Exactly What I Was Looking For

A really useful and innovative product - solves home security & monitoring in a simple-to-use device. Everything is controlled via smartphone. Very easy to set up. High quality device & very impressive app. I bought a Canary after seeing it in use in this reddit post which caught a live burglary: https://www.reddit.com/r/nyc/comments/3kyoev/caught_on_my_canary_camera_watch_these_two_guys/ Been using the device since the weekend and I'm very impressed. Fits a huge hole for someone looking for some sort of home security device, but aren't interested in the large traditional systems where you need to punch a code in or the alarm sounds. By far the smartphone integration is the best feature - the device is controlled exclusively through the app (I use an android) - you can log in to check out your timeline, take a look at the live camera from anywhere, and even sound the alarm remotely. The device is intelligent and notifies you of any activity when you'ren't there through your cell phone, like a text message, delivering the video. Very responsive - I tested this out by arming the device and then entering the front door - I received an alert exactly 13 seconds later (!!!! @@@@@@@ . Huge plus is the lack of a monthly subscription fee. I'm exhausted by subscriptions recently - Netflix, MLB, Google Apps, portfolio software - so this is a plus from the consumer standpoint. Back to why I didn't want to sign up with traditional security. Set up was very easy - literally plug and play. Downloading the app leads you to a brief registration phase, and then connect the Canary device to your smartphone via cable. The phone updates the firmware for the Canary, connects the Canary to your wifi, and then links your account and you're good to go. I found a spot in my living room where I could hide the Canary behind a few candles - a few moments later and you're recording live video of the entire room. Video quality is bright & easy to see - looks like a high-quality Youtube video. Clicking on "live feed" brings up what the device is currently seeing - looks like there is about a 10-second lag between the Canary uploading the video and it relaying to your phone. There appear to be three modes - privacy, disarmed, and armed. Arming the device happens with a click on the app. I tested the device over the weekend - left my house to mow the lawn, then armed the device. "Broke" into the the house and 13 seconds later and I get a buzz - activity detected. I watch the video and of course it's me. The response time - 13 seconds between opening the door and my phone buzzing - is very impressive. The video is stored online after recording, so if an intruder covers up or breaks the device, it's too late - the image of them doing so is recorded off into the cloud for easy retrieval. I suppose the only thing that I'm worried about is that my pets (two cats) will set the device off early and often. Reading through the FAQs, there is a "learning" capability in the system, in that it recognizes routine behavior in time and adjusts for it. It's not clear to me how long this takes. Overall, I like it a lot. Definitely a useful product. Fits a need for me - I'm not really interested in a large security system, and the costs/fees associated with it, and for basic entry detection the Canary device is really cool. In summary, the video monitoring is simple & doesn't require a lot of setup or user input. High video quality. The motion sensor definitely picked me up easily when I entered the house, and I received a notice literally 13 seconds later. Connectivity to my phone is the most impressive part of the experience - if I have my cell phone on me 24/7 I can connect at any time to what is going on in my house.

Our House Was Robbed While Canary Was Watching

DO NOT USE THIS SECURITY SERVICE. We have a Canary and our house was robbed last week. We never got an alert, and while the Canary captured the dudes ransacking our house for over 5 minutes, it never registered that anything was amiss. We are supposed to be alerted when there is activity in the house while we're not home, but in looking into later, we discovered that Canary, due to some mysterious malfunction, never recorded us as being absent. The Device was stuck in Home Mode, even when we had left. Our phones were with us. To make matters so much worse, Canary Customer Service has been difficult to get into contact with, and they refuse to speak with us over the phone. They will only communicate with us through emails, and online chat. They believe our Wifi isn't good enough. We told them our wifi is fine, and works perfectly for all other devices, and we've a lot, my husband works from home and requires fast internet speed. They then asked us to do our own troubleshooting, and provide them with a Wifi Speed test. When we provided it, customer service told us "Well that's what it is now, but we don't know what it was when your house was robbed." !!!! What?!!! Then why did you ask us for the test? Last email we received from Customer Service says that they are passing on the complaint to the product team, and "if we could help you, we would." Yes, you could help us. You could follow through with your products promise of protection, take accountability for the major failure, step up your customer service game, and make it right with us. On top of having our house horribly ransacked, the stress of dealing with Canary has been overwhelming. Police officer recommended a few other devices, like SimpleSafe and Frontpoint. Canary was not on his list. Other Canary users we've been in contact with have reported same Home Mode malfunction.

