Customers are saying

Customers find value in the EF 50mm f/1.2L USM Standard Lens's exceptional image quality, dreamy bokeh, and impressive low-light performance, frequently praising its ability to achieve a shallow depth of field and produce sharp, clear images. However, some customers note that the autofocus can be slow, and the high price point may be a deterrent for some buyers. The lens's weight is a point of contention, with some finding it substantial while others appreciate its manageable size.

I bought this lens as a birthday gift for my daughter who is a photographer and landed her first job in NYC in the field. She said this lens is amazing and supersedes all expectations. Photos are more distinct, detailed and have more depth. So, I guess I am saving up for the next Canon lens.

This is a very well made lens and is a good walk around lens because it's not to heavy

I bought this lense right before heading to a client’s to snap some product shots. I wasn’t sure how good it would be, but after using it, I was blown away. It captures amazing detail while also being far enough to give some beautiful context. I would highly recommend this lense for anyone product shots, or otherwise detailed shots

It’s perfect! It was a gift for my sister, but she says it’s exactly what she wanted to start her photography hobby of taking photos. Honestly, I don’t know much about lenses so I don’t know if the quality is good or not, but it was definitely gift worthy.

This lens is absolutely perfect for portraits. I have the 50mm 1.8 and this lens is so different. I feel like the colors and the bokeh is so beautiful. If you have the chance try the lens out at the store and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed with the performance.

This lens looks small, but it's really heavy. Also, pretty expensive. Shoots well and designed very well. Just know that you'll be carrying on extra weight.

After doing a lot of research for which lense to purchase for portrait photography I chose this one. I am very pleased with the results. The lower f stop makes a huge difference. The lense is not heavy as my other ones so it's fun to carry around.

I used to rely on my 85mm for every single portrait I took but when I got this lens it was a game changer. I literally run my photography business with it. I use it 80% of the time. It is a beast. I love it and definitely recommend it.

They call this lens the Nifty Fifty and it is definitely one of my go-to lens. I think the price difference between this one and the f2.8 is worth it just to get the lens to open that much wider and get enough light in for those really low light shots!

This lens shoots beautifully. It is a top of the line product. Originally I received a faulty lens but when brought to the attention of an associate at Best Buy he corrected the situation immediately by swapping me for a good lens.

At its best when stopped down

I love this lens however there are some things that bug me about it a little. The worst thing about it is the chromatic aboration. It can be quite noticeable. Though stopping the lens down does diminish this. It is also a little soft when wide open. For me, this is something that I actually kind of like depending on what I am shooting. And it does sharpen up quite a bit when stopped down. The minimum focus distance could also be better. That is to say that you can only get so close to your subject. And lastly it is just unreasonably expensive. But the bokeh is just so amazing on this lens and the image quality and character that it produces that I just really enjoy this lens.
