Great size for travel but lacking contrast

I bought this as a wide angle lens to use for travel... taking mostly landscape photos. While the images are sharp, I find that colors often turn out a bit strange... either too cool or too warm. It also feels like I can't get enough contrast from the lens. My 50mm 1.4 has much better color and contrast, but I guess that's not a surprise. Any issues I've had with color and contrast have been easily remedied in Lightroom.
All that said, this is a great lens that is lots of fun. The 24mm is a great focal length on a crop sensor for walking around - super versatile. Wide open, I definitely choose this lens over my Canon 24-70 2.8 L. If I don't need the zoom (which I usually don't), it's just way easier to carry around this tiny thing vs. the monster 24.70 2.8.

This lens ends up being my go to lens for walking around. It is lightweight and has a snappy focus. The pancake nature of it makes it super small on the camera, barely adding any weight or thickness. This makes it great for walking around and shooting all day. The aperture is decent and gives a good depth of field. I have been shooting it a little higher to get greater focal distances. Plus, it is super cheap. you are not going to get a much better prime lens for this price anywhere

While I wish the f stop on this was closer to the 1.8 that the EF 50mm lens is for full frame users, 2.8 here is sharp and focus is quick. It being a pancake and so easy to carry has made it my primary lens. In a crop sensor camera a 24mm focal length is more like 45mm. Which is an ideal length as it is close to what your eyes see. If you have a canon rebel this lense is a must.

Let me begin by saying that the Canon T5 I bought this for is my first foray into DSLR photography. I read many reviews on prime lenses and the majority of reviewers recommended this as their go-to lens for everyday photography. It's light, short, and produces clear shots. This lens is on my camera 90% of the time. Definitely a must have in your arsenal.

This is the choice for a prime wide angle lens for Canon's EF mount camera bodies. So compact, so light, so affordable.

I have a Canon 70D that has the APS-C sensor. I bought a "Nifty Fifty" 50mm 1.8F Canon lens and LOVED it. I shoot pics of my family almost exclusively and with kids its hard to get quick shots let alone crisp focus because they are always moving. I liked the more natural view of the fixed lens but needed a closer focal range than the 50 on an APS-C.
Its quick and accurate and switches to Video perfectly because its also an STM. The lens has quality construction. The glass is quite small and gives the impression of cheap but I can't complain about focus, field of view or sharpness. It does what I need without spending $1500 for the L-Series lens.

Since purchasing this lens, I've basically ditched my 18-55mm kit lens in favor of the 24mm pancake. It's just wide enough for everyday practical use on my Canon T3i without having to spend extra on one of the higher-end wide angle lenses, and the f/2.8 aperture has come in very handy versus the limited aperture of the kit lens. The quality of images is excellent, and the bokeh, while not quite as dreamy as the 50mm 1.8, is still very nice. Focusing has been quick and accurate, and is much quieter than on my other lenses, which is also nice.
It might be a little lacking for pros or very experienced amateur photographers, but if you're still a relatively casual photographer like myself, this is a huge step up from the kit lens, and combined with the 50mm 1.8 and a decent zoom lens, it's a great option to get a nice range of focal lengths covered. It's built really well, and seems like it should last for plenty long enough for to get good use of it and lots more practice before feeling the desire to upgrade.

I bought this lens about a month ago and I rarely take it off my camera! Great in low light situations, fairly quiet autofocus, compact, decent wide angle. Just make sure that if you're buying the efs lens you know whether or not your camera has a crop sensor.

This lens opened up the door for my photography/videography! Prior to this purchase, I was using my kit lens only! My pictures are sharper and my is camera lighter and more compact! It has a natural vignette in the right overhead lighting that's pretty cool. It has solved a lot of quality issues compared to the kit lens. Primarily in sharpness and overall lighting control!

This pancake len is super light weight, it makes your cam feeling like a campact cam. 24mm can take good photo at a mid range photo vs 50mm to take close up. I woukd buy it again for my other body of cam.

I love using prime lenses when taking portraits and landscapes. Canon's 24mm lens has become one of my favorite primes. I used the lens to photograph a retirement party to test it out. I was more than pleased with the overall performance. The image quality is outstanding. And it's a pancake lens which means it doesn't add the heavy weight to your camera. If you're looking to purchase a prime lens besides the nifty fifty, this is the lens to give serious consideration. The price is definitely a plus.

I've only been using my camera which is a Canon t6 with 50 mmm youngnuo lens for about 8 months. I would love to become a professional photographer now that I've been doing a little bit more sessions for friends and family for free. I decided to upgrade to a 24 mm because I've always noticed that I can't get everyone in the shot. so I decided to buy this 24 mm which is an awesome game changer. Now I don't have to stand 15ft away from my clients to get the shot. Very sharp images and gets the job done. it will not let you down go for it

So far it’s been great I’ve already used in several families sheets and I’ve been really happy with the photos very sharp and very light weight so it’s easy to carry around and it gets nice wide angle shots but not too distorted

Bottom line, if you want a lens that can perform for street photography while also being an ideal focal length for portrait style work. This is a safe bet. Originally, I bought the 50mm 1.8 (amazing) but with the crop factor in my SL3 I was at more of an 80mm, which is fine but I wanted something closer to the 35mm focal length. The 24mm will get you to 38mm and is pretty good in lowlight. Not as good as your 1.8 aperture, but it is still satisfying overall.
