I give a A+++ for easy set up and that is most of the battle for me. It does good copies, but I have not done any pictures yet. Not planning on doing a lot of pictures.

Printer purchased because Epson 3in one died and was a disaster machine. Brother has good color. BIG problem with voice mail and fax interface. there is none. Callers to my voice mail get fax signal and cannot leave a message. After lengthy discussion with Brother's tech, I have disconnected phone line to printer. Voicemail now works. Luckily, I do not need fax for much. When needed I will reconnect phoneline. Other printer manufacturers know how to solve this problem, but not Brother. Duh.

I got this printer because my 6-year old HP 7510 Photosmart was beginning to show its age, particularly by being unreliable in its connectivity to Wi-Fi. I suspected that a new printer would have updated electronics, so that reliable connectivity would be a given. As far as this Brother model, I was particularly intrigued by its ability to conserve ink, and therefore be much more economical to operate.
Setting up this printer was not very difficult, but I have had some network management experience, and I feel comfortable with this procedure. I can see how some people with less experience or interest in tech issues could be intimidated, but I found the instructions to be very clear and easy to follow. I would recommend using the software provided, or downloading the “full package” from the support website. Here are my first impressions of this printer:
Pro’s:
-Compact size, fits well on even a small printer table. Access to the paper tray and document feeders is excellent.
-Very quiet operation; with any ambient noise in the room, it is almost impossible for me to even know that the printer is working!
-Massive ink capacity. Obviously, I haven’t had the printer for very long, but all of the ink tanks are still full after 2 weeks of continuous work. I can believe that these ink tanks may last 1-2 years.
-Very reliable connectivity. Even though the printer will not recognize my 5GHz SSID, it will print readily from all of my devices on the network, including my Surface, Chromebook, and Pixel 2xl.
-2-sided printing is quite easy. The scanner feeder will only read one side of a document, however.
-Brother has created fine little applications for scanning and printing for both computers and phones, and these work very nicely, particularly for scanning.
Con’s:
-Whereas the print quality of standard black and white documents is good, it took me some time and effort to learn how to print photos with any degree of quality. I found that trying to print with the paper setting at “other photo paper” resulted in faded and color-inaccurate prints. Using the setting “Brother paper”, as well as switching to “photo quality”, resulted in good prints, but they tend to be overly dark. I can get decent prints if I “overlighten” the picture files prior to printing. Some of these prints are very good.
-Standard printing is slower than my old HP Photosmart; printing color photos demands a good deal of patience.
-The paper tray only holds 100 sheets of thin paper. If you want to print on photo paper, you need to pull out the tray, remove the paper in the tray, and resize the tray with the sliding feeder guides, then replace the tray and enter the paper size and type on the control panel. None of this is difficult, but other printers have dual trays that allow for automatic switching between paper types.
This is a fine, reliable printer that will serve you well if you have modest printing needs for standard documents. It is likely that the cost of operation of this printer will be much less than competing devices due to excellent ink management. (I did notice that to replace all 4 of the “XL” ink tanks will cost about $250, but that should be 2 years or more from now...)
However, if you are an avid photographer and wish to print photos frequently, there are better printer options available on the market. I am satisfied with this printer for the time being, since my photo printing is infrequent.

This made alot of copies for me but I had all kinds of problems with this printer. I followed the directions exactly and it was still difficult to use. It kept telling me I had a paper jam after copying 1 page from my phone and it would stop and tell me to press the green levers to release the stuck paper. There was not any paper jam ever. I would print recipes from my phone to the printer from 1to 4 pages. Then it was very hard to get it to print on both sides of a page. I brought it back to Best Buy and because I had the replacement plan warranty I was able to get a gift card/store credit to use to buy a new printer. This time I choose the Canon Lazer printer which I think and hope will be better. I think that Best Buy has a great replacement plan warranty. Anyway it worked out great for me this time. Hope this helps***********************

I shopped around a lot, read reviews and landed on this printer. CNET gave it a thumbs up but of course some of the customer reviews were a bit scary. If it matters I'm using windows 8.1, watched a few you-tube videos to see what I was in for and then set it up and started printing. Print quality seems good though I'm sure we won't print any photos as long as the ink lasts as long as they claim I'm good.

Got this as a cheaper alternative to replacing the toner in my bulky brother laser printer.
Although this printer is okay in terms of print and print quality, unlike the laser printer which is very solid in its construction, this printer due to its flexible flimsy plastic parts has a lot of bad paper jams. A lot those jams result in tiny pieces of paper getting stuck which become very hard to remove. The manual and online support has no solution for this.
For this price range I would have expected a better design.
Still given the fact that I’ve used it for a while and haven’t seen the ink levels reduce, this printer is definitely one of the better printers with regards to repurchasing ink.
Another con is this printer doesn’t support dual sided copy functionality, which sucks. I wish I had known before I got. I only noticed a while after :(

Do You Want to Pay for the Printer or the Ink?

I chose this printer because it prints wirelessly, has a port for an SD card (I think it is) and seems to print photos easily. But what really sold was the way that ink is replenished. The business model for most printers seems to be to basically give away the printer and make money on ink subscriptions. You pay enough for the Brother printer and just buy ink when you need it.
