Fast, quiet, and 5-Syar brewing is noticeable. If you are really picky, then this is worth the price.

Bought coffee maker as a Christmas gift for wife. It looks pretty. It matches the rest of our large kitchen appliances. However, it does not make a hot cup of coffee. It is a shame you have to place your cup in a microwave to make it hot.I have the temperature set to 205 (max). The coffee temp after brewing is 106 degrees. To add insult to highway robbery the brew sprout on the machine leaks after you remove the coffee pot. this machine gets an A+ on looks. Unfortunately, it gets an F on functionality.

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to leave a review. So sorry to hear about your coffeemaker not brewing a hot enough cup of coffee, we're sure this would be frustrating. The temperature setting is based on the temperature of the water when they contact the coffee grounds. The temperature will be lower in the carafe at the end of the brew. Because of this, checking the temperature with a thermometer is not an accurate way to verify temperature. However, if your unit is not heating well at all, we'd recommend taking a look at the details of your warranty as seen on page 16 of your Use and Care manual, here: https://files.bbystatic.com/OBp33bUsk9y4yaYiDauG1A%3D%3D/Manual - We do hope this helps and that this is taken care of for you soon. -Michael@Cafe cafe_appliances

This coffee maker costs way more than I would normally spend. What extras does one get at this lofty price? Are there real improvements to form, function, and features? Are they worth it? Being a huge coffee drinker, I was curious to find out what would normally be well beyond my consideration for a drip machine. The first obvious difference is the look and feel, the style and materials used. If you purchased GE Café appliances, you can now coordinate your coffee maker to match. If your appliances are another brand/style as mine are, this is still a unique coffee maker that is sure to attract attention. The stainless matches my appliances and the copper accents add an elegant touch. It has me thinking maybe I should upgrade my faucet or cabinet handles to match? The materials are beautiful and robust. No flexing anywhere, nothing looks or feels cheap, or even ‘good enough’. Everything feels far better than needed to do the job for years of use. With a build quality this high, I expect this machine to last a very long time. Function and form really excel here. Fill the water reservoir all the way up, even if you’re only going to make a single cup. Only the number of cups you set on the control panel or app will brew. I’ve overfilled the reservoir on my lesser machine and had to tip the machine over to dump water a few times. So I can fully appreciate why this feature was added. You still need to add the appropriate number of coffee scoops to match your selection though. Any automation here on a machine where steam is generated on each use is sure to create a mess in addition to complexity, so this system seems best. After brewing even as full pot, nothing on the exterior of the machine gets hot to the touch. Not the carafe, not even the base where the carafe sits. Everything remains at room temp, yet the coffee remains hot inside the carafe for hours. I left 4 cups behind for nearly 3 hours just out of curiosity. When I poured a cup, hot steam rolled off as if it was just poured. The lid has a gate that closes when you put the pot down, which helps trap the heat. Most importantly, the coffee taste was still remarkably good. Some minor difference in taste, but not objectionable. This would not be the case in with a standard hot plate and glass carafe coffee maker. There are also some energy saving here by not keeping that plate hot. The carafe is perfect for entertaining. It has a foam circle on the base to prevent scratches. So you can take the carafe to your guests and place it on any countertop or even a fine wooden dining room table without fear of leaving a scratch or heat mark in the finish. No coaster needed. Just like a good thermos, the carafe does not transmit heat to the exterior. Like many medium and high end coffee makers, there is a water filter. The filter type is very common and used in many other coffee makers such as Keurig and Cuisinart and are readily available. The manual is a concise well written 14 pages. A quick and easy read. You will find on page 14 how to remove the very large showerhead that rains water over all of the coffee grounds. The big shower head makes a big difference in taste. A slight turn and pull is all it takes. Super easy to keep clean. The light grey color will reflect when a cleaning is needed. Great idea. My previous coffee maker’s showerheads did not come off and were awkward and difficult to clean, soaking it was impossible. The Basket Filter is heavy duty, very sturdy. The swivel handle will not does not bend or pop off like lesser units. Standard cone paper filters can also be used if desired. The no drip valve on the Brew Basket Inset works exceptionally well. I never had a drip, even when pouring a quick cup during a brew cycle. You will want to get the GE ‘SmartHQ’ App. It adds far more control and much easier programming of the Coffee Maker. Setting up the app is similar to setting up an Amazon Alexa device. You will need the password from the label on the back of the coffee maker, your Wi-Fi name and Password. You will also create an account at GE in the app which will require your email address and a secure password to be created. There is also SmartHQ Skill for Alexa that will let you control the Coffee Maker after you set the app up. Some features of the app are: • Scheduling a brew time is much easier in the app. You can set up to five 5 brew schedules total. A schedule can be repeated on multiple or every day. This can provide up to 35 programmed brews. Each of the five Brew Schedules also has its own unique brew settings. You can repeat a setting on different days at the same time, say M-F at 6 AM, another for 