Excellent printer!

This is such a great printer and was very easy to set-up and connect to my computer and the internet. I used the cd to download the program onto my desktop and that didn't take long either. An update was needed so I updated the software and that was fast too. Overall it was probably about 30-45 min to take it out of the box and read the instructions (because I like to read through it first) and than start the set-up.
I love how much paper the paper tray can hold. On my other printers I've had to use a magazine holder to hold my extra paper, but now I can put most of it in the paper tray and store away the excess paper until the paper tray is empty. I love that. Less clutter around my desk.
I had to print a syllabus of about 57 pages and I was able to print it in less than 2 minutes. How fast and easy is that? The color ink and black ink comes out really nice on the paper. I don't know if I'm just being dramatic but it looks really good. I used the brother creative center app and was able to print birthday cards that come out really nice. I printed on card stock using both sides and the printer was still able to print quickly. For some of my other printers, printing on both sides always causes some sort of delay or it takes a lot longer to read and process it. Eventually I would just give up and manually print one side and than put the paper back into the tray to print on the other side. I also added a photo onto my card and the picture came out nice and very clear. Looks like a real photo print but on paper.
Scanning is also really easy and quickly loads to my computer. Copying is really easy too! Also, back to the paper tray, it can also take legal sized paper! How great is that. One last thing that I love about this printer is how quiet it is. The printer is in our room and our little one is in the room with us. I am so glad that I can print what I need without waking her up or startling her with that loud printer sound that most printers make when it first starts up to print something.

The HL-L3290 CDW is a fast all in one laser printer with double sided printing and scanning capabilities. It can be connected wirelessly to a network and also features Airprint. Paper sizes are flexible up to legal size.
Although the printer is heavy, setup was very easy connecting to my wireless network. I then printed about 100 pages, some text and some photos. Text came out crisp in all cases. Photos were good but not up to the quality of a photo printer.
In summary, I would highly recommend this all in one to anyone needing a high quality laser printer with great flexibility.

This unit is a beast

My first impression of the HL-L3290CDW was that it was heavy. The UPS driver was no slouch and he struggled to get it out of the truck and up to the door. As I struggled to get it inside, he opened and held the screen door for me. Not many delivery guys have the time to stick around to assist, but he did.
Once inside I proceeded to unbox the unit. It's wrapped in a thick plastic and that made it easier to slide out of the box on it's side. I turned it upright (no simple task) and got the plastic off. After finding a suitable spot to set up the unit, it was pretty easy...well almost.
I removed all the packing tape, opened the unit and as instructed, I removed all 4 toner cartridges. There's a throw away sheet below them so that got tossed. Then each cartridge has a throw away guard that needs to be removed. I kept the cartridges in order, but the slots are marked on the right hand side of each slot so the user knows which color goes where. As instructed I fired up the printer and set the settings. The display is rather small, but these old eyes could still read it easily. I set the language (English is the default) and the date/time. The time goes by gst, so know what your's is. I added paper and removed another throw away sheet from the tray. Finally it was time to install the printer.
I tried unsuccessfully to set up the printer wirelessly. The software just wouldn't show the printer on my network. After the fourth try, I remembered seeing that I could use a USB cable to set it up even for wireless. The cable just lets the software see the printer. The printer does not come with the cable and it states that on the box. I as many have a plethora of USB cables and found one for the printer. It uses the USB A to B printer cable (the one with the larger square male plug on one end). Using the cable the software found the printer on the first try. As I chose the wireless install, after clicking the listed printer I was given a pop up window that stated to remove the USB cable. Doing so the rest of the install was uneventful and everything worked.
I've only printed a couple of documents, but the speed and quality look very good to me. I have a basic Brother laser printer in black only and a nice HP black laser printer, but I've wanted a color laser printer for quite a while. I'm very happy to add this model to my collection. I imagine it will produce some quality reports for work and play.
Lastly, I like that it holds a 1/2 ream of paper, that it prints both sides automatically, and that high yield cartridges are available.

