Great game, but not the best option...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this for my bf, along with a new PS4 console and a PSPlus Membership(for online play). Unless I have done something wrong, I now understand that since I did not buy some kind of add on for the game (not brought to my attention at time of purchase), my bf cannot access certain character customization features in the game, i.e. facepaint, etc. So, overall I am pleased with the purchase. He plays it constantly. But, if you are interested, make sure you research available add ons that you might find worth it.

TREYARCH = ZOMBIES = BEST REASON TO BUY
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.MY TITLE SAYS IT ALL, THE SOLE REASON I PURCHASE "C.O.D." YEAR AFTER YEAR IS FOR ITS CONTINUING ITERATIONS/VERSIONS OF ZOMBIES. TREYARCH HAS ALWAYS BEEN AHEAD IN THIS ARENA (NOT MY OPINION, ACTUAL FACT). ULTIMATELY, THERE ARE FOUR REASONS TO PURCHASE THIS GAME...1) DR. RICHTOFEN 2) DEMPSEY 3) TAKEO 4) NIKOLAI

Terrific return to form for the COD franchise
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'd personally say aside from Black Ops 3, that the COD franchise has definitely suffered from a lack of quality and innovation since 2013 when the game COD: Ghosts was released. Black Ops 4 brings me back to what was so fun about the older games; Fun and rewarding multiplayer (with new mechanics introduced such as the manual healing system), another zombies iteration with a brand new story to tell and 3 maps to play from the start, and Treyarch's version of a battle royale mode, called Blackout. Overall, aside from the very annoying bugs that continue to plague the COD franchise at every launch such as server issues and crashes (which have been for the most part fixed by the time of the posting of this review), this is a very worthwhile addition in the franchise.

Awesome but requires Commitment
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This definitely shouldn't be your first "Call of Duty" game, unless you're super into the "Battle Royale" game style and just want to dive into that. Otherwise, this is definitely the latest in a long line of games, and it has a ton of interesting tweaks, but also they got rid of a lot of things that could be seen as more immediately "accessible". This is definitely that sort of permanently online, collection-oriented kind of game. There's no real single player, just some expanded training tutorials for each "character", and then all the Zombies stuff. It's all super detailed and amazing, it's just that you need to play a lot to unlock a LOT of the game. Starting out, in regular multiplayer, you can only pick a "character" and from a stock set of loadouts. Each "character" comes with their 3 "abilities", which 1 of them is just a health boost, for everyone. So everyone really only has 2 unique "abilities". The more "kills" you get, the faster the base "ability" will reload, and then eventually your enhanced "ability" will be available. There's also noticeable speed differences between characters and loadouts, which has things lean a little bit like an "Overwatch" style of game, but still "Call of Duty". After 5 or 10 level-ups in regular multiplayer, you get to make your own loadouts, and then you start unlocking new weapons, and then you have to play with each weapon to unlock new attachments for it. So if you want a silencer on a pistol, you have to get a bunch of pistol "kills" first. So it forces you to use the weapons that you want to upgrade, instead of some of the previous games that just gave you blanket upgrades to unlock and attach. So it's pushing you more into the RPG style of having to train/practice in the skill that you want to be "better" at, by unlocking more features of just that skill. So, overall, it's an awesome new "Call of Duty" game -- as should be expected -- but it really focuses on the long term commitment as opposed to just being a modern mashup of Unreal Tournament and Goldeneye. It's still casual enough to be accessible, but it really does feel like it needs at least a 5 or 10 hour commitment up front to unlock enough stuff that you can then move forward just casually jumping in and out of a few matches here and there -- if that's your play style. And personally, I find the "Blackout" ("Battle Royale" / "Fortnight") style games super boring. There's such a weird mix of "Call of Duty" and Hide-and-Seek and some kind of bizarre tactical aspect to it that I really don't understand. I'm sure it'd be better with a team/group playing together and talking and coordinating, but the whole concept to me is just confusing and seems so boring. I've tried it a couple times, but either I lasted way to long by just sitting in a bathroom looking out a window, or I lost immediately being shot in the back. I'm not here for "Counter Strike" chess precision, I'm here for distracting explosions and hyperactive sounds and colors.

