Great Student Printer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Brother has hit upon a good strategy for their next generation of InkVantage printers: Give families a deal they can’t refuse. This printer is a great value based on size and price. We got this for my son who is starting college this fall. This fits in his dorm room nicely as it takes up little more space than 2 sheets of paper side by side. It’s also light, making it easy to move with. Because of the capacity, he won’t have to worry about ink refills while he’s on campus. He also doesn’t have to worry about finding a public printer on campus if he’s doing homework in his room. Set up is straight forward so he can share the printer with his roommates. At ~6 pages per minute, this is not the fastest printer in its class, nor is it the sharpest. The single sided scanner is good quality, but slow. However, black ink is <$0.01 per page for genuine Brother refills. For the average user, this will last a year. Compared to the Brother laser printer we have, the text is not as sharp, but it’s still very readable. I’m not sure I would use it in a business setting, but it’s certainly adequate for home and school use. Colors are clear and accurate. Photos are not overly saturated. The only difficulty I had with the printer was it’s small display screen. My eyes aren’t what they used to be and I’m used to huge monitors. The 1.3” screen was a bit of a disappointment here. It does the job in the end, using button controls. It’s clear that Brother worked hard to produce a value priced entry and this is one of the compromises they made. It’s a value judgement I’m happy to make..

Almsot a great all-in-one printer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I haven't tried all the functions except for the setup and printing. The set up was pretty easy compared to other brands that I have been using for years. I personally set this one up wirelessly and I didn't even need to physically plug it into a computer or laptop, I simply used my phone to set it up wirelessly. Now if you need to have your other devices like a desktop or laptop, you will of course need to be on the same wifi network and add the printer to your device. Like I mentioned, I have not used the scanning feature of yet, but my main goal was to check out the printing part, the major part of why I personally buy printers to begin with. The unboxing was simple, not a lot of parts, just the printer cartridges. Even the power cord is already attached and pretty much ready to go. I didn't even use the CD Rom that came in the box. The quick start guide is great. Step by step was clear and concise for me to follow. The initial setup with new cartridges turns out to be about a minute or two test prints and alignments the the printer does with your interaction initially. And printing wirelessly through my laptop and desktop worked without issues once I added the printer to the devices. Printing was pretty fast and the output was perfect. No alignment issues out of the box so far. Now my only negative on this printer is that it is loud when initially loading to print. It's like a faulty transmission in an old car that needs work. So loud that it interrupts phone conversations because it's also distracting thinking it may be broken. It's that loud.

I'm not a fan of printers
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've gone without a printer for about 5 years. Recently I found that I had to visit a relative whenever I needed something to print and it was getting annoying. needless to say the brother J805 is now handling that problem for me and is doing a great job. Now to discuss pros and cons: Initial Setup: Very easy, packed very well with good instructions and info on getting ink delivered when you need it which is very nice. Connectivity: Wifi was painless. Found my router and connected without any issues. I dont like to use wires as I want the flexibility of putting my printer whenever I want. I set up our android phones with a very easy to use app that brother provides on the app store. Performance: quality is what you would expect, pretty awesome initially it walks you through with a sheet that it prints out with lines and if they are broken etc etc. Everything was perfect for me so didnt have to clean any heads or anything. Accessibility: probably my favorite feature is where the cartridges go. A small compartment easily accessible in the front. Lol its obviously so easy to install which is a good thing for me as you cant mess it up, they only fit one way. It also allows remote printing which I have not currently tried. Cons: Havent had a printer in a while but just like my old ones it feels very easily breakable, meaning if you are planning on constantly moving it something could go wrong as any product that is made out of plastic components. Overall it's a great printer that personally I'll use sparingly but at least it's now hooked up and ready when I need it.

Another fine quality Brother printer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The form factor on this All In One is nice and compact. The ink was very easy to install and the setup was a breeze. I had it printing from my Mac, Surface Pro and iPhone in no time. All three installed with ease. It's important to go through the setup wizard steps, especially for the wireless network setup part. The fax machine setup was easy and straight forward. It printed very nice and printed on both sides of the page with no additional setup. There is an option to print only one sided as well. The print quality was great with no smudges or stray lines. Installing the ink was also easy and straight forward. The package claims that there is enough ink to last a year. That is yet to be seen, but I don't print a ton of documents now that my kids are out of the house. Overall, this is another great product from Brother. It is my third product from them and they have all exceeded my expectations. The paper tray isn't large, so this would be best suited for a home or small office that doesn't print a ton. While it has many good business features, it lacks the capacity for a busy office.

