Great assistance with my purchase. Member highly competent and informative. All my questions were satisfactory answered. I am somewhat handicapped and was escorted to cashier to complete my purchase with a two year warranty. My rep. Also carried my printer to my car and put it in. Thanks to all.

My 5-year-old Epson all-in-one gave up on me after a power blip in my home. After researching to find another all-in-one and hoping to find one that provides low ink cost, this one came up with great reviews. Once I unboxed it at home setting it up was easy peasy and I was printing wirelessly from my computer and my phone right away. The quality is quite good. I've used scan to print, scan to file, print from phone and computer, I don't have a landline so haven't used the fax function. I'm pretty pumped to save $$ on ink!!

So, I have had this printer combo machine for nearly a year. I am still on the first set of ink. I have not printed a lot of pages, but a decent number, and a fair number of photo quality color prints for various purposes. The quality of the printing is very good--black and white is crisp and color is nice. Lower quality color prints can look banded, but selecting higher res works fine. The photo quality prints are very good if printed on good paper. Not as cost effective or quite as crisp as having prints made usually, but this is a great option in a pinch. I can do all sorts of crafty things with this printer (printing iron-on transfers for example, works well) and image collages, etc. and the quality has been good. Double sided printing is also GREAT, as it does not require any refeeding into the machine. The scanner is the life-saver in this machine for me, and the wireless feature makes it just so much nicer than any other scanner I've had. Getting the scan quality perfect can occasionally be tricky, or getting the right size can take a little work, but again, at this price point, you have a lot of bang for the buck. Scanning many sheets with the auto feeder also makes life easier. The only cons are: sometimes it takes a little longer than it should for printer to process what it's doing; I do sometimes have bad feeds though the normal drawer (especially when down to only a few sheets of paper); occasionally the printer has trouble finding a Mac on a wireless connection. There can also be a time-out issue, because the printer will turn itself off and miss commands to print. These are easy to fix problems. With a sale and the three-pack of ink, this is a hard to beat printer. The quality is good, the printer is ink-saving, and all the features work well.

This is a great multipurpose printer. The print quality is good. The fax, copier, scan and print functions all work well. I like how the ink cartridges work. They last a long time and are very cost effective. I was spending over $50 a month on my HP inkjet cartridges. I might spend $50 to $100 a year on the Brother Inkvestment cartridges (after I use the three sets included with this printer).

Purchased this for a corporate Christmas party to print portraits. Really impressed with the quality of the photos that the Brother MFC-J985DW prints off. Downside is that you have to use their software to get the good quality pics to print. You can't just hit print in Photoshop or Lightroom. Bonus: the printer comes with about 2 years worth of ink; just hoping it doesn't dry up.

Great reliable printer. No aggravating proprietary software that doesn't work right like with HPs I've had in the past. After a quick set up, this unit simply does what it's supposed to do. No issues with copying, printing, scanning (flatbed or multi feed) & scanning to the computer works quickly & easiliy, too. Great buy so far.

Low price, more economical ink, great print quality, easy to set up. This printer is great in every way. I now own one at each of my two homes. The version I bought included three years of ink at a reduced price. I can't say enough about this printer.

The printer works excellent. All the settings are easy to navigate with the touch screen. My only complaints are: 1) it was incredibly challenging connecting it to the wifi and i am very computer savy. The only work around was to constanly reset router and restart printer until it was successful. The disc, printer setup help, and the website was no help and even conflicted each others guidence in fixing the issue. This is why i took away a star in the review. 2) i wish there was an option on the printer itself to change darkness. You can do this for the scan/copy/fax but not the print. Not a big deal because you can adjust these in printer preference on computer. It would just be better in the printers options. Overall an excellent buy. Does incredible for the price and has an extremely large capacity ink that is also really cheap to replace. Cost per page is ALOT cheaper than any printer anywhere near its price range. That alone saves you time and money making it a great purchase choice. Most printers near this price you will be replacing ink every 125-250 pages and $25 or more per replacement. This one you get 2400 pages per replacement and its $25. That pays for itself in one ink cycle. The print itself is good quality. There is better out there in excellent quality but you will spend more to get it.

Hands down best printer I've ever owned. And it still works as well today as it did on day 1.
Every other printer I've owned would have experienced clogged heads and I would have also gone through several ink replacements costing more than the initial purchase by now. Not this.
Sure, there's room for improvement: 2-sided scanning would be nice, a bit faster print speed -- and software can be a bit clunky (at one point I just removed everything an reinstalled latest from Brother website which has worked best) -- so I understand some of the downgrades.
But if you look at other printer reviews, there's a lot of day 1 euphoria mixed with people ready to throw their machines in the garbage after some use. Unlike those, this brother machine is less about fanciest specs and more about quality -- which is what matters most!

Once set up this printer is easy to use whether it’s hardwired or you’re printing directly from your phone. It performs as expected from color, two sided docs to scanning and emailing docs back. No need for a fax machine

Good print quality and printer working fine with no problems whatsoever.
Purchased extra ink cartridges but yet to use. Ink seems to be lasting longer than expected. Normally would have changed my HP ink by now.

Recently purchased this printer, my first ever non-HP printer. Reasons for buying: Price, reported economical ink usage (haven't had it long enough to verify), all in one, size.
So far so good. I feel it prints a bit slower and some parts seem a bit flimsy. I did like that i could load paper easier with my old HP (Just sits in the bottoms vs. Now having to remove a tray) but these aren't reasons not to purchase.
Had never set up a fax before but sending faxes were simple (once I realized to use regular line in for VoIP). Printing from phone worked well too with the Brother app.
Time will tell, but so far so good.

As expected a solid Brother MFC. Pros: small foot space, accepts various sizes paper including legal, decent print speed, quiet operation, price and included 2 yr supply of ink! Best Buy made the deal better by price matching Amazon.
Cons: Brother printers are difficult wireless setup and this one was no exception. It’s not complex but the printer balks at responding to its setup instructions. Pack your patience.

I like the idea of not having to worry about ink for two years, but time will tell just how long it really holds out. Overall print quality is good, but I did have to max out the settings to get a good print on a document with images. Photo prints at best quality were vivid, and true to the original. Scanning feature worked well, and the included software was easy to use, offering a basic GUI as well as a more advanced option. Scanning and copying were noticeably faster that the Epson MFP it replaced. My only real concern is with the build quality on the combination paper tray. (Which BTW, Brother, if you're listening, two trays next time, please, so I don't have to take it out and adjust the tray feeder to do photos...) The tray seems rather light weight and the design of the slide-forward-to-print-photos is stiff and gives me concern for the longevity of the tray. Hopefully if you're careful, it will just be a matter of do it slowly and hope for the best. One other note of caution - photo printing at best quality is slow, and nowhere near what the specs state.

Bought this printer because of its compact size and its ability to print, copy and fax. Also is efficient with ink. You can set it in a lower ink mode. I can easily print from my computer and phone. I also can print on both sides of the page - saving money on ink and paper. I highly recommend this printer. My only problem with it is I still haven't figured out how to send a fax. Not sure why I can't get that function to work. It is probably me and not the printer as I struggle with technical things. ??

Bought this to replace another Brother printer that died after several years and a very long distance move. This one is awesome, set up in a snap plus the ink will last us a long long time. My only complaint is that the screen is on the front of the machine and if it is on a desk height table it is difficult to view there. We put it on top of a 4 drawer cabinet to solve that issue. I love the double sided printing and ease of all black print.

The brother printer is simple to set up and easy to use. Printed sheets are really clear even on draft setting. My first cartridges are still going strong after a multitude of wedding invitations. Really pleased with purchase.
