    Small footprint, no need to keep adjusting your IP or WiFi to keep it connected like some cameras. I also like the Environmental features as well as having the possibility of a homeowners insurance discount isn't bad either. The Major drawbacks are, 1- If you want an extended video preview that dates back weeks, months you gotta pay. If you get a message stating that activity is detected go ahead and view it then, don't wait. 2- This thing comes with some kinda night light, I kid you not. If you intend to be covert with your camera this kinda destroys that idea. I hope there is a way to get night vision video with out the light!

    I have been reading about the Canary Security system for awhile. I was reading the Best Buy Ad and decided I would drive down and look at the all in one wireless security system. I looked at it and asked questions about the system to the sales person at best buy. I then purchased the unit and brought it home. I am old school and I am not too technical savy. I was able to set it up and Pair it with my phone my wifes phone and my nephews all well under an hour. we have had it now for around three weeks. I could not be more pleased the unit satisfied our security needs and suited our budget.

    This thing does exactly what it needs to do. The video quality is really good. The night vision is exceptionally good. My only complaint is the setup process was horrible. You have to plug in some audio cable into your phone to set the thing up. And it just wasn't working with my phone. I tried a different phone and it also wasn't working. Eventually I dug out my phone from about 4 years ago and try that and eventually I got it to work. I really think they should work on this issue because pretty much thats the only problem. But once you get it up and running it's a really great product.

    Canary was good security camera before the recent update. The recent update took away existing features and now Canary is basically useless without the paid membership. The best selling point for Canary the ability to have decent security system without paid membership, but now that it is gone, it is basically worthless. Better off buying other camera from bigger/more reliable companies. Who knows what features they'll take away next with the next update?

    I realized I needed some front door surveillance as I was getting ready to leave town. I needed a system that could watch the front door and notify me of any activity via camera or microphone. I rushed to Best Buy, seriously considered 3 products, and selected Canary. I was able to set up Canary in about 10 minutes. It is an attractive unit about the size of a desktop PC speaker. I had a little trouble using the headphone jack for activation, but when I switched to Bluetooth, it set up in seconds. It has a very loud alarm you can activate remotely. You can look at the live feed or recordings. This was perfect and I love this product

    Horrible product, and worst customer service. Bought this camera a few months ago, a couple of months after somebody broke into my apartment and the camera didn’t record anything because it had an issues where it sensed my phone was there even though I had it with me overseas! Customer service didn’t answer only to say basically too bad and nothing they can do. Today I am still having issues with it even after multiple updates. Don’t waste your money and buy a reliable camera that actual serves its purpose, even though this are not cheap.

    Without knowing hurricane Irma was coming I bought Canary on the advice of a friend for my condo on Hollywood Beach. It turned out to be more than I expected. Canary is wonderful. As long as I had electricity and internet access, I could see in my condo that everything was safe as I listened to the winds and pounding rain outside. Canary let me see in realtime, live, the lightening as Irma came in. Canary is simple to set up. It is one of the best purchases yet!

    Slow response time

    Delayed response on arrival and departure. Sometimes over 15 minutes. If someone broke into my home I won't know till they are gone. I got home for lunch. Made a sandwich, ate it, used the restroom and left all before the dang thing registered I was home. I was 15 minutes away when it said I was gone. I can stand right next to the unit and it will tell me I am not home. The camera is great as is the wide angle. Night vision is excellent also. Their help support is terrible and unresponsive as well. Buy a Nest system instead.

    I bought this camera a few months ago now. It was decent in the beginning but after time with all the new system and app updates it’s gone nothing but downhill. I have really high speed internet at home and it’s wired directly to my router and the lag and video quality is nothing but upsetting. And u don’t get all the Benefits of the camera unless you get a membership!! Wish Ring came out with a system for inside the house. Hope this was helpful

      We’re sorry to hear that your experience with Canary has not been great. We do regularly release updates that include new features and improvements to our system. We recently released an update that dramatically reduces the latency of video streaming. Prior to this release, you may have experienced a delay of about 5 seconds (sometimes more depending on the environment) between what you saw in the Canary app and the activity that was actually occurring. With our improved Watch Live experience, the latency has decreased, giving you a virtually real-time stream. To experience this, you’ll want to make sure that your app is running the latest version (currently 2.9.0).

      One note about video quality: To achieve real-time streaming, the video quality being streamed while watching live automatically adjusts to the upload strength (of your home internet) and the download strength (of your phone’s connection). At the same time, the video being recorded is actually recorded at full quality even if the quality of what you see while watching live is adjusted down to account for the current conditions of the internet connection. This could explain what you’re experiencing. If you navigate to your timeline and watch the recorded video clips you should notice that they are full quality. If you are still experiencing issues please don’t hesitate to contact us at support@canary.is.

    Good Quality

    I purchased the Canary a day ago and could not be happier with the unit. It was extremely easy to set-up and was up and running in no time. I placed the unit inside my home and am now planning to purchase another one for outside. The set-up; I downloaded the app and followed the simple instructions. My roommate did the same thing and then we tested the unit, moving it around the house to get the best view. Today, I am getting notifications related to the activity in the house - when someone enters and exits. I am also getting notified of the home environment in regards to temp and air quality. Loving it!