Another successful "all In one" from Brother!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm very happy to report that this is another Brother success story! This printer/scanner is awesome. It is slightly different from a higher priced model, lacks fax and ethernet, is a bit slower on the output, but a decent product is delivered. It uses ink tank cartridges, coupled with an internal ink tank, and what comes with it should last (on average) for a year. I'll see how that pans out over time, but I trust the outputs they've said with the caveats provided. This DOES have an auto document feeder (20 pages) and scans the pages in as duplex so no need to scan page one, the flip over and scan page two, etc.....it does both with a single pass. Note that duplex scanning is a very advanced feature for a smaller office/home office situation. Will this be the printer you print out the dictionary on? Not really. But it will suffice for many/most looking for solid printer/all in one, at a decent price. You can print from your phone, from WIFI once set up on your network, and can turn off remote access if so desired. Or you can make copies, scan documents into a PDF format, etc.

INKvestment is the real deal
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is our second Brother INKvestment printer. We acquired the first last year and it included two years worth of ink in the box. I was initially a little skeptical of the thought of a “two-year” inkjet printer because I’ve had countless inkjet cartridges dry out on me before or shortly after installation. It was mostly due to being stored too long before use. My fears were quickly put to rest. Our original Brother INKvestment printer is a year old and after a year of frequent use, the ink shows no signs of needing replacement any time soon. Our first INKvestment printer caused me to have lofty expectations for this second printer. This Brother MFC-J805DW all-in-one ships with one year of ink in the box. I compared the LC3033 super high-yield ink cartridges from this printer with the INKvestment LC3035 ultra high-yield 2-year cartridges. This printer is compatible with both and the LC3033 is what I intend to use for replacements whenever the bundled cartridges run dry. The dimensions of the cartridges are identical with the only difference being the LC3035 has a bigger tank containing more ink despite maintaining the same footprint. There is just an empty space on the 3033 in the area where the extra ink resides on the 3035. Setup is super easy. I never use the bundled disks, as I’m sure most people don’t due to the lack of optical drives on most newer PCs. The drivers and utilities are readily available for download on Brother’s website. Wifi setup was easy and so far has been rock-solid reliable. The 1.8” screen is kind of tiny but isn’t the tiniest printer LCD I’ve had to use. Thankfully, great contrast makes the screen more easily viewable despite its tiny size. It’s also not a touchscreen but I found the buttons to be intuitive and easy to use. This printer is a true multifunction all-in-one. That means it has print/scan/copy/fax. Many all-in-ones, especially at the lower end of the price spectrum as this is, only offer print/scan/copy. It also has an automatic document feeder and full physical keypad. There aren’t a ton of buttons, which is a good thing. It cuts down on confusion and helps keep things logically organized. Printing performance is very nice. We mostly print schoolwork, personal documents and other non-business related items. This Brother excels at those tasks. We do not use it to print photos because we have a special hi-res dedicated photo printer for that purpose. However, for text and minor graphics, this machine is more than capable. Print speed isn’t world-beater fast but it’s fast enough for most of our needs. Like just about every other printer out there, inkjet or otherwise, it’s noisy while printing but not distractingly so. All in all, we are very happy with this printer and the features it offers. I just have to see if these 3033 cartridges live up to their promised useful life like the 3035 has done. Brother based the ink cartridge life on 150 pages per month. We don’t print nearly that volume, especially during the summer. For that reason, I’m hoping both cartridges last much longer than promised.

Easy set up. Good quality printing
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The setup for this printer was pretty straight foward and didn't take much time. The only issue that I have found with the printer is the paper tray is quite small and will only hold about 50 pages of paper or so. The paper tray is adjustable for different sized mediums. The scanner does a good job and can be accessed via wifi which I found quite handy. Comes with a phone line and installation CD. As usual it does not include a connection cord but now a days everything is wifi anyway. If you do want to connect via ethernet you will need the cable. Print quality of pages in both color and black and white were very good quality. The colors were crisp for an inkjet printer.