    Great Design, Disappointing Execution

For TL;DR, scroll to the bottom. As you are most likely doing right now, I too read all the reviews for this product and many others trying to figure out which DIY security option was best for me. I picked up a Canary and have spent a few days with it so far, and as much as I want to like this product, I simply can't. When I opened the box, I was met with what appeared to be a very well designed and presented product that appealed to the design and aesthetics of an Apple fan. Though, this hasn't been quite the experience I was hoping for with the Canary. Starting with the initial setup using the iOS application, which is touted as only taking mere minutes and being fairly seamless, I had a difficult time even updating my Canary using the instructions they provided. After getting stuck on several steps just waiting for the Canary to update, I was forced to reset the system a few times before it finally updated and I was able to complete the setup process to make it ready for use. All in all, probably an hour of setup time with the errors I encountered. After I setup the system, I left my house and the Canary did in fact auto-arm as it states it should. I received a couple of notifications while out where the Canary noticed my dog moving about. Dismissed them, thinking it was cool that it alerted me. Though once I got home, I did notice that the video feed even with my fairly robust broadband connection was about 30 seconds behind what was happening in reality. Not ideal, but I don't know what's par for the course, so I ignored it for the moment. Fast forward to the next morning. Grab my phone, open the Canary app, and Canary is offline... Curious, I thought. Reload the app to make sure, now it simply says, Unable to connect at this time. So I head to where the Canary is placed and there are no lights on it at all. Power cycle it. Same problem. Power cycle again, now it appears to be working. This kind of inconsistency right off the bat has me worried about my $250 investment. I need a security system that I can be confident in. One that works, and works well. What good is a system that goes offline or just stops working and never notifies me? Isn't the whole point of Canary to keep me in the know? I'm disappointed in this product and the fact that they have no live support and an abysmal knowledge base for troubleshooting that I found zero help with using. Couple that with a buggy app, and you've got a recipe for a frustrated user. I've outlined the pros and cons below, and I plan to return my Canary in hopes of finding a more reliable solution. I would not recommend this product based on my experience. Pros: - Nice aesthetics both physically as well as in the iOS app - When it works, the video is crisp and the audio is loud enough Cons: - Setup was anything but simple, very buggy - Going offline or not connecting and no notifications - Live video is very inconsistent, works sometimes and not others - As much as 30 second delay on live feed - No live support and terribly void help center online - No automation integration with other smart-home products - No way to remove locations from the app if you accidentally add one - Very buggy app in general on iOS in my experience - Several times the Canary simply stated "Failed to Arm" in-app and never notified me - No way to "reset" the system to factory settings that I can find - Can't connect to 5GHZ WiFi networks it would appear - No way to set custom modes, such as vacation, times of day, etc. - No two-way communication like some other comparable systems - No auto-alarm to sound the siren, must be done manually - Multiple failures when trying to "changes modes" - No iPad app

