I have bought numerous Brother printers great value for the money. They all have connected easily to my MacBook Pro but I had to make a few calls to Brother to get it connected correctly. I made 2 calls to brother and other thats the automated system to get my model number (which it never could recognize) I was pleasantly surprised as I was connected to a live customer service person quickly. My issue was resolved very quick. I only gave 4 stars for connecting issue but 5 stars for value and print quality

Inexpensive ink and reliable printing. Not as fast as some other printers but it always works. Refill cartridges are much less expensive than competitors, and I have had ZERO wireless connectivity issues. This thing is a bargain.

Had a Brother printer but when it died we decided to buy a Cannon. That was a mistake so when the Cannon stopped working after a year, we went back to Brother. It is much faster, quieter and more adaptable to our rather sporadic use. It seems a more solid device and we like it much more.

If I had known how sweet this unit is, I would have bought one years ago. I can print from any of my computers, both I-phones, doube sided, clear and, it scans very well. For its price, I don't see how one could buy anything better.

I had this printer for 3 months. So far it's been great. I dont print much. Even though the printer tells me i am low on ink, it's stil working fine with the original cartridges that were in there. Setup was easy. I love that i can print straight from my iPhone. If i stumble into a multi-page PDF on my phone, i just print it on paper and read it, rather than trying to review it on the phone. The scanner works great, but the scan SOFTWARE could definitely use some improvements. It's not too noisy, but a little louder than i anticipated. not a big deal, but something to keep in mind.

So far so good. I looked at a lot of printers before I picked this one. The reviews and price made up my mind. Wasn’t looking for a expensive or fancy printer. Just a every day one. Went to several stores trying to purchase this printer. All was sold out in store and online due to the pandemic and people working from home. I just happen to go on Best Buy website and was able to purchase online. Glad I did. Went back online just too see if I could purchase another one and it was not in stock. This is my first brothers printer. I like the fact that you can still print when one of the cartridge is out. I had a Lexmark for years and it would not let you print when cartridges was low or out.

This printer does the job that a more expensive one can do. I know...the printer I had was a 3 n 1 and had 4 ink cartridges (which I like very much), but cost way more than this Brother printer did. I can tell no difference between the two except the price. I would have given 5 stars except I haven't had it long enough to give it a perfect score. It was an easy setup and easy to operate. Prints great looking photos and documents.

Once I got this connected to the correct wifi I've had no issues. I can be in one room, the printer is in the other and i just hit print from my phone and it prints. Ink and paper are easy to load, ink seems to last a while and is reasonably priced. Only downside is that you have to use the phone app to control this, print, scan and copy, You can't just place a document on the scanner or top load and hit a button on the unit to scan/copy, unless I'm overlooking something. I was able to send faxes by just using the buttons on the unit. Im very pleased with this overall.

Had an Epson for years that finally gave out. I did a LOT of research before I decided on this printer. So far, not disappointed. It prints quickly, photos look great, I love that I can print from my iPad. WiFi setup took a little bit of time - make sure you have your network info and login handy. Otherwise, setup was a breeze. Haven't done any volume printing yet, so I can't comment on ink longevity/cost. Only big criticism thus far, is that I wish you didn't have to take out the paper tray, adjust the guides, and load photo paper every time you want to make a print.

Overall I am super happy with the Brother MFC-J497DW all-in-one inkjet printer. I gave up paying high prices for refill cartridges of another well known printer manufacturer and am so glad I made the switch. The print speed and quality are quite good. I use it for home and very light office work. I really like the auto-feed scanner so I don't have to swap individual pages to scan multiple page documents. Set up was easy and it works great with the wireless network. Here is my 1 not positive review: the USB cable connects under the scanner glass. You have to lift up the glass and feed the cable in from the right side. This eats up a couple of feet of cable when it would have been so simple just to put the plug on the back of the machine. Other than that one minor complaint, this has turned out to be a really good little machine.

I bought this for a short term replacement for my Canon printers. I love Canon, but the ink gets on my nerves. So I found that this was highly rated for affordable printers. The ink tanks have not ran out, which is great. It was easy to use out of the box. The only problem I have had so far is one paper jam in the double sided print mode.

