My first L lens. Works great with auto focus, or with manual focusing. There is quite a bit to know, which I haven't discovered yet- but off the bat- awesome lens:

if u cant afford the 2.8 then i recommend this lens it does the same work and really great job in portraits and zoom i love this lens nothing bad with it except for the f4 but if you're shooting outdoors in the day time then you have no problem with it.

This lens is fantastic for shorter distance and mid distance. Great option being less expensive than the 70-200 f2.8. I’d buy this again if had chance again

I was in need of a lens I could use for my kids sporting events where I couldn't be up close. This lens works great. Crisp and clear shots 99% of the time. Does not do well in low light however.

If you are a beginner this is not for you. Besides being very heavy it takes a long time to capture a shot. Not good for beginners.

It is a great lens. At this price it does not have the image stabilizer function but you can compensate using other camera functions.

    Great for walk-around and/or first L series

If you have never owned an L series lens before, this is the one to start with. You'll be amazed at how much your photos instantly improve. Since it is much lighter than its IS version, this lens makes for a better walk-around. I use it on a 6D so low light is no problem (learn how to set and use K value). Next to my 50mm, this is by far my favorite lens. I am too old to lug around a 3 pound lens. I have 2 and next to never use them unless I know I will be sitting or using a tripod. This lens does not come with tripod mount ring as the IS versions do. They are optional. Due to the length of the lens, when I use a tripod, I use a ring. If you buy one, get Canon and not an off brand, $145 may sound like a lot, but they are made to last and won't accidently pop open.

The lens is good. However, it does best outside and not as good inside. The zooming function is good, but not great.

Got this lens years ago paired with my old rebel. I really like it and shop for a canon L lens and see the price, this will be near the top of the list. I wanted a constant apature, fast focus, not plastic telephoto lens with with internal focus and the 70-200 is what i got. I would love to have one of the 2.8 is versions but thats like tripple the price. It is alot heavier than the plastic kit lenses but worth it. In fact I put a wide angle kit lens on and i hate it because every time i use a polorizer on it i have to always adjust it for every shot and wait for it to focus. The 70-200 is on my now 70d that i love 95% of the time.

    GREAT LENSE

This is a great lense. The Tamrons I tried did'nt even come close. The Canon 70-300 F3.5-5.6 IS USM, the Canon 100mm macro, and the Canon 28-135mm that came with my new Canon 40D, do come close, but do not have the awesome focus or clearness, as this lense,I can feel the awesome quality, and for the price it can't be beat. I find I do not absolutely need image stabilization, for with the lense I have or the others I purchased with it,I find I can turn it off and still get the same exact image,I will probably have to use a tri pod if I were in a really dark situation, but I have never encountered a situation where I need one because of blurryness do to camera shake. Thanks Best Buy for carrying such awesome Canon lenses,I now want to save money for other Canon L series lenses Best Buy offers. Thanks for the great no hassle exchange and or return policy.THE BEST!

For the price, this lens is a steal. Amazing quality throughout the 70-200mm focal length. Having F/4.0 all the way is great too. Yes, it does not have IS. But if you can keep your shutter speed up or use a monopod/tripod it won't matter. Just beware, you won't look at any other lenses besides L's after getting this one. (Yes, it is a L gateway drug.)

I've heard this lens referred to as a "chick" lens in the industry as it is substantially lighter than it's sister f/2.8 L series lens. I've not had the chance to use it in a very low light setting where the 2.8 lens or the f/4 lens with image stabilization might come in handy, but this a great lens and I've not been disappointed with it's performance so far. I'm not really sure that the IS feature is worth twice the money. And I love the fact that it's not nearly as heavy as its 2.8 sister. Would highly recommend.