exceptional prints with 1 year of ink!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.and a 2 year warranty The new inkvestment tanks are twice as large as most other cartridges. They put out about 7.5 times the yield of typical ink tanks.( 200 pages) The new inkvestment tanks system, works by taking the ink from the disposable cartridges and transfers it into permanent ink tanks inside the printer. Brother boasts an impressive 1 year of printing with the new tank capacities, (before needing to buy more ink), right out of the box. **with an estimated 1500 pages per month, of typical printing replacement cartridges can be bought with 1500 to 6000 page yields, and are very easy to install. It usually takes about 7 minutes after installing new ink cartridges to transfer the ink to the tanks. This printer also has a "Page Gauge" that gives you a pretty accurate idea on how many pages are left to print, before needing more ink. The design is very similar to past models, except for a small extension off the right of the machine, for the ink tank system. The display is a color 1.8" screen. (non touch screen) the control panel also tilts to make the screen and buttons easier to see and access. Aside from the inkvestment tanks, the printer also has a "Web" button in which you can login into most of the popular cloud storage services, and scan files or images directly to them, as well as send emails. Depending on which service you link to the printer, you might need to give permission and register your new device through your phone or pc's web browser. mobile printing services work with Airprint, google cloud, Brother smartphone apps, Mopria, and Wifi direct. Even though the paper tray can hold 150pages, the output tray can only fit 50pages. (so be cautious of large print jobs) the ADF tray holds a max of 20 sheets. Scan resolutions include; 1200 x 2400 dpi for optical, and 19200 x 19200 interpolated 2-sided printing with print resolutions maxing out at 6000 x 1200dpi printing 10ppm of color , and 12ppm for black and white The print quality is really good, I compared the prints with an older Brother Laser printer, even though the laser prints had darker blacks, the J805DW printed a sharper image, with an overall better look. Borderless Color photos took at least 5 minutes or more, and had exceptional quality. The prints looked like they were just done at a photo lab. OEM inks offer fade and colorfast resistance. However, the longevity is more so determined by the archival quality of the paper used, and how the paper is physically handled. If all conditions are good, you could end up with prints lasting 70 to 80 years. So far very impressed with the quality, and the features!

Easy Setup and Nice Phone App
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Brother MFC-J805DW is easy to set up, with only a few pieces of tape to remove and a quick routine to put the new cartridges in, connect to your Wifi etc. You have a CD for the full install on your PC. This model is one of the new "Ink-Vestment" models where the ink should last an average user a year. Obviously the review is at the beginning of that year, so we aren't rating the longevity of the ink. The paper tray seemed a bit on the flimsy side, but was easy to remove and replace with a stack of paper loaded. This model also has a top feeder for loading pages to fax or copy. The fax worked flawlessly. Printing from a PC was fast, reasonably quiet, and the print quality looked great at the default settings. I've wanted to print and scan from my phones for a while but this was the first printer I've had where it worked easily with a phone app. The IPrint&Scan app is free and was simple to set up and use. I had scans on my phone in seconds and you can choose JPEG or PDF for the output. No more snapping phone photos of receipts to forward to someone--these were sharp and clear and took seconds to acquire. You can also connect your printer to the popular cloud file storage accounts out there, but I opted out of that since it meant giving Brother access to it. You can choose to open a file yourself on the phone and print it when you are connected to your home wifi. The MFC-J805DW doesn't take up a lot of room, occupying a space less than 18 by 15 inches and 8 inches high. The ink cartridge numbers are displayed on the cabinet above the ink "hatch." If they really last a year, you're likely to forget the model number of the printer. (That's also on the cabinet above the LCD screen.) The LCD screen could be larger. It's hard to read until you tilt the control panel upward. This model is priced at $160, a bit higher than other models meant for simple home use, but the ease of use with the phone app and a top paper feed are things I've never gotten to enjoy easily. So it deserves the 5 stars.

Perfect
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A great printer! I can’t believe how much ink it can hold! The ink cartridges are huge and should last me over a year. The box states a years worth of I print 150 pages per month. I don’t print that much so it should last longer. The ink cartridges are affordable as well they are around 30 bucks each and you only need to replace the color that is empty. So even if I have for replace all 4 that means I’ll have another year plus. Great printer. Reason 4 stars is because it’s a little loud. Squeaks a lot but maybe because it’s new?

Price does not justify features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The print quality is only OK, ink usage so far is very good but that might be more due to the lack of good quality color prints, even b/w quality is lacking. The small paper tray and inability to handle higher bonded paper above 24lbs. Lack of duplex scanning is also a negative. The lack of inclusion of older type usb cable (one end is usb a) or an Ethernet port. The control panel is not touch screen If the price was much lower then maybe but given duplex scanning, truncheons screen and better print quality is available for this price or even less.

AVOID! BROKE IN WEEKs AND NO SUPPORT!!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.AVOID AT ALL COSTS. BROKE IN 2 MONTHS, SUPPORT NON-EXISTANT!!!! After less than 2 months of very light printing, the paper started jamming. Cleared the jam, reset the printer -- same thing. Looking into the rollers from the access panel, it appears the roller brackets are cracked. Very, very cheap flimsy printer. Spent days trying to reach a Brother support person, with no luck. In fact, their support line disconnects you after you hold for a long time. This is apparently a ghost company that sells junk and has no warranty support. I will go out of my way to never buy another Brother product or shop at Best Buy.
