Great lens. Takes sharp crisp images. Silent and very fast AF. But if you take lots of indoor shots or where light is limited and a flash is not an option, then I recommend the f2.8 version.

I bought this to photograph running events. I'm really glad I did. It puts me close to the action while standing off in the distance. The image are crisp and clean. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a a telephoto zoom lens.

This lens deserves the 5 star rating the reviews give it. I loved it the minute I took it out of the box. It is only off my camera when I am using my 24-105mm. It is lightweight, compact, well made and well worth the money. I have a 1.4x teleconverter on order and can't wait to try the two of them together. Depending on your needs but if you can only have one L type lens this is one I would take some time in looking at and consider. I do not think you will be disappointed.

So I have tried a fair variety 70-200 lenses so far, such as the Tamron 70-200 f2.8 VC DI USD, Canon 70-200 f4 USM, Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS USM. Now I tried this one and so far image quality is great, razor sharp images, very quick auto focus(unless your indoors, in the dark), light weight, feels very nice in the hands and very smooth zoom ring. The bokeh is pretty decent too, doesn't melt the backround too much, but its still pretty good. All of it seems very much worth the price, but the only thing that makes me give it a 4 out of 5, is the IS motor noise, very annoying...It grinds a lot and its pretty loud, you also have to turn off the IS to get rid of the noise. On that note, this lens is not ideal for video if your using on camera microphones, it should be ok if your using something wireless near your subject. You would think this could be an easy fix for canon, but despite that the lens is good overall, did some test shots indoors with some cheap lighting equipment on my cat, turned out really good.
Bottom line, if you can ignore the noise and are not doing a whole lot of photography that requires a lot less noise(like a quiet wedding reception in a church), then this is a good lens.
For me though, I'll dish out the extra hundreds of dollars for the Canon F2.8, despite the weight, or the Tamron version.

I use this lens with my 5dmark3 and Rebel T6S. It produces really crisp sharp images on both cameras. I use it mainly for photographing outdoor portraits and wildlife. It is a lot lighter than the f2.8 IS version and also hundreds cheaper.

This is a far easier to use lens than my Canon f/4.0-5.6 IS 100mm-400mm zoom, which I sold a long time ago. Very light weight, easy to carry and Canon L lens quality. With new Type III 1.4X tele converter, can still autofocus at 300 mm. Tripod mount lens collar still available.

No color fringing, on distortion. It even autofocuses with my 2x teleconverter. Clear, sharp images. The f4 L is great for most things making it unnecessary to pay the extra money for the f2.8. Just crank up the iso.

First L lens and picture quality is good. However, for the price I was expecting better, so consider it to be too pricey considering what it costs. The lens seems to be built well and comes with a case. I like the ability to adjust the stabilization mode.

I bought this lens because I wanted a quality lens other than the kit lenses. This was definitely worth the money. Provides excellent pictures and isn't crazy heavy/large like the 2.8.

Great lens. I prefer this lens over the f/2.8 because of the lighter weight. Crisp images, typical Canon quality.

With very little experience with shooting photos, I didn’t know what to expect with this zoom lens. It is definitely a lot of money to spend blindly. I have no history to allow a comparison with other lenses but, I will say I was pleased with the results of my 1st experience using this Cannon Telephoto Zoom Lens.

I bought this lens after having the 70 to 200 2.8, sold that and picked up this one which has proven to be just as sharp or sharper wide open. The IS works great allows you to hand hold low shutter speeds.

I really like the lens on new 6D. It is easy to use. Getting greats shots
of my agility dogs at practice. Taking some cute photos of them at home too.