Print quality is not very good for a brand new unit out of the box.
Black and white copies have too much smearing and streaks
Unit operates much more slowly than the smaller Brother unit
it replaced. Produces too much heat for my liking. Was just
reminded why I don't like toner cartridge printers. Will be selling
it off soon.

I am printing a text document. There is no color anywhere in it. Brother printed half of the document, then stopped, saying I'm low on yellow toner. It's all text - it shouldn't be using any color toner. Now I can't print anything. As printers go, it has been ho-hum OK. Slow but steady. But this new development means Brother just lost a customer.

My husband warned me not to buy a brother printer. But after reading all the positive reviews, I decided to give it a try. I should of listened. After less than a few months and printing no more than 100 sheets, the ink began smearing all over the page. We followed Brothers online service guide on how to clean the drum and the pages are still smearing. To top it off, Covid is making it difficult to speak with a customer representative from Brother.

Disconnects ALL the time. It took over an hour just to scan 10 pages since it kept disconnecting from the wifi. Updated the firmware and no other device on the network was having issues except for this one. Also the image quality for colored pictures is terrible.
Also it lacks USB to scan documents to and a paper feeder. Black and white printing when it worked was good, but that's about it.

I was very excited to finally add a color laser printer to my home office. Brother products are always great quality devices and this one is no different.
It was heavy right out of the box so I could tell that the build quality was exceptional. It came with full toner cartridges and I had it set up in no time. There is the typical tape holding things together for shipping and the cartridges come with plastic protective supports as well.
This model does not have a fax machine or automatic feeder, but it still does almost everything that a home office needs. It provides for two-sided printouts, copies and scans.
The color printouts are beautiful and very clear. The copies are a very high quality as well, including color matching the original document.
Network connectivity was very easy to set up. Like most machines, it does not have a keyboard, so it is a bit slow to enter in the network password, but that is pretty normal for every wireless printer out there.
Laser printers take a little time to warm up due to the toner, but once it has warmed up, it prints very fast. The quality is better than my inkjet printers.
It is a fairly large device, so make sure that you have some room for it. As I had mentioned, this is heavier than most of my inkjet printers.
Setup was easy in Windows as well as my Mac and Samsung Galaxy Note 10+.
I will be using this as my default printer for quite some time.

Excellent Printer for the Home Office

When choosing a printer for your home business your primary concerns should be buying something that is durable, quiet, fast and has great image quality. To really understand what printer will work best for your home office needs you need to understand the difference between Inkjet and Laser printers. The primary thing you need to know is that the majority of home printers are inkjet and almost all business printers are Laser. Inkjet is cheaper and smaller yet louder and slower while Laser is more expensive and larger yet quieter and faster. in the case of the Brother HL-L3290CDW they figured out how to get you all the conveniences of a laser printer at a inkjet price.
Brother printers are some of the best and most durable I have used. With this one in particular they added a scanner table. This allows you to not only use it as a printer but also as a copy machine or one page scanner. Set up was fairly easy and once connected to the network, this printer was available to any workstation on my network. Printing was a dream. When they say you get 25 Pages per minute they mean it. All documents were very professional looking. Images were clear, text was crisp and the paper was smudge free. Copying and scanning was also super fast,.as long as you only need to do one page at a time.
Overall I am a fan of this printer and like the added value that is provided by the one page scanner.

The printer worked great for a couple of months, but after that, it was annoying to use. It works when it wants to. I have to erase the network and then re-connect it every time I want to print. And Brother was no help with the warranty and getting fixed or figuring out the issues. Definitely would not reccomend it.

Have had it since July 2020. We don't use it much, but thought a laserjet would be better as the ink on the inkjets always dry out before we use them. After just 174 pages, the prints come out wrinkled and distorted. And if it is turned on it smells like it is melting, not just a faint odor, but very pungent. Sad to say this was not a good purchase, at least I bought the protection plan, so I am boxing it up this afternoon to return and try a different brand.