I bought a Canary around 4 weeks ago and have been using it ever since. The first thing I will say is that the setup/installation of the Canary device was by far, the most user-friendly experience of any installation that I have ever performed. It was as simple as signing up for an account, connecting a yellow 2.5mm cable to my phone and setting the Canary to connect to the internet. Kudos to Canary for making a device that anyone and everyone can configure so easily!! One of the most important aspects of the canary is the video. All I can say is that they weren't exaggerating about how amazing the video quality looks and how wide the camera angle is. For me to set this up in my home, I had to put it in my basement to watch the door that goes outside and the door going to the garage. With strategic placement of the Canary device, I am also able to see the stairs going up to the main floor and this is very convenient to see all at once, with only one device. The results are that I can see when my dog goes upstairs/downstairs and all the action that happens in between. I am also able to see anybody that walks in from the outside or garage as well. It has a sensor that will turn on when it detects movement, which is very reassuring. Another impressive thing worth noting is that at night, I can very clearly see when my dog walks around in the basement, even when the lights are turned off. The night vision works as well as Canary claims. The sound is clear and crisp, for example, when my dog goes downstairs, I can hear her collar making noise, so not only does the Canary provide exceptional video, but it also provides great sound to go with it. I haven't talked about the design yet, which is sleek and well thought out from the size to the shape - it literally looks like a little speaker or maybe an air freshener. It blends right into the decor and doesn't stand out as a camera. It's funny because it looks like it belongs exactly where I have it. It doesn't look like a security device in any shape or form. The siren is loud (as it should be to scare off potential intruders/criminals) and works well. I don't use the alarm when the dog is in the house, but thanks to the app, when I go out with my dog, it only takes 30 seconds to turn on the siren feature through the app. The Home Health technology is a nice touch and it reports on temperature, humidity and air quality. I can confirm that the temperature and humidity levels are accurate because I also have a weather device next to my Canary device to measure the accuracy of how well it reads the temperature and humidity. Since I have only had the device for 1 month, I am still baselining the air quality in the basement. The last thing I want to talk about is the app that controls the device. The app works great, displays the videos in high quality and is fast. Canary really did an excellent job on the app. The one disappointing thing for me that is currently missing is an app for Windows devices. I am personally a Microsoft Windows consumer who uses a Windows Phone, computer and tablet. I do have an iPhone too and that is what I am using to control and view the videos on the canary at the moment, but I really hope Canary will develop an app for Windows in the near future. I am going on vacation shortly and I can't wait to turn on the siren and check daily or wait until I get a notification that Canary sensed something, so that I can get the complete user experience for this amazing product.

My house was burglarized and Canary did nothing.

Let me start by saying that this is my first ever negative product review. I have never been so disappointed by both a product's functionality and the poor customer service offered to me after the incident as I am from Canary. I was notified by my neighbor that my home was broken into while my fiance and I were out of the country. The thieves broke our bedroom window and stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry and electronics from our home. Upon receiving this information from my neighbor, I immediately checked our Canary camera footage to see if it had caught the burglars on camera. It did in fact record a portion of the burglary, which, according to the footage, actually occurred over 10 days before - on the night we left for our trip. I never received a single notification that there was a person (in fact, at least 2 people) in our home. Both my fiance and I have the Canary app, and both of our phones were with us in South America and on data plans. The camera was in Away mode and set to record people AND to notify us of any such movement. The fact that neither of us received a notification is frankly infuriating. Had we known about the burglary earlier, we could have perhaps caught the criminals in the act, or at least have had a better chance of getting our belongings back before they inevitably sold them. Also, it took me 4 days of attempts just to download my security footage of the burglars from the app to give to the police. When I contacted Canary support to ask why I a) had not received a notification that my house was being burglarized and b) could not download the footage, they skipped right over the notification issue and instructed me to delete and redownload the app in order to download the footage. When I asked them AGAIN why I had not received a security breach notification, they coldly referred me to a pre-written HELP page on their website. Oh, and they refused to allow me to contact them in any format other than their support email. I purchased my Canary cam in an effort to feel more secure in my home. This event proves that the use of the camera is not able to provide the service it is intended for. In addition, their support team was completely unhelpful and unapologetic. I am wholeheartedly disappointed. Save your money, buy a NEST system. $20,000 in stolen items later, my Canary is going straight in the trash.