Great overall game
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good game modes. Zombies has three maps and three modes which are custom mode, classic mode, and multiplayer vs mode like bo2 called rush. The battle royal is fun and i like it alot. You can use vehicles and also kill zombies incertain maps. The multiplayer is as good as it always is. Really good maps and multiple modes. If you like cod you will like this. If you were tired of cod you wont like this. Also no simgle campaign and of you do not have internet i would not recommend as all modes are for online only. You can play local multiplayer or add bots but it will grow old quickly.

Hard to get into
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Black Ops 4 just doesn't' grab me the same was 3 or 2 did back in their days. The gameplay is smooth as you'd expect from Treyarch, and I can't knock it on performance. I like how they streamlined the multiplayer playlists, I like how seamless and snappy the menus are. Heist is a standout mode. But the early gear is possibly the worst in the franchise, and the later you wait to start playing, the worse it will be for you. I already see higher level players stomping around because it takes a few hours to get a competitive set of weapons and perks. I'm not a big fan of Blackout. It's not for me, BR in general really isn't for me. But what I have played felt pretty polished and worth a look if you're a fan of the mode. I can't say what really makes it standout against PUBG or Fortnite outside the Call of Duty packaging. Zombies is as stellar as ever. It feels harder to get going, and the easter eggs are brutal. But the mode is still a fun time waster for running and gunning with friends. Blood of the Dead is an amazing map. But if you don't have a team to play with, it'll be a short lived mode.

Get Ready, The Rebirth of Call of Duty!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had doubts on getting this at first. Had some money laying around and decided to risk on buying it. I was dissapointed at first. Started to play and met new people who quickly became my new friends. Game is amazing. Lots of co-op action. I don't recommend this game if you're going alone. I rec. multiplayer and grabbing some teammates for the fight! Great game, great content. Zombies, Multiplayer, Blackout, and Trials!

Disappointed
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would have rather had MW2 remastered... your paying full price for a game with no campaign so online is your only option pretty much which will be an additional cost, most the maps are just recycled from other call of duty games but with a new texture. The way the characters work in this black ops is also upsetting for example, in some game modes there is only one specialist per team meaning if you like a certain character and someone picks them first your out of luck and have to race to pick them the next game. The highlight of this game would have to be the new blackout mode and zombies for some. Blackout is a complete new mode which is similar to fortnite but better in my opinion and it makes this game feel a little more fresh for the call of duty franchise but it’s not enough to make me tell everyone to buy this game. Thank goodness my game club was still active from Best Buy or I would be even more disappointed from paying full price. The graphics are great and gamplay is easy to pick up but if you own any other call of duty game i would just save your money unless you see an amazing sale for this game.

Great game with interesting game modes
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: - Standard multiplayer modes are fun and maps are interesting - Blackout battle-royale-style mode is a lot of fun and very polished - Zombies can be fun with a group of friends - Graphics and frame rate are great, even on non-Pro PS4 - Can play multiplayer maps solo with bots to learn maps and weapons Cons: - No single player besides zombies, but zombies is largely boring when playing solo

One of the best COD titles I've played in years
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a longtime standing critic of this game (well over a decade) this Call of Duty title rubs me the right way. First, Treyarch constantly releases updates but can't please everybody. Some things like the 9bang do need to be nerfed, but narrowing down on anything specific might change in the future should the developers decide on making it so. The multiplayer portion of the game is boots on the ground but with sliding. As with Black Ops 3, you should probably be using a controller with paddles, because aiming while jumping or sliding is essential in this game. Some killstreaks are over the top in how broken it may seem, but again, that might change after this time of writing. Blackout is the main course that most people are showing up for and IMO its the best military style BR game out right now. It's polished, the map is excellent, you can pick up perks, and gunfights are intense. Winning here is beyond satisfying and that's why this was seen as a selling point that needed to be added. I haven't tried zombies yet, don't want to say anything about it unless I've tried it first hand. All in all, Treyarch's response to problems is getting handled well, I like it, and it feels like classic Call of Duty to me which is why I continue to play it. I recommend it.