The Brother HL Wireless Color All in one printer wasn’t super easy to set up right out of the box. The most difficult part of setting it up was making sure I removed all of the tape and plastic holding the pieces firmly in place during shipping. I have had wireless printers before - but none have been so easy to set-up and print from right from the box. I was able to print from my Apple iPhone within minutes. We currently have six devices hooked up to the printer and all can print very easily from our phones or laptops with no problems. I no longer have to be the tech support for my son or husband when it comes to printing.
The printer is very quiet. It prints 2 sided without any issues. The colors are nice and vibrant. It really isn’t that much larger than my Brother inkjet printer - but really is so much higher quality print.
The copy and scanner functions work flawlessly. I have not tried the fax function. Great product!

I thought this would be a great multifunctional laser printer, copier, scanner. Initially the setup was smooth but that is because I skipped the normally bad instructions. It installed with only a driver download and the output was crisp and leigible.
No jams and it was fast even when printing 2 sided. I found it frustrating to want to scan what I printed when it has just a flat top sos that takes away from the multifunction part. The reliable wireless connection stayed connected to my wireless network with ease and showed up immediately as a printer on my Ipad.
No jams so far. Just the main decision when comparing is if you need to scan a lot or prefer the space savings.

Great Laser Printer!

I’m enjoying this laser printer from Brother so far. Setup was easy. The only issue I had while setting it up was that if didn’t locate the printer in setup mode. When I clicked the gear icon in the app setup, it refreshed and was able to locate the printer. Using the printer from my phone using the Brother mobile app works great as well. Scanning is fast. Just wish it had a sheet feeder like some of the other models. Print quality is very good. I noticed there’s a chip on each cartridge. I hope Brother does not limit each cartridge to a certain amount of prints regardless if there’s still plenty of ink available. I had this issue with several other printers from Brother in the past. Only time will well.

Setup was fairly easy with a number of well documented steps for removing the myriad of blue shipping tape and then taking out each of the toner cartridges to remove the disposable plastic protective brackets from each one. Once all of the cartridges are put back in and powered on the rest of the process was smooth.
Networking is available only via Wi-Fi, there is not a physical ethernet port available so keep that in mind if the printer must be networked. Otherwise, network setup was easy and there were multiple options including WPS.
The LCD display, while having a limited display area is easy to use and the menu navigation and control is fairly descriptive and intuitive. I was pretty much able to navigate through all of the menus and figure out what most of the options did without having to refer to a manual. You can also change most settings from your computer via a web browser by navigating the printer’s IP address or NetBIOS name either of which can be found by printing out a network configuration report via the printers control panel. I did have to dig through the Online Users Guide to figure out what the default admin password was though.
I installed the printer drivers and additional software using the included CD. It will also check online and install the latest versions for you. There are options to install various software and utilities including iPrint & Scan and Control Center which seem to offer the same functionality with different interfaces. Not sure which is better at this point. Also included is an older version of Paperport document management software along with various printer management utilities. Most of the apps and utilities available are optional and you can install only what you want or need.
The paper tray is ample and very easy to open, remove, and adjust for various sizes. There also is a manual feed tray above the main tray for quick one-off size changes. If you need to print on envelopes, they are fed in from the front but then you have to open the back cover and push down on the gray levers according to the manual. I haven’t tried it yet but it seems a bit cumbersome.
I have printed on basic multi-purpose 20lb paper and heavier 24lb paper. Print quality was great on both. The first few pages that I printed were a little oddly curled as I think I had used some ink jet paper which the user’s guide explicitly says not to. Once I removed that paper and used copy paper all was fine.
Scanning is easy and the output quality is very good. You can initiate a scan from either the printer or your computer if you have installed the software. This model only has a flat-bed scanner and if you scan a lot you may want to invest in the 3710 which has an automatic document feeder.
