This is arguably the worst printer I've ever used. I've had this for over 2 years and I don't think it has ever printed a clean page. There are always smudges across the page. Anything you print looks like it was printed on gray paper with black artifacts in the margins. This is actually my third unit from one purchase. I returned the first because of the poor print quality. The replacement was DOA. I just gave up and kept this third one. I am only able to use is to print personal documents. I would not dare print client documents or a resume with this printer. Any copies you make will have the same problem as printed ones. The only thing this machine does well is scan. If I need to print a resume, I go back to my (very) old Samsung printer. This was my first Brother printer. Sadly, I will never again buy another.

I bought this June 2020. After I received it I didn't open it for about a month due to home remodeling. Easy setup. Printed pages had toner/ink spots all over the page. Cleaned the drum and toner cartridge according to Brother's directions. Several times. One or two pages would print well after that but then the problem continued. Could not get through to Brother on the phone, holding for over an hour. Played phone tag for several weeks. They would not call when I told them I was available, but would call at other times when I was out of town and I had told them (by email) I wasn't available. After several weeks I got in touch after holding on the phone for over 1 hour. They walked me through how to print a maintenance report. I emailed that to them and they said the only thing wrong with it was I needed to replace the toner cartridge. At that point I had printed less than 100 pages. They said the warranty was 3 months on the toner, and it had been 3 months and 2 weeks. The warranty period began not when I received it but when I ordered it, thus losing a couple of weeks when it was in transit. They refused to honor the warranty for the toner cartridge. Have not replaced the toner cartridge yet to see if indeed that is the problem. I'll report back after I scrape together over a hundred bucks for toner.

Hi, we understand you are frustrated and we are sorry to hear that your experience has not been favorable so far. We recommend checking the Brother MFC-L5900DW drum unit for any foreign material that may cause the toner to stick to those areas causing the spots on the page. We would love to hear from you with details: https://www.brother-usa.com/brother-support

I have been a Brother printer user for years. While preparing my taxes, with no time to spare, the printer went from printing fine to not printing at all because it is being blocked by a message to "replace toner cartridge." While I understand that I need a new toner cartridge, the printer was still printing clearly enough for me to complete my tasks for the moment. The idea that the printer stops functioning altogether and suddenly blocks all print jobs with the "replace toner cartridge" message, so that I have to run out and buy a toner cartridge (from Brother) is completely obnoxious. Some things are too obnoxious to deal with ever again. I'm done with Brother for good because of it.
