Competent but lacking one major option

This is a solid laser (LED) printer. I had no idea it does not utilize a true laser mechanism until I started using fully read the setup/manual. As with most entry level units this is heavy weighing in at just over 49 lbs. Setup was easy, straight forward however there is no ethernet option. Despite the lack of ethernet I was printing from my PC and phone within minutes. It took me longer to remove all the shipping protection, which is good, kudos to Brother for ensuring the product is secure and will not be damaged. Features are what you would expect at this price point except for in addition to the above-mentioned duplex printing and scanning. Really the last two would be deal breakers for me, nothing worse than trying to manipulate paper the correct direction to get a double-sided print. For an additional $50.00 you can get a Brother with those options in addition to NFC printing. Print quality is excellent even though the cost per page seems a bit high in comparison, although it may add up over the life of the printer the acquisition cost of a high-end laser may be prohibitive. I like the on-screen menu and options, easy to read LCD with the options you really need. I did not experience the problem others describe with the auto feeder being off center. I use a good quality paper which I spend a little more for, but it often will avoid finicky problems such as this. The per month paper duty is likely enough for most personal use and some small/from home type business. In conclusion I would recommend but look at the next model in the line for some features I really feel are worth the $$. All that said I would recommend at the price point particularly of some of the other competition. I gave 4 stars for the print quality.

Before I even get started with this review, I have to quickly say how quiet this machine is. It's unbelievable how it barely makes sound even when printing several jobs in a row. This unit really is an "all-in-one" unit for any small office or home business. Having the ability to print over the wifi network just opened up the possibilities for my work flow. I can have clients review work and contracts on a tablet and simply print over the network to this printer. What's even better is that I can take other documents and scan it directly to my phone using one of web services included on the printer itself! This makes it so much easier to quickly email signed papers to a client. The color quality is spot on as far as accuracy, this is NOT a photo printer meant for photography or high resolution graphics. HOWEVER, it does a perfect for color coded spread sheets, color invoices, company logos, brochures, and other small business products like business cards, letter heads etc... I am very happy with the performance of this machine, Brother truly is the only real printing solution!

So far it's everything I could have dreamed of in a printer, copier, scanner and fax all rolled into one. Very easy to operate. I am so happy my son told me about this model. I was just going to get a plain printer. I would have been upset if I had passed on this. I am still learning new things every day about it and looking forward to it.

Great Home Office full-color laser printer

I have been using the this printer for about 3 days so far for general home office printing tasks and copying of papers and receipts. I have also scanned a few items using the flatbed glass and ADF. Overall, this is a great printer for low- to moderate volume home office needs and the print quality is as good as other similar printers I have used from HP. Initial setup was fine, but the printer had three firmware updates that it downloaded after I initially connected it to my Wifi network, which took about 30 minutes to download and reboot three times. This printer is technically not a true "laser" printer like those offered by HP, but rather an LED printer. It still uses light to "burn" the toner onto the paper, so you still have all of the great qualities of laser printing and none of the drawbacks of ink printing, but at a lower cost. It has all of the expected features - Wifi, ethernet, direct cloud printing and scanning, a great color touchscreen interface (a little small though), and a good ADF to scan and copy standard letter or legal size documents. The print quality in both color and black is very good and a brother toner is a great value (for a color laser). Accessing the toner cartridges to replace is about as easy as can be expected. I haven't used this long enough to evaluate the toner life, but based on past experience with other Brother "laser" printers, I'm expecting it to be a great value. It also has built-in re-ordering capability in the software, so the printer will automatically re-order toner cartridges before it runs out, but I didn't subscribe/activate it. The scanning quality is ok - good enough for text documents, receipts and OCR'ing of such, but I wouldn't consider this for any high quality, high resolution scanning needs (i.e. photos). The color quality and resolution of the scans are ok and the scanning speed and integration with the cloud is fine, but a dedicated scanner should be used if high-quality or archival results are needed. The interface and cloud features work well. The Brother mobile app is a little clunky, but works ok. I had some connectivity issues with Windows losing the connection but I suspect that was related to my wifi network and IP settings vs. the printer. I would actually rate this at 3.5 stars if I could, but I'll round up to 4, since the two drawbacks I found are subjective and may not be an issue for everyone. The unit itself is rather large and bulky compared to more compact designs offered by HP (at a higher price). Once you get it setup, it's fine, but don't plan to put this on the end of your desk - it's just too large. The second (bigger) problem is the envelope printing UI/UX is not well designed. To print an envelope, you have to open up the rear panel, flip two levers inside the unit, and insert an envelope in the manual feed slot. Brother is the only printer I've used that has this clunky method to print. Therefore, you cannot print envelopes if you place the printer with the rear of the unit up against a wall. Envelope printing is a common home/office task and I'm surprised that the design is setup in such an unfriendly way.

Brother - MFC-L3710CW Wireless Color All-In-One Printer The MFC-L3710CW printer is a beast of an office printer. Setup: Took maybe 5 minutes to unbox I opened it up took off all the tape and plugged it in and was ready to start printing. On the LCD screen I selected my Wi-Fi network and entered the password. It was immediately showing up on all my computers and phones to print to. Printing: Once you selected a document to print it printed off in about 10-15 seconds after receiving the data over the wireless network! Quality: The quality was perfect as it showed zero smudges or marks. The color printing was bright and vibrant. I tested it out by printing 100 different types of documents from graphs to papers to calendars. All showed the same quality we come to expect from an office printer. Overall: I highly recommend this printer. It fits perfectly in an office and gets the job done with its scanning, copying and printing capabilities!

I love this printer. I use it for school and work documents. It is super fast and great print quality. For the amount of use it’s a bit more then what I need but if you have a small office or work from home and have to print a lot of documents this is the printer for you!

I chose this based on Consumer Reports review. Unfortunately it does not do double sided printing. This is surprising and disappointing given the cost and high ratings for this printer

When it works, it's a good printer, but watch out

Much less than a year after I bought it, my MFC-L3710CW printer crashed with the error message "! No toner". So I assume that one of the toner cartridges went bad, but there was no indication about which toner cartridge was the problem. This happened once before, so I replaced all of the cartridges at a big cost. But that didn't solve the problem. Brother's customer service website gave no clues on how to solve the problem, so I'll have to give up on Brother printers and go back to HP. My business can't afford to be without a printer for long.
