    Great Machine

This is a very nice machine. Print quality is exceptional and really compares favorably to a laser printer. The paper handling options are great. If you need 11x17 inkjet printing, then this will be your machine. I look forward to seeing how long the tank printing lasts. Other inkjet printers manufactures really want you to subscribe to their cartridge program, but unless you print a lot, that is a very expensive proposition. If the ink lasts as long as advertised, and the ink is somewhat comparable to 3rd party options, then I will stick with genuine parts. I never got the "hard sell" and intrusiveness that other printer manufactures seem to do regarding the ink. Time will tell tho. The printer speed is fast and the printer is pretty quiet. I have read other reviews stating there was problem with scanning in portrait mode....that simply isn't the case (although my first test scan was in landscape and I did intend for it to be portrait). You just have to rotate what you are scanning in the doc feeder (although it does not state that on the machine itself - it does in the manual). Speaking of the manual, the downloadable PDF version was good which I appreciate. However, I did not need it to set up the printer - that was very easy and quick. Downloading the standard software and installing was also easy and quick. I do have some minor quibbles.....the PC fax receive feature is not intuitive. Have not gotten it to work, but I am not going to spend much time on it either. PC fax send was easy. I do wish this machine had the ability to auto scan double sided documents. According to the manual, other (likely more expensive Brother MFC machines have that capability), but I don't understand why this machine at >$300 MSRP does not do it. It does double sided printing well, so why not? It is easy enough to scan in each side individually and combine, but that would be a nice feature. My other minor quibble is that the Ethernet, USB and phone ports are inside the printer and you have to route the cables to connect. I don't like that the ports are not external on the back, and I had to use a phone line connector to extend my phone line. Last minor quibble is that you have to have a Brother account to register the unit. I don't remember having to do that with a previous Brother laser I had probably over a decade ago. Lastly - I won't see this is a quibble since it is well advertised, but be aware of the printer size. It is big - but that should be expected with a printer that can easily handle 11x17 paper. All in all, an impressive machine. I was tempted to knock down my rating to 4 stars because of my quibbles as stated above, but the machine does so well in most areas, I could not rightfully do that. I would probably give it a 4.5*s though due to the port locations and lack of automatically fed double side scanning.

Incompatible with ARM based processors and brother's support attempts is slow to understand. I would NOT recommend this product. I had already had manufacturer design/program problems with two HP all-in-one printers. And this one had something that just floored me. There was a design/production failure in the area of the upper access door that prevented it from being close thus preventing the device from powering up and functioning. How does a production site miss something like this?!!!

This is the fastest inkjet printer I have ever seen! It prints on vertically on letter-sized paper, which seemed a bit unique, but now I see why. The printhead makes fewer passes traveling in that orientation. Black and white text documents are printed in less than 3 seconds per page. Full color, fine detail, full-page photographs are printed in less than 30 seconds! Scanning to my phone is simple via the app. Simply set the document in the feeder or on the bed, hit scan in the app, and the image is uploaded to the phone a few seconds later. I have the machine connected to my network via Wi-Fi, but there are USB and ethernet ports available. Something else really unique is that the ports for the cords are under the scanner bed, in the front of the machine. Then there is routing for the cords to run cleanly out the back. It seemed odd at first, but it occurred to me that this allows a person to change or check cords without having to get behind the machine or pull it out from the wall. Someone should have thought of that years ago! The setup is simple. Ink cartridges can only be loaded one way, and they enter via a panel right in front. After a few minutes, it is ready to complete the alignment and connect to the network. Since I chose wireless, a QR code appeared on the display. That directed me to the Brother app, which guided me through the connection process. As expected, it was simple and completed in about one minute. From there, the machine was already setup on my phone. When I told my computer to add a new printer, it instantly found the machine on the network and connected to it. There was no need to search (at least on my home network). Overall, I am really impressed with this printer. It is fast, and the INKvestment system seems to work really well. I have another INKvestment printer that is now about two years old, and it is working just as well as the day I set it up. The ink lasts so much longer than traditional cartridges, and the print quality is excellent for everything I need. The one and only negative comment I have about this printer is that it is HUGE! The scanner bed is capable of scanning ledger paper. It should work great for scanning large documents, like diplomas. However, finding a place to put this machine could be a challenge for some people. I would highly recommend measuring where you hope to put it before you get it home and realize you have to buy new furniture.

This is an amazing printer! It prints super fast and good quality. I’ve had a basic inkjet printer for a few years now but this one makes me feel like I’ve come out of the dark ages and seen the future. Set up was easy. I added paper, and ink. The ink comes in cartridges that you shake before putting into the printer. I then checked the print quality which came out fine. I then had to do a print alignment which was easy, the instructions tell you exactly what to do and I had no problem following them. I didn’t do the fax machine function because I don’t have a land-line. I then had to download an app, make an account and register the printer.      I had some problems setting up the wi-fi with the app so I did it manually through the printer itself but that was easy. Much easier than our other printer.      I printed a document that came out so fast, I was a little in shock. Then I scanned it and opened the app where it immediately transferred. I was then able to text it to someone else in less than a minute. Next, I printed an 8.5x11” photo and the colors and quality were great. Overall, very happy with this printer and highly recommend.

I have been on the market for a good quality printer for a while now. Lucky for me I always had access to a printer at school or work but now that I am out of school and I recently have moved I needed to have access to a printer so I did not have to rely on the office to print personal materials. I used the printer mainly for black and white but I did test the color on some photo stock that I had and the photos came out amazing. I would recommend this printer to others. It may seem pricey but there are so many features that make this printer well worth it. I do not have a home phone But If I needed to I would be able to use this for fax or faxing documents. connecting via wifi makes it so that there is next to no cable management necessary, All I needed to do was figure out how to hide the power cord. This is my first brother product and I am happy with the overall experience. The printer worked easy, finding the drivers was simple. The set up guide that came in the box was very helpful If I did not have a clue for setting up printers.

