I've had my canon 3ti for about 2 years now, and it was only after having my son that I really started playing around with it. This lens is PERFRCT for zoomed in pics. It literally does all the work for you - blurring the background and bringing portraits into bright, sharp focus - and this is not even with the manual settings!! As I said, I'm still a novice photographer, but with this lens, my pics are coming out totally professional!

I needed something to improve the quality of portrait shots; this is perfect (and less expensive than I expected).

I love this lens. I prefer to use prime lenses over zoom lenses and I bought this lens to replace the "nifty fifty" that was recommended to me when I bought the camera body. This lens is a much higher quality and takes better images. The auto focus mechanism is also a lot more responsive. The "nifty fifty" used to get stuck at close-range shots or have trouble when I moved my focus from something near to something farther away. Not the 40mm. It's also much quieter. My favorite thing about it is the size. It's small enough that I can leave it on my camera when I'm not shooting without worrying that is going to get damaged in my bag. Between this lens and the 85mm 1.8 USM I am set for taking great shots of my friends and family anywhere I go.

I purchased this lens to use with a Canon EOS Rebel SL1. That camera is quite small already, and this lens makes it even more compact when I'm on the go. What's more, It makes the whole setup look a little more like and point-and-shoot and a little less like a DSLR. This does not usually matter to me, but I have noticed that people - when asked to be in a picture - react differently depending on how they perceive the camera. This combo (SL1 + this lens) does not attract attention; people are not put off by a too-professional-looking camera.

I love paring this on my 5D Mk3 when I am walking around town.

This lens is sharp even wide open. This lens has great Canon color and contrast. It focuses instantly and is spot on all the time. It's tiny. What else is there. And it's basically free!

The pictures come out really clear. My sister is a beginner photographer and was using a different lens. When I purchased this one I couldn't wait to see what all she could do with lens, I was really impressed with the way her pictures looked. It's a really good lens and for the price too.

This is my third lens and I'm loving it. It is very sharp and detailed, great color and low light sensitivity. I originally bought the Canon 50mm f/1.8 and was disappointed in the build quality and cheap construction. The. I bought this one and have no regrets absolutely love it and have been using it as my main lens since I purchased it.
