I needed a sharp fixed lens for video and portrait shots. This little lens has delivered. Nice Bokeh, very sharp pictures and on sale to boot. Glad I bought this lens to go with my Canon Rebel T4i (need the T4i or T5i to take full advantage of the STM). Pick up a UV filter to protect it.

Great lens for the price. It does well in low light. The f stop is little slower then 50mm 1.8 which is in same price range but wider angle to capture more and closer to your objects. If I was to have to choose between 40mm 2.8 or 50mm 1.8 I would go with 40mm 2.8 just because I need the extra wide angle for good pictures or video. For the price can not go wrong. The better quality has no limits but your budget has.

Picked this fun little lens up at a great price, and it has to be one of the more fun lenses I've had the pleasure of shooting with in a while. The 40mm focal length really is closer to what your eye sees than a 50mm, on full frame at least. Its surprisingly sharp, sharper than I expected. With this lens on my 6D the camera really does become quite a light walk around option. Its built amazingly well, much better than the nifty fifty. Autofocus is a bit slower than I expected while being very quiet so that is a plus, but the manual focus is nice and smooth and fairly accurate without a lot of play. Overall very happy with this lens, have found it on my camera a lot more than I thought I would.

The price on this was too good to pass up. Its a great lens to use for all types of shots. It doesn't zoom so that takes getting use to but the quality of the pictures is worth it!

I'm a photography novice who purchased a DSLR for the greater image quality it provides in comparison to point and shoot cameras. I purchased this lens to improve the image quality of my pictures and reduce the amount of camera I carry around. I consider goals both achieved. I notice sharper images and less noise. I have had a few moments where I was unable to back up far enough frame a picture the way I wanted to, but that just forces me to be more creative or assess whether or not the moment was worth capturing to begin with. I've red that the 50mm 1.8 isn't as sharp as the 40mm until lower (higher?) apertures and I rarely take pictures in low light situations that would be ruined by a flash, so I've never even bothered to compare this lens to the 50.

The pancake lens is very lightweight, therefore adding almost no weight to the camera. Very versatile, takes great up close or distance photos.