Not happy and Best Buy should stop stocking and selling this product! I am not satisfied with this product at all! There are definitely better products on the product for a similar price, or acceptable products on the market for a lower price. My first item was defective and had to return it, and my second device still does not work very well. The WIFI aspect of the unit does not work, and after several hours on WIFI the unit goes offline...therefore I have to keep it plugged into Ethernet, so I am limited as to where I can place the device. Additionally, the device is terrible at recognizing when I leave and arrive home, forcing me to be constantly manually changing between home and away mode throughout the day. Even those these 2 things made me very disappointed with the product, I still liked the fact that it provided me with security of knowing what is going on at home...until now. Canary recently updated their 'plan' so I can no longer view full videos, but only a 10 second preview of 'activity' in my home unless I buy the membership...therefore I can no longer use this device for home security because the video will not show anything without the membership. I will not be paying a $10/month membership on top of the camera I purchased for this poor device. Since I have had the camera for a few months, and since Canary will no longer give free full access to activity detected videos for 24 hours, I will no longer use this product and my Canary will become an expensive and disappointing paper weight...I will also refuse to do business with this company in the future. When I purchased this product their policy was to give full access to videos for 24 hours without a membership, now my canary is virtually useless without the membership...would like to hear back from Canary regarding this policy change as to why they can take the full videos away and I am sure many other people who currently have the product and not the membership are also very upset at Canary.

I am so happy to have the Canary in my home. I feel so much safer and I have found that it works extremely well. It learns over time how people in the house come and go and the movement in the house, so the many alerts in the beginning decrease as you interact with the app by flagging video's and alerting the app that everything is fine. The camera is very sensitive so at first my cat was setting off the alerts like CRAZY! I was very impressed that it picked up such small movement! Since working with the app though, those alerts have slowed and I don't get 10 alerts during the night from my cat running around like crazy. The set-up was very easy and quick. I had it set up in less than 5 minutes. Once I set my location it also set emergency numbers which were my local police department, emergency medical services and the fire department! I was very grateful for that! You can also add the members in your home by clicking the plus in the app next to your picture and sending them an invite. Another great feature is that you can watch live what's going on in your home. So say you do get an alert and want to know what's happening, click Watch Live and there it is. I noticed a slight time lag, but I expected that. It is only a few second lag as to what's happening at the moment. The camera is a 1080p HD camera with a 147? angle lens and has night vision and motion detection. The camera quality is quite impressive for the small device that it is (6 inches high, 3 inches around). Along with a great camera it has a high quality microphone and a built in speaker. There is a 90+ dB siren as well that you can set off from the app. The Canary also tells you the temperature, humidity and air quality of your home, which I find pretty useful. I am glad to know the air quality in my home is very good and know when to turn on my AC because it is getting humid in the house. I am so happy they have come up with a security system for those of us who live in apartments! I am a worrier and this has helped give me peace of mind with no monthly fee's! It is very affordable and so worth my family's safety. @@@@@ I received this product free for testing and review purposes. All opinions are 100% my own.

      Canary

Hi Maggie, I’m sorry that you are disappointed with the recent service changes. I do want to clarify that Canary users who don't opt in to Membership still have access to the core set of Canary features that includes: notifications when motion is detected (as well as customizable HomeHealth notifications for temperature, humidity, and air quality deviations), the ability to Watch Live anytime (day or night—with automatic night vision), recorded video clips that are stored for 24 hours, activity zone masking, remote siren activation, one-touch access to police/fire/EMS, automatic arming/disarming, and more. The recent changes to the amount of video recording on our free plan aligns with the cost to process and store this video. What we offer is still more than what you get with most products in this category—many of which don’t offer any video recording without a subscription. Canary Membership is optional and enables additional features such as longer video clips, extended storage, desktop streaming, etc. (You can find more information about Membership here: https://canary.is/membership — and If you'd like to try it at a discount here’s a code for 25% off an annual plan: you can go into the plan signup, at my.canary.is, input your info and use this code: “annualoffer".) Please know that changes to our free service were carefully considered based on user needs and preferences, while also addressing the costs to provide a free option. Since we first launched Canary we have continuously updated the product experience with new features and improvements and will continue to do so for all users. Thanks for taking the time to comment. All the best, - Jon @ Canary CanaryCo

