We bought this printer for our son who was going to college. It is a great little printer and I would recommend it for the quality; however, we were not able to use the wireless feature because his school has a 2-step wireless access and the printer only allows you to put in one wireless password. He ended up connecting with a printer cable and heard that's the thing to do in a dorm anyway because people randomly print on wireless printers. The printer doesn't take up much space, has a scanner and a fax (probably won't use the fax), and the ink is inexpensive.

Best part of the printer is that it automatically prints on two sides instead of having to manually turn pages around. It's got a great display and control on the front, and easy setup. WiFi works great and is much better than my earlier HP and Canon printers.

Really love this printer. It was pretty easy to set up. I did it through WiFi. Printing and making copies are super easy and fast. It a lot quieter then my last printer. I like that I can print directly from my cell phone. Their app can use some upgrading tho. Still need to see how long the ink last for.

Little use low value from ink cartridges

Brother gives you few prints from an ink cartridge over months of little use. I rarely print anything, but this printer keeps telling me that ink cartridges are low and need to be replaced. They also discourage using any print cartridges that aren't Brother brand. I got tired of being robbed by replacing cartridges I believe were full of ink. So after the printer said I had to replace a cyan cartridge I cracked open the cartridge to see how much ink was in it. There wasn't much but outside of occasional cleaning of the cartridges I don't know how the ink got spent. Pictures provided.
When I've had major printing to do I seem to get more pages printed from the ink cartridges. When the printer sits for months with little use, ink cartridges are still spent mysteriously. I don't think I'm getting value for money spent on these ink cartridges when I don't use the printer often.

It’s great. Compact. Easy to use.
But I placed it and set it up on my desk, connected the ink cartridges inside, printed one TEST sheet of paper, worked great. then, I’ve been traveling back and forth. 9 months have passed since that first TEST paper. I come back and I turn on the printer to print something... and there NO INK in the cartridges it says.
This printer hasn’t made a single copy! I am in the process of contacting Best Buy and Brother to see why it indicates no ink when no copies have been printed.

We bought this printer because of its size and options to go along with if. It prints relatively fast and can even do double sided pages. The ink lasts as long as you would expect from an ink jet printer so just be prepared to buy ink regularly.

I purchased this printer for its Airprint connection. I have been well pleased by the ease of setting up and quality of the connection. The primary attraction was the price. The speed of printing and quality of the ink was simply a bonus.

This printer was easy to set up and outputs nice looking color and black & White pages. The ink also lasts well. My only complaint is that it prints slowly. It can take almost a minute to print a single color page.

I thought i was not going to need a printer when my son left to university, it turned out not the case. I stuck with brother brand because have not had any issues at all. Price was right, install was easy. Nice and compact. Perfect for the low printing house. No issues.

For starters, people who sporadically do some printing, scanning, copying, and even faxing. This really is the best bang for your buck all-in-one printer. Things like the paper-feeder for the scanning and copying is very nice. And it can even do auto-duplex printing on both sides of a paper, even though the way it does it might concern you that something will get jammed.
I think that if you work this printer hard, every day, it will probably start wearing itself out in under a couple of years. But for the casual office user, this does plenty.
And even better, Brother has started selling the cartridges at competitive prices with the re manufactured cartridge market. For most people, Black Ink is the most important, and they sell it at a pretty decent price. So that's also a plus. Yes those re-manufactured cartridges can get pretty cheap, but they're always leaking ink, and they go out quickly. and the printer always reports that its empty.
The software is sometimes cumbersome to install onto the computer, especially since you have to find it online at the Brother website and decide which version of the software is best for you. You do need to download the full software to take advantage of the scanning functions and also use it as a digital faxing machine where you can send digital documents out to a fax, and receive faxes as digital documents, not have to waste alot of paper. I'd recommend connecting directly with this printer via USB cable (not included) so that all of those other functions perform smoothly, however it can work over wifi, but I would stick with normal printing and scanning. The on-board software is okay, nothing fancy. You can connect to wifi from the buttons controls. Its not a touchscreen. You can print from the Brother app on your smartphone.
I'd say for a family, that has multiple uses from different people. This does alot for very, very little money. But if you are running an office, maybe its enough for a single office user, but not for an entire office.

This printer has proved to be relatively easy to use. It does make quite a bit of noise and shakes quite a bit because it sits on a TV tray. Overall it proves to be a fair value at the price I paid for it.

Printer includes complete set of ink cartridge, has faxing option works wonderfully, scanning and copying, printed material has superior detail, 1.8'' display screen shows time and ink levels, no photo printing option but everything else is awesome, wireless printing is hard to connect haven't been able to connect to it yet after installing driver. Paper tray holds up to 50 sheets plenty for personal or household use. Best printer in terms of value, much better than the HP brand ones I had in the fast, printing speed a little slow again not an issue if it's just for personal use.

Got this printer during the holiday season because I needed a better home printer. Was very surprised by the ease of setup and functions of the printer. Feel like I've finally moved into the current generation with the, wireless, fax and mobile applications available with the printer. Excellent value. Only reason I didn't give it five stars is because the wireless connection in the printer can cause it to go off line at times necessitating a total reboot.

So far I love the Brother Mfc-j485dw Wireless All-in-One Printer. It was very easy to set up for the 2 computers we use in our household. It does take a little time to start up when you first start printing after not using it for a while - but I think this is normal if the printer has "gone to sleep". The copies are clear and print quickly. My husband really loves that he can print from the other room. Scanning is real easy also. I haven't used the copy function yet but I don't anticipate any problems with it. In the future I will probably set up to be able to print from my phone as well.

For the money you can't go wrong. Read the reviews on this before I bought and saw where some people said it was noisy. It is a little noisy, but here for the house we are very happy with it. Easy set-up and for the money you can't go wrong.

I went into Best Buy intending to buy another Brother printer. They did not have that printer in stock so I purchased the Brother MFC-J885DW. I did have to purchase a cord to connect it to my computer. The printer was easy to set up and, so far, I'm happy with it. It is a little bit noisy when it prints but that doesn't bother me. The printing is clear and crisp and I recommend this printer to seniors like myself who want something simple and easy to use.

Bought this printer due to good reviews and low cost ink. Easily installed in my iMac with no issues. I like the compact size and still have the paper stored inside the printer. My other devices recognized the printer via Wifi. Very satisfied at the moment.

I OWN A BROTHER MFC-290C AND A MFC-J475DW, IN WHICH THEY BOTH ARE STILL OPERATING JUST FINE. I LOVE THE WAY WAY THE 290C PRINTS PICTURES. THE 475 PRINTS VERY FAST. MY FRIEND LIKES MY PRINTERS SO I BOUGHT THE MFC-485DW FOR HIS BIRTHDAY. IT WAS SO SIMPLE TO SET UP, AND WORKS VERY WELL IT PRINTS VERY CLEAR AND FAST AND IS THE PERFECT SIZE. . I BOUGHT IT MAINLY BECAUSE HE NEEDED A FAX MACHINE. I LOVE THIS MACHINE SO MUCH I WENT AND BOUGHT ONE FOR MY SELF. NOW I HAVE THREE. I SAY I BUY THEM IN CASE ONE BREAKS BUT SO FAR NONE OF THEM DO. I HAVE HAD THE 290C FOR OVER SEVEN YEARS AND NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES. I LOVE BROTHER MACHINES AND RECOMMEND THEM HIGHLY.
