    For my very first prime lens for my Canon 7D, this does exactly what I wanted. Its aperture goes all the way open to 2.8, allowing for a very shallow DOF, giving a great effect for photos or videos. Only thing that I actually don't like about it is that it views as a 65mm on a crop body camera. But as I said, for the cost this lens is definitely worth it.

    Love the lens, takes great quality pictures! It does seem very similar to my 50mm f1.8 in almost every aspect. Almost. Nonetheless, I like it.

    This lens is hard to beat for the price. Image quality and auto focus are better than the EF 50mm F1.8 lens for marginally more money. The small size of this "pancake" lens is a real benefit as well. I have not been able to use it very much yet but impression so far is that it was money well spent.

    The field of view is a little more than the budget 50mm lens, which is nice, and with better construction. It does very well indoors, hardly weighs anything at all, and it doesn't knock stuff off the table every time I turn around when I'm neck strappin' it. It's a good additional lens.

    The lens are tiny and the retail price is low. They are hard to use being that they are not zoom lens. I am a beginner so I may not know what i am talking about.

    I bought this lens for $150 and I have no regrets. This and the canon 50 1.8 are probably the two best values canon has. If you are new to photography and are looking to buy a camera I say skip the kit lens and buy this or the canon 50 1.8.