DO NOT BUY! Canary have worked well for awhile but when they switched free subscription plan, USELESS! With the free plan, it will ONLY record 10 seconds of video. If you are home, you will not have an option to record your video. So, if you are home and someone breaks into your home and you are violently attacked, the camera will turn the blind eye and will NOT record anything. ME: If you are in away OR in Night mode, the camera only records 12 second with free subscription. @@@@@@@@ Free is not free because we purchased over $1400 worth of canary BEFORE you made the free subscription changes. @@@@@@@ Please explain CANARY: If your Canary is in Away mode, it will continuously look for motion. Once it detect motion it will record the first 10 seconds of significant motion and save them to your Timeline. The Canary will only record the first 10 seconds of signification motion for every 10 minutes of continuous motion. On the free plan you will not be able to schedule a Night mode but you can set your Home mode to have the Watch Live feature. ME: You cannot record any video if you are in home mode if you have the degraded subscription. Example: if my father in law is at home and he gets robbed (or violently attacked during the day while he is home, the camera will not pick up any video unless you have paid for a subscription? I tried to have it set to record while in home mode and it will not allow us too. . so that makes the camera useless unless you have a subscription? Please explain CANARY: That is correct, on home mode you will have the option to set your Canary to private or have the Watch Live feature on. This will allow you to view what is going on in your home but it will not record that motion. Canary started out great and they went downhill after their third year of this product. I would recommend NEST Cam over Canary.

My girlfriend got one of the first Canary systems and I've come to really like it. I studied electrical engineering, so I'm a little bit wary of early versions of a consumer electronics product, but the Canary has made a great impression on me so far. We live in an apartment building with a lot of other tenants in New York, so it's reassuring to know when we're not at home that we'll be notified should anyone ever try to enter the apartment. Whenever both of us have left home, it auto-arms, which means that it records any type of motion or unusual occurrence, and sends an alert to the app on our phones. Knowing that we'd be notified should anything be amiss at home was good when we traveled recently, along with the "Watch Live" feature that lets us check in at home at any time. I also rather like the design of it. It sits on a shelf close to the entrance which reflects the yellow glow when it's in disarmed mode. Once international shipping opens I want to get my sister in Spain one!

Just recently purchased Canary. I have heard a lot of good things on other review sites and in the news so I thought i'd give it a try. I can't stop raving about this little device. Here's my take. Packaging - very Apple-esque. Simplistic, modern, straight forward. couldn't have been better. The device blends in with almost any decor, looks and feels very sturdy, and can be placed discretely. Installation - Could not have been any easier. Had the unit up and running in just a few minutes. No busy manual to read. Just download the free iphone app and it walks you through all the steps. From setting up your canary account to hooking up to your WiFi network, to adding additional members....this couldn't be more simple. even my parents found it very easy to follow. which brings me to the added benefit of this. its simple set up is great for parents or the technically naive. User interface - very slick and easy to follow. The device works just as advertised. It allows me to monitor my home while I am away. Allows me to alarm and disarm as needed and watch my home as needed. I have the option of remotely sounding the alarm or deactivating. Best part, I can add additional family members to the device so that it can automatically deactivate when they come home. I have had ADT in the past and although, it provides a monitored service (I was told that this is/will be an option with Canary as well), I don't have ridiculous fees to pay each month. Plus, any video surveillance add on for ADT is so much more expensive. With Canary, I can a add a few to cover different parts of my home. No need for hard wiring! One of the best features is it can be used as a nanny cam. many nanny cams from the babies store are limited in its functions, expensive, or limited on its channels for use. this works perfect as a nanny cam. and since it is so small, I can take it to the grandparents and still be watching them when I need to. Overall, a great smart security device without the hassle of hard wiring or monthly costs!

I was excited to have such a sleek device set up for my smart home security system. Canary has let me down time and time again, they tout that you can add members so that your dog walker, family members, etc can come by and turn off Canary if they need to. What isnt mentioned is that they have full access to your camera at any time. There's no permission control for guests, they're basically seen as admins. They haven't added useful new features, HomeKit support has not been implemented even though it is now able to be added using software authentication. The other thing that they just did is took away most of the perks from free accounts. If you purchase this device, the only video you'll be able to replay is 10 second previews unless you fork over some cash. Would you like to set it up to switch to Night Mode every night at midnight? It used to be free but now that'll be $120/year. Just to have it switch from Home mode to Night mode on a schedule.

