I bought this lens after seeing it in the store. I asked a worker what it was primarily used for and he told me. I have used it a few times and I really like it. The pictures are clear and the colors are nice.

With the APS-C sensor this lens becomes more of a 55mm lens or the equivalent of the 50mm lens for full frame cameras. It is a sharp lens and a great value for the price on either form of Canon DSLR.

I have a general purpose lens for shooting between medium and long distances - but I wanted to get more shots of people. I really wanted to take more photos of people and pets so I picked up this lens and I couldn't be happier - it delivers all I could want and more. For a reasonable price you get a fun little piece of equipment to add to your Canon camera! Love it.

This lens is pretty darn nice for the money you're paying. Way better than the kit lens that comes with your camera. Lets in a lot of light and takes some really nice pictures.

I use my Canon 70D for interior video often and needed a lens that offered good results in low light situations. This lens works very well and am please with its performance.

I pretty much entered the full frame DSLR world for the inexpensive lenses that Canon offers. I really enjoy the small size and light weight of this lens. I have the 40mm attached to my 6D Mark II, 90 percent of the time and I believe it is an excellent addition to everyone’s camera bag. I cannot wait to go on a trip with just this lens, how refreshing.

Adding the standard lens to my camera improved my ability to capture higher quality photos without the heft of a larger lens. Great for traveling and handy to have when needed.

This lens option came recommended to me and it has really been a nice lens when you don't want to lug around a large lens. If you are traveling and want to have a second or third option that doesn't take up a lot of space in the camera bag this is a great choice. Good quality pictures with a simple snap.

Although the uses are limited with this compact lens, it is a great lens to have in my camera bag. I love the results I get with it. It fits in my camera bag nicely and is great for portrait close ups. There are some issues with it focusing, depth of field is so limited that it takes some trickery to get a good portrait. (As shown in the photo below.)

I am a beginner in the realm of photography and so far this lens has suited my needs. It is compact and emits very little sound when being used for video.

I'm very happy with this lens. It's very response, provides crisp and clear images, and makes an SLR very compact when you can't carry a big bag where you're going or need space. This lens works well on older SLR as well. I'm using mine on an old Canon 10D.

So I've been shooting professional photography for about 10 years. Fantastic lens for shooting video footage. I tested it on a crop frame and a full frame, much better shot on full frame sensor but still looks great on a crop frame. The discussion everyone has is that canon has a Plastic 50mm f/1.8 which is a great lens for cheaper. This 40mm is 40mm and metal so the quality of the lens is much greater increasing cost. But you lose the f/1.8 and move to a f/2.8. If you're looking for low light and a low cost plastic lens buy the Canon 50mm f/1.8If you're looking for a low light and little more solid quality without caring about the loss in F-Stop buy this 40mm f/2.8

I use this in tandem with the 24mm STM lens. On my Rebel T4i, it has better bokeh and just the right amount of zoom to be practice as a walking around lens. f/2.8 at this price range is hard to beat.
