Customers praise the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for its exceptional image quality and beautiful bokeh, with many also highlighting its impressively fast focusing capabilities. However, some users find the lens to be heavy and expensive. The size of the lens is also a point of concern for a few customers.

The Best Telephoto Zoom Lens within 200mm

This is my favorite zoom lens within the range of 200mm. What I like about with this lens is its low light capability performance and of course aside from the bokeh it produces. Although I find it a little bit tricky to nail the focus wide open. The IS is very good and weather sealing is great. I prefer this internal zoom lens than the external zooming lens. The only downside is the weight. I'm using also the Canon EF 70-200mm f4 USM so I know the differnce in weight.

I really love this lens! Takes really sharp images and it's sharp all around. I have a Tamron lens and it's not that well. If you're going to invest in a lens spend some money and buy yourself a canon L series lens. It might be expensive but at the end it's worth the money. You'll just end up buying it anyways. Don't waste your time on 3rd party lenses. Hand down the best lens to use when it comes to telephoto lenses.

I was torn between this lens and a tilt shift lens and I am glad I picked this one. Quick focus and tack sharp images so far. The IS is wonderful especially since I am not the most steady of hand. I seem to be able to get between 3 and 4 stops from the IS. The lens is a bit heavy and connected to my 5DIV, after a while, it does make my neck sore from the weight, but I am very happy with the results I get from this L lens.

This is an excellent lens, and Best Buy was the best place to buy it because of their low price guarantee, and their physical presence. Sales person was so friendly. Manager was a little gruff when I went back for an adjustment for manufacturer rebate, but I guess he was having a bad day. Couple of the sales people who I approached about the adjustment were also a little unsure of their policy. But they ended up honoring it, and for something of this price, it makes a difference. Could have done without the humiliation, though.

This is an outstanding lens, it is razor sharp, exceptionally fast focusing lens. I cannot say enough good about it. It is a bit heavy, but then again, you know you have the best quality glass Canon has available. Buy it, you will not regret it!

I love the image quality. To my eyes Canon's L-Lens have the best colors and make images that really capture the moments. The lens stabilization makes for clear shots when hand-holding the lens. The focus speed os so fast. If you miss the shot it is not the lens' fault! It is a big heavy expensive lens - but totally worth it.

This is my go to lens when I'm taking action shots of my daughter. For her ballet lessons, I can take pictures and not have to worry about the lighting in the room. Dial the aperture to 2.8 and increase the ISO and I get a great picture ( even on a crop). I can't wait to put this lens on a full frame body.

Stunning Shots Make this Lens Worth the Money

I postponed purchasing this lens b/c it is heavier than the lens I use on a regular basis, and I wasn't sure I would use it enough to make it worth the price. But it has turned out to be well worth the price. While this isn't a lens I use on a daily basis, it has been invaluable for several events already. It allowed me to get amazingly crisp and beautiful shots of a wedding I shot last weekend. It allowed me to be far enough back to not disturb the wedding party or their guests, while still getting very intimate shots. The lens is heavier than a cheaper 70-200mm lens I purchased a few years ago, but the quality of the lens is worth dealing with the weight. I did purchase a longer strap which allows me to wear my camera across my body rather than around my neck, and that makes the weight easier to deal with on longer shoots. While I know this review mentions the weight a lot, but that was a factor in my waiting so long to purchase it. But now that I have, I really wished I'd just gone on and purchased it earlier. It takes beautiful pictures that far surpass anything I could get on my cheaper and lighter 70-200mm.

Anyone who buys this lens knows that they're getting themselves into, so a review is a little bit silly. It's a great lens. It's expensive, but you get what you pay for. I have no complaints with this lens. Maybe the lens hood is a little too long? That's all I can come up with. I used to have the Nikon VRII version of this lens. The IS on the Canon is much quieter. The Canon does not rattle when you shake it either. Image quality is about the same. For me, the Canon is a keeper.

I generally like to play with prime lenses but what an awesome zoom. Great for sports portraits and nature. very fast 2.8. So can use in limited lighting. The is and auto focus are great amenities. Note, the lens is heavy but it comes with tripod mount to relieve stress on body. Great build quality.

I'm an amateur photographer who decided to sell two less expensive lenses and buy this lens. The quality of the images went from acceptable to stunning. I've received compliments every time I share photos with others now. The main limitation, while expected for a telephoto zoom lens, is it is challenging to use in tight quarters. Taking family photos over Christmas was difficult when my son moved too close to where I was standing. Love the lens!

I'm a pro photog. This and 3 others were on my lens wish list for a long time. I kind of wish I would have gotten the other ones first, as I have had little use for this one so far.... But as far as quality, I love it. Definitely go for the IS version. And the confidence of actually picking it up at Best Buy store, with the lowest price guarantee, and trustworthiness is fantastic! Do your research on prices, and BB will do a great job.

I just love the lens. POINT BLANK. Purchased it a couple of years ago, but had to get rid of it to fund a new camera body and computer all because I did not purchase the Geek Squad protection plans to cover my damaged 7D and laptop. This is my second time purchasing this lens, and look forward to having it longer than before. It's sharp, fast, does very well in low light.