8 AM on Saturday and Sunday, and have three slots left, say for lunch or evening brews. Or have 5 schedules at Random times on set or repeating day. Be careful, the app will let you schedule simultaneous brews with different settings. • Not sure when you will wake up or how a guest may want their coffee? You can open the app, set the brew settings and start brewing at the touch of a button in the app before you roll out of bed. That was pretty impressive. Just be sure to add water and coffee beforehand. • On the Coffee Maker you can select from 5 temperatures between 185 - 205°F (in 5 degree increments). The app provides 20 settings, any temp in the 20°F temperature range. • You can start a descale brew. The app has step by step instructions with the water water/vinegar ratio if you forget and run a rinsing brew after. After a dozen or more brews, I found the coffee taste is very consistent between pots and really very good. Far better than my last pot ever provided. The ‘Gold’ setting works very well for most coffee I tried. The temp is locked at 200°F on this setting. You can adjust the temp on the other settings. Between adjusting brew strength and the temperature, you should be able to satisfy most any palate. Complaints are few and minor. They seem to have thought of most everything. The Basket Filter sits in a removable plastic Brew Basket Inset. The clips on the bottom of this inset hold it in a bit too tight. Pulling it out was difficult. I used more force that I felt was needed, I thought it might soddenly relapse and send the grounds flying. I was able to push up from the bottom where the no drip valve is. To fix the tabs, I gently pushed the plastic snaps in a few times to lessen their grip (didn’t want to overdo it) and I can now pull the basket out from the top. The tabs are sturdy, no worry about them breaking. Best to bend them when the basket is warm from a brew or soak it in a container of hot water a few minutes to get the plastic tabs pliable. A bit of minor adjustment made it right. But should one need to do this at this price point? A better locking mechanism at this price seems needed. The brew schedule will let you make mistakes. Such as scheduling multiple brews to take place on the same day and time (or within minutes of each other) with different brew settings. This can easily happen with multiple people in a home. Whose brew would win out? Would the currently running brew be stopped so the second one would run? Would the second wait and run after the first one? It’s probably a good thing the water reservoir doesn’t hold more water than the carafe. Before you create a new schedule, check the existing schedule day/times for conflicts. Technology will not save you here. At least not with the current firmware and app version on October 23, 2020. The app does not list the unit’s serial number or software version though there are places for that under Product Info menu. This goes for the Coffee Maker and also my GE Air conditioner which the app found. After I installed the app, the firmware on the Coffee Maker was updated, but there is nothing to tell you what version you had or now have in the app, its version zero. Getting all of the coffee of the coffee out of the pot is impossible, even with the pot held nearly upside down nearly an ounce remains. I have had seen this with other thermal carafes, so this is not unique. The last bit of coffee at the bottom would have any grounds that got through, so it may not be such a terrible thing. Inside the box the coffee pot the Coffee Maker is encapsulated in one large block of foam. While it will no doubt be effective at protecting the pot, it’s more foam than came in the box with my much more fragile and expensive laptop. While a beautiful box, presentation, and protection, this block of foam seems like extreme overkill in these environmentally sensitive times. As I mentions at the start, this machine is way more than I ever would have considered spending. I am now spoiled and will undoubtedly look for something similar and spend the extra money next time. Not just because of styling, the great feel from the high build quality, the extra features like extra options in the slick Wi-Fi app, or that the carafe keeps coffee drinkable for hours. But that this coffee maker also resolves the problems and annoyances I’ve dealt with for years. Lesser machines have needed a replacement far too often, such a waste. These problems included degrading appearance (yellowing plastics, worn hot plates and labels), broken parts, or a failure to function/heat properly. This is pricey compared to most. But if you’re the person who buys premium coffee in bags rather than cans or plastic tubs, you need this. This Coffee Maker will take full advantage of your coffee and give you what you’re paying for on every brew in those quality beans. Considering what quality beans cost over a year, this is worth it. Give it a try and I doubt you’ll want to return it.

Hi Zaidan, thanks for your review! If Gold strength is selected, you will not be able to select a
temperature. The Gold setting is a pre-set program that includes a select temperature. Do not use for high elevations (over 5000 feet). This coffee maker is regulated for temperatures between 185 and 205° F. It is recommended to brew between 195 to 205° F for best flavor extraction. For altitudes over 5000 feet, use 185° F to prevent water from boiling. - You can also check that the software is up-to-date through the SmartHQ app and attempt to unplug the coffee maker briefly and plug it back in. - If you continue to have issues with your water heating, please see page 16 of your Owner's Manual for your warranty details. We hope that this helps! Stay safe. -Michael cafe_appliances

Hi there! Thanks for reaching out. The markings on the water reservoir tank are 3 oz more than the water by design. The reason is, those 3 oz get absorbed in the coffee grounds. The tank is marked to provide the actual output to the cup. Hope this helps! -Michael@Cafe cafe_appliances
