For my very first prime lens for my Canon 7D, this does exactly what I wanted. Its aperture goes all the way open to 2.8, allowing for a very shallow DOF, giving a great effect for photos or videos. Only thing that I actually don't like about it is that it views as a 65mm on a crop body camera. But as I said, for the cost this lens is definitely worth it.

So I've been shooting professional photography for about 10 years. Fantastic lens for shooting video footage. I tested it on a crop frame and a full frame, much better shot on full frame sensor but still looks great on a crop frame. The discussion everyone has is that canon has a Plastic 50mm f/1.8 which is a great lens for cheaper. This 40mm is 40mm and metal so the quality of the lens is much greater increasing cost. But you lose the f/1.8 and move to a f/2.8. If you're looking for low light and a low cost plastic lens buy the Canon 50mm f/1.8If you're looking for a low light and little more solid quality without caring about the loss in F-Stop buy this 40mm f/2.8

Got this as a first prime lens for a Canon Rebel SL1, fits perfect for Canon's smallest DSLR. With the two, it's footprint all but disappears and is very discreet for street photography. Auto Focus is a little slow sometimes and can hunt a bit, but overall a fun lens, and helped me to walk around and compose those shots.

This camera lens is very compact and light compared to the 18-55mm lens that comes with an Canon EOS Rebel camera. Overall it's very easy to carry around, and I highly recommend this for those who want a 'pancake' lens for taking pictures on-the-go.

This 40mm pancake lens on my Canon SL1 makes a great light weight combo for every day use. Good quality and really clear and bright pictures. The auto focus is fast and quiet making a nice smooth video lens. Good price, especially with the Canon rebate.

Bought this lens for its small size and great reviews. I'm not disappointed. Takes sharp photos and has a wide enough angle to get great indoor shots. Great lens for a lot of situations.

This small lens is amazingly sharp and is always in place on my 5DmkIII in place of the body cap when in my various bags or back packs.

I got this to go with the recent cannon camera package I purchased on black Friday. I wanted a small lens for traveling and quick photos on the go and for product photography. This lens is perfect! It is very small and compact, light weight and takes amazing photos!

I feel that the lens was a great price. I also think that this item would be a great added bonus to your camera. If your serious about pics you need to have more lenses to capture the best moments. I have had the lens only a month and can not wait until spring where it can be used more

As a novice / intermediate photographer, I wanted to try out another prime lens other than my 50mm f/1.4, but I didn't know which one to get so of course I began researching and found that a lot of reviewers highly recommended the 40mm pancake lens. So when Best Buy had a sale on them I decided to pull the trigger and get one and I am so glad I did. This is a great little everyday lens. It is quiet, solid construction, response is fast, great quality reproduction. There is nothing bad to say about this lens accept under low light conditions you might not capture the shot you want. I've been finding myself using this lens a lot more than my 50mm. For the price you won't be disappointed.

I had the 50mm 2.8 and dropped it so I had to have a replacement. This is by far a much more versatile lense than the 50mm. It's about the same quality as the 50mm and works great with video, even on my 60d.

Great wide angle lens. No "fisheye" distortion. Works on both full frame and crop sensor cameras. Mechanics on the auto focus work good. I like to manually focus so I don't know how well it lasts overtime. Light weight and compact, sometimes I forget it's on my camera.

I needed a close up-lens when working in low light conditions and needed one to use when my 70-200mm lens was not able to get up close. The f:2.8 allows me to work without a flash.

The was a great purchase for the price. The image quality is excellent and the small profile and macro distance makes this a great lens for newborn and children photography. The autofocus is really fast and quite. Love it!

I bought this lens to help make my DSLR more manageable. I'm a semi pro photographer and don't own a point and shoot aside from my phone and taking my DSLR with my regular lenses can be a bit of a hassle so I bought this lens in order to more a point and shoot feel from my camera while keeping the quality of images my family and I are used to.
