Customers find value in the EF 50mm f/1.2L USM Standard Lens's exceptional image quality, dreamy bokeh, and impressive low-light performance, frequently praising its ability to achieve a shallow depth of field and produce sharp, clear images. However, some customers note that the autofocus can be slow, and the high price point may be a deterrent for some buyers. The lens's weight is a point of contention, with some finding it substantial while others appreciate its manageable size.

Lens is very well built and surprisingly heavy. Filter size is 72mm, so this is not a small prime lens.
Sharpness is good throughout the range, but at wide open the shallow depth of field means focusing is critical.
This is definitely and upgrade from my previous 50mm lens.

I read about people who criticized the field of focus for this lens, but I have found no problem at all. The pictures that it produces are crystal clear. With that beautiful blurred background. Do Not settle for a "bargain" lens. You'll regret it and in the end buy this one. Get it, you'll love it.

This lens is amazing! It's definitely a lot more expensive than the 1.8, and 1.4 but I've owned both those and if you're using the lens for work, it's worth the upgrade. Wide open at 1.2 and the bokeh is creamy while maintaining sharpness and clarity to your target subject. The color, depth, darks and whites are noticeably more crisp with this compared to the other Canon 50's. Stoked ok this purchase!

There is plenty written all over the Internet about this lens, and it's all true. Amazing image quality, lightning fast and surprisingly quiet autofocus, and at f/1.2 this lens can practically see in the dark. A must have for any serious amateur or pro photographer, this is also my 1st choice lens for daytriping and travel.

This is, by far, the nicest lens I have ever used. The large aperture allows great pictures in just about any light. Works great for shots of my Grandkids, even when they are not sitting very still. I have chased my Grandkids around the yard taking candid shots of them, that ended up looking like professional portraits.
It was a stretch for me to afford a lens like this. But I can see never having to pay for professional shots of my family ever again. You can actually, "accidently" get great shots with this lens.

While this lens is expensive it's worth every penny. This lens takes amazing portraits and will be my primary wedding lens. So far focus is spot on, no issues. Images are clear and shoots great in halls, restaurants and other so-so lighting scenarios.

I have been using the 50mm f1.4 the past year, easy to pick up and a great all around lens. I bought the 50mm f1.2 to shoot at f1.2 and found it to be a bit tricky at first compared to the f1.4 (making sure I aim for the eyes, distance between me, the subject, and background for desired bokeh, etc.)
First thing I noticed was better saturation and bokeh with the f1.2. Maybe it's my eyes but it does seem sharper than the f1.4. Beautiful lens, a little better results than the f1.4 but I hope to experiment more with it. I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner, the f1.4 would be fine. Definitely for the more advanced.

i have a canon t3i, and i needed a lens that would take my photos to the next level. the kit lens is cr*p, and i used to have canon's low end 50mm f1.8II -- but that lens was pretty terrible too :( i know this lens is a BIG price jump, but i honestly have not looked back. not only are my photos crisp, the colors are vibrant and on point. my blog is really coming together, and i think it's the best investment i've made for my business. if you have a cropped body camera (like the t3i) i recommend this lens over the high end 85mm, because the 50mm photographs a wider angle.

I love this lens. Upgraded from the already stunning 50mm 1.4 after using it for years. This is a nice step up and is fun to shoot on. Good weight to it, focuses quickly, photos and video look great.

I originally bought this lens to take still photography for work but I'm loving it for taking photographs of family too! The lens is great for those dreamy blurred out backgrounds and pulls in much more light than my former lens.

A wonderful lens. Had the 50 1.4 but always wanted the 1.2. I don't miss the 1.4. It was a great lens for the price, but the focus was hit or miss. This one is usually sharp at 1.2.

This lens is another example of Canon "L" glass excellence. Super bright and sharp. By far the best 50mm lens I've ever used. The pix are phenomenal. I questioned the wisdom of paying the price for a standard f1.2 lens until I reviewed the pix. This lens delivered some of the best pix of my European trip. I was able to get pix at much lower ISO & the bokeh is soooo lovely! I've never used 50mm much in the past but will be using this one a lot in the future. AF is almost instantaneous and super accurate even low light. Highly recommended!
