I had needed a printer for school and I love this one because it’s a good size. Its wireless and I can print from my phone and laptop. It’s a copier, fax and printer all in one.

This is the best printer I've own so far. It's wireless so it makes it so convenient and prints fast. It scans, prints, and faxes! Can't beat the price.

For the price, can't beat this little guy! It's been working very well for a light-duty printer/scanner/copier; won't use it as a fax. Simple to link to desktop; colors aren't vivid as they are in more upscale printers, so if that's a deal-breaker for you, look elsewhere. Ink cartridges last about as long as they did in my previous HP and Canon printers. Wish it printed 3X5 index cards but 4X6 come out well. Look, if you want a reliable, affordable printer, don't overthink this -- on sale, they're less than $50 and you'd blow that going to a couple movies.

This is a great little printer for the price! Print quality is good. Colors are good and it prints 2 sides. But you can have it print one side if that’s your choice. It is on the smaller size physically which is good, but slightly bulky looking. Perfect size for home office.cartridges seem reasonable in price. got this printer 6 weeks ago and still on intro cartridges.my needs are moderate for over all printing so if you don’t need a heavy amount of printing I’d say this is the printer for you! I recommend it!

I was looking for a printer with reasonable ink prices. The Brother MFC-J897DW was shown to be one with less expensive ink. I was worried about the printer as it has a very reasonable price. Then I saw it was on sale. I could not pass this buy. It turned out to be one of the best printers I have had. It cleans itself and automatically updates itself. It connects to my Wifi faster than my HP printer and it has a FAX. It also prints very nicely. I am so pleased with this printer.

A lot of capability for the price. Set up was fairly straight forward. Wired set up was a piece of cake. Wireless set up took a little more set up but software handled it reasonably well. I did have to restart the install once to be totally successful. Scans and print outs are of good quality. The real test will be buying replacement ink cartridges. Cartridge replacement is very easy as compartment is located on the front of the printer. I would recommend and probably buy again.

I needed to replace my older HP printer because of the Ink cost. I needed replacement cartridges and it was cheaper to purchase this printer then purchase the ink cartridges. Installation was easy and completed with no issues. You must use a USB Cable for the setup and the box does not contain a cable. Printing works very well, scanning is very easy and the Brother Utilities Applications takes care of everything needed. You may also use the front panel on the printer to preform function such as scanning. Replacement cartridges are 1/3 the price of my previous printer.

I like the design of the printer. Front load tray is a nice option. The setup was rather length but was very easy!! The set up pretty much walked you through step by step. The lengthy set up could be that I am using a rather dated laptop. The document feed is nice for making copies of multiple documents. I have not nor do I plan on using the FAX machine so I can not comment. I am only giving 4 stars because I have not had a chance to really put it through its trials. I usually am partial to HP but I thought I would give Brother a shot. I have been pleasantly surprised so far.

A lot of pros to this printer. It's a lot more lightweight and smaller than my previous printer so it's pretty compact. To be fair, my old printer was REALLY old, so everything about this printer is an upgrade. Love that the ink is also affordable and it's prints pretty quickly for my needs. I will say that it's kind of loud, but there is a quiet mode. Haven't really felt the need to use it as the sound doesn't bother me too much. Overall would recommend this printer as it's affordable and compact

    Best value, decent home printer

The entry level brother printer is always the best value on the market when considered together with aftermarket ink availability. I have bought 5 entry level printers over the last 10 to 15 years, its always been good to me. They last as long as 10 years and ink you can get for $1 each online. The print quality is decent if you don't print photos. So if you want inexpensive and mostly print documents while not requiring lightning speed, this should be the printer to consider.

A great printer at a reasonable price. The BT connects very easily and the ink is reasonably priced. Finding the ink is not as easy as some other brands but I purchase online so that's not a real issue for me. The ease of use with the software is a plus too and scanner quality is crisp and clear. The onboard commands via the LCD screen could be a bit more user friendly though but it's not too bad.

Bought this to replace another Brother printer which worked flawlessly for a few years and was fantastic on ink. Only reason it needed replacing was essentially built in obsolescence, and a minor part replacement that is not end user friendly and would cost more to have done than a new machine! This printer set up in a flash, actually seems to have crisper printing than the older one, and I have no reason to believe it won’t be just as good.

My other Brother printer lasted me for 10 years plus and the only reason I had to change is because it quit talking to my computer and I didn't want to buy a cord to hook it up. It's my daughters now and still kicking. So Why would I purchase any other brand? Hook up was a breeze and spits out prints like a tobacco chewing fool!! Haven't tried to make photo prints yet so I'll have to update my review once I do. You go, guys!!!

The best home inkjet printer we've owned

We've had this printer for 5 months now and its been an excellent home office printer. Color and B&W print quality is excellent. It was easy to set-up. Best of all, the paper feeder works well and can even print on 2 sides. Previous printers by other well known brands have never been able to handle the paper feeding. This is the best we've had so far. We haven't tried to print quality photos on photo paper yet, but based on general home office use, this is a winner. I would definitely buy this printer again.

This is my second one of these. It's a great low cost home printer, low cost ink and works great. Downside is Protection Plan. My first one stopped scanning. I took it in and was told it what was considered a replacement item. Well they didn't have this or any other printers in stock at the time. I ended up ordering a new one on their web site to avoid trying to time when they were in stock at the store and the coming end of my policy. But again, no complaints at all about the printer.
