I bought this lens for $150 and I have no regrets. This and the canon 50 1.8 are probably the two best values canon has. If you are new to photography and are looking to buy a camera I say skip the kit lens and buy this or the canon 50 1.8.

With the APS-C sensor this lens becomes more of a 55mm lens or the equivalent of the 50mm lens for full frame cameras. It is a sharp lens and a great value for the price on either form of Canon DSLR.

An excellent lens for general purpose use. Looked at other more expensive fixed focal length lenses and found this to be a great purchase for both quality and value.

This little lens is a gem. Very sharp, all the way to the corners. Low distortion. Great colors. All in a very inexpensive lens. I use this lens on a full frame Canon 5D Mark III and it is just outstanding value.

Seriously, for beginners, this is a great investment. Good to use with the Canon 70d as well (those into videos). Perfect for "true to eye" (not skewed) images.

I had the 50mm 2.8 and dropped it so I had to have a replacement. This is by far a much more versatile lense than the 50mm. It's about the same quality as the 50mm and works great with video, even on my 60d.

I bought this for use with an Xti and a SL1. It works well with both. The smaller form factor works well with the lighter SL1. Image quality is good and overall this lens is a good value at this price point.

This lens is hard to beat for the price. Image quality and auto focus are better than the EF 50mm F1.8 lens for marginally more money. The small size of this "pancake" lens is a real benefit as well. I have not been able to use it very much yet but impression so far is that it was money well spent.

Great value and quality. Lightweight. Love the bokeh. Sometimes autofocusing can drag when too close to subject. Good image quality.

My first prime Lens, very lightweight, solidly built, and affordable. Very quiet motor when focusing. I love the bokeh when shooting portrait pictures. I use this a lot when taking baby pictures. With the affordable price I promise you won't regret it.

    Small & Sharp

This prime lens has it all, it's image quality is excellent, it's well constructed, and it's affordable. Image quality on my 60D is great. At 2.8 it's sharp, and provides awesome bokeh. It's very similar to the 50mm 1.8II, but is a bit more user friendly for those of us with APS-C sensors. I can shoot indoors easier due to its focal equivalent of 64mm compared to the 50mm being more like a 85mm when used on an APS-C camera. No vignetting in the corners either. Build quality is excellent, the metal mount and mechanicals give the feeling of quality beyond its price. The lens is really small, it will probably become a lot of people's body cap when traveling. It's size makes it perfect for candid photography, it's not imposing or distracting to the subject. Finally affordability, at 200 dollars, I would recommend it to anyone with a camera. It's extremely versatile and does not require a large investment, I would say Canon should have a camera kit with this lens, much better than what the kit 18-55 offers.