This is a really big multi-function printer scanner copier. It takes up a lot of real estate space on my desk. Pictures on the website doesn’t really tell the story of how BIG this printer is. There is a loading tray on the bottom and paper feeder in the back. I guess if you need the paper feeder function for larger prints its worth it or if the bottom tray fails. Cable connect weren’t in the back but inside the printer. That’s kind of weird to me. The scanner hinge slams down if you’re not careful. Opening the printer also has the same problem of slamming down. Took about 10 mins to setup the printer. Loading the ink which is also kind of deceiving. The black cartridge give you an impression it’s the same shape in the back but it narrows in the back not leaving room for more ink. I upgraded the firmware but need to find the password hidden in the inside back of the printer. Hard to get to since the printer is so BIG. Despite all the negative this multi function printer does perform well. Its pretty fast in printing and scanning. (just printer 5 pages and scanned 5 pages as well). I don’t recommend this for home usage unless you have a small home office/business that’s need all the larger paper format. With that said the over design isn’t very good but it functions well.

    Great printer and scanner!

I am loving this Brother inkjet printer! Despite it being the largest and most complex household printer I have interacted with yet, it has so far been the easiest to work with by far. The setup was very easy and it nearly set itself up by itself. The only thing I had to do was connect to my home network, add the ink and paper and tell it what paper I added, and scan the print test sheets. From the time I opened the box to the time I was printing something was 10 minutes at the most. A huge plus to the large size of this unit is the enormous built in scanner. When I opened the cover and saw the size of the scanner space my jaw literally dropped. It's the largest I have seen aside from maybe huge office printers, but even then this scanner may be larger. As a photographer who often scans and prints photos, this has me so excited! Loading the ink cartridges and adding paper to the tray is very easy, and the user interface on the screen seems great so far. There are no sensitivity issues and the screen size seems sufficient enough. The one thing I noticed is that the actual print job is a little slow compared to many other printers I have used, but the quality comes out great so I cannot complain about the amount of time it takes to print it. Considering it is an inkjet printer, I was also pretty happy with the actual photo printing capabilities of this printer. I tried printing a few 4x6 glossy photos and they came out pretty decent. I would not buy this as a photo printer though, the quality is not there to for it to be a mainly photo printer. Also took me a few tries to learn that the 4x6 photos needed to be put in upside down in order to be printed on the correct side, I made that mistake easily. Overall this printer is excellent for most households and if scanner size is a priority for you, this is an excellent option!

    Another Great Printer From Brother

When considering a printer for your home or office, many people want one that can do everything. With the Brother MFC-6555DW AOI Inkjet Printer, you get a workhorse that meets this criteria. With quality printing and the ability to fax, scan, or copy, all your needs are met. Out of the box, you will need to get everything set up before you are ready to print. First off, you need to find a place to put the printer. This All-in-One is no small, compact printer though. It has a footprint of about 24 inches by 20 inches. You probably also need about 24 inches of height clearance to make sure you can lift the lid up if necessary. This is no lightweight printer either. It weighs nearly 45 pounds, so you will need a sturdy desk or table to put it on. You have some connection options with the printer. I preferred to use an Ethernet connection with mine, but you can connect it to the network with a WiFi connection. If you do use Ethernet, the cable snakes inside the printer. It does not connect in the back like most. If you have other connectors such as a regular phone line for the fax, it also connects the same way. I like this as you can’t accidentally yank it out, and it keeps the cords neat. You then must insert the inkjet cartridges. The cartridges just snap into place, and they fill up in tanks. Brother says there is enough ink included in the box to last you for a complete year. I have not had this for a complete year, so I can not say for sure if this is true. Brother has based this on printing 300 pages a month with 60% being black and white. The cartridges are a good size, so I imagine this is true though. Once all of this is complete, you will likely have to download some software to your main computer. You then must go through a bit of calibration with the printheads to get everything working. After that, you are ready to go. The inkjet printer offers the features you would expect with a new printer – double sided printing, multisize paper options, 250 sheet document try, multisided copy, and multisided scan. The printer offers some choices on print quality as well. The regular quality produces great looking documents, but the best quality works extremely well when fine detail is need. I printed some holiday sheets with candy cane borders. The detail was remarkably good. I was impressed with how well the printer worked with it. This all-in-one also has a color display to work from. The display is clear and easy to use. Even though it is a touch screen, I never had a problem selecting exactly what I wanted to. There were no ambiguous selections. When you press a feature, that is what you get. As I connected it to my home network, it was easy to use with all computers in the house. Any computer could select the printer for use, and it would print there even if the computer was in a different room in the house. So, if you are looking for a printer to serve the whole family, this all-in-one will work well. In the end, I am really impressed with the Brother MFC-6555DW. I will say it is still an inkjet. You can tell on basic documents that it is an inkjet. It will never be exactly like a laser printer. But the quality is very good especially with the best setting. I also have a question that if the inkjet sits idle for a few weeks if the ink will dry up. I only mention this because I have seen this with other printers in the past. Aside from these last couple of comments, I really like this printer. It is a solid performer and does everything I need it to do. The copy and scan quality is excellent, and the printer is among the best I have seen in an inkjet. I recommend the Brother MFC-6555DW All-in-One to anyone needing a dependable, high-quality printer that does the other office jobs too.
