not curling of the edges which my other printer sometimes did. I do not do a lot of printing so the toner should last a good while. The printer has the option for double sided printing which can be changed on the website and works well. The cost of replacement toner is in line with other manufacturers toner cost. I always suggest using OEM cartridges as I have friends that have used generic cartridges and ended up having problems with their printers. There are a series of lights on the top of the printer to alert you to when the toner is low, the drum needs replacing and when you need to add paper as well as a ready/status light. This is a simple and well-designed printer that performs exceptionally well and is an excellent value for the price. If you are like me and just need a simple easy to use printer and don’t need color or the cost associated with color printers this is a great option. I am so glad to see Brother offering a no frills, just get the job done printer. I would highly recommend this printer if your use case only requires black and white printing.

The Brother - HL-L2400D is a nice black and white printer. It a great basic printer. Makes very clear printed copies. Be prepared that this model is not wireless. I made some assumptions and was very disappointed to discover that it does not connect wirelessly. The instructions that come with it offer the QR code to download the app (if applicable). It was super disappointing to discover that it was not applicable for this specific model. I have not had a wireline printer in forever so it felt very unnatural, but that might not be an issue at all for a business that is using this in an office setting. The printer does not come with the cord so be prepared to pick up a USB cord before using it. It does include a power cord. It's not entirely clear to me why there would not be a USB cord for the printer when there's no other way to connect it. Overall, the printer is nice as an entry-level, black and white printer but I would suggest checking out other printers as you should be able to get a wireless model for close to the same price point and it's very worth it.

Laser printers came about way before the advent of ink jet printers. I remembered the time the time you can print various fonts and graphs albeit in black and white way back in the day. Dot-matrix printers ruled then. And to beat, printing speed was up to par with photocopying machines. But it came at a cost. Mostly offices used laser printers. And home users were still left with dot-matrix printers. Then came inkjet printers which took over until today. So the question is “Are laser printers still relevant today?” The short answer is “yes”. And the Brother HL-2400D black and white laser printer is one such example. The Brother HL-2400D laser printer is generally an entry level laser printer suited to small office or home use requiring volume printing. As mentioned in the product description it a black and white printer. But it is safe to say most users just print text and not pictures. And as for graphs, black and white is still acceptable. It is a no frills printer with the size comparable to a shoe box for boots. And it is not an all-in-one printer but straightforward printer. And this particular printer is connected via USB cable. But quite unfortunately no USB cable is supplied. Seriously Brother? Luckily for me, I have an old USB cable lying around somewhere. And for those wishing for a wi-fi connection, there is a wi-fi model available with similar features. As for the printing features, this printer has as far as I know has a print rate of 32ppm which is three times the 10ppm of most inkjet printers. To add, the standard cartridge of this laser printer can print up to 1,200 pages. And if that is not enough for you and you still want to save money also, there is an XL version that can print up 3,000 pages. In either case, you won’t be switching cartridges as often as ink jet printers. So really, this is a no frills printer but does the job efficiently. I would definitely recommend this printer.

This printer does not work with Apple computers! There are some weird work arounds, but with the 3 apple computers we have the best I could do was use an app which only allows printing of PDFs and photos (so no word documents, webpages, etc). I returned it.