    This is essentially a fancy webcam like other reviews have stated. The camera operates on WiFi and it absolutely needs to stay plugged in. It uses a motion sensor to tell itself to start recording, which so far (1 month) seems like it works well. I haven’t experienced over sensitivity like some others have, and notifications aren’t overwhelming, in fact I’ve received zero notifations of motion and nothing was there. My ONLY complaint about the system is that the notifications are delayed maybe a minute or so. So if someone were breaking in, you’d know about it a little bit after the incident.

    Painful set up but great product

    Setting up was a nightmare. Firmware update just hangs for hours. After contacting their support center, I was told to connect the unit via network cable which I don't have. Who has network cable these days? If network cable is essential for smooth set up, one should have been included w the unit. After agonizing 4 hr set up process, it was ready and I'm actually quite happy w the product. I like the hardware as much as its features. I like how you can initiate alarm remotely and contact local police. Zero star for set up, 4 for the hardware and its features.

    This camera is great! I was skeptical about it as first but I have come to love it! I can quickly access the app from my phone and see a live feed of my home as well as having the easy access of being able to turn on a siren if something sketchy were to happen! I receive a notification if the camera senses any sort of moment when I'm home or away from home, and records that instance so I can go back to it. Also, there is no membership charge unless you want to increase the amount of time that you're able to go back in your timeline and see any activity that happened more than 24 hrs ago. IT'S GREAT!

    Easy installation and a sharp picture. However, even with a 100mb/sec internet cable connection camera slow to respond. requires location app to be activated on a smart phone which reduces phone battery life more than 50%. At medium and high sensitivity levels constant updates to phone a significant nuisance. Number of annual video downloads depends on the subscription plan, something not clearly stated in the camera promotional materials. An interesting product but far from top notch security device and system. Not recommended for average users in need of home security surveillance system! More of a toy than anything else.

    I also had problems at first, the unit wouldn't switch between Home and Away modes properly. I went through the steps many times and finally contacted support through chat. Yes, it took awhile to find one but he was very helpful, not making me go through the steps again, and finally checked my account and found that I had "registered" my unit twice, messing with GPS. "A common problem" he said. Follow the instructions, namely, connect to Ethernet for initial setup, and it works great. I would like to know more about the air quality reading as mine seems to spike often. BB price matched AMZ.

    The Canary product works as advertised and allowed me to receive a Home Alert discount on my homeowners insurance. I actually think response time may be better than an alarm tied through a central monitoring agency as they first try to contact you to be sure it is not a false alarm. With the Canary you can notify proper authorities immediately. The motion sensing is very good and you can teach the device to ignore shadows and lights turning on via Tags. The video and sound quality are excellent. Setup was a breeze and I am glad to have the additional piece of mind from the Canary device.

    I bought it about 2 years ago, it was sufficient at the beginning, then the company changed the features so it was worthless without paying for membership. Now, it does not even have the night feature, only home and away, so, unless you are willing to commit to the membership and its fees, it is a waste of money... Stay away...

    Most reviews are outdated. after using canary I really doubt all the positive reviews are legit.canary decided to go after your wallet and charge a monthly fee to use the features, why when you can buy better and cheaper from other companys? The products are junk,I expected better quality video, I dont know how anyone can be identified by the lack of quality video. Design flaw #2, all someone has to do is walk over and unplug it, sound the alarm,unplug and rob you. Design flaw#3, power outage then unit fails to work.

      Canary offers two different video streams with different priorities: Watch Live in the Canary mobile app uses an adaptive video quality technology that prioritizes minimizing the delay from real time. If your network connection isn't as strong, the video bitrate will be reduced in an effort to stay in real time. This can result in grainy video, but our customers have told us that staying in real time is their priority for the Live feed.

      On the other hand, recorded video that appears on your timeline used a fixed high-quality setting, ensuring that key moments ranging from security incidents like a break in to more fun things like your kid's first steps are captured in great detail and clear picture for watching over and over again or sharing with the police.

    I bought my Canary as an addition to my home security system. The reason was so that when I'm away from home and the alarm goes off and the security company calls me, I can tell them positively if someone is in the house or if it was a false alarm (which I've had happen when a broom fell and slapped the floor). With Canary you just tell them to hold on while you open the Canary app and look & listen live to determine if the police need to be called. Without Canary the police would just be called out to drive by and take a look for anything suspicious but wouldn't have access to the home.

    Simple to set up! Easy to use!

    I am VERY satisfied with my Canary. I use it to monitor my apartment and pets when I’m not home. It was easy to set up and the iPhone app has a sleek interface. It has all the features I need (live streaming to my iPhone, alarm, night vision, motion detection) and even some I didn’t know I wanted (temperature, humidity and air quality sensors). The wide-angle lens is perfect to cover my living room, kitchen and front door (gotta love NYC apartment layouts)! I’d recommend this product to anyone looking for an easy-to-use home monitoring system.
