Bottom Line: The Brother MFC-L3770CDW is packed with features and can accommodate several users’ print, scan, and fax needs. Pros: Tons of features, easy to setup, excellent laser prints, versatile paper handling, fast scanning Cons: mediocre picture printing, max scanner glass size is A4, unit might be unnecessary for some Review: This printer packs a ton of features, so my review will only focus on a few. First, setup was a breeze. Everything on the unit is front-facing, and I really like the “hood”-style access to the toner cartridges. The touch screen is also really easy to use with its simple interface. I much prefer this unit to other ones I’ve used. After connecting to my WiFi network and downloading the firmware update, I was able to easily AirPrint a document from my iPhone. Installing the drivers for Mac was easy from the Brother website, although it did redirect me to the Mac App Store for the iPrint & Scan software. Once the drivers were installed, I had no issues connecting and printing from my MacBook. Print document quality is very good, even compared to other laser prints. Black text is crisp and looks great even on low quality copy paper. Color printing of text and simple images (e.g., logos) also looked great. Documents and PDFs processed fairly quickly, with solid single-sided and decent duplex print speeds. The main tray can accommodate a variety of media, including legal sized paper. I also really appreciate the multipurpose tray and manual feed options, since special paper and prints can be tricky to get from loading the main paper tray. Unsurprisingly, given it’s a laser office printer, picture printing is mediocre. I test printed a 5410x3601 image I took with my DSLR as a 5x7” print. Image processing was a bit quicker than I expected, and I had my print in less than two minutes. The print itself was too soft, and looks hazy/grainy even from a distance. I was pleasantly surprised by the scanner - it’s very fast especially compared to other MFCs I’ve used. Black and white duplex scanning of a 16 sheet (32 page) document took 36 seconds in the ADF. It took 8 seconds to scan a 300 dpi 5x7 picture into Adobe Photoshop. Scan quality is also pretty good, especially compared to some of the other MFC scanners I’ve used in the past. One of the other features that I really like is that you can scan directly from the machine or from your PC (using the Brother iPrint & iScan software) to a variety of places, including cloud services (e.g., Dropbox, Onedrive) and email (routed through your PC’s email system). This is particularly useful if you want to scan to your phone or tablet. The only issue that may come up for some is that this unit boasts a “compact design”, so the max size of the scanner glass is A4. Some other units have longer scanning beds that can accommodate legal paper, but users will have to send these through the ADF or make two passes on this unit’s glass. There’s a lot more functionality packed into this unit, and its versatile enough to fit a variety needs. I could easily see this unit in any small office (perhaps ideally suited for up to 5 or so users) that falls within its duty cycle (I believe it’s rated for 1500 pages per month). Single/home office users will probably also like this unit, but it is on the larger side (it’s compact for a color laser MFC but still fairly large) and they may not benefit from all of the things this unit is capable of.

This item was the perfect fit for my needs at the time of purchase. However, there are some major issues associated with this product. One the EGREGIOUS cost factor of the toner cartridges. Why would anyone pay $284 to buy replacement toner cartridges. Buying a new printer turned out to be a better option. Now I have a printer collecting dust in the basement due to this. Secondly, the lack of customer support when this thing broke down. No help to correct the "NoToner" error message I kept getting after installing 4 new toner cartridges. The only solution provided was to buy and install new toner cartridges to see if that would work. If not, instructed to seek out a authorized Brother maintenance repair operation. Very POOR choices.