I went through so many cheaper printers I finally had enough and decided to spend a little more money on a Brother and I am so glad I did. This printer is so easy to use, it is a night and day difference from other printers. Print quality is excellent, ink does not smear at all like other printers, ink is readily available in standard and high capacity cartridges. I recently had a large, glass ceiling light that weighs at least 5 pounds fall from the ceiling directly onto this printer and the printer only has a little damage to the outer case. Everything else works just fine! I'm starting to believe this printer is unbreakable.

Best Printer For Mac Device Users

I’ve been a Mac user for 20 years and have tried just about every printer out there — HP, Cannon, Epson, etc. — and have found none better at keeping all my devices WiFi connected than a Brother printer. This printer is no exception. My old Brother printer recently died after slightly over 4 years — at a very inconvenient time due to my workload — mainly because I kept using really cheap generic ink purchased from that big-box online store — and I was unable to find In my local Best Buy store the Brother printer I really wanted so bought a HP Envy 5055. That turned out to be a mistake as I quickly found when trying to print from my iPad or iPhone as it would not wake from sleep mode half the time and I had to go into my office and tap the touch screen to wake it. That being said — the HP is not a bad printer, and I think if you want a printer that prints the best color photos — on photo paper — it’s one of the best at the low-end price — BUT — the ink is very expensive and I found it didn’t last very long. In fact, the starter cartridges lasted longer than the standard cartridges (not the XLs) did. If you research this you’ll find that’s the case with all HP starter cartridges. The only thing I found different on the new Brother printer is that you have to download the app to use the scan feature — at least that’s the case for those who use Apple devices — but it works perfectly. The HP weighs about 11 lbs. - the Brother weighs 18 lbs. - so that may be a factor for some. The Brother printer is priced at the lower end, but it has all the features I’ve grown over the years to really appreciate — the duplex printing, even for scanned documents, and the auto sheet feeder (which the HP did not have). I plan to use Brother ink from now on — it’s cheaper than HP’s ink and I hope will make this printer last longer than my others in which I used cheap generic ink. The only thing I’ve always found a little difficult with Brother printers is setting up WiFi — you have to use a small alpha/numeric screen and the up/down arrows to enter your password. That may be better on the higher priced printers that have touch screens. I did find it easier to type in the password on the HP printer as it did have a touch screen. I highly recommend Brother printers - especially for Mac users.

I originally purchased a basic cannon model from Walmart and having to call the 1800 number to get help because I couldn’t load it on my mac and then getting a customer service rep from a different country on the phone who tried to sell me anti malware/virus software for some ridiculous price and wanted access to my screen, I took it back to Walmart. I was a little skeptical about buying another printer, but decided to try one more time. Ordered the brothers model from Best Buy and so glad I did. Great price, shipped to my house in two days , was a breeze to set up and so easy to use. Absolutely love it

Prints wireless and faxes with ease, but copy?...

We bought this mainly as a replacement for an older printer for our personal use and recently purchase another for business use. The Good: 1. Wireless printing and faxing were easily figured out and work great. 2. Printer ink seems to be fairly efficient and inexpensive...approsximately $22 for black XL replacement, and $23 for color replacement. One of the hugest factors in its favour. 3. Picture printing is decent. It can print very good quality photos, though depending on your quality selection, the best quality can take over 5 minutes, the normal being about a minute or two. 4. It has decent duplex functionality for such an inexpensive printer. I love the fact it can do both sides of a paper with such ease of use, which adds value in my opinion. The bad: 1. The copy function where you simply want to use it as a copier...is not. It wants to always save it to the computer, instead of simply making another hard copy. I looked for awhile trying to find a fix to this without much success on their website. If you are buying it simply to make simple copies, don't buy this printer. If you are buying this to scan a book into your computer, than do...it was created for this in mind. So essentially, to make a copy, you scan it, then print it again from your computer. 2. Printer ink is not quick drying, so ensure to wait a good amount of time before handling your photos. This is minor to me, but possibly notable to others. 3. The paper tray holds only about 35-40 sheets I would say, which is a bit small. I would like one that holds a bit more, especially for business uses. Summary: I really like this printer. It's the best one we have found that is ink efficient, with low ink cost and maintenance. At the time of purchase, I believe it was less than $80, plus there was a bundle for ink cartridges to bring it to around $120. Other than the copy function being a pain, I think it is otherwise very easy to use, especially with the software that supports it. Don't find the buttons on the outside of the printer to be offputting as I hardly use them at all, as everything is run by the software, although the > button is used often everytime we load paper. 10/10 would and have bought again and again.
