This multi-function printer has some nice features, such as two paper trays (with a 500-sheet capacity), a very fast print speed, good print quality, and two-sided, single-pass scanning. The Ethernet and phone jacks are INSIDE of the unit, not on the back panel (one has to lift the shelf below the scanner flatbed to expose the ports and route cables to them through the guide channels on the back of the unit), so you may wind up having to purchase longer cables for this than you'd have to if they just put the ports on the back like any sensible has). Use of the back paper load tray (for loading envelopes, smaller photo papers, etc.), requites the user to awkwardly reach in to press the "paper release" to insert the paper. This is bizarre, and is the only printer I've ever owned that had such a requirement. There also doesn't appear to be any way to set an administrative user name or password on the unit (for wi-fi, etc.) on the latest firmware version, which seems to be a serious oversight.

I've used printers at home all my adult life. I'm not sure for how many years but I primarily use All-in-1 models. Not only is print speed and print quality very important to me, but also the printer's ability to scan documents using an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). In the past several years, I've purchased, then sold, printers because of their inability to properly handle scanned documents. That said, this brother printer has more than met my needs. I just scanned a 30+ page home insurance document that was double-sided without any issues what so ever. Based on the problems I had with my last printer - not a Brother - this is incredible. I couldn't be happier. The only issue I've run into with the printer is fax related. I've been able to send out faxes with no problems. However, accepting outside faxes - which I have only done in testing - has been a problem. Brother hard-coded to 4 the number of telephone rings max before the printer will pick up. I need 6 or 7. So, whenever I'm not around to manually tell the printer to accept a fax, it intercepts messages that should roll over to voice mail and treats the calls as though they are incoming faxes. Even with the fax issue, this is one of the better All-In-1 printers I've had in a long time. I strongly recommend it.

I've always been an HP printer lover. But as HP started raising prices on ink and the constant paper jams - I gave Brother a try. (I've had a brother laser printer forever and it never stopped working - I replace toner cartridge once ever 1.5 years!) Then my HP ink jet took a dump and gave brother a try. This printer has out performed any HP that I've owned and as of today (5-8-20) - not a single issue or cartridge replacement. Granted I use color printing sparingly - but with same use using HP - not even comparable. I'm a Brother supporter for life! High quality - low price - intuitive - easy to use - many features - communicates well over network - air printing is seamless.... The list goes on.... Purchase in confidence, you will love this printer!

Easy set up even for a non-techie. Quick printing and scanning, even for two-sided documents. And, color copies look clear and professional. Overall, an excellent value for the money.

I hate changing ink cartridges every couple of months. It's a pain in the you know what. But this printer minimizes that annoying inconvenience. Also the color is not that bad. May not be photo quality for photographers but is good enough for my business purposes. Also, went with this specific model because it seems to be one of the very few that does double sided scanning which I love. You won't be dissatisfied with this one. It goes on sale on occasion so that's the best time to buy it.

This machine is a great simple plug/ play device. Download a few options and link to your computer and you are ready to scan/ E-fax print / copy from multiple devices and via Bluetooth. This is by far the best out of the box electronic device to operate and gives me all the functions I needed for my home office. Very satisfied

Very good photo printing, like the tank feature for ink, absolutely love multiple paper sources so we can keep letter in one tray, photo in another and for odd jobs use the rear feed for envelopes or up to 11X17 paper.

This printer was purchased for an offsite office. Had some difficulty finding a printer that held 11x17 paper but this one did.

I purchased this printer for my small business because of the outstanding reviews. The printer is loud and slow, even on the monochrome setting. The quiet setting option on the printer menu, prints even slower. It goes through ink quickly. I have no idea why they claim it as a year of ink in the box. The black ink needed to be replace within 3 weeks. I was planning on taking it back to Best Buy but it was past the 14 day return policy. I intended it to be my primary printer to replace my older Brother printer. Unfortunately, it will now be my second back up printer. I will now need to purchase another another printer to replace it for a new primary. Purchasing this printer was a costly mistake for my business. One thing in its favor, is the quality of the print. If you don’t print much for your business and are not in a rush, then I would recommend it. But if not, I would advise you to purchase a different model of the Brother printers.

    So Far, So Great!

Running a small business and needing a printer that offered speed without sacrificing too much in image quality, and also cost per page being a major factor, my options were limited. When my Canon MX922 was discontinued I first turned to Epson because of the ink yields with their new tank system. Unfortunately, it was by far the slowest printer that I have ever used. At one point, the pages were printing so slowly I considered racing it by drawing the images. It advertised 5ppm color but the cardstock I printed on took 1 minute and 6 seconds per page. The MX922 did the same image in 11 seconds. Needless to say, I returned the Epson. After extensive research, despite some Amazon reviews that left me a bit leery, I decided on the Brother J5945DW. While the graphics are a notch below the Canon, they are good enough for my needs, and the speed is fantastic. It pumps out the same image I mentioned earlier, at 13ppm. The yield cost comes out to approximately 2.9 cents per page. With the double 250 page capacity lower trays, and a 100 page rear tray, I can switch back and forth from cardstock to inkjet receipts without having to remove the paper. The scanner worked very well, scanning right to Adobe .pdf, and the set up took less than 15 minutes out of the box. So far, after 2 weeks, it's a 5 star printer, though some reviews have also said it works great...until it doesn't. So, I will update this review should I run into any early breakdown issues.