We love our Canary! We purchased it about a month ago and set it up right away. The setup was very easy and we were up and running in no time. And then three weeks after it was installed, we were robbed. Three men broke into our home while we were away. The Canary did its job and captured their every word and movement. I contacted the police as well as Canary Support. The Canary Rep was wonderful. They were very sympathetic to our situation and walked us through bookmarking and downloading the footage (we wanted to make sure we didn't screw something up during the process). The police arrived and we showed them the footage. They were impressed to say the least. The quality of the image as well as the audio was beyond their expectations for a home security camera. THANK YOU Canary! The robbers were arrested that night! Because of the quality video of your product, police had no problem identifying and charging these thugs with felony charges. We could not be happier with our decision to purchase a Canary! Thank You So Much. - a customer for life, Tony (Michigan, USA @@@@@@@

Simple and effective home security system

    Posted
    JCC1

I got my Canary several months ago. My wife and I moved from a house with an integrated security system to a new home with no security system. I wanted something that was simple and with no long term monitoring contract, which was the case with the integrated security system at the old house. I looked at multiple systems, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. As is the case with most reviews, each system had its mix of good and bad reviews, so it was difficult to decide which way to go. I liked the simplistic, non-obtrusive look of the Canary. Setup was simple and easy. It connected to my wireless network without difficulty. The iOS app also worked flawlessly. Initially, I did have some issues with false alarms associated with the transition from infrared night vision to camera day vision, but with the firmware updates, this has resolved. I had to position the device so that it did not alarm due to the motion of my ceiling fan, but this hasn't been a big issue and I hope this will be fixed soon. My wife and I like the automatic arming and disarming feature when we leave or return home. I've been impressed with the quality of the camera on the device, especially the infrared images. We can be gone from the house for up to a couple weeks at a time and I enjoy being able to check on the house periodically while I'm away. I like the ability to monitor the temperature and air quality in the house as well. The Canary is perfect for this. Given the other options for a simple and effective home security system at a reasonable cost and no mandatory long term monitoring contracts, the Canary is one of the best ones that I've found. I'm pleased with it and would highly recommend it.

Very disappointed in the camera, app, and services

I bought this item a little over 6 months ago. Ever since having it, the app had difficulties and often would not pick up when I was home and when I left. But now, it has now been rendered useless as of this month. A few weeks ago, Canary decided to revoke all of it's previously free features. Now, you are only able to have video recorded while in away mode, and it will only be a 10 second clip. AKA, if someone would break into your house, you would only have a 10 second clip. They also removed night mode, which could previously be scheduled to kick on at night. I bought this with the understanding of what features came with the canary and what would be included if I paid for the subscription, and they did not honor what they originally stated. Now, I no longer care to have it, because I wanted something that would record both while away and at night. And even more, a video that would capture the entire event, not just walking past the camera once! I will be purchasing a different security camera now. I'm hoping that you will consider a different camera so that you don't have the same problems later.

    Great Family Device

We love our new Canary! On top of giving us peace of mind when we leave the home, it's become a great way to spy on our adorable dog when we're at work. Because it's motion activated, any time the dog moves past or within range of it's wide sensors (and presumably if a thief entered our apartment) it sends a notification to your phone via the app. Additionally, you can use the "Watch Live" feature if you simply want to watch your dog/cat/child/spouse while they are at home and you're not. It's also got an elegant, sleek design that can easily blend into a bookshelf. Some features I especially appreciate: the app sensing when I am "at home" and "away," for automated arming and disarming of the Canary; air quality & temperature monitors; being able to bookmark and comment on recorded video clips; and installation ease-- literally took us only 15 minutes! In short: I highly recommend this as a product to renters and/or homeowners who want a cost-effective, simple way to secure their homes, with the added benefit of being able to connect to your family when you're away.

