    Great Lens for Price

I bought this Lens for my Canon T3i and so far I just love it, I have captured some great images ( when I do my job right) and love the fact that it shoots very good wide angle out to the full 200mm. I have the 18-55mm that came with the Camera and a 70-300mm that I bought later. I should have bought the Camera body only then put this lens on it. The F3.5 makes it a bit faster so for the price it is well worth it when you see the price jump to get an F2.8 or better.

    Great vacation lens!

Purchased this lens just before going on a WDW vacation, to attach to my Canon T3i w/ BG-E8 battery grip. It came in handy during all the character meals-- especially when shooting larger groups, the 18mm zoom came in handy! The PhotoPass photographers found it easy enough to use, as evident by the perfectly cropped pics they shot of my family of four. Haven't noticed any motor noise when using in movie mode, but then again my previous Rebel XSi couldn't shoot video. Was able to shoot a nice movie mode video on the Dumbo ride w/o any issues. Fireworks shots came in clear, as I was able to shoot at 18mm on a monopod. I was able to get some pretty nice closeup details of flowers and butterflies during the Flower & Garden Festival in EPCOT. It's not a true macro lens, but not bad. My only complaint? The lens tends to creep all the way to 200mm when pointing downward--unless the lens is locked down. (I had the lens hood and 72mm filter on, but still, it'd be nice if it didn't creep.) Overall, it made taking 2000+ photos and 20+ videos a breeze for a week's stay in Orlando! (Knowing my next lens is the Canon L-series 70-200mm f/4, I would've given this Canon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 all 5s, but I reserve that rating for the new lens.)

Best all around lens for the money

It is perfect for the family who needs to capture close Aswell as far shots. Pretty quick to focus. I have it on my canon eos 60d and used it on the rebel t2i. It was a huge upgrade for both. Picture quality is great and i used it in disney for 3k photo's with no need for a lens change.

    Very heavy, but no alternative.

I have this lens for several years and this is my primary lens on my Canon Rebel SL1. Another lens I use is the EF-S 24mm "Pancake". Both lenses are awesome. The "Pancake" works on small Rebel SL1 as they belong to each other. The EF-S 18-200 look huge an bulky on SL1. It is heavy and even has a mechanical lock switch to lock the lens. Otherwise it will extend itself under its own weight if you tilt the camera down. Makes me laugh. For years I am trying to find an alternative. Lighter and with similar performance. No luck. Simply because this EF-S 18-200 lens does the job right. I would recommend this lens if you don't mind the weight, but need a good quality and not carry a whole lens collection with you. It works well on special trips and events. It look very fragile. If you do get this lens, make sure you also get the "EF-S 24mm "pancake" lens to make you camera compact when needed! Another recommendation - do not get rid on your EF-S 18-55mm kit lens!

    Wide range of zoom

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Pros: Range of zoom makes it versatile. Can shoot from 1.5 feet to across a parking lot. Great travel/walking around camera. Comes with locking mechanism to keep it from extending involuntarily. Cons: Lose some quality of photos for so much zoom. Picky, not always quick to focus. Heavy (makes camera point down when around next instead of straight out.) Won’t do close-up macro (closest = 1.5 feet/.45m). Lens cap does not come with hole for string to keep it attached to camera when not using. Measures a little over 3.5” when at its smallest, 6” when fully extended. Used with Rebel t3i. Previously owned: Canon Powershot SD1000 Digital Elph (2007), Nikon Coolpix s8000 (2011), Canon Sx50 (2012). Currently own: Canon t3i (DSLR), Sony Hx20v

Very versatile lens but compromised image quality

I purchased this lens along with a Canon T2i, and they performed well together. I went for this particular lens for the versatility, I only wanted to take a single lens on my recent vacation, and this covered all my requirements in terms of focal length extremely well. If you are very fussy about your pictures though, this may not be the lens for you. To achieve that large zoom range, the optics have suffered. The biggest issue is chromatic aberration at both extremities of the zoom range. Next is softness in the corners. However, if you keep it stopped down, and use RAW file formats and process the pictures afterwards to remove the CA, you get acceptable results. Overall its a winner due to its versatility, I would buy it again.

This lense allows me to carry one lense daily rather than two. I still use my 300mm when needed but for most day to say and profession needs, this lense is perfect. Be sure to carry an extra battery if you are using AF a lot with this lense. It is a little heavy on battery useage due to its versatility.

    Great Lens!!

Some of the reviews out there beat this lens up....Saying it not as sharp as they would like it to be. Remeber this is not an "L" lens! It does take great shots at all focal lengths and is a one lens fits all occasions. It is a great walkaround/vacation lens. Its IQ is very good and I am very satisfied for the price. You will not regret this purchase!

This is a great lens for indoor close ups and outdoor scenes. The range of zoom on this lens makes it the only lens you will need to carry. I take alot of airshow pictures and I can get up close to the aircraft on the ground as well as zoom in to the aircraft in the sky. Don't buy a lens included in a camera package, buy the body only and buy this lens.

    Longest waited super-zoom EF-S lens

This lens replaces the 18-55mm IS lens I have on my Rebel XSi, I have been waiting for this lens for quite a long time, carrying 2 lens and change them just too much hassle for me. Besides the 11x zoom, I also like its 2 UD Glass usually found in Canon's "L" lens. I would not mind to pay extra $200 if Canon would add USM and dust and moisture resistant to this lens to make it near "L" lens level. Finally the lens hood is expensive if you can find it at all.

    Great single lens

If you only want to carry single lens, this is the one. Only complaint is, if I'm wearing my camera by its strap, the lens always opens up....zooms in and the lens gets longer making it more unwieldy. Other than that, quite happy with it.

This is the perfect lens for everything you want to take a picture of. Don't be fooled by so called NYC photo stores that say that they have the lowest prices. Best Buy was exactly the same price and I got rewards which made it a lower price.
