Love taking pictures with this lens. Makes for a smaller DSLR when you want simple photos that look great and don't need zoomz

Really good lens and it won’t hurt your wallet. Use mine mostly for astrophotography or landscape photography. Uploaded pictures I took the same day I bought the lens.

PROS: - Extremely lightweight, making prolonged shoots, walking around while on vacation, or in my case, hiking with it an absolute dream to carry - Extremely short and nimble lens. It sticks out just past the pop-up flash on my camera. You can literally carry this lens in your pocket - Great image quality, tac sharp even at f/2.8 - Very reasonable quality to price ratio - Metal mount ring CONS: - Barrel is plastic, but this shouldn't be a deal breaker CONSTRUCTION: Remember, you have to go into this purchase knowing you’re not getting an L series lens, especially at this price point. It is a cheaper lens in regards to both part quality and price aspects but I feel as though Canon has not skimped on the important parts of the lens such as the glass. The glass is very good and the mount is metal, not plastic. The barrel, however, is plastic but it doesn't effect your images so this is really a non-issue IMAGE QUALITY: This lens is surprisingly tac sharp at f/2.8 with respect to DOF. It does not at all get muddy at its lowest aperture like some wide open lenses can get (see wristwatch and leaf pictures). The versatility of this lens if just plain ridiculous. As I said above, It is capable of getting very close-up shots (not macro) but can also capture great landscapes (see sunrise picture). While you can certainly take portraits with this lens, the background blur may be a little underwhelming for some people, as it’s a 24mm lens, not a 50mm. So if you want more blur in portraits, perhaps this lens isn’t for you OVERALL: Personally, I love this lens. I think it’s extremely versatile in that it very nicely captures a large range of pictures from landscapes to close-ups. I think the pictures I have included speak very fairly to this claim. I bought this lens for a number of reasons. Namely, I wanted a lightweight lens that was capable of capturing images while I hike, such as landscapes. My EF-S 18-135mm zoom lens was just too heavy and bulky to comfortably hike with. The Canon 24mm pancake turned out to be the perfect solution to that problem. Taking into account the image quality for the price point, you end up getting quite a bargain. Canon can easily sell this for more than they are in my opinion. I am very pleased with this lens. It’s lightweight, small, produces great images, and is very affordable. Every amateur/enthusiast photographer should have it in their kit!

Only reason this didn't get a 5 stars is because of its incompatibility with fCanon full frame cameras.

This review is more for the delivery/shipping aspect as there is no other way to report. For a $200 item to be shipped in its box and then some mailer without any filler is horrible customer service. Luckily my item inside was not damaged but when games are packaged better than camera equipment something isnt right

It’s a very good lens for the price especially! 4.5 stars ^^ I have a Canon 70d and it is a great addition to give me a wider picture for my crop sensor that does not look fisheye. A 22mm 2.8 would be primo, but I think in this price range only available for mirrorless? It does reasonably well in low light street lighting. To get the sharpest video or photos stop it down a little 3.5 or so for on the fly run and gun. Auto focus works well, although if fast moving which I did a drive by buildings down town L.A. Frwy at night was a little tricky, once you get the auto locked in for your distance, switch to manual so it does not hunt in and out of focus. It is super nice to have such a small and light all around lens for everyday pictures and videos. The quality so far after about 2 months ago seems very good and I have no regrets as a keeper lens. It’s on my camera right now as I write this! I have other lenses also, Canon 28-70 2.8 L, 85mm 1.2 L and a rare Canon 50mm 1.0 L, and a few others but this 24mm 2.8 is now my easy go to lens if picture quality is not under scrutiny of a micro scope? You can see some of the videos I have done on NoppeN band You Tube. This 24mm 2.8 lens was mostly used on our latest soon to be uploaded Game To Win..

The Canon EF-S 24mm/f2.8 lens is great for low light photography, especially where flashes are not allowed. It's somewhat wide angle is good for portrait and street photography. It's a Canon lens so the quality is great. All my Canon lenses have performed perfectly for many years. This lens performs well both indoor and outdoor, at a reasonable price too.

This is the perfect lens if you take long hikes or do a lot of backpacking. It is super compact and very light. The lens is very sharp, good color, no distortion. You can use a polarizer or graduated ND with no problem. It is the perfect focal length for scenic photos 24mm on full frame and 36mm on your apsc sensor. I'm using a Canon 60D and I keep it on the camera for 75-80% of my scenic photos while hiking. It works great with people in the scene as well because there is little perspective distortion at the 36mm apsc format. Best of all is the price!!! If you need a wider angle go with the 10-18mm for hiking; also super light.

I bought this as a wide angle lens to use for travel... taking mostly landscape photos. While the images are sharp, I find that colors often turn out a bit strange... either too cool or too warm. It also feels like I can't get enough contrast from the lens. My 50mm 1.4 has much better color and contrast, but I guess that's not a surprise. Any issues I've had with color and contrast have been easily remedied in Lightroom. All that said, this is a great lens that is lots of fun. The 24mm is a great focal length on a crop sensor for walking around - super versatile. Wide open, I definitely choose this lens over my Canon 24-70 2.8 L. If I don't need the zoom (which I usually don't), it's just way easier to carry around this tiny thing vs. the monster 24.70 2.8.