    Good camera works well

I just downloaded the new app available this week, 03/11/2017. No issues with it as of yet. I have had the camera 2 plus years. It works well at night in the dark in the house. Its color is black and white at night. It clearly shows my dog walking around at night in low light and in the dark.During the day it is in full rich color and is beautiful. It time stamps all activity and captures movement only so it is not showing long periods of a still room. The ceiling fans don't trip it on. The inferred beam against a window close to it will cause a whiteout and no pic due to the reflection. So It won't show outside pictures at night thru a window close to the camera. This is an indoor-only camera. It works well with the home wifi which we have set up in another room. I have had no trouble contacting the camera when I am out of state using the original App. We have it sitting among our stereo and TV equipment and appears to be part of that system. The black was chosen so it blends in with our setting. It was easy to set up. Plug it in the wall, download the app. Enter your wifi password and the info the app wants for security and you are up and running. You can add cameras from the app easily. The picture can be expanded or compressed by pinching your smartphone screen. It has a very wide angle and is a great camera system. It captures our family room, dining area, and part of the kitchen with no problem recognizing people in all those rooms. We have an open floor plan looking about 40 feet long.

Great concept for home security device. Major Fail as far as my confidence. 1. The sales guy at Best Buy promised a month free trial of full membership with access to the past 30 days recordings. I think I got 2 1/2 weeks or something not the month. Didn't really matter because of my next point. 2. The simple set up right out of the box was not simple due to poorly written instructions and device malfunctions. After the fifth call to Canary' help desk (which has been farmed out to another company so isn't staffed by Canary personnel) the lil birdie spit and choked and came to life. 3. At least 10 times in the past three weeks I've come home to an offline device. Calls to support explained the issues were from server failures. Okay thanks for the apology but my home security camera can't record so their server trouble equals my unprotected home. 4. That silly thing had a habit of activating itself when it wanted to regardless of privacy settings and "Do Not Record" situations. And No I did not set the controls incorrectly! 5. AND HERE IS THE BIG REASON I DECUDED CANARY WAS DEAD IN THIS MINE: Canary provided no garunteed of privacy and has the right to watch my home security footage any time they like with no permission needed. The Box said nothing regarding my privacy or their rights to watch my families activities.

Feeling Safe Is So Easy With Canary!

Obviously, the best thing about Canary is that it helps me keep an eye on my home, my belongings, and my family, allowing me to feel safe and protected. Beyond that, in one word, my favorite thing about my Canary is "simplicity." The Canary comes with a handy and comprehensive little booklet that walks you through the entire set up process. After set up, the Canary is so simple to use and so seamlessly gives me peace of mind. At the end of the day, I like to scroll through the day's Timeline to see what activity my Canary has recorded - and there's no fee associated with recording or viewing videos for up to a week! In addition, I love the aesthetics of this wonderful device. The Canary's design is sleek, clean, and modern, which I really appreciate, and the color options (black, white, and silver) can allow all the rooms in my home to benefit from the security of a Canary without it clashing with any of my decor. Rounding out my favorite features of the Canary has to be the HomeHealth technology. I don't have a thermostat, so this function gives me the ability to check the temperature, humidity, and air quality with just a couple of taps. Amazing! Thank you, Canary, for helping me take care of my home, looking over my belongings, not needing a complicated set up, and for doing it all in style!

My daughter originally purchased a Canary on the recommendation of a friend who sets up security for companies after her home was burglarized during the day and she needed something she could set up immediately. After seeing how hers worked, I purchased one for our home. It was incredibly easy to set up with my iPhone 6 and worked well while we were on vacation for two weeks, the only issue was when a power outage occurred and the unit went offline. Frankly, for that reason and also that the unit would not need to be placed near an outlet, I would have liked a battery operated unit. The unit will send an alert to your phone when it detects motion and you can also watch a live feed from your phone whenever you choose. I purchased the black one with the thought that it would be less visible, however, when the unit is on, there is a green light that is hard to miss when it is activated, so if you plan on using this as a "nanny cam" that is something to be aware of. You have the option of activating an alarm on the unit from your phone, which is really quite loud, or you can place a 911 call if needed. The Canary also has features that will monitor air quality in your home, but I have not used that. All in all, this is nice option if you want some peace of mind without paying monthly fees and you want something that is easy to use and set up.
